Episode 11: Stephen Hopkins
In Episode 11 of Inside My Favorite Manuscript, Lindsey and Dot chat with Stephen Hopkins about Junius 11, one of the four surviving Old English poetic codices. We talked about a lot of things, including Genesis A & B, the strangeness of an Old English Exodus, horror, and nipples (yes, nipples!), and we laughed more than we have in a while.

Godlessness in the Last Days
1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.

Quite Time 2/28
What am I feeling today?
I just wish I had gone to bed earlier. I’m very tired and know I have a long day ahead of me. I also didn’t finish all my work so I’m stressed about a couple of those deadlines🥲
Sermon: The Lord Declares War! (Part 3/3)
Exodus 5:22 NIV
“Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Why, Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Is this why you sent me?”
we can relate to Moses here (why would God send us to do His work when it doesn't turn out the way we planned?) We can get discouraged and in our own head about it but keep reminding yourself that God’s plan is far greater than we can ever imagine for ourselves.
2) God Declares War on Counterfeit Imitations of the Truth!
ask yourself: am I fighting God in in any way? In what este/areas of my life and I resisting Him? Is there still something I’m holding on to?
I can get moody and distant. I can let how I’m feeling take control of me instead of being in control of my emotions.
Exodus 7:1-7 NIV
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country. But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites. And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord commanded them. Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.”
This plagues were meant to humble the Egyptians (leading the question of whether we declare war on false doctrines - bc they had their many gods) not that many people want to be entertained and not saved.
Lastly, I do wonder why it says God hardened Pharaoh’s heart. I believe it’s been explained to me but I don’t remember and wonder why? Why do that? Since He had the power to harden, why didn’t He choose to soften? Or would that just not have worked in the grand scheme of things?
1 Timothy 1:3-8 NIV
“As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm. We know that the law is good if one uses it properly.”
The law is good if we know how to use it properly! No false teachings! There are some people that claim to teach of Jesus and Christianity but it is not biblically sound and therefore is a false teaching.
2 Timothy 3:7-9 NIV
“always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.”
With those In sin, we are meant to call them out (in love) and even here is an example of calling out people by name.
Romans 8:1-4 NIV
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Communion: what does the cross mean to [……]?
To him it meant liberation!

Evil in the Last Days

1 Know this also, that in the last days perilous times shall come; 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, braggarts, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, despisers of those who are good, 4 Betrayers, reckless, egotistical, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; 5 Having an outward appearance of godliness, but denying the power of true godliness. But as for you, turn away from all these. 6 For from men such as these come those who are worming their way into houses, and are gaining control over empty-headed gullible women given over to various sins, being driven by all kinds of lust. 7 They are always learning but are never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now just as Jannes and Jambres stood against Moses, in the same manner also these are brazenly standing against the truth; they are men of depraved minds, reprobate in respect to the faith. 9 But they will proceed no further, because their folly will become clearly evident to everyone, just as theirs also was.
10 But you have closely followed my doctrine, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 Persecutions and sufferings--such as happened to me in Antioch, in Iconium, and in Lystra. You know what sort of persecutions I endured; and the Lord delivered me out of them all. 12 And indeed, everyone who desires to live godly in Christ Jesus shall be persecuted. 13 But wicked men and imposters shall become worse and worse, deceiving others and being deceived themselves. 14 But as for you, continue in the things that you did learn and were assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them; 15 And that from a child you have known the Holy Writings, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; 17 So that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work. — 2 Timothy 3 | A Faithful Version (AFV) Holy Bible, A Faithful Version © 2020 A Faithful Version. “For people will be lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters. They will be abusive (blasphemous, scoffing), disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane. [They will be] without natural [human] affection (callous and inhuman), relentless (admitting of no truce or appeasement); [they will be] slanderers (false accusers, troublemakers), intemperate and loose in morals and conduct, uncontrolled and fierce, haters of good. [They will be] treacherous [betrayers], rash, [and] inflated with self-conceit. [They will be] lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God. For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them]. For among them are those who worm their way into homes and captivate silly and weak-natured and spiritually dwarfed women, loaded down with [the burden of their] sins [and easily] swayed and led away by various evil desires and seductive impulses. [These weak women will listen to anybody who will teach them]; they are forever inquiring and getting information, but are never able to arrive at a recognition and knowledge of the Truth. Now just as Jannes and Jambres were hostile to and resisted Moses, so these men also are hostile to and oppose the Truth. They have depraved and distorted minds, and are reprobate and counterfeit and to be rejected as far as the faith is concerned. [Exod. 7:11.] But they will not get very far, for their rash folly will become obvious to everybody, as was that of those [magicians mentioned].” 2 Timothy‬ ‭3:2-9

Lost faith in God and rebelled against Him, now what?
It's not an ending but a beginning in being born again and finding what faith really is and to truly know God's love. God has a good plan for you, so, trust in Him and be patient.
To know God and still turn away in confusion and lack of faith. To change into someone who is bitter, angry, guilt ridden, depressed and anxious. To believe the demons lying and tempting them so naturally without thinking, to be foolish and harsh towards their parents. Paul says in 2 Timothy these aren't the qualities God wants in His servants and I grew to have some of them but not all:
In those times people will love only themselves and money. They will brag and be proud. They will say evil things against others. They will not obey their parents. People will not be thankful or be the kind of people God wants. Just as Jannes and Jambres were against Moses, these people are against the truth. They are people whose thinking has been confused. They have failed in trying to follow the faith. Those women always try to learn new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth fully. Some of them go into homes and get control of weak women who are full of sin. They are led to sin by the many evil desires they have. They will continue to act as if they serve God, but they will not really serve God. Stay away from those people.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Tim.3.2,2Tim.3.8,2Tim.3.7,2Tim.3.6,2Tim.3.5,2Tim.2.19&version=ICB
But He also says that to those He's predestined to be His child:
But God’s strong foundation continues to stand. These words are written on that foundation: “The Lord knows those who belong to him.” And also these words are written on that foundation, “Everyone who says that he believes in the Lord must stop doing wrong.”
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Tim.2.19&version=ICB
You may get lost and confused and choose to leave behind your Christian life because you reached the point where you have no idea what faith is or if everything you've ever been told about God is really true. And you'll start doubting what even is truth or good and bad in the first place?
God understands, He's empathetic to those who are deceived and taken under the control of the Enemy and led to sin over and over again until they've lost their minds in the storm inside their hearts and minds: the war of good and evil. You never killed who you were as a Christian and replaced her, you're STILL her and always will be because God declared it. You're just a little or very, very lost. In the end, if God loves you, you are blessed for the new heart He gave you long ago never changed as much as you think.
If you gave into temptation and find yourself hating all things Christian related, it's because the dark doesn't understand the light, and so, rejects it. It's OK to understand at one point and not at another time in your life. It's OK to say you know God and eventually come to where you don't. Yes, it does say:
If we say we don’t know him, then he will say he doesn’t know us.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Tim.2.12&version=ICB
But I was like Peter in Luke 22:54-62:
The soldiers started a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat together. Peter sat with them. A servant girl saw Peter sitting there near the light. She looked closely at Peter’s face and said, “This man was also with him!” But Peter said this was not true. He said, “Girl, I don’t know him.” A short time later, another person saw Peter and said, “You are also one of them.”But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” About an hour later, another man insisted, “It is true! This man was with him. He is from Galilee!” But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about!”Immediately, while Peter was still speaking, a rooster crowed. Then the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. And Peter remembered what the Lord had said: “Before the rooster crows tonight, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Then Peter went outside and cried with much pain in his heart. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke.22.55,Luke.22.56,Luke.22.57,Luke.22.58,Luke.22.59,Luke.22.60,Luke.22.61,Luke.22.62&version=ICB
I SWORE I would NEVER leave God, why would I? I loved God! So, when I found myself turning away, I knew what I was doing but I still couldn't believe it, i didn't know what I was doing or why, but I was anyways because of the demons whispering to me. But STILL, Jesus was with me and He was saddened, I could feel it but I myself just felt sad and sinning hurt Him, who's in me, so I was in a lot of emotional hurt as I was being spiritually crucified, to be brought back to life 7 years later. Jesus was watching me, probably thinking, "I know this isn't who you are. You're just hurt and confused."
I've also seen this a lot:
Some people cannot be brought back again to a changed life. They were once in God’s light. They enjoyed heaven’s gift, and they shared in the Holy Spirit. They found out how good God’s word is, and they received the powers of his new world. And then they fell away from Christ! It is not possible to keep on bringing them back to a changed life again. For they are nailing the Son of God to a cross again and are shaming him in front of others.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Heb.6.4,Heb.6.5,Heb.6.6&version=ICB
But a Christian will ALWAYS have salvation as long as they believe in the Gospel (John 3:16). Hebrews 6:6 is a warning to Christians that doubt leads to rebellion which leads to sin. You still have salvation but it's going to take a lot of heart ache to clear away the spiritual thorns you've grown.
If God let you turn away in the first place, to let you be blind to His truth and appear absent (when He really isn't), it's a trial, it's to test you in battle against evil and even if you can't fight, God will try to help you and save you when it gets too serious. He's letting you go your own way (it's ALWAYS the wrong way) so you can learn a LOT from it. God gives us free will because He wants a REAL relationship with us, one where we choose to love Him and be with Him, not where we're forced to. He'll always love you but He understands if it's not always easy to feel the same way. If going down this path is REALLY what you want, He loves you, so, He respects your choice. I wish He wouldn't let me make decisions and just puppeteer me because I tend to make foolish ones a lot because I lean on my own understanding which is never nearly as comprehensive as God's. However, His Will, will be done and it's always good, so, as bad as sin is (in making it easier to have a desire for it and do it without thinking), I think He sometimes lets it happen, like surely knowing Adam and Eve would curse humanity and get kicked out of Eden, but it's part of gathering a good army against evil, ones that have been sided with the Enemy but turned away. Even some angels turned from Him, so, instead of sparing humanity from this curse in the beginning by killing Adam and Eve and remaking humanity, but He loved them and so, had mercy on them and allowed humanity to grow as it has, endless wars between sides and an abundance of good people and wicked. He let the problem exist in the first place for the very same reason He let you turn away from Him, and it's so, we will experience His amazing Grace and His power to turn the bad into good. When all of humanity was just 2 people, it was the consequence of sin that they should die but they got to live in the world and become a part of it and eventually, through their off spring, through Noah's and Abraham's and David's came another human, BORN Holy WITHOUT humanity's curse to sin compulsively and unknowingly, this baby was without sin of His own and the perfect child of God in every way even never faltering to stay steadfast while being tempted and tortured. All of humanity was to die to pay the price of sinning. But God was STILL merciful, He didn't create His son to give rise to a new generation to inherit holiness through heredity, but to save all those that came before, during and after His time, so that ALL of humanity has a fair chance to be a child of God like Jesus. And so, the wrath God had, has and will have for anyone that disobeyed Him and acted in ungodly ways, put to death ONE man, not even fully human, for He was conceived with The Holy Spirit, so that anyone can become like Him: Holy, a NEW kind of human, whose hearts have an instinct of right from wrong (a good conscience, not what qualifies as "sin" specifically) and to have a longing for God. It's in this way, through Jesus, we are united in Him, His sufferings are ours and ours, His. Dying on the cross went deeper than just getting barbaric piercings, He took the punishment from God for what countless people have done. I had a reveren who theorized Jesus went to Hell because that's the punishment, I think if He did, it was for eternity, and for the world, it was only 3 days. God knew Adam and Eve would sin and let it happen so, evil would come to fear Him. For the power of evil to be continuously purified and cast out from God's people and to give His people the power to fight too (if evil spirits are bothering you, merely name dropping Jesus is enough to shoo them away). I think no matter what horrors beyond our understanding, Jesus endured, clearly coming back from it was enough to break reality and have every evil spirit in existence cower and flee at merely the mention of His name, which His power extends to, just as the Father's power extends to His Word.
I was just a teenager when SO much stress and torment from demons caused me to lose faith, and oh boy, was that ever true. That was only the SHADOW of the Valley of Death, it felt like I was in the real thing! I believed the lies that everything I've ever been told about God was a lie, just a fairytale, just a psychological product of nurturing. I couldn't stand being away from God but I didn't want to go back, or thought I couldn't. So, I tried to be spiritual in other ways like connecting with nature like Wiccans do. I found myself believing in fairy tales that I eventually discovered weren't true and one day, after 3 years of heart ache, there was only God's Word, the truest truth I needed to give me healing. Before thatz dubt kept me away from hearing God's promises and thus, hope in Him. I NEEDED a light in the dark, I NEEDED to be in the eye of the storm with Him instead of tossed about like a ragdoll. But, I think God had a plan in letting me go my own way for a little bit and feel sin's sting. The experience would eventually come to make my faith stronger than it was before I lost it. It would make me empathetic to all the things in the Bible about sin and knowledgeable first hand of the Enemy's tricks. His love and grace would become so much sweeter. And ALL the many lies I believed would be set right and I would feel immense regret for giving in to temptation and repent fervently.
How could I sing praises of being saved if I already was ever since I was 4? Know what it's like to be spiritually dead and come to life if I was saved as an innocent being and so, never had knowledge of that misery and suffering? I think I knew all of this too when I prayed to God saying I needed a break from Him so I could figure myself out as I was having an identity crisis and was too confused and troubled to think about Him. I think I knew, distance makes the heart grow fonder and one day, I'd return.
I think He let me go through all that so I would be here with a testimony of how His love saved me from evil and to teach and encourage others who might be in the same position as I was or if they're still in the beginning stages of losing faith.
If you're wandering in darkness and think, "this is my life now, for I've turned away and don't think I can go back." God FEELS for you, He's going to keep reaching out to you and fighting for you until you're safe in His arms again. And He's NEVER left you.
If we are not faithful,he will still be faithful, because he must be true to who he is.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Tim.2.13&version=ICB
Though in good conscience, I look back on those dreaded days and in all honesty, God was still blessing me and silently guiding me, so, it wasn't that bad, but I cringe at the steps I took in the wrong directions and feel regretful and a bit ashamed. Inside my mind and heart, they were twisted and distorted and in pain. I think that's the eternal suffering we'd endure in Hell. Not literal pain like you got a paper cut or stubbed your toe, but the mental and emotional pain of being tormented by evil spirits and feeling your spirit break and your soul lose its light (you can see I was depressed and dealing with a lot of mental health issues I never had to deal with before on that scale). And it'd CONTINUE to be like that without Jesus putting an end to it. Though, God does say He's already chosen who will be saved and who wouldn't long ago, and I like to think that good people with kind, selfless hearts passed before someone could tell them about Jesus, that He'd appear to them once they're no longer in this world and offer them salvation. And to those that were truly Hell spawn, then even though they're human like me, sinners like me, and I have empathy for them, I have to let God's Will be done and to learn to hate what He hates and love what He loves.
God did not give us a spirit that makes us afraid. He gave us a spirit of power and love and self-control. God saved us and made us his holy people. That was not because of anything we did ourselves but because of what he wanted and because of his grace. That grace was given to us through Christ Jesus before time began. It was not shown to us until our Savior Christ Jesus came. Jesus destroyed death. And through the Good News, he showed us the way to have life that cannot be destroyed. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2Tim.1.7,2Tim.1.9,2Tim.1.10&version=ICB

They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

“Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.” Romans‬ ‭1:28‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭NIV‬‬
One of the worst things you can have as a Christian is a reprobate mind. The knowledge of God but not the lifestyle of God. We justify our sins (actions) as acceptable, the double standard, and hypocritical. Know God’s Word for yourself by spending time in it. God’s word is the law, and following it will give you true rewards versus temporary pleasure. God will deliver you from your thoughts and actions. What is good for man is not always acceptable to God. Seek God FIRST, study His Word, pray, praise, worship, repent, listen, celebrate, meditate, observe, believe, ask, surrender, fellowship, forgive, give, and be grateful and obedient.

2 Timothy 3
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

“So surely you ought to stick to what you know is certain.”
“All of Scripture is God-breathed…”
Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 3rd chapter of the letter of 2nd Timothy:
And know this: in the last days, times will be hard. You see, the world will be filled with narcissistic, money-grubbing, pretentious, arrogant, and abusive people. They will rebel against their parents and will be ungrateful, unholy, uncaring, coldhearted, accusing, without restraint, savage, and haters of anything good. Expect them to be treacherous, reckless, swollen with self-importance, and given to loving pleasure more than they love God. Even though they may look or act like godly people, they’re not. They deny His power. I tell you: Stay away from the likes of these. They’re snakes slithering into the houses of vulnerable women, women gaudy with sin, to seduce them. These reptiles can capture them because these women are weak and easily swayed by their desires. They seem always to be learning, but they never seem to gain the full measure of the truth. And, just as Jannes and Jambres rose up against Moses, these ungodly people defy the truth. Their minds are corrupt, and their faith is absolutely worthless. But they won’t get too far because their stupidity will be noticed by everyone, just as it was with Jannes and Jambres.
You have been a good student. You have closely observed how I have lived. You’ve followed my instructions, my habits, my purpose, my faith, my patience. You’ve watched how I love and have seen how I endure. You have been with me through persecutions and sufferings—remember what they did to me in Antioch? In Iconium and Lystra? I endured all of it, and the Lord rescued me from it all! Anyone wishing to live a godly life in Jesus the Anointed will be hunted down and persecuted. But as for the wicked and the imposters, they will keep leading and following each other further and further away from the truth. So surely you ought to stick to what you know is certain. All you have learned comes from people you know and trust because since childhood you have known the holy Scriptures, which enable you to be wise and lead to salvation through faith in Jesus the Anointed. All of Scripture is God-breathed; in its inspired voice, we hear useful teaching, rebuke, correction, instruction, and training for a life that is right so that God’s people may be up to the task ahead and have all they need to accomplish every good work.
The Letter of 2nd Timothy, Chapter 3 (The Voice)
A note from the Voice translation:
Paul challenges Timothy to be prepared. Hard times are coming. Things will go from bad to worse, he warns, because pretentious, hostile, hateful, and betraying people are out there. He tells Timothy to stay away from them and to continue to look to Paul’s example, enduring in love and recalling how Paul himself has followed Jesus. For if Jesus was persecuted, then what should His followers expect for themselves? In the midst of this warning, Paul encourages Timothy.
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 10th chapter of the book of Ezekiel:
Then I looked and saw what looked like a throne made of sapphire up above the expanse over the heads of the winged guardians. God spoke to the man clothed in linen.
Eternal One: Go among the spinning wheels beneath the winged guardians; gather the burning charcoal among them into your hands, and then spread the coals over the city.
While I was watching, the man clothed in linen went among the wheels.
Now the winged guardians stood on the south side of the temple when the man clothed in linen entered. A great cloud filled the inner court. Then the glory of the Eternal rose above the guardians and moved to the doorway of the temple. The cloud swelled and filled the temple, and the court was full of the blazing presence of the glory of the Eternal. The otherworldly sound made by the guardians’ wings could be heard as far away as the outer court and sounded like the voice of God Almighty.
When God instructed the man clothed in linen, “Remove fire from among the wheels that sit next to the winged guardians,” the man went and stood next to a wheel. Then one of those creatures reached into the fire burning among them, grabbed hold of some of the fiery coals, and placed them into the hands of the man wearing linen. The man took them and left the temple court. It was then I noticed that underneath the wings of the creatures were what looked like human hands.
Then I looked and saw four wheels, one beside each of the winged guardians. The wheels glittered like sun-kissed jewels. All four wheels looked exactly alike; each wheel appeared to have another one inside it. As the wheels moved, they went in any of the four directions the living creatures faced. They rolled straight ahead, never swerving off to the side. The entire bodies of the living creatures—their hands, backs, and wings—and the wheels belonging to each of them were covered with what appeared to be eyes. I heard someone call the wheels “the spinning wheels.” Each of the winged guardians had four faces: the first was the face of a guardian, the second the face of a human, a third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
Then the winged guardians ascended. These were the same living creatures I had seen earlier near the Chebar Canal. When they moved, the wheels stayed right beside them. When the guardians stretched out their wings to rise from the ground, the wheels followed after them. When the guardians stood still, so did the wheels. And when they flew up, so did the wheels, because the spirit of the four living creatures was in the wheels.
Then the glory of the Eternal departed from the temple doorway and hovered above the winged guardians. I continued to watch the creatures stretch out their wings and rise up from the ground, and as they rose, the wheels went along with them. The creatures and the wheels stopped at the entrance to the east gate of the Eternal’s temple. There, the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them.
These were the same living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel near the Chebar Canal. I understood that they were the heavenly winged guardians. Each of the living creatures had four faces and four wings, and beneath each wing was what looked like human hands. Their faces looked exactly like the faces I had seen near the Chebar Canal. Each of them went straight ahead.
The Book of Ezekiel, Chapter 10 (The Voice)
A note from the Voice translation:
These fantastic winged creatures are the same living beings Ezekiel encounters in his initial vision (chapter 1). They serve two purposes in Scripture: accompanying the presence of God—as Ezekiel describes twice—and guarding some of God’s holiest places. Creatures like these, of course, strike fear in anyone who sees them; their otherworldly appearance is perfect for decorating the covenant chest in the temple and guarding the way to the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24). The creatures’ fantastic appearance has inspired artists and craftsmen for generations. Depictions of these heavenly creatures appear all over the temple and the tabernacle; they are sewn into tapestries, engraved on walls, and used to decorate tools of worship.

A post by John Parsons about a “broken” heart:
C.S. Lewis once perceptively said, "Mental pain is less traumatic than physical pain, but it is more common, and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say “My tooth is aching”, than to say “My heart is broken.” Mental pain is often regarded as “private language,” and often we feel alone in our sufferings.
Many of us experience loneliness because we sometimes feel unseen, or unwanted, or we fear that revealing who we really are will make us look bad or be a burden to others... But you need to ask whether you regard the story of your life as worth telling? Have you learned to be a "good steward" of your pain?
Some people may feel apprehensive about revealing their woundedness to others because when they had ventured to open their hearts in the past they had been misunderstood, or people just tried to “fix” them. Instead of asking for answers, however, a hurting soul really needs just someone to be there to listen and to know who they are.
Brokenness should not be disdained, especially among the people of God. After all, Yeshua (and all of the Hebrew prophets) suffered, wept, and were broken. Of Yeshua it is said: "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows (אישׁ מַכְאֹבוֹת), and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not" (Isa. 53:3). Sadly, many may equate "brokenness" with mental illness or emotional disturbance (or worse), but that is not true. In fact, without brokenness, we cannot know our need for the Savior; and without loneliness, we cannot know Him as our only true healer in this life.
One of our greatest spiritual needs is a sense of acceptance. Every one of us struggles with sin and anxiety. Do you ever feel ashamed or defective or unworthy? You are not alone. Do you sometimes feel lost or afraid? The Spirit of the LORD speaks to the broken of heart: al tirah ki imakha ani, “fear not, for I am with you” (Isa 40:10; Psalm 34:18).
May the LORD help us draw close to His heart for consolation in our troubles, as it is written: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, the Father of mercies (אַב הָרַחֲמִים) and God of all comfort (אֱלֹהֵי כָּל־נֶחָמָה), who comforts us in all our afflictions, that we may be able to comfort those who are afflicted, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God" (2 Cor. 1:3-4). May we learn to love Him "bekhol le'levavkah," with all our heart, that is, with all our "good heart" and all our troubled heart as well. In this way we will be able to bear the burdens of others and so “make complete” (ἀναπληρώσατε) the Torah of Messiah (Gal. 6:2). Amen.

from yesterday’s email by Israel 365:
The Bible is not a book of history. It is a living and breathing book that speaks to us now, in this moment, just as it has spoken to us in every generation before us. It is God’s way of guiding us through these dark times.

Rest with Us
“Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.” (2 Thessalonians 1:6-7)
The Christians in the young church at Thessalonica, very soon after accepting Christ, underwent severe “persecutions and tribulations” (v. 4). The apostle Paul wrote to commend them that God had thus judged them to be “counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer” (v. 5). That is, the kingdom of God was being persecuted when they were persecuted, and God would certainly repay their tormentors in kind. The believers’ tribulations were from men. Those who were being troubled would receive “rest with us” from God (“rest” here is a noun, not a verb).
The Thessalonians must realize, however, that this righteous recompense—at least in its full measure—must await the return of the Lord Jesus. They must resist the temptation to repay their persecutors in kind if the opportunity should come. “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord” (Romans 12:19). They must simply continue to “endure” and “suffer,” so that “our God would count you worthy of this calling, and...that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you” (2 Thessalonians 1:4-5, 11-12).
The Lord Jesus Himself is our example, “that ye should follow his steps:...Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously” (1 Peter 2:21, 23).
“In the last days...all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:1, 12), and latter-day Christians may very well have opportunity to put this ancient counsel to the Thessalonians into present practice. If so, may God give us the grace to endure as they endured! HMM

Daniel 3:3-7 3 Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, 5 That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: 6 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 7 Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
KEY VERSES: 2 Timothy 3:8 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. Revelation 2:24 24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
Do the research. Connect the dots. Draw your own conclusions. I have drawn mines. Use common sense. Use discernment. You may not like the messenger but you can appreciate the message.

For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.
