Madame Anastasia would be a really good name for a gym leader imo. But she's really Iga Lisowski.

Bombirdier - Storks are considered one of the national animals of Poland, where Iga comes from. In addition to that, there's the whole legend of storks delivering babies. Something Iga helped facilitate for Kingston.

Flapple - I had to pick the skinniest, weakest looking dragon type pokemon I could find to represent Misiek. I think I did.

Gothitelle - She's giving the kind of cunt I bet Madame Anastasia gives as a tarot reader and I bet her daughter Jessica loves it. More importantly though, it can predict the future by reading the stars.

Hoopa - Iga's warlock subclass is Genie, so I had to give her the djinn pokemon. It's said to have the power to bend dimensions, kinda like how Iga's chest is a tardis-thing. PLUS, it has a true form and a bound form, which reminds me of Iga hiding the fact she has magic and how powerful it is.

Mimikyu - A pokemon hiding its true form to avoid the persecution of others... Yeah.

Kangaskhan - The parent pokemon, perfect for the most mom ever. Its highest priority is to protect its children, just like Iga.

Unsleeping City Season 3 as Sci-Fi

You know I wasn’t really too excited when they first announced that they’re going back to Unsleeping City. I mean I knew it would still be good; it’s Dimension 20, it’s always good. And I understand why they did it with the pandemic being completely draining and just generally harder to plan for, so this made sense to ease the transition into Roll20. But it’s an anthology show and going back to anything other than Fantasy High felt weird. Not to mention at the time it felt like the story of the Unsleeping City was done and I wanted a significantly fresh setting and Unsleeping City 2 wasn’t that. 

But Unsleeping City 3 CAN be. 

So it’s no secret that after the end of Season 2 everyone is clamoring to hear more about the toddlers and how they grow up. And I’m excited for that too but what I think everyone is missing in this discussion is just how big a time gap this would be. Chapter 2 already takes place in the near future of 2022 to avoid quarantine and give some extra space for the characters to process the events of season 1. The epilogue is another 3 years in the future making it 2025. Guys if we want next return to the Unsleeping City to revolve around the next generation then the stories going to be at least 2042 at like the earliest that i can see it. (they could do a rug rats mode but I can’t really see the cast putting children in the combats that D&D requires and are established as cannon in the Unsleeping City verse) 

Unsleeping City has always been about the New York we know vs. what it could be and what’s lying underneath. And especially with season 2 being largely about keeping a connection to history, season 3 could echo that even further with a near future cyberpunk NYC with floating cars, internet implants, and new corporates monopolies that won’t risk the entire cast being sued! 

Imagine JJ breaking off part of the society from an older Esther to form an ARtificer’s guild that combines magic and new emerging technologies. Esther is furious but even more so that her own daughter, Alejandra, is interested in joining! Cat is trying to find anything she can do to rebel against her loving monk parents by becoming a warlock and fully embracing the magic once again questioning the Monastery’s place in this new New York City. Meanwhile, Langston Brown always knew they were adopted but about their Draconic heritage until the death of their beloved father. At the funeral Langston awakens and realizes just how much of the Unsleeping City was happening all around them without them every realizing it, eventually prompting an ageing Pete to step in and play a similar mentor role to Langston that Kingston played to him. 

Even the Lisowski siblings can get in on the action by being established in their fields at this time. I know Brennan said that Nick was a Hexblade Warlock but come on, his power comes from his dead grandmothers aiding him in physical battle. That guy is definitely a path of the Ancestral Guardian Barbarian. Which is interesting cause Jessica learned much of her wizardry from literal vampires which might make her want to specialize in Necromancy. I can imagine that disconnect between souls and Bodies (respecting the dead vs. not respecting the dead) could also drive a wedge between them in a possible schism in Gramercy.

jewish lisowskis is very good content!! i'm not jewish so i feel weird trying to write any headcanons in that direction but i would love to hear any you might have :))

ahh!! oh i’m happy to hear someone else likes my admittedly very self indulgent jewish lisowskis headcanon!! nyc has always felt like a very jewish place to me & my family and while i love willy the golem i am also making todler grabby hands at tuc for more jewish rep in general so...jewish lisowskis! (also the whole personal & spiritual-culture-being-passed-on-from-mother-to-daughter-and-in-danger-of-being-lost-due-to-assimilation thing iga’s got going on definitely resonates with me as a jewish person.)

anyway! headcanons:

iga is ashkenazi jewish and raises her kids that way too. oksar’s goyische but not particularly religious himself, and is happy to support his wife and that part of her culture

iga is like in her fourties there’s no way she has a full head of completely gray hair just yet -- it’s just a wig! it fits the whole madame anastasia aesthetic well, but if she’s not dressing up for the job she might just wear a tichel (headscarf) instead. she’s not super observant, but she does prefer to dress tznius (modestly).

fresh challah every friday night for shabbos dinner. if there’s no time to make it at home, it’s fresh from the bakery on the way back from work

this is a sour cream on latkes household. non negotiable

the magic box is definitely not the only prized family heirloom in the house. the lisowskis definitely have a nice pair of silver shabbos candlesticks, an ornate hanukkiah, mezuzzah on the front doorpost, all precious hand-me-downs 

hamsa and ayin hara decorations on the walls actually function as magic wards to protect the appartment from hostile unsleeping city shenannigans

also, yiddish curses. they Work.

jessica goes to hebrew school twice a week. she’s prepping for her bat mitzvah. she is not thrilled at having to go to extra school all the time and doesn’t see the point in it but her mom makes her go anyway.

iga insists that it’s important, jessica can make her own faith decisions for herself afterwards, and she hopes the whole time that some day jessica will look back on it and be grateful she didn’t pass up on that part of their culture

that being said, literally nobody is cheerful when they all have to leave the house at 8:30 am on saturdays to get to synagogue on time. have you tried getting a preteen to wake up early on the weekend to go to services? it is not easy or fun for anyone involved. speaking from experience

Oops I Did it Again. Another D20 Potential Series. Unsleeping City: Generations

SPOILERS FOR UNSLEEPING CITY SEASON 2 UP THROUGH FINALE

So, there was talk on Adventuring Party about what classes the kids of the Dream Team would be, so of course I had to design and stat them.

We'll start at the top.

Alejandra "Al" Matsui, half black, half japanese, all positivity. She inherited Ricky's positive attitude and his training regimine, but her mother's gift for magic. She will be an Eldritch Knight, but for now she's a Fighter and Magic Initiate. Imagine what she's holding is a hockey stick. She loves sports and being on sports teams. She plans to be like her father and protect the umbral arcana as well as New York City.

Blair Conlan. This one was constructed out of my own mind. Sometime in the future, Pete finds a child that wandered into Nod and got lost. This was ages ago, and their family is not only long gone, but forgotten. Their long time in Nod changed Blair (into a changeling) and they don't even really know who they were before. Pete adopts Blair and tries to guide them into living in the material world again. They're a rogue, and a little standoffish, but they've become fascinated with technology and learning hacking from Maddie Park.

Jessica Lisowski was never really studious until she found magic, and then she became enraptured (obsessed, her brother Nick would say). At 24 she's in Grad School at Columbia learning histories she hopes to improve her magical knowledge. Instead of typical magic subclasses, she's part of the Order of Scribes, dedicated to learning more about the world, with her talking spellbook named Basia. She is also multiclass sorceror, with a dragonscale necklace used to connect to her dragon ancestry.

Katherine "Kat" Lee is a total Weeb. Her father Dale showed her anime as a kid and it was all cat ears and nunchuks from there. She's very fierce like her mother, and a paladin of New York City, preferring Monk Weapons to traditional swords, as was emphasized when Cody passed onto her the Questing Blade. She also has a pair of Cat Ears that she always wears, given to her by la Gran Gata. She's an Aasimar, and her wings can't let her fly, yet, but she's determined that one day they will.

Langston Brown worshipped the ground his father Kingston walked on, until he accidentally found out he was a Dragon. Now he's frustrated and full of pre-teen angst, unsure what he wants to do or be. He spends a lot of his time when not with his friends in subway tunnels (that he walks like he knows them) and using his magic paint can to graffiti them. He doesn't know what to do with finding out he has some great destiny as the Dragon of Bleaker St. He just wants to be a kid. For now he has the mechanics of a dragonborn and Dragon ancestry sorceror, which he uses an app on his phone as his magical focus (a technology invented by JJ)

Nick Lisowski has dedicated himself fully to his family's business, doing tarot readings with his mother and using his own that he inherited from her to use as an arcane focus. As a hexblade warlock, he is always ready for danger, still weilding the peasant sword, he carries the weight of his family's legacy on his back, and takes it very seriously. He is here to protect them, and especially his sister who was always the smart one and the one who he believes is destined for greatness.

I don't have a campaign fully worked out, but I think Nick and Jessica have their own apartment together, Nick 27 and Jessica 24. The kids are all about 12, and are sent to the apartment for the night for a slumber party (while their parents go on a quest to Nod for some secret magic mission). I think Time travel is involved somehow, and they're all sent on an adventure through important moments in New York History, trying to find their way back to the present.

I think this oughta be a sidequest, played by other friends of the show (so we could have cameos from the intrepid heroes at the beginning and ending) My idea: Gabe Hicks as Langston Brown, Nick Marini as Nick Lisowski, Erica Ishii as Kat Lee, Noelle Stevenson as Blair Conlan, Molly Osterntag as Jessica Lisowski, and Kristina Arielle as Al Matsui.
