Burn [Banri Settsu x Juza Hyodo]
Pairing: Banri x Juza | A3! Rating: T (Language) Prompt: You cannot feel pain until you touch your soulmate C/Ws: non-graphic fighting, soulmate AU, has canon elements but departs from canon Summary: Juza’s fist connects with his jaw, making Banri shudder. It has to be a joke. He feels his nerve endings in a way they had never been alive before. Now he understands why certain guys run away from fights like it is hell. But this newfound pain he is feeling? It might be a sensation he could get addicted to. Word count: 2.6k A/N: This may be the only time you catch me writing enemies to lovers, but, were they ever really enemies to begin with? Also, a quick shout-out to the Mankai Archive and everyone who contributed <3 I could re-watch/read Banri and Juza’s handcuffed scene thanks to it :’)
Banri smirks to himself when he finally sees a person who matches the description he had been given of Juza Hyodo: purple hair, a permanent angry gesture on his face, and the uniform of Ouka High School. He is so proud of himself for only taking one afternoon to find him, that he doesn’t pay attention to the plastic bag Juza is holding.
The ice cream is already beginning to melt inside the box, but Juza refrains from fanning himself. It’s an atypically hot day, but that’s not exactly the reason why Juza decided to indulge in ice cream. His mouth begins to water just thinking of the amazing time he’ll have once he’s in his room, spoon repeatedly stabbing at the food to stuff his face with it.
However, the ice cream will not make it safely to his stomach, no. There will be some other hurdles first. One of them is named Banri Settsu. But Juza doesn’t know that yet. He is obliviously walking home, too used to feeling the intense prickling sensation of other people’s gazes on him to notice that this particular gaze feels different. That he should be afraid of it. But he’s too used to other people being afraid of him.
“Oi.”
Juza keeps walking, unaffected. Sometimes, ignoring people makes them lose interest in him. They always think he’s ready to jump at the lowest chance of a fight, but it’s far from the truth. It’s not that Juza runs away – he has never, and he knows better than that by now.
“Oi, ‘m talkin’ to you, piece o’shit.”
Juza clenches his jaws and exhales through his nose. It’s a persistent one. Well, he better make that quick, because he isn’t about to let his ice cream melt for a simple delinquent. However, he doesn’t turn around, but simply keeps walking.
“You, you’re Juza Hyodo, right?”
At the mention of his name, Juza finally looks up and turns back, facing the stranger. It’s just one guy, and he doesn’t seem that strong. But Juza knows better than to judge a book by its cover. He may be quick and agile, and if he’s come alone to pick up a fight with him, he must be crazy, too.
“’n you are?” Juza changes the plastic bag from his right hand to his left one, wondering if there would be a way for him to not have to drop the ice cream box on the floor. He likes being safe, it allows for a cleaner – and quicker – fight, but he also respects and appreciates his food.
“Banri Settsu, the man that’ll kick your ass ‘n take the title of undefeated delinquent.” Banri approaches him with a calm and confident smile, like he hasn’t just proposed a fight and is instead complimenting him in hopes of getting something. Which in a way, he is.
That what he’s after? Juza looks around, trying to find a place where they can solve this without being in the way of people, because it looks like it is going to be a pain in the ass.
And he would’ve never guessed that wouldn’t be the only time he sees Banri. Or has to fight with him, for that matter.
Juza’s fist connects with his jaw, making Banri shudder. It has to be a joke. He feels his nerve endings in a way they had never been alive before. Now he understands why certain guys run away from fights like it is hell. But this newfound pain he is feeling? It might be a sensation he could get addicted to.
Banri throws a punch back, but Juza effectively blocks it. Why now, though? There weren’t any cute girls around, and no one else had touched him in a while.
Juza goes for his stomach. He is getting tired of this and wants to go home as soon as possible. It was a good day until this punk showed up, separating him from the ice cream. While Banri steps back from the impact and coughs, Juza looks to the side, confirming the plastic bag with his precious snack is still on one of the benches of the empty park. His gaze is tender to the point where anyone who sees it would be convinced Juza is an angel – but sadly only the ice cream box has the privilege of being the recipient of that gesture, before his countenance chances once more.
Banri is breathing heavily, trying to find some respite from this new-found sensation – pain. He looks up from the ground, removing his hands from his stomach and placing them on his knees. Was it really Juza? The Juza Hyodo is the one who has caused his pain sensation to be triggered?
But that can only mean one thing. And Banri feels it is too fantastical to be the truth.
“You had enough?” Juza speaks huskily, making it seem like he is spitting his words.
“Like hell,” Banri chuckles and straightens up as if he had just appeared in front of him. He believes he can ignore this new feeling, this “pain”. It’s not the first time he doesn’t pay attention to his body. Winning the fight is more important. After all, if this had been easy, if Juza had been as easy to beat as all those other shits, it would’ve been a disappointment. But this isn’t the end.
Banri takes a couple of steps forward, feeling encouraged by the adrenaline in his system. Juza rolls his neck, waiting for his next move. He seems so calm and collected to Banri, and that’s what pisses him off the most. Why does he have to be the only pathetic one when they’re both in pain?
Except, Juza doesn’t feel pain. It’s not because Banri didn’t get to hit him – he did, even if it wasn’t as many times as he would’ve wanted. Juza’s pain reaction hasn’t been triggered. His nerves still lay dormant to that sensation, even if his body is taking some damage.
But that’s something Banri doesn’t know now. So he feels frustrated he cannot see Juza writhing in pain.
Most delinquents are only active before they meet their soulmates. Of course, that means there are also some reckless people who take it as a pledge of allegiance to keep fighting after being subjected to pain, but Banri hasn’t seen them. Most delinquents he has had contact with are his age and are only taking advantage of not feeling like their bodies are on fire. But Banri is curious about what someone in pain looks like. Someone like Juza in pain – the image in Banri’s mind sends a new wave of anticipation through his veins.
When Juza sees Banri bend over, he wonders why someone with the capacity to feel pain would pick up a fight he isn’t likely to win cleanly. He doesn’t believe not feeling pain is a blessing like most delinquents he dealt with thought. For Juza, feeling pain means you have a blessing to treasure in your life. He wonders why someone with a soulmate in their lives would put themselves in danger like that. He can’t help but wonder what sort of person Banri’s soulmate is and whether they’d be mad if he got into a fight.
If Juza became someone’s soulmate, he wouldn’t want them to suffer. But he doubts he is anyone’s soulmate. He is too used to the feeling of isolation to believe there is a red string tied to his pinky finger connecting him with anyone.
And yet, at this moment, their red string is so tangled around them that if it became visible, they would only see red.
**
That isn’t the only time Banri has fought since developing the sensation of pain. He wanted to see if it was really real and not just something he had imagined, so he found other delinquents to fight with.
However, he found out that pain has a different quality. The bite, the aftershocks, everything is subtle but different.
He has started believing there is a reason why he felt he could get addicted to pain. But it isn’t the pain caused by just anyone.
Banri would’ve never guessed he could become a masochist. But his body and mind are behaving in weird ways since he met Juza.
**
Everything stayed the same after joining Mankai. The pain is still different depending on the source, and only Juza has the power to make him feel that pain differently. However, he hasn’t turned into a masochist. And he also doesn’t understand why Juza cannot feel pain. Isn’t he supposed to be his soulmate? Why does Juza get to keep his freedom and ignorance while Banri just keeps quiet?
He hasn’t heard of anyone who can feel pain differently depending on whether it is their soulmate inflicting it or not, but he also guesses other people’s soulmates don’t exactly beat them up.
Banri has started thinking that somehow, it must’ve been a misunderstanding of some sort. Maybe someone had indeed touched him before his first fight with Juza and he didn’t realise. A passerby, mindlessly bumping their hands. Maybe the effect had been delayed, and it didn’t take place until Juza hit him, like waking his body up. That has to be the only possible reason why Juza still doesn’t feel pain.
So Banri has started confronting him less. Where is the fun in challenging someone who is not your soulmate? Banri still wants to beat Juza, but somehow it doesn’t feel as exciting as before.
Everyone thinks it is because they are finally starting to get along better, or that Banri has calmed down, has matured – and he has. Having his heart broken sobered him up. It changed him. He isn’t so full of rage and restlessness anymore. The pain has filled the emptiness. Things aren’t so easy and boring.
And the theatre and his troupe keep proving to him there is more to life than his way of thinking. That’s how, one day, their red string wraps around them again.
“What did you do?” Juza scowls at Banri, scrutinising him.
“The hell you mean? Didn’t do nothin’.” Banri heaves out, not even bothering looking back at Juza. They have just taught the thief who took Izumi’s purse a lesson, and Banri isn’t about to take any responsibility for anything he didn’t do. Especially not when it’s the first time he has felt like Juza and him could become a team, and a solid one at that.
Juza opens and closes his fists, trying to get rid of the sensation bloating his hands. It is new and strange, and it leaves him wondering what happened. Before running off after the thief, everything was normal – if being handcuffed to Banri can be considered normal, that is. And now… a memory flashes before his eyes, and the word appears clear in his mind: pain. This is pain, this new sensation he is feeling. But why?
Juza observes Banri’s movements, trying to find the answer he is looking for. And he soon finds it. When the rest of the Autumn troupe arrives at the scene and contacts the police, Sakyo finally removes the handcuffs and Juza sees Banri step aside. Before his face is outside of his range of vision, Banri’s countenance contorts in what Juza knows is an expression of pain.
Since when does Banri feel pain? Did he always feel it and Juza just didn’t notice it before?
As Banri is blowing on his knuckles in an attempt to cool off his scratches, Juza gulps down the knot that has formed in his throat.
He cannot know it for sure, but he has an inkling, a suspicion he doesn’t know if he wants to see confirmed or denied. All he knows is that as they make it back to the dorms, he cannot see Banri in the same light. Is it just because of the pain? If nothing in his body had changed, Juza wonders whether he’d still be following Banri with his gaze. He doesn’t want to imagine things, he wants real facts. And the real facts are for a few minutes back there when they were chasing after the thief, he didn’t hate being handcuffed to Banri.
“Since when do things hurt?” Juza approaches Banri on what he assumes is his way to the bathroom, to get the first-aid kit.
“The hell are you gettin’ so philosophical for?”
“I’m talkin’ physical pain.” Juza doesn’t even blink for fear of missing Banri’s reaction.
“Dunno what you’re talkin’ about.” He opens the cabinet and takes out the king-sized first-aid kit Izumi decided to buy for the dorm.
“You were grimacin’.” Juza doesn’t need to add anything else for Banri to feel his hands suddenly grow cold. He quickly grabs the bandages and pretends to be busy opening the package, so that it isn’t weird that he cannot look him in the eye.
“’Cause I have to see your ugly face.” Why does he feel like a kid who has been found guilty? He told himself he wasn’t about to take responsibility for anything he didn’t do. And if he ever did anything, it was weeks ago. Now it’s too late for Juza to ask him to take accountability for anything. It’s too late for regrets.
“I also see your ugly face ‘n’ don’t flinch like that.” He isn’t going to take the bait or storm away like usual. He wants real answers, not the nonsense Banri usually spouts.
Banri clicks his tongue and decides to ignore him. He isn’t about to confess he has been feeling physical pain since he met Juza, not when his fists look like a mess. He needs to be ready for a fight in situations like that.
“Lemme bandage you.” Juza takes the bundle from his hands and forces Banri’s hands open. When he starts working on covering his wounds, he feels an electric shock run from the tips of his fingers through his arm, a heat spreading on his chest and neck.
“You’re not even doin’ this right.” Banri immediately removes his hands, busying himself with going back to the first-aid kit and taking out some wound disinfectant to apply it to his wounds.
“You’re goin’ to pretend that didn’t happen?” Juza sounds almost pissed, but it is mostly disbelief. He wouldn’t have guessed Banri is able to ignore such an intense sensation.
Banri plays dumb, not even reacting to his words. Or so he’d like to think because his hands are trembling so much the disinfectant is trickling down his extremities and running down the sink.
Juza sighs and takes the small bottle from him, grabbing one of his hands and stabilizing it enough to pour the liquid only on the wounds. Their palms are abnormally hot, and it makes Banri’s vision blurry.
“It hurt today,” Juza casually whispers, the sound amplified by the silence in the bathroom. Banri looks up from the sink in disbelief. “I couldn’t feel pain before, but it hurt today.” Juza is now bandaging his hand, but Banri can’t even remember when he put the bottle of disinfectant away. Everything is moving too fast, and yet, when he looks at Juza, his movements are slow and deliberate.
His eyes burn.
“I don’t wanna talk ‘bout this pain shit.” Banri finally speaks, but he feels as if he had just slurred his words. That’s how much his head is spinning.
Juza looks at him and a confident smile spreads through his face. Two things are for certain: it is the first time he sees Banri with an embarrassed and vulnerable look on his face, and he didn’t say he doesn’t want to talk with him about the other side of that pain.
That their hands aren’t just connected right now as he is bandaging him, and that they share a stronger connection than the physical realm can prove.
.
.
.
A/N: it’s been so long since I last wrote ;-; I hope this was enjoyable and please excuse any mistakes, writing Juza and Banri’s speech is especially difficult for me >.<

A3! Sakisaka Muku - Translation [SSR] Happy Bunny Celebration (3/3)
Tumblr media
*Please read disclaimer on blog; default name set as Izumi
---
Kumon: …Gotcha!
Tumblr media
Manager: And Kumon-kun amazingly catches the egg that was about to fall! Is this catching power cultivated by the baseball club!?
Muku: Kyu-chan’s amazing!
Yuki: Way to go, Kumon. Oh, he’ll be here soon.
Kumon: Take it, Yuki!
Yuki: Got it, got it.
Manager: What’s this? Spring troupe, who were contenders for first place up until now, suddenly split off! The runner is… Chigasaki-kun!
Itaru: *Pant, pant*… I can’t do this after using up all my stamina in the egg roll.
Tumblr media
Chikage: Chigasaki’s wasting the lead I gained.
Kazunari: Mm, I’ve got a feeling this is gonna open up a lot of distance between Spring troupe.
Muku: But there’s not much difference from Winter troupe and Autumn troupe is catching up too…!
Yuki: *Pant, pant*… now it gets real. Don’t let them overtake you.
Tenma: I got it. Leave it to me.
Tsumugi: Err… wow, it’s hard to balance…!
Tumblr media
Manager: Now for the fourth runner… rather than running, Winter troupe’s Tsukioka-kun is going at a speed closer to walking! Summer troupe’s Sumeragi-kun is pulling further and further away!
Tasuku: …There’s no point complaining. Tsumugi’s still going faster than when we practiced.
Misumi: It looks like Tenma’s gonna pass it off in first place~!
Muku: Except Autumn troupe’s next runner is Banri-san. I bet he’ll be fast…!
Manager: In first place is fifth runner, Summer troupe’s Miyoshi-kun as the egg is handed over!
Tenma: I protected our lead. I’ll leave the rest to you!
Tumblr media
Kazunari: No problemo!
Muku: (Once Kazu-kun runs all the way here, it’ll be my turn. Just a little more…!)
Juza: …
Muku: Ah. So you were Autumn troupe’s anchor, Ju-chan.
Tumblr media
Juza: You too, huh? …I’m not gonna lose today.
Muku: Fufu, same here. I have to give it my all for everyone who has passed the egg up until here!
Manager: Miyoshi-kun and Settsu-kun sprinted towards the final relay point at roughly the same time!
Kazunari: Sorry, Mukkun. Settzer basically caught up…!
Muku: Don’t worry. We’re still first, Kazu-kun! I’ll do my best from here on out!
Manager: Summer troupe is the first to transfer their egg to their anchor! They’ve maintained their lead the whole way, but it looks like Autumn troupe’s on the verge of catching up…!
Banri: Aren’t your hands shakin’, you dunce? I can’t hand it over like this!
Tumblr media
Juza: Ahh? You’re the one who’s shakin’. If you don’t come at me head on, then I can’t take it.
Banri: Say that again?
Manager: Oh dear, it looks like Settsu-kun and Hyodo-kun are fighting over the delivery of the egg! Autumn troupe has come to a complete stop!
Masumi: What are those two doing?
Sakyo: Good grief. Was that order a mistake after all?
Manager: And with that, it’s a Summer troupe breakaway! Sakisaka-kun is running lightly despite the obstacle in his way!
Muku: I have to run all the way to the goal without dropping this egg that everyone has passed down to me…!
Tumblr media
Kazunari: Go for it, Mukkun!
Misumi: Muku, just a little more!
Muku: I see the goal! Everyone…!
Manager: Sakisaka-kun has now cut the goal tape in an untouchable first position!
Kumon: MUKU! YOU’RE FIRST! YOU KILLED IT!
Yuki: See? We said you’d be able to do it, didn’t we?
Tenma: He did well not faltering under pressure.
Tumblr media
Muku: Yay, I did it…!
Tumblr media
Manager: First place goes to Summer troupe! They secured the win with their superb teamwork!
-pause-
Izumi: Great job today, everyone!
Muku: Wow, we’re having curry for dinner tonight!
Tumblr media
Izumi: Everyone must be starving, right? I’ve made lots, so don’t hesitate to let me know if you’d like seconds.
Kumon: Thanks! Alriiight, I’m gonna stuff myself to the brim!
Tenma: By the way, Director. What was the winning prize?
Kazunari: Ah! That’s right, you told us to look forward to the day of, but we haven’t heard anything about Director’s reward yet!
Misumi: Summer troupe won, so maybe it really is a triangle~?
Tumblr media
Izumi: Everyone, drumroll please. The winning prize is… this!
Yuki: …Don’t tell me it’s the eggs that are placed on top of the curry?
Izumi: Correct! When you say Easter, you think of eggs. So only Summer troupe’s curry get eggs as toppings!
Summer troupe: EHH~!
Tumblr media
Izumi: …I thought you’d say that, so I’ve also prepared another prize. Here.
Muku: Umm, these are… also eggs?
Kazunari: Ah, I know what these are! There’s pudding inside these eggs~!
Yuki: I see. The eggshell is a container. It’s trendy.
Misumi: They look yummy~!
Kumon: I wanna eat one! But I guess dessert can wait ‘til after the curry.
Tenma: Geez. I’m relieved it’s not just the egg toppings. All of us worked so hard, you know?
Muku: I’m delighted with this lovely Easter reward…!
Option 1: “Sorry for startling you”
Izumi: Ahaha, sorry for startling you! I knew the egg toppings alone wouldn’t be enough.
Muku: I was a bit surprised at first—. But when I think about it, I’m sure I would’ve been happy with just the egg topping too.
Izumi: Why’s that?
Muku: Because no matter what kind of prize it is, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s something Summer troupe won by all working hard together! Actually, even if there wasn’t a prize, I’m satisfied with just the fact all of us were able to win the championship together!
Izumi: That sounds like something you would say, Muku-kun.
Muku: Ah! H-however, that doesn’t mean I’m dissatisfied with this reward from you, Director-san!
Izumi: Fufu, I know. Don’t worry.
Option 2: “I’m glad if you say so”
Izumi: I’m glad if you say so. The truth is, I put quite a lot of thought into what everyone might like for the reward.
Muku: I see. It sounds tough since you didn’t know who would get it in the end. And you also had to consider something that would match all the troupe member’s tastes.
Kazunari: This pudding varies a lot in sweetness depending on the type, right! So everyone can choose the sweetness of their liking.
Izumi: Yeah, exactly. The plain ones aren’t that sweet, but the chocolate ones look pretty cavity-inducing.
Tenma: Do you want plain then, Kumon?
Kumon: Yep! I’ll choose that one!
Yuki: I’m good with strawberry.
Muku: You’re so amazing, Director-san. You made everyone happy while also picking out something adorable and fitting for Easter!
Izumi: I appreciate it, Muku-kun.
Kazunari: But hey, I’m real glad Mukkun was our anchor!
Yuki: Only Muku could’ve run that fast while avoiding that obstacle.
Kumon: Muku was super duper cool!
Tumblr media
Tenma: Today’s MVP was Muku, without a doubt.
Misumi: Thanks, Muku~!
Muku: I had absolutely no confidence and was worrying the whole time. But I could give it my all thanks to all of your support. So I’m really the one who wants to say thanks. Thank you so much, everyone…!

A3! Translation: Muku Sakisaka's SSR [Wonderfloof Smile] - Favorite Leash
Tumblr media
Mankai Company is taking care of Muku's relative's dog, Moka, as her owner is away for an urgent matter. However, an incident occurs during her stay...
???: Woof!
Izumi: ...With that being said, we'll be taking care of Muku-kun's relative's dog, Moka-chan, for a few days here.
Moka: Woof woof!
Juza: Hey, you're not supposed to eat that.
Banri: Don't drop your snacks, Hyodo.
Juza: It wasn't me.
Omi: We have to make sure there's no dangerous things on the floor.
Tenma: This is kinda out of nowhere, though, if I must say.
Muku: So you see, my relative has to go back to their hometown due to an urgent matter…
Neither my family nor Juchan's are always at home, so I figured it'd be better to keep her here.
Kumon: Moka tends to whine when there's no one around.
Misumi: I see, so she's the type who gets lonely easily~.
Izumi: It's not like this is our first time taking care of a dog, so we should be fine, I guess.
Kazunari: I don't have any complaints, of course! Moka-cchi is cute, after all!
Yuki: She's so fluffy.
Moka: Woof woof!
Kamekichi: Tch, you're not going to take over my territory, you heard me?!
Moka: !!
Muku: Oh, Moka!
Moka: Woof woof!
Kamekichi: Don't come closer! You want a piece of me?!
Misumi: Looks like Moka wants to get close to Kamekichi~.
Muku: Moka, wait!
Omi: Whoa. She's fast.
Tenma: I can't catch her!
Misumi: Stop right there, stop right there~.
Moka: Arf arf arf!
Yuki: Look, she's getting happier the more you chase her around. Isn't it better not to do that?
Kamekichi: Go over there, dammit!
Juza: She went there!
Kumon: Leave it to me!
Kazunari: Caught you!
Moka: Woof!
Tenma: How could she be that mischievous?
Muku: As you can see, she's quite the lively kid. I'm afraid she will cause trouble to you all…
Itaru: Since senpai isn't on a business trip right now, I guess the timing's kinda perfect.
Citron: I love dogs!
Juza: Thank you.

Moka: Woof woof!
Muku: Hold on, hold on.
Kumon: Hey, don't pull it!
Izumi: Morning.
Kumon: Morning!
Izumi: Taking her for a walk?
Kumon: Yep!
Moka: Arf arf!
Izumi: She's so energetic today.
Muku: Do you want to join us?
Izumi: Sure. I plan to go shopping after this, anyway.
Kumon: We'll help carry your luggage, then!
Izumi: Thanks.

Moka: Woof woof!
Izumi: Moka-chan loves going out, huh.
Muku: But she tends to run away somewhere once we release her leash, so going back home is never an easy task.
Moka: !!
Muku: Moka?
Moka: Woof woof!
Muku: H-Hey, wait!
Izumi: It's hard to believe she can drag Muku-kun around with that small body.
Kumon: Did she find something?
Moka: Woof!
Kumon: What's that?
Izumi: A bangle?
Muku: You can't just pick up something you find on the road.
Izumi: I guess she loves shiny things. It has a lot of rhinestones, after all.
Kumon: It looks like a treasure.
Moka: Woof!
Muku: Hey, wait. What is it now?
Moka: Arf arf!
Muku: The leash is about to tear off…!
Kumon: Whaat?!
Izumi: Moka-chan is fast. We won't be able to chase her if that happens…!
Muku: Moka, don't pull so hard!
Tumblr media
Kumon: Aaah~ I'm beat.
Misumi: I'm starving~!
Kazunari: What's for dinner today?
Moka: Arf!
Muku: Whoa.
Kazunari: I guess she likes you, Mukkun. She sure can tell which one is kind, huh.
Muku: I don't think that's the case… Maybe it's because I took her for a walk earlier.
Kumon: But she never came to me~.
Moka: Woof woof!
Muku: Hm? What? The table?
Misumi: Looks like she wants the meal~.
Izumi: But Omi-kun just gave her some snacks.
Moka: Arf arf!
Tenma: Don't think you can get whatever you want by doing that. Life isn't that easy.
Yuki: Did you really just… seriously scold a dog?
Moka: Yip…
Tenma: ...I guess one is fine, then.
Kazunari: Tenten, you're the one spoiling her the most!
Moka: Arf!
Yuki: Look how happy she is now. Such a rapid mood changes.
Kumon: I guess even dogs have personalities!
Kazunari: She's a spoiled kid~.
Misumi: Let's have our meals, woof!
Kumon: I'm hungry, arf!
Kazunari: Woof, woof! I'm starving~!
Tenma: Why are you guys turning into dogs?!
Kazunari: At the end of the day, this is the best way to understand a dog's feeling! Woof!
Yuki: I'm getting a war flashback after seeing this.
*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀
Moka: Woof woof!
Muku: Alright, alright. I'll go get ready now.
Izumi: Going for a walk?
Muku: Yes.
Izumi: Before we know it, you end up being in charge of taking her for a walk. Are you okay with that, though?
Muku: It's fine. I'm supposed to take care of her in the first place, anyway.
Moka: Arf arf!
Muku: Oh, right. Sorry. Let's go.
Izumi: Hey, now. The leash will get entangled if you keep running around like that.
Muku: Okay, all done.
Moka: Woof woof!
Muku: No need to pull me like that. I'll…
*tearing sounds*
Muku: ?!
Izumi: Oh no, the leash is…!
Muku: It's torn!
Moka: ???
*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀
Moka: …
Juza: Here, your snacks.
Muku: I'll buy a new leash tomorrow. Let's save our walk after that, 'kay?
Moka: …
Yuki: She seems down.
Tenma: She turns into a totally different person.
Kazunari: You mean, different dog?
Misumi: I heard the leash is torn~?
Kumon: My uncle told me he's been thinking of changing that leash because it's old. Moka had that ever since she was a resident dog.
But it looks like Moka likes that leash so much she doesn't want to go on a walk with other leashes.
Izumi: I see…
Muku: It's all my fault… If only I didn't let her pull me that hard it wouldn't get torn off…
Izumi: It's not like it's your fault, Muku-kun. That leash is already old. Even the owner would break it sooner or later.
Kumon: I don't think we can change it if she looks this dejected.
Muku: I'm planning to find the same leash tomorrow. Will she like it, though…
Tenma: I figured she has some sort of attachment towards its scent too, not just its appearance
Kazunari: Hmmm, that's tough, huh… I hope we can find something that she'll like.
Muku: Oh. Now that I think about it…
Can I ask you something, Yuki-kun?
Yuki: What is it?
Tumblr media
Yuki: I'm done with this part.
Muku: Me too… and done!
Izumi: ?
What are you guys doing?
Muku: We made this.
Izumi: Whoa. Is that Moka-chan's leash? It's so sparkly and cute!
Yuki: We took a part of her old leash and remade it.
We only used that part as a decoration since it wasn't strong enough, but the smell is still there. Great, right?
Muku: Moka likes sparkly things, right? I kind of remember it when I recalled our previous outing.
Izumi: Oh, you're right. In that case, there's a chance Moka will like this.

Moka: …
Muku: ...Moka?
Moka: !!
Woof woof!
Muku: I got you a new leash. Do you like it?
Moka: Woof woof! Woof woof!
Izumi: Looks like she likes it.
Muku: I'm glad…!
Moka: Arf!
Muku: It's already dark outside, so let's go on a walk tomorrow, 'kay?
Izumi: It seems like she's more than ready to go out, though.
Yuki: I guess it's all settled now.
*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀
Moka: Woof woof woof!
Misumi: Wait there~!
Kumon: Huff… Huff… So fast!
Muku: It's amazing how she doesn't get tired and keeps running fast.
Yuki: Triangle Alien is the only one who can chase her around.
Izumi: But more than anything, it's a good thing she's back to her energetic self.
Tenma: Too energetic, I'd say.
Kazunari: Moka-cchi~! I'll throw this~!
Moka: Woof!
Kumon: Nice catch!
Kazunari: Good girl~.
Moka: Arf!
Kazunari: Do you want me to throw it again?
Tenma: I can't believe she still has energy after running that much.
Misumi: Alri~ght. Moka, let's play more~!
Muku: Let's play tag!
Moka: Woof!
Misumi: Let's go~!
Muku: Wait for us~!
Moka: Woof woof!
Kumon: I'm in!
Kazunari: I also won't lose!
Tenma: Hey, you're still running?
Yuki: So you're saying you can't run anymore?
Tenma: I've never said that!
Misumi: Hahaha! Anyone who can catch up to her is the winner!
Izumi: Moka-chan aside, you guys sure have amazing stamina…!
*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀
Moka: Arf arf!
Muku: We'll send Moka back.
Kamekichi: Hmph! Just go home now!
Moka: Woof woof!
Kamekichi: Whoa?! That's dangerous, you know!
Kumon: Hey, if you don't get in the cage…
Tenma: So full of energy.
Kazunari: Come again and play with us next time~. You're always welcome here!
Misumi: Let's play tag again~.
Yuki: It's not like we won't be able to meet her again. Her owner is Muku's relative.
Muku: You have a point.
Moka: Woof!
*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀*⋆*❀❁❀
Kumon: I'm digging in!
Juza: Moka's snack… oh, right. She's not here anymore.
Kazunari: We end up looking for her~.
Izumi: It's getting a little bit lonely.
*phone notification sounds*
Muku: ?
Oh, Moka's photo.
Moka's Owner: "Thanks for the leash. It looks like Moka really likes it."
Misumi: Moka looks happy in the pic.
Tenma: It's surprising to know that a dog can be so expressive.
Yuki: It made all the effort worthwhile.
Izumi: Isn't that great, Muku-kun?
Muku: Yes!

y1 17-year-olds hcs!
"Put Settsu and Hyodo on shopping duty," Sakyo said one day, and Izumi paused. Her marker hovered over the whiteboard over the clean spot next to Kazunari's creative marker work of the words "Grocery Duty." She glanced between Sakyo and the whiteboard. She had already planned for Tsuzuru and Muku for shopping duty this month.
"...Excuse me?"
"It's good practice for Stranger since the two are on the same team," Sakyo replied, not looking up from the receipts he was recording. Other receipts laid across the table, and Izumi spotted the receipt that made her cringe outwardly.
"Is... this about the wall in the second training room that Banri and Juza broke a few days ago?"
"Yes." Sakyo scoffed, writing down on the ledger with more force than necessary. He scowled. "Tell those brats they're on shopping duty for the next two months for the damn wall. If they complain about it, tell them that it's from me."
Izumi looked between the fuming Sakyo and the whiteboard. Though things were certainly better now, she was still worried about the collateral damage from their fights. The hole in the second training room's wall was more than enough proof that their relationship needed... a bit more work. Internally praying to the gods, Izumi put her marker on the whiteboard.
"Okay, but I'm putting in Sakuya for.... insurance."
"Sakuma?" Sakyo echoed, looking up from his ledger. "And what do you mean by "insurance?""
"Ah... you see..."
Sakuya is absolutely thrilled to hang out with Banri and Juza after school since he looks up to them for being so cool and looking so grown-up (Clockwork Heartbeat Sakuya 2nd Flair Mini-chat)!
Of course, Banri immediately knows it's about the hole in the wall so he gets a bit irritated at being stuck on grocery duty for two months. Juza, on the other hand, is quite surprised and timider than usual. He never really hung out with Sakuya because they're not in the same troupe nor do they meet each other that often.
Shopping is way calmer than usual and the market vendors and supermarket staff are absolutely grateful for this sunshine boy who is able to easily diffuse the situation (perhaps even unknowingly!).
Even Banri is surprised that he didn't outright argue with Juza and how they even got the lowest prices available! Sakuya got some haggling tips from Citron and Citron tells the aunties at the shopping district about his dear roommate, so that's that!
They got crepes while going home (Banri doesn't know how he agreed to that).
Now, for actual hcs!
Banri (begrudgingly) tutors Juza and Sakuya for school stuff since Sakuya asked him for help nicely. It doesn't help his snide comments towards Juza, but at the end of the little tutoring session, the two actually understand the lesson!
Juza brings the two leaders a script to ask for help, and the three of them somehow spend an entire hour discussing that specific line. They also watch plays and street acts together!
Banri isn't particularly fond of sweets (out of spite), but he doesn't mind getting crepes/other bearable sweets when the three of them happen to go home together.
Even though Hana High was on the other side of town, Sakuya insisted that the three of them should take a picture together during graduation (since their graduations were on the same day!). People from Ouka were mildly surprised at the two Hana High kids taking a picture with the most intimidating guy in school, but they just let it slide out of fear. Omi printed out four pics later, one for each of the new graduates and one for the Mankai lounge! Juza and Sakuya treasure the picture so much, and though Banri won't admit it, he thinks the picture is pretty nice.
There was one time they ran into one of Sakuya's relatives that obviously didn't like him and was an ass about it. Banri and Juza teamed up to scare them away without letting Sakuya notice, and they grabbed Sakuya's favorite snack before going home.
You thought only Sakuya influenced them? Wrong. Aside from getting tips for action scenes and the like, Sakuya also got some of their mischievousness! He once joined Citron in a light prank against Hisoka, and Hisoka didn't even suspect Sakuya at all. Though Sakuya isn't too fond of casually making fun of others, Banri encouraging him (Juza just rolled his eyes) to be a bit more tricky was pretty effective and it always catches the unsuspecting victim off guard.
I also like to think that Sakuya's hairstyles in Clockwork and KniRoun were influenced by Banri and Juza respectively!
Though it might seem that their dynamic from the outside is like two delinquents and an innocent kid, Banri and Juza actually respect Sakuya! I think Sakuya might have mentioned his old family situation while the three of them were out, so the two understand his determination and cheerfulness. Sakuya also looks up to them!
Aside from the drinking party with the adults once they turned 20, the three of them also went out on their own to drink!

I WROTE TOO MUCH FOR THIS TO POST AS A COMMENT BUT I WILL NOT BE SILENCED BY WORD LIMITS, SO I HAD TO SEND AN ASK
I KNEW IT!!! I CALLED IT!! teared up by the time i got to citron's and it devolved from there. how is it that i can absolutely see all of these happening, you're genuinely SO SPOT ON. i can 100% see tsuzuru doing the Dad LeanTM on the counter in his kitchen while chit chatting with his toddler. tenma gagging on baby food YES. kazu crying in a full suit while holding his newborn WHILE STILL MAKING JOKES. Kumon having tickle fights with his kid im gonna sob!!! And you KNOW kumon and juza’s kids have playdates all the time and each kid loves their uncles bc they think they’re so funny and weird compared to their own dad. Omi,.,..,catch me lying on the ground for a full minute to recover from just the idea of him having a kid. GUY PLEASE I-[passes out bc i have developed rabies]. homare sitting crisscross applesauce on the floor reading a poem to his literal infant child has me melting. the baby is wearing a cravat with his onesie. Azuma fostering kids!!!!! dear god i cant anymore
my heart is warm and my soul is fed!!! thank you a million times over for this emi
OMG OMG OMG THIS GAVE ME LIFE BESTIE
Yes yes yes!! I bet at least one of Tsuzuru's kids will probably want to learn how to become a writer and Tsuzuru -while please don't misunderstand he is elated- will be like uuuuh let's choose one that's not as stressing?? ALSO YES YES KAZU WOULD TOTALLY BE A DADDY'S GIRL I bet they have drawing dates in their house and this girl is so artistic!!
Also i take your hyodo's playdates (which which is asdfghj adorable?? imagine kumon's kid being like "Imma bake uncle Ju a cake!!" while juza's is like "I think uncle Kumon and /daughter name/ arrived dad!! I can hear them already!!") and add the idea of TROUPES PLAYDATES IMAGINE THE CHAOS???
Like spring troupe has Citron's daughter and Tsuzuru's oldest being the most energetic and begging Chikage's son to teach them karate because it looks SO cool?? poor boy looks at the rest for help but except for Sakuya's son (because of course he would help others he takes after his daddy) the others think is a lost cause and go to the sofas to play with the videogames itaru's son brought and i'm getting off track here but aaaaaah
OH Omimi and Guy are just so so in love with their sons?? the softness in their eyes i cry?? like asdfghjk and I bet they are also incredibly attached to their daddies and probably have to hold back their tears when they are left at school!! (unlike Banri's or Tasuku's who probably dash out the door as soon as they can)
Azuma's was pure chance!! because I didn't know what to give them and then talking to Viv at one point the word adoption came up and then they said hold on what about foster AND adoption??? and then our brain went boom.
I COULD TALK ABOUT THIS ALL DAY

A3! Translation: Juza Hyodo [N] “Fallen Blood”— Role Study 【Blood】
Tumblr media
Omi: That’s Tsuzuru for you. The script this time around is really interesting, I’m excited to act this all out.
Azami: A dark hero huh…
It has a Western drama vibe to it.
Sakyo: When you put it that way, then I guess a portion of it is a little similar to the UNDEAD performance.
Izumi: I think so too!
Taichi: Then, why don’t all of us watch a Western drama to get the feel of it?!
Juza: Western drama, huh… Well, it will be easier to picture what the world’s like with an image in mind.
Banri: That kind of thing is detailed, even for Sakyo-san.
Omi: If you have any recommendations, please let me know.
Sakyo: …I guess it can’t be helped.
Izumi: (Sakyo-san doesn’t seem that bothered, though.)
Tumblr media
Juza: ....。
Muku: Ju-chan, is that a foreign drama?
Juza: Yeah. I’m studying for the next play.
Taichi: It’s convenient to watch on your phone nowadays~! There are a lot of different streaming sites you could watch it from!
Tenma: Now that you mention it, Autumn Troupe’s next play has a dark hero theme right?
Muku: And this time it’s Ju-chan who’s gonna be the lead… I’m really looking forward to it!
Taichi: There’s no doubt it’s gonna be a really rough and cool performance!
Tenma: Best of luck in the play, Juza-san.
Juza: ...Yeah.
Tumblr media
Smartphone: “Leave it to me!”
Juza: ....。
Azuma: Fufu, you’re watching that drama quite enthusiastically aren’t you, Juza. You know, it makes me miss those midnight performances.
Izumi: Everyone in the Winter Troupe was also watching a Western drama at that time, huh.
Banri: ...I’m hearing some familiar lines. Is Hyodo watching this too?
Izumi: You’ve seen this drama, Banri-kun?
Banri: Kind of. Well, I’m already two episodes ahead of Hyodo.
Juza: Huh? I’ll be ahead of you right away.
Banri: Hoho, I’d like to see you try. I’ll catch up to you in no time either way.
Izumi: Don’t tell me they’re planning to compete over this….
Azuma: Fufu, those two are really lively, don’t you think so?
Tumblr media
Juza: ....
Banri: ....
Izumi: Huh… is there something wrong, you two? You don’t look so good...
Kazunari: It looked like they’re trying to see who could finish all the seasons in the Western drama first!
Misumi: They stayed up all night long, so they didn’t get enough sleep~.
Izumi: Eh?! They actually went with it?!
Taichi: Huh! Banchan, Juza-san, what’s wrong?
Kazunari: Truth is, it’s because of this~!
Taichi: Oh, I’ve also seen this drama! Cindy’s brother was killed—
Juza: ーー。
Banri: Oi… Taichi. Isn’t that a huge spoiler?
Juza: ...I’ve only seen Season 1 so far.
Taichi: Ah! Right, I made a mistake and accidentally started at Season 3!
Misumi: Really~!?
Kazunari: Taicchan, you’re too far—!
Banri: ..I’ve lost the motivation. Let’s just stop this...
Juza: ….Yeah.
Izumi: (It's rare seeing those two be on the same page...)

“don't worry, i'm used to it by now.” for juban >:3
HI CHEL I FORGOT I HAD PROMPTS-
Anyway, here's some soff Juban with a touch of angst >:D (slight mentions of mild injury below the cut!)
The door to room 104 slammed shut hard enough to rattle the doorframe. If Sakyo were home there’d be a warning knock on the door soon enough, but the only sounds Banri heard were Juza’s heavy footsteps, and the sound of his schoolbag hitting the floor. He sounded pissed.
“Oi, Hyodo. What the fuck bit you in the- Oh.”
One glance over the railing of his loft bed answered his question.
Juza looked like shit. Split lip, cut cheek, and a nasty bruise that was already beginning to bloom on the left side of his jaw. That wasn’t even counting the cuts on his hands that he tried to hide in his pockets.
Banri leapt over the side of his bed (sticking the landing perfectly, of course), and yanked Juza’s hands up.
“You’ll stain your uniform pants, idiot. What happened?”
Juza shot him a glare and grabbed a tissue to staunch his wet lip. “S’ nothin. Leave me alone.”
Banri would in fact not leave him alone until he got answers. He followed Juza down the hall to the bathrooms, watched him take a seat by the sink, grab a washcloth, and wince when the cold water touched the cuts on his knuckles. Banri sat down beside him, and snatched the wet washcloth out of Juza’s still-shaking hands.
“Here, lemme. I’ll be able to get it better.”
Shockingly, Juza didn’t argue. He let his hands fall into his lap, and closed his eyes. Great, there was a cut near his eyebrow, too. Who the fuck did he let do all this?
A few minutes of tense silence passed before Banri decided to dig for answers.
“Alright, Hyodo. Who the hell did this to you?”
If he sounded possessive, maybe he was. A little bit. No one was allowed to put the hurt on Hyodo except for him, damn it.
Juza sighed, and opened his eyes. “Four of em’. Came after me lookin’ for a fight cause I messed their buddy up the other week. Took care of em’ though.”
“You better have, lookin’ this bad. Don’t let Izumi catch you like this. She’d flip.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t. M’ used to it by now.”
That made Banri’s chest hurt a little. He knew Hyodo didn’t like fighting. He knew assholes picked fights with him because of his reputation. That didn’t...that didn’t mean he deserved it.
“Yeah, well, you shouldn’t be. It’s fucked up, how people still come after ya.”
Juza was shocked into silence. Banri was...sticking up for him? The feeling in his stomach made him worry he was about to be sick, and he didn’t even get hit there. Weird.
“Thanks, Settsu.”
Banri huffed. “Course. Gotta look out for my troupe members. So, I’ll meet ya after school tomorrow and we can walk home. No one’ll mess with ya if it’s both of us.”
Juza frowned, and immediately relaxed it when it stung one of the cuts on his face.
“Don’t need your protection or whatever. I can handle myself.”
Banri couldn’t say it wasn’t just for Juza’s sake. It was for his too, so he knew shit like this wouldn't keep happening. It was for the whole troupe’s sake, really. They couldn’t do street acts and shit if Hyodo’s face was all busted up from punkasses trying to take him on.
He scrubbed at the cut on Juza’s cheek a little rougher than necessary. “I’m showin’ up whether you like it or not. What, gonna run from me?”
Juza wanted to ask several questions. Why was Banri taking the time to clean up his face? Why all of a sudden was he so worried about punks coming after him? It didn’t make sense, but he knew arguing wasn’t going to get him anywhere.
“No. You wouldn’t be able to keep up, anyway.” He managed to crack a small smile, and Banri’s soon matched.
“You asshole! We both know I was the one dragging your ass down the street when we were cuffed together.”
“Yeah, yeah. Keep tellin’ yourself that, Settsu.”
“Shut up so I can fix your fuckin’ ugly face.”
The rest of the cleanup went quietly, but at least now they were both smiling.

Fuyugumi
Tsukioka Tsumugi: -1/10 Nah, he’s a softie I’m not willing to hurt. I’ll even help him water his gardens if he wants me to
Takato Tasuku: 9/10 mans probably smart enough to not fight with me (not that I’m strong he’s just smart), would most likely sigh at me in exasperation
Arisugawa Homare: 10/10 come at me poem boy, I’ll show you bad poem if you want it
Mikage Hisoka: 4/10 dude’s probably asleep most of the time, I’ll just tire myself if I wait for him to wake up and I’m not willing to put my savings for his marshmallows and when he wakes up he can most likely beat me up on the spot :’)
Yukishiro Azuma: 8/10 He’s old and would let me win because he doesn’t like to get anything on him but my man can make me fall on my knees if he asks me to
Guy: 5/10 He can say no to me cause he looks sensible but if he says yes then I’m pretty much gone :)
Bonus:
Tachibana Izumi: -2/10 no way I would fight a queen, if she wants me to eat curry for the whole week I’ll gladly do it for your highness besides she’s got 24 guys ready to jump me if I hurt her
Matsukawa Isuke: 11/10 yeah I’m sure he could beat him, come and get me Matsukawa, I’ll take away your glasses and see if you can even see me properly

Hey, I really like your works! I'd love to have a drabble or a scenario with Juza, please. With a topic of confession, please. Would be nice if a bike ride would be included. Should I be more specific or that would be enough? Thank you in advance!
Thank you for liking my works, and more importantly, for your immense patience! I'm really really sorry that I only finished the story now, anon 😥 I had an immense writer's block + I dealt with a lot of problems. So if you saw me reblogging posts, it was one of my ways to cope with them.
Anyway, I assumed that the bike you're referring to is Juza's motorbike. You may correct me by all means.
I hope you enjoy reading this! ❤
Bathed in Purple and Orange | Juza Hyodo
Tumblr media
Sitting on a bench near the convenience store, you swung your feet with a smile on your face. There were countless places that you and your friend can potentially go. They were usually food shops, but each of them has a different thing to offer. Nevertheless, those places always complimented his and your taste buds (literally and figuratively). You grinned. What adventure awaited both of you today?
Your ears perked up when you heard a familiar voice calling out to you. You looked at your side and saw your friend.
Your eyes widened at the view before you. Juza riding a motorbike amplified his manly and strong aura.
You jogged towards him, inspecting his new vehicle. While doing so, you sneaked in a few glances on Juza’s form. "You got a motorbike now. Congrats!"
"Thanks," Juza said through his helmet. "But sorry for bein' late."
You shook your head. "It's fine. Now that you have a motorbike, we can visit more places!"
You quickly opened your map app on your phone, searching for places that you two have yet to explore. Suddenly, Juza called your name.
You looked up, tilting your head. "What is it?"
Juza paused for a while before saying, "I wanna take you somewhere."
You blinked. "Eh?”
He looked down on the bricked floor. "'Is fine if you don't wanna."
You immediately shook your head. You would always take the opportunity to go with Juza. But more importantly, you felt that this place was something special to your friend; he rarely initiates to go somewhere without you knowing. Not that you mind, but it filled you with curiosity.
"I would love to go with you, Juza."
"Wear this." He offered you the spare helmet that sat on the passenger's seat.
"Thanks." You accepted the helmet. You put it on your head. With deft hands, you quickly locked the straps of your helmet under your chin.
"You can sit here." Juza patted the spot closely behind him.
You nodded, sitting at the spot. Then you blushed as you realized - you were one centimeter away from Juza's back. Your eyes traced the creases on his shirt. They convinced you (again) that a muscled body was waiting underneath the cloth. You had the urge to wrap your arms around him and lay your head on his muscular back. A warm feeling bloomed inside you. Then you furiously shook your head, gripping the seat until your knuckles turned white.
‘Control yourself, (First Name). Control.’
Juza looked at you over his shoulder. "You ready?"
"Y-yeah!” You shot him a sheepish smile.
Juza intently stared at you, making you clear your throat. He muttered an apology before saying, "Grip on me."
Your eyes widened. "What?”
Realizing what he said, Juza quickly whipped his head to the front to cover his blush. "You can, uh, use me as support. 's safer."
“Oh… Thanks, Juza,” you said as you shifted closer to him. Then you gently wrapped your arms around his torso. You tried to hold back from squealing as you felt his abs contracting.
"We'll go now." Juza stepped on the pedal, dashing off towards the road.
You tightened your grip on the man, burying your head on his back. With this speed, you could fall off at every moment.
Juza almost stepped on the breaks when he felt your arms tightening. He might have stumbled off the bike as he felt your breath on your back. His heart was thumping on his chest. One little movement of yours, he might explode. Juza deeply breathed before exhaling. He needed to calm down, or else both of you may be caught up in an accident.
"You okay, (First Name)?" Juza hoped that you did not notice the tremble in his voice.
You nodded. "I just can't open my eyes due to the speed!"
"Sorry ‘bout that." He slowly decreased the speed of his motorbike.
You slowly opened your eyes, letting out a gasp as you saw the scenery before you. The city looked glorious as the sun enveloped the buildings across with orange. The trees that danced with the wind looked more mesmerizing as the warm color highlighted their features. Overall, the scenery felt solemn, peaceful even. You unconsciously shifted closer to Juza, turning your head sideways to appreciate the beauty the sun gave you through out the ride.
Time seemed to flow fast; Juza already slowed down until the engine came to a stop.
"We're here," Juza said as he parked his motorbike on the side.
You unbuckled your helmet and landed down on the grass, resulting in a crunchy sound. You let out a breath as you saw the river. It flowed endlessly and calmly, with its waters reflecting the hues of the sunset. But what made the scene serene was the absence of vehicles that relentlessly honked. The bridge was far away from you two, after all.
You slowly walked until you reached the edge of the grass-filled land. Then you plopped yourself on the grass with your feet dangling.
"This is nice! It's a peaceful spot," you said as Juza sat beside you.
"Yeah." Then he faced forward, staring at the river. "...I always played catch with my little bro here.”
"He likes baseball, then?" He nodded at that.
You aimlessly swung your feet. "Now that we’re talking about him, what's your baby bro like?"
"He's very kind and caring. He also gets along with people. Kumon is... a ray of sunshine." A soft smile bloomed on his lips. His eyes became so gentle and filled with love, the piercing gaze he always has dissipated. "No... he may be the sun itself."
Your eyes softened. “You love him very much.”
"Yeah. Unlike me, everyone loves him. But for some reason, Kumon likes me a lot," Juza mumbled the last statement.
Your brows scrunched up. "You're such an admirable person, Juza. You always wanted to protect the people you love. It may be in a rough way, but your baby bro saw through that. That's why I understand why he likes you so much."
"And..." you breathed in. You wanted to point out every reason why you appreciated him - from his scarred hands to his love for sweets. You wanted to tell him that you will always be beside him, supporting him.
You wanted to say how precious he was for you even though he thought otherwise.
Your affection for this man beside you quickly filled your heart. You touched his arm, gently caressing its muscles with your thumb. Juza turned to you, a confused expression on his face. Before you could stop your lips, the words fluttered out of your mouth, "That's why I like you ever since - as a friend and as a man."
You felt Juza stiffen. Your heart rapidly pounded as you waited for his answer. Seconds of silence only passed, but it felt like your time sped up. It felt like Juza would not reply to you soon as he did not move an inch. You let go of his arm. Somehow, your eyes already knew the answer. You rapidly blinked for the tears not to slip, but the regret bubbling inside you let them escape. If you had controlled your emotions, this would not happen. You had created a horrible memory that ruined the sacredness of this place.
You sniffed. “Sorry.“
“No.” Juza scratched his head. “I just… didn't know how to react. ‘Is all.”
You wiped your eyes with your sleeve. “…I see.”
“But… I like you too,” he said in a voice barely above a whisper.
You blinked. Even though you did not hear it clearly, the tinge of pink appearing on his tan cheeks told you his answer. “You… like me too?”
He nodded with his eyes staring at anything other than you. But you did not mind. The relief made you exhale as if you trapped an excessive amount of air in your lungs.
Then silence surrounded both of you. It was not an awkward one; it was a silence that blended with the comfort of the scenery and the relief of knowing that the man you hold so much affection for liked you.
You locked your pinky finger with his pinky, not noticing how the pink on his cheeks darkened. As if the sun gave its blessing, it slowly set, bathing the both of you in gradients of purple and orange.

The Future | A3! | "Once More, With Feeling!" Fanzine
Tumblr media
"Once More, With Feeling!" is an A3! fanzine that focuses on events that occur in Act 1 of the main story of the game and which revolves around the theme of "growth".
The zine has over 40 contributors and is packed to the brim with amazing art and stories, so if you want to check it out, the free version of the zine can still be downloaded here!
This was technically published months ago for the "Once More, With Feeling!" fanzine, but I didn't have a chance to upload it to Tumblr until now! Oops!
I wanted to make sure I posted this today in commemoration of the "A Two-Faced Teacher" event coming out on the EN server, since this event was one of the inspirations for my fic! This story does take place pre-Act 2/in the Act 1 continuum, though there are nods to the "A Two-Faced Teacher" event, which you'll catch if you had read the event story.

“Hey, Settsu—so have you thought more about your career plan?”
Banri’s eyebrow twitched as Azumi—Hanasaki High’s guidance counsellor—spoke to him through the door. He couldn’t believe this was seriously happening right now.
“You know, with your grades, it would be a shame if you didn’t go to university. The sky’s the limit for you. It’s always harder to get back into the swing of things if you take a year off,” Azumi rambled.
Banri groaned and covered his face with his hands in exasperation. This situation could not be more awkward. At his wit’s end, the brown-haired boy lifted a leg and kicked the stall door in front of him.
“Look, Teach—I’m tryin’ to take a shit!! Can we talk ‘bout this later?!”
“Language, Settsu,” Azumi chided, not missing a beat. “Anyway, you ran away the last time I tried talking to you, so what else was I supposed to do?”
“I dunno—not stalk me?! Ugh, whatever! I’ll hand it in—just freakin’ get out already!!”
“All right, all right. You’d better keep your word, though, Settsu!”
Tumblr media
Banri flushed the toilet and exited the stall. Maybe that memory came back to him just now because it was the same stall he had used that time. Or maybe it was because of the conversation that he’d had with Yuki at the Night Walk the other day—about Yuki’s goals for the future and Banri’s lack thereof.
The future, huh?
For as long as Banri could remember, he’d never cared about the future. What was the point of imagining what was to come when he could barely bother with the present—the boring, super ultra easy present? Even when he had set goals for himself, he always accomplished them effortlessly, no matter how high the bar. Get an A+ on that exam? He aced it with a perfect score. Win that award? The gap between him and the runner-up was miles apart. Master that new skill he’d never tried before in his life? He did it with his eyes closed.
Each success left him hollow. Where was the sense of satisfaction when everything always went according to plan? So, he stopped planning. Stopped expecting. Instead, he just went with the flow and chased after every cheap thrill he could find, because there was no future he could even envision striving for.
But, things were different now—the present was anything but boring. Whether it was taking on a crazy gaming challenge with Itaru, or trying a new curry dish for dinner (how could so many types of curry even exist, anyway?), or pushing his body to the limit during Autumn Troupe practice, every day with the Mankai Company was new and exciting.
Then, there was the stage. Every time he stepped foot under the spotlight, his heart pounded. There was no better adrenaline rush than performing in front of a live audience. The spectators might not laugh at a joke, and they’d have to throw in an adlib; someone could flub a line, and they’d have to find a way to save the scene; even a slightly different intonation or body movement could push the play in a totally new direction. Banri revelled in that feeling of having all the tools in his hands while knowing that a wrench could be thrown in at any moment—sometimes literally.
Before he knew it, he had fallen in love with theatre and being a part of Mankai Company. He had every intention to keep acting and he knew that the logical next step was to study performing arts, especially since he could bring his newfound skills back to benefit the troupe. Yet, despite his feelings, he still found himself hesitating. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but he just couldn’t bring himself to commit.
Wiping his hands dry on his handkerchief, Banri made his way over to his shoe locker, grabbing his outdoor shoes and school bag before leisurely making his way home. Still mulling over his thoughts, he eventually turned onto Veludo Way and immediately spotted two familiar figures bowing to a small audience.
“Thank you! Thank you very much!” Taichi exclaimed, waving his hands enthusiastically.
“Come check out Mankai Company—we’ll have a new show on soon,” Juza added as he straightened from his bow.
“What are you two doing?” Banri asked as he walked up to them through the dispersing crowd.
“Banny!” Taichi greeted as he looked up from counting the yen in his pencil case turned tip box. “We were trying to pick up some tips because we were short a few hundred yen!”
“A few hundred yen for what?” the taller boy asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Gettin’ some egg tarts,” Juza responded, taking the yen from Taichi and jabbing his thumb over his shoulder at a small storefront with the flaky treats on display.
“Sweets? Figures.”
“They’re for Tsumugi!” Taichi piped up. “He’s been helping Juza study for his entrance exam even though he registered last minute! So the second Juza saw those egg tarts, he wanted to pick some up as a thank you gift!”
“Entrance exam?” Banri asked incredulously. He couldn’t possibly mean the university entrance exam?
“I’m applyin’ for university theatre programs,” Juza responded, meeting Banri’s gaze defiantly.
“Seriously? You’re studying to get into university? Don’t make me laugh! You sure you even have the brains for that?”
“Shut up, Settsu,” Juza growled, shooting him a glare. “I’m serious ‘bout acting. It’s what I wanna do. You might be better at acting than me right now, but I’m gonna study hard and learn lots. Then, I’m gonna leave you in my dust.” Without another word, Juza turned around and trotted over to the pastry shop.
Banri was thunderstruck. Even Juza, of all people, had set their eyes on the future. He couldn’t believe it. Wasn’t he better than Juza in every way? If a sugar-addicted gorilla could do it—why couldn’t he ? What was stopping him from confidently declaring his goals for the future? Why did he tell Yuki he was still thinking about it?
Was it because he was… scared? After all, it had been so long since he’d allowed himself to look forward, to plan for the future—so was he scared of being disappointed again? Afraid of losing that sense of excitement for something he finally felt passionate about? The realization shook him.
Tumblr media
“We’re home!” the three boys hollered as they stepped through the dorm entrance.
“Welcome home!” Sakuya greeted, popping out of the lounge upon hearing the door open. The other boy must have just gotten home as well, as he still wore his school uniform. Seeing Sakuya’s blazer—the same as his—Banri suddenly realized that the other boy was graduating this year as well. The Spring Troupe leader was so small and innocent that Banri sometimes forgot that they were in the same grade.
“Hey, Sakuya—can I ask you somethin’?” Banri said as Juza and Taichi shuffled past them to head to their rooms.
“Sure, what is it?” Sakuya asked, cocking his head to one side.
“What are you plannin’ to do after graduation?”
“Ummm...” Sakuya’s eyes flickered away from Banri’s for a moment as he rubbed the back of his neck. “I’ll be joining the workforce.”
“Seriously? I woulda thought you’d go to university to study performing arts or somethin’.”
“Well, if I’m being honest, I thought about going to university for a theatre program—like the one that Tsumugi and Tasuku went to—but tuition would be kind of tough right now,” Sakuya replied with a sheepish smile. “My relatives have already paid to put me through a top-tier private high school, so I can’t ask them to help me out any more than they already have.”
“Ah. Right… My bad.” Banri wanted to kick himself—how could he forget that Sakuya was an orphan. He hadn’t even thought about tuition, since he knew his parents would cover it without any questions.
“Oh no, don’t feel sorry! I mean—it’s not like it’s a bad thing!” Sakuya continued. “Izumi, Tsumugi, and Tasuku already told me that they’d help me find work with other troupes on Veludo Way. So, I’ll be getting lots of hands-on experience instead. And I know that Hisoka and Misumi have found interesting part-time jobs that help with their acting as well! So, even if I won’t have formal training, I’m confident that I’ll find other ways to improve my acting!”
“Huh. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that you’ve got it all figured out,” Banri murmured. He was always impressed by the other leader’s can-do attitude.
“Well, I don’t know about that! I just love acting and I never want to stop—so I’m doing what I can with what I’ve got!” Sakuya responded with a bright smile. “But, I’m sure you’ll get into whichever theatre program you want and then you can show me what you learn—we can even trade tips! Oh, actually, which university did you apply for? Veludo Arts? Or maybe Yosei?”
“Huh? How’d you know that I would be applyin’ for a theatre program?” Banri asked, astonished at the other boy’s assumption.
Sakuya’s laugh tinkled out like bells. “Well, it’s so obvious—you love acting too, after all! And you’re definitely smart enough to get into any university you want!”
For the second time that day, Banri was rendered speechless.
“Sakuya! Could you lend me a hand with this?” Omi called from the kitchen.
“Oh! Be right there!” Sakuya shouted back into the lounge. “Sorry—I’ll talk to you later, Banri!”
“Later,” Banri replied dazedly as Sakuya retreated into the other room.
As soon as the other boy disappeared, a frown crossed Banri’s face. It had been a while since he’d felt so lame. Sakuya was so passionate and devoted to theatre, but he couldn’t even pursue his ideal path. Instead, he had to find another way to reach his goal, to fight to continue chasing his dream. Even Juza, who had rocks for brains, was cracking his head open to do something he was terrible at in order to walk forward towards the future.
And here he was—with all the smarts and the privilege to do exactly what they both wanted—with his feet frozen to the ground.
What the hell am I hesitatin’ for, dammit?! Screw this overthinkin’ bullshit! I know what I want—I want to act.
With the resolve to finally rip his feet free and charge forward, Banri pulled his phone out of his pocket and opened his LIME app. Scrolling down until he found Kazunari’s contact, he began typing out a message.
Tumblr media
“Nice coffee they have here, huh?”
Banri couldn’t believe that this old man followed him all the way to the cafe.
“Is that even coffee anymore?” Banri retorted, wrinkling his nose in disgust as he watched Azumi pour in a second container of milk into his drink. It might as well be coffee-flavoured milk at this point.
“My stomach isn’t as strong as it used to be. If I drink coffee straight, it gives me the runs,” Azumi replied with a chuckle.
“Ugh! Nasty! Keep that to yourself, old man!”
“By the way, it’s been a week since you told me you’d hand in your career plan, but I still don’t have it.”
“Look, there just isn’t anythin’ I wanna do,” the boy answered with a sigh.
“Well, even more reason for you to consider higher education, then,” Azumi stated, sipping his abomination of a drink with a contented sigh. “For someone who doesn’t know what they want, I think university will help broaden your horizons.”
“I guess.”
“How about this? For now, I’ll just put down on your career plan that you’re pursuing post-secondary education and sign you up for the standard entrance exam,” Azumi suggested. “In the meantime, think things over. Once you figure out what you really want to do, come find me.”
“Fine. But, I’m warnin’ ya, Teach—don’t get your hopes up.”
Tumblr media
Taking a deep breath, Banri knocked on the door to the faculty office. A moment later, one of the younger teachers opened the door.
“Is Mr. Azumi here?” Banri asked, trying to keep his voice as casual as possible.
“Mr. Azumi—Settsu’s here to see you,” the young teacher called over his shoulder before stepping away from the door.
“Ehhhh?! Settsu is here to see me?!” Azumi yelled exaggeratedly from his desk in the corner.
Banri couldn’t help clicking his tongue. For a second, he considered turning around and leaving, but the piece of paper in his hand burned against his fingers.
“How can I help you, Settsu?” Azumi asked, now standing in front of Banri with an obnoxious grin on his face.
“Here.” Banri held out the piece of paper to him, purposely looking at a spot behind Azumi’s head. He didn’t want to see whatever smug smirk the teacher would make once he saw what was on the page.
“Is this what I think it is?” Azumi gasped in surprise, his eyes quickly skimming the document.
“It’s not too late, right? To change my mind?” Banri replied, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
“Hmm… the registration period might be over... but, I know a guy—I can twist his arm into letting me squeeze in your registration,” Azumi replied. “Wait... you’ve only got your first-choice university down. Do you have a back-up?”
“Tch—who do you think I am?” Banri scoffed, rolling his eyes. There was no way he wouldn't get into his top choice. After all, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.
Tumblr media
This was actually my first time writing Banri, so I'm hoping I was able to capture his character (and attitude!!) properly! Initially, while reading Act 1, I was very annoyed with Banri and wanted to give him a good smack. However, as the story progressed (especially in Act 2) and I watched him grow as a character, I ended up adopting him into my circle of A3! children. I can honestly say that he has one of my favourite stories of personal growth throughout the main storyline, and this fic was inspired by one of my favourite parts of his backstory: that he ended up genuinely pursuing acting despite how he started off at Mankai Company. The little hints that were dropped about how he made this decision really inspired me to come up with my own take on how he got to this decision!
Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed! Feel free to leave a comment if you have any thoughts and reblogs are always appreciated!

There were many perks to being friends with Banri, he was funny and nice when he wanted to be— he’d help you out with homework and never let you down; if there was one thing you could always count on Banri to be it was determined and loyal. But there were downsides to it too like the looks you’d get for hanging out with a guy with such a shitty reputation, the way he’d always get into fights, or seeing him waste his life away due to lack of interest. There were the multiple fights you had to endure, patching him after he got his ass beaten to a pulp the first few times.
But you wouldn’t trade him for the world. You had stuck with him through so many things, so many phases and bruises, beginnings and ends, you knew him like the back of your hand and you knew how hard it was for him to live such an “easy” life. He liked a challenge, something to work hard towards, something worth fighting for— so he could relish in the satisfaction, but that something never came. When everything comes easy you can never really bask in satisfaction; the afterglow after a succeeding.
Maybe at first, you guessed, Banri did enjoy it but he soon grew tired; everything was easy, too easy. How could he enjoy a life with no challenges when what he liked the most was a challenge?
That’s why when he joined the Mankai company you were ecstatic, finally a non-destructive hobby after years of fights and punches. It was why you didn’t mind distancing yourself from him, to let Settsu enjoy himself and get to know theater— you guessed you just didn’t know how far was enough, leading you to grow farther away than either of you expected; than either of you needed.
Looking back, Banri was somewhat grateful; he knew had you stuck around he wouldn’t have been able to concentrate with the growing feelings he had blooming in his chest.
He realized his feelings for you weren’t the same when texting you wasn’t enough, when meeting you at school wasn’t enough; when he realized that he wanted more. He never took into account how often you two would be together, it felt so natural, there was never a second thought or a minute to imagine what would happen if your routine were to change. After school and during breaks, you’d always be together chatting away; to not have you there by his side as often was weird. It wasn’t as if he never saw you but whenever you left he felt a bitter feeling in his mouth, it left him feeling unsatisfied. What was once a friendship that lasted 24 hours a day soon shortened into a relationship that would last as long as school breaks would allow.
He hoped that once he quit the troupe— after making his point known to Juza, he’d be able to go back to his routine with you, perhaps confess or just let it go, he just wanted to ditch acting and see where you two would go. But he never really quit and so the distance between you two became bigger.
You never grew estranged, neither of you would’ve been able to live without the other by this point— 14 years of friendship, of familiarity and comfort, can’t go down the drain like that. To you Banri was the need for a future, for excitement and adventure, and to him, you were home, nostalgic and known. But going from hanging around each other everyday to almost once in a blue moon, it hit hard and it hit roughly.
By the third performance, you and him could barely meet in person— you had joined clubs while he practiced, your classes weren’t the same and your part time job started demanding more attention; so all you could do was text. He hated texting, you could never really express your tone and feelings properly, but your relationship— or what remained of it, now hung on a thin thread of texts. It was weird, heart breaking almost, to see the shell that remained of your friendship.
It was around that time Banri realized he needed to act on his feelings for you, it was when he realized he could lose you.
He didn’t know how to confront you about it— the boy you had been hanging out around, he’d seen you two, heard the rumors of a possible romance, but he never confronted you. Blue eyes could only watch in confusion as the situation unfolded itself; you two were 17, not kids anymore, it’d be weird for him to pop in one day and demand for you to explain yourself to him. Banri wasn’t delusional, he knew you didn’t owe him an explanation.
Izumi noticed the uncertainty and hesitation in him, how something or someone was bothering him. It was soon after that his discomfort was known to the rest of the company and they grew confused and concerned— some more worried than others. It was her who ended up confronting Banri, she had to convince the dyed blond to not threaten the young boy with behavior and discipline.
Even through his short answers and cold stare it didn’t take the brunette long to understand what was bothering him.
“So, you like your best friend?” Izumi’s pink eyes were tinted with understanding and pity as she looked at the young boy.
However, Banri was too prideful to answer, instead opting to roll his eyes in acknowledgment.
“Well, why don’t you say something about it?”
“[Name] doesn’t owe me an explanation,” he muttered, he had thought about it but really— he was also afraid; if you were dating that boy then it meant his feelings were one sided and he could ruin your trust, make you feel like you had a babysitter or a possessive friend, and accidentally reveal the feelings he had only recently begun to acknowledge.
“I guess you’re right, but you owe yourself closure,” Izumi states straight into his eyes, “Just try talking to them about it.”
“Hmph…”
He stared at your contact name for a while before pressing it that night, he spent at least 14 minutes typing and re-typing what he wanted to send, never before had he been so self conscious when talking to you.
As he laid buried within his covers, only the soft light of his phone shining, he realized how important you were to him; he couldn’t fuck up.
‘Hey, our next performance is next week wanna come??????’
Once he had settled for a text and was ready to press send he heard a deep, and extremely annoying, voice coming from beside him.
“Delete some question marks, it makes you look desperate.”
“Fuckin’- were you reading my texts?” Banri barked at the golden eyed boy, what was that creep doing getting into his conversation with you?
“Kinda hard not to when you’ve got your ringer on, this isn’t a coming of age movie turn that shit off, iss’ annoying.” Juza grumbled before shoving his head between his pillows and Banri swore the small wooden panel separating both of their beds was suddenly asking to be used as a murder weapon.
“Fuck off, Hyodo.”
‘Hey, our next performance is next week wanna come over??’
“You are gonna give them their tickets, right?”
“Of course I am, I ain’t some sort of asshole!” Settsu could swear every time Juza opened his mouth he lost 10 years of his lifespan.
“Ya’ sure about that?”
“Say it to my fuckin’ face, eh?”
‘Hey, I got some tickets for our next performance if you wanna come??’
“Is that better, dick head?” Banri shoved his phone at the purple haired boy causing him to swat his hand away.
“Yeah, whatever.”
“Whatever-? You know what, choke on my dick.”
“Come on, I’ve sucked candy bigger than your dick, Settsu, I ain’t chokin’ on a pickle.”
He was surprised that you answered so quickly a short and simple ”Oh my god!!! Yes!!” that had sent his heart into super sonic speed. He guessed that, if Izumi was right and he did like you, that it made sense- and if he had to be honest, really had to be, you could say he didn’t mind the way his heart fluttered around his chest.
‘Come over early and I’ll give them to you’
“And they say chivalry is dead.” Juza grumbled into his pillow, earning a smack from Banri.
A week later and you were standing in front of the Mankai dorm waiting for him, you had to admit that- although sudden, the invite did make you quite happy, even if you both didn’t talk as often you still cared deeply about him.
While you stood outside waiting, however, inside the dorm Banri was getting one final pep talk from Izumi before he asked you out- or tried to at least.
“I get it! Izumi, stop nagging already,” blue eyes rolled as the older woman went over the plan.
“I am not nagging, Settsu! I am simply making sure you don’t screw up!” She shrieked, she was this close to setting you up with Juza out of spite.
“Look, I’m fine,” he assured her, “I’ll just tell ‘em how I feel and if they say yes then good and if they say no then whatever- it’s not like we won’t talk if I’m rejected.” Right?
“Hey, Neo delinquent, you shouldn’t leave your date waiting,” Yuki grumbled as he nodded over to the door, “Poor thing’s been there for half an hour, let it in already.”
“Yuki! Don’t talk about [Name] like they’re a dog!” Izumi scolds the middle schooler.
“Whatever, just worried they’re gonna catch a cold.” He shrugs before leaving the room, if you ended up sick you’d only have those two to blame.
“Okay, now go- go!” Izumi pushed the tall boy before running off to hide behind the wall, just in case.
Banri takes note of his sweaty hands and scolds himself; keep it together. He shakes his head and opens the door to find you waiting for him.
In the second it took you to process the opened door, Banri felt himself fall in love with you. After not seeing each other in person since the start of the new semester, it dawned on him how much he yearned to be with you.
“Banri, I missed you!” You throw your arms around your friend, you were excited— it had been weeks since you’d last seen him and you missed him, even if you two didn’t talk as much there was never a day you didn’t think of him in some way.
“[Name],” he ruffled your hair, his eyes softening as he looked at you, “I missed you too.”
“I’m so excited,” you pulled away from him, looking him straight in the eyes, “I was so worried I wouldn’t get tickets, I really wanted to see you act again!”
“Tch, ain’t you a fan?” He teases you, making way for you to come inside the dorms and you gladly do. It had been months since you last came, but it still looked and felt the same; he felt and looked the same, he looked smarter though, more mature and put together.
“You’re talking as if I wouldn’t come see my best friend.” You smile up at him and he feels his heart clench in his chest at your words.
As he leads you to the living room he wonders if he should actually tell you— unlike most things in his life, you were always there, no matter what he was doing you’d always stuck around him. Ever since you were young, Banri can’t remember a time where you weren’t there and, honestly, he didn’t want to.
His silence catches your attention and you decide to speak up; “So, how have things been?”
“Ah, good, they’ve been good,” he coughs, he felt stupid getting nervous over this- he should just get it out as fast as possible, “and you?”
“Things ‘ve been well, kinda weird without you around.” You admit awkwardly as you sit down on the couch.
He nods, a smile gracing his lips as he thinks about how to lead the conversation where he needs it to be. He remembers Izumi’s words and advice, he deserved closure and, maybe it was selfish of him but, he wanted a relationship with you too. He really, really wanted a relationship with you.
“[Name]?” He speaks out, his voice wavering slightly and if he could he’d beat himself up for it. Hearing the uncertainty behind his words you almost shoot up from your seat in worry.
“Yeah?”
“I- I know it’s sudden and,” he takes a deep breath, “it’s gonna sound weird but I, uh- realized somethin’.”
You nod confused, you were listening to him and you wanted him to continue; that’s the moment he realized he’d need to fold whatever pride he had left and throw it in the air if he wanted to know the truth.
“It’s very weird and if it makes you uncomfortable it’s okay! It’s just, I've heard about you goin’ out with someone and I wanted to know if-?
“Oh! You mean Rin, right? No, don’t worry, he’s dating someone; we’re just friends!” You laugh as you explain.
“Oh, good.” Even with his, albeit limited compared to other members, acting experience he couldn’t quite hide the relief that washed over his face and body at the revelation.
“Why do you wanna know? Worried you’re gonna lose me?” You tease but the words he uttered next made you do a double take his way.
“Yeah, actually- funny you’d say that.” He sighs before looking around the room, “I didn’t invite you just for the tickets, [Name], I-I wanted to tell you something… I like you.”
You feel the blood rushing to your ears and spread through your cheeks, you were sure you were practically heating up the room just from your blushing alone.
“You like me?” You ask him, you were extremely flattered and the thought that a guy like Banri liked you was nice. You liked him, you’ve liked him for a pretty long time but were too afraid to say anything so for him to, after so many years, tell you he liked you was straight out of a shojo manga.
“Yeah, it’s okay if you feel weird, I just wanted to say it, ya’ know?” He avoids your eyes and you quickly piece together the rest. He’d been acting weird, all shy and nervous, his texts were kinda dry, and even when you did meet in the hallway he had been acting off… was it all because he liked you?
“Banri, I- wow, me too,” you stutter, fidgeting with your fingers slightly at his confused face, “I kinda like you too.”
“Ya’ do?” It was his turn to jump from his seat at your words, his heart knocking against his chest as if it were about to explode from the override of emotions he was feeling at your words.
“Yeah, it’s embarrassing,” you laugh, “but I’ve liked you for some time now, I’m surprised you didn’t notice.”
His signature cocky smile is back on his face as soon as you say it and you wish you could take it back so he wouldn’t tease you, but would it really be Banri if he didn’t make fun of you even just a little bit.
“Shoulda’ known, no one can resist me.” He plopped himself next to you and you shove him slightly.
“Yeah, no one can resist you and your bowl cut.”
“You said it looked good!” He glares at you but you know he isn’t angry at all.
“Yeah when we were like 10?” You ruffle his hair, the soft strands gliding through your fingers and Banri is sure that if he had a tail it’d be wagging.
“Ya? Well why d’ya like me if I got a stupid bowl cut?” He grabs your hand and levels himself to look you in the eyes.
“Because you’re smart,” you lean closer and peck his lips, “and cute, even with that shitty hair.”
“You can’t insult me and compliment me like that! You're gonna give me whiplash, geez.” His eyes widen at your actions and he blushes a deep pink, and you do your best to memorize that look knowing it was rare.
“Ew, the NEO delinquent is flirting on our couch,” you both hear a whine from behind you two and you jump startled, “Now we’ve gotta clean it up.”
“We’d appreciate it if you kept the PDA minimal with the kids here, Settsu.” Sakyo glares at the young man, you could almost miss the soft smile as he watched his leader finally look like himself again.
“So, [Name], you two dating or what?” Izumi pokes her head out of her hiding spot, going straight to the point.
“Please, he probably didn’t even give ‘em the tickets.” Juza makes his way through the small crowd and into the kitchen area.
“Yes I did-“
“No you did not.” You correct him, causing the actor to blush even redder at your words.
“Told ya’.”
“Cut it off you guys!” The director scolded everyone in the room, too excited at the newly formed couple to care about much else, “Are you two dating?”
“I think we are.” You look at Banri who looked back at you, his scowling face softening until a smile broke out.
“We are.” He confirms, giving you a kiss on the cheeks with a smile and you feel light on your feet with excitement.
“I should start a match-making agency or something.” Izumi giggles at her comment, proud to finally have helped the young boy.
“With your dating life? Please.” Sakyo laughs at the younger woman.

the really long a3! hogwarts au no one asked but i’m here to deliver | natsugumi
click here for the general headcanon list LOL i’m running on adrenaline what up
NATSUGUMI
Tenma // 4th year // GRYFFINDOR AND HE’S PROUD OF IT // pureblood
yuki jokes he should be in slytherin for his gargantuan amount of pride ( he doesn’t mean it. yuki would rather cut off his own dress robes than be housemates with tenma merlin help him ) bUT also constantly makes fun of the fact he fits so well in the house of lions bc he’s so obnoxious ST O P
tenma is actually really proud of his house bc both his parents were also gryffindors. he comes from a family line of pureblood aurors. he’d want nothing more than to follow in their footsteps but --
he’s absolute shite at DADA practicals. it’s simultaneously his best and worst. he’s got theories down to a pat, the natural athletic reflexes needed to be potentially great at it, but he Freezes any time chikage sensei tells them its time for “experiential learning” and sets them loose in the forbidden forest
GRYFFINDOR CHASER!!! racks up points like it’s nobody’s business and honestly good enough for tasuku to notice.
Yuki // 2nd year // sly!! the!!! rin!!!!!! // halfblood
keeps his involvement with chikage a secret bc there’s a lot of resentment kept within the confines of a boy barely 165 cm.
he hates quidditch with a passion. he just doesn’t get what’s so fun about chasing a golden ball around and potentially falling to your death when you overreach right? that being said he makes sure to attend Every gryffindor game to cheer muku on.
gryffindor vs slytherin? no problem. he’d root for muku in a heartbeat.
“Yukki, you do know it’s our team they’re against right??”
*sends off a mini fireworks charm that spells out “GO GRYFFINDOR KICK THEIR ASS” “what about it?”
itaru would consider him a charms Genius actually and chikage is (secretly) proud whenever itaru brags about it. that being said yuki makes it a point to do barely average on DADA, but his actual weakness is herbology LOL just,, no dirt,, tsumugi sensei pls..,,
Muku // 2nd year // gRYFFINDOR // halfblood
SLAMS MY FIST ON TABLE. Gryffindor’s star seeker!! Tasuku Insisted he try out when he saw how fast but comfortable muku was on a broom!! he almost puked during tryouts but he’s a natural on a broom. really smart player too and eludes a lot of the other house seekers.
was a hatstall but only bc muku thought he couldn’t possibly be a gryff LOL he and the hat had a debate for over five minutes. muku insisted he be placed in hufflepuff w juchan and kyuchan but the hat was just very NO. YOU ARE A GRYFFINDOR AND U WILL LIKE IT!!
muku is actually a really good student overall but he always asks for help in transfigurations bc it’s a little too technical for him. he’s one of the only ones who actually like history of magic LOL also probably really good at divination?? The overactive imagination really helps
Misumi // 7th year // RAVENCLAW // pureblood
bc while he does value loyalty, misumi is also extremely curious w the world!! pls just imagine misumi clinging onto tsuzuru and asking him about So Many Things
Doesn’t talk about his family even though the ikarugas are pretty famous for being rather conservative. madoka is also a ravenclaw and in his 4th year. they’re awkward but they love each other.
tsuzuru is acting captain bc their actual captain is seeker misumi. LOL he’s really good but terrible w responsibilities. sorry tsuzuru, but you can’t complain when he catches the golden snitch and brings the house to victory.
not v good w potions bc he dislikes the rules set by it (and often makes things go boom) but is a surprising natural at transfigurations? some say he’s an unregistered animagus ( this is True ) but no one but kazu knows what he turns into
Kazunari // 7th year // SLYTHERIN // muggle born
he exchanges house scarves w misumi on a regular and actually fits really well w the ravenclaw crowd lmao tsuzuru is even More tired when the two team up.
kazu gets along w everybody? He’s the gryffindors favourite slytherin. he has homies in every house and in every year. he was in the running for head boy actually but turned it down LOL
likes to act a little dumb so people won’t expect much of him but is a dude who’s expected to ace his NEWTs??  does well in potions!! is,, kind of bad with flying tho,, LOL it’s why he doesn’t do quidditch
SO MANY THINGS about slytherin kazu but i feel like i will take up one more post if i do.
Kumon // 3rd year // hufflepuff // halfblood
READY TO THROW HANDS with a certain slytherin seeker. unfortunately, he cannot keep his trash talk strictly in the quidditch field lmao.
Everyone loves kumon they’re so confused how he’s related to juza honestly but they understand him being related to muku.
1/2 of hufflepuff’s hyodo brothers beater duo!! He’s so proud this is legitimately his greatest achievement.
he likes herbology, surprisingly!!! likes to talk about medicinal properties of them and tsumugi thinks he’d be a great healer. he’s unfortunately not a big fan of potions bc it’s so,, nerve wracking,,

A3! Magazine Interview Translation - 2D☆STAR Vol. 11 (½) [Summer Troupe]
Tumblr media
A roundtable discussion unveiling the addition of Summer Troupe’s newest member
Kumon-kun is an Undisputed BroCon!!
*Please read disclaimer on blog
---
——Congratulations on your 4th performance, “First Crush Baseball”. Hyodo Kumon-kun, the newly added member, could you please introduce yourself to our readers who are meeting you for the first time?
Kumon: Hyodo Kumon! Currently a second-year in high school! My blood type is A, and my birthday is July 20! My hobbies are watching baseball and collecting jerseys! Umm, also…
Yuki: A brocon.
Kumon: Ah, right, right! I’m a brocon!
Tenma: Don’t say that so proudly…
Kumon: But “brocon” means “you love your big brother”, doesn’t it? I really, really looove my big bro! So I’m a genuine brocon!
Kazunari: Yep yep, that’s one of Kumopi’s charm points!
Misumi: It’s the same with my triangles~.
Muku: The same… I wonder if it is?
Yuki: Just so you know, the brother that he loves so much is the Autumn Troupe’s Classic Delinquent.
Tenma: Classic delinquent…
Kazunari: Yep, fyi, he’s Autumn Troupe’s Hyodle!
Tenma: Those add-ons aren’t helping! It’s Juza-san.
Kumon: My big bro is super, super, duper~ cool, right! I’m the happiest person in the world to be born as my big bro’s little brother…
Misumi: You’re lucky~. I’ll give Kumon a Triangle-kun, swimsuit ver.~
Muku: Uwahh, it’s a new one! His swim ring and straw hat are so cute!
Kazunari: I designed it!
Yuki: And I’m the one who made it.
Muku: Oh, it’s a collaboration between Kazu-kun and Yuki-kun!
Kumon: I-is it really ok for me to receive such an amazing thing?
Misumi: Yep, take it~.
Kumon: Sumi-san…!
Tenma: Err, that’s not something that you should be so moved by! In the first place, why are you suddenly giving him a Triangle-kun…
Misumi: It’s cause Kumon’s cute~.
Kazunari: Ah, did Tenten want one too?
Tenma: Haa!?
Yuki: The hack hasn’t gotten many Triangle-kuns, right? At any rate, it’s because you’re a hack.
Tenma: Don’t call me a “hack” twice! It’s not like I really wanted one or anything…
Kumon: For me as the newcomer to be so brash… I’m so sorry!
Misumi: Tenma, I’ll give you lots when we get home!
Muku: Fufu. That’s great, right, Tenma-kun?
Tenma: Like I said… Ahh, I don’t care anymore! Do whatever you want!
——Now that their talk has heated up, let’s move on to the next topic. What are your honest impressions now that your 4th performance has finished? Also, how was Kumon-kun’s acting?
Kumon: You’re asking about my acting too!? Asking that is scary… I’m nervous…
Muku: Kyu-chan, are you ok? Your face is getting pale…
Kumon: I think I improved from the time of my initial audition, but there was never a day where I could say all my lines smoothly…
Kazunari: Nobody minds that, ‘kay?
Kumon: I messed up my standing position too, and somehow managed to get everyone to follow through for me…
Misumi: That happens all the time~. We’re a team, so it’s natural to help each other!
Kumon: There was also a time I was too flustered during my quick-change and the button on my shirt came off…
Yuki: Seriously, you're lucky I was waiting in the wings at that time, right?
Kumon: There were countless times where I accidentally talked over Tenma-san’s lines too… I only caused trouble for everyone…
Muku: …
Misumi: *Stare*…
Kazunari: …
Yuki: …
Tenma: W-why are you guys looking at me like that?
Yuki: No reason. We’re just wondering if you’ll say something to this infamously negative guy.
Kazunari: Your speech here is important! Leader Tenten!
Misumi: Go Tenma~!
Muku: I’ll whisper too…! Umm… Tenma-kun! Please be kind to him!
Yuki: Muku, that definitely wasn’t a whisper.
Muku: Haa! I accidentally put power into it…
Kumon: Making everyone be so considerate of me… I… I…
Yuki: Seeee, say something already, you hack. Or else who knows how far these pessimistic cousins will sink together.
Tenma: You guys are just hyping it up as you like! …*Sigh*. It’s true, Kumon’s acting was clumsy and he had a lot of misses.
Kumon: Yeah…
Tenma: But, everyone’s like that in the beginning, and we were able to make it safely to the closing night. You picked up on the adlibs well and you’re the one who carried the baseball scenes for us. Good job. You did well.
Kumon: Tenma-san…
Muku: That’s so great, Kyu-chan…!
Kazunari: Ohoho~, Kumopi and Mukkun have been moved to tears. It makes me remember the curtain call on our closing night~.
Misumi: There, there~.
Tenma: You guys are overreacting…
Yuki: Well, your acting will improve as much as you want from now on.
Kazunari: Yep, yep! We’ll work hard together from now on, right, Kumopi!
Muku: I’ll accompany you if you want to practise on your own, so let me know anytime.
Misumi: I like Kumon’s earnest and straightforward acting~.
Tenma: …And there you have it. You can make proper use of your failures in our 4th performance for our 5th performance. But aside from the troubles and failures… Even though it was your anticipated debut stage, are those really your only impressions?
Kumon: Eh…
Tenma: Do you have nothing else to say after you stood on stage for all those days and did your best at acting comedy?
Kumon: …It was fun. The play we put on with everyone was super fun! So I thought I wanted to act more and more with everyone as the Summer Troupe!
Tenma: Geez, see, you do. That’s the most important thing, alright?
Kumon: Ehehe, yeah!
——It looks like Summer troupe’s bond has grown stronger. “First Crush Baseball” was a baseball-themed story, but if you all were to watch a game, would it be baseball? Or another sport?
Kumon: It’s definitely baseball for me! Of course I like playing it, but as expected, watching baseball is the most fun!
Muku: I guess it’s baseball for me too. I’ve been going to watch Kyu-chan’s games, and we’ve been watching baseball on TV together since a long time ago.
Kazunari: Samesies~. I really started liking it after performing it on stage! I’m especially attached to second base!
Tenma: You do get interested in the position you played yourself, huh? I can’t help but watch it when it’s broadcast, and my eyes always drift towards the catcher too.
Misumi: I get it, I get it~. I’m also into baseball! Since the shape of the home plate is like a triangle~.
Tenma: Is that why!
Kumon: Ohhh! The baseball lovers have increased! I’m super happy~!
Yuki: Hmm, I don’t particularly have a sport, but anything apart from soccer.
Muku: Eh? Yuki-kun hates soccer?
Yuki: I don't particuarly like nor dislike soccer itself, but when it’s on TV, those guys’ cheering gets so fired up that I can’t stand it. The temperature in the room rises.
Tenma: (Winter troupe’s) Tasuku-san and them, huh…
Kazunari: Eh! It’s rare for Tax and them to get so hyped-up, so it’s fun and I like watching it together with them.
——And so, your 5th show is currently underway, is that right? Since the play is about ninjas, there are all sorts of actions scenes, but did you undergo any special training?
Tenma: We watched videos of Autumn Troupe’s plays and used them as reference on how to utilize our movements and spacing in action scenes.
Kazunari: It’s hard when you try doing it though~. Four guys moving around on that narrow stage looks awkward if you don’t figure out a way to showcase it.
Tenma: We got Director and (Autumn Troupe’s) Sakyo-san to watch us countless times, and then finally solidified it.
Muku: At first, we were worried we wouldn’t be able to keep up with Misumi-san’s agile movements, but when we tried it, we were able to catch up and move with the tempo too so it actually went well.
Yuki: Saying the Triangle Alien’s movements are agile is putting it lightly.
Kumon: Sumi-san’s kunai handling was super cool too!
Misumi: Ehehe~ thanks~.
Tenma: I’m glad the Summer Troupe doesn’t have anyone who’s seriously bad at exercising.
Kazunari: Strictly speaking, the only one who’s unathletic in our Theatre Company is (Spring Troupe’s) Itarun, right~? (Winter Troupe’s) Azu and Arinrin both don’t like excercising either, but it’s not like they’re unathletic.
Yuki: More than a miracle, it was thanks to that gamer’s obsession that he was able to get through the Spring Troupe’s 5th play.
Muku: We have to do our best too so we don’t run out of stamina until our closing night!
Kumon: Alriiight, then let’s run home today! We’ll go on a run!
Tenma: Yeah, I’ll pass.
Kazunari: Good luck, Kumopi!
Yuki: Go ahead by yourself.
Kumon: EHH!? E-even Muku won't…?
Muku: U-ummm… If it’s just a little bit…
Misumi: I’ll run too~.
Tenma: Geez. Don’t let it affect tomorrow’s performance.
——Speaking of summer, it was Yuki-kun and Kumon-kun’s birthdays a little while ago, right? Did you all throw a birthday party together?
Kazunari: ‘Course, we held surprise parties for both of them 𝅘𝅥𝅮
Kumon: We sure spent a long time thinking together about what kinda design we should go with for Yuki’s birthday cake.
Tenma: Well, it’s because Yuki’s fussy about designs. It was a relief Kazunari did a good job of getting everything down into an illustration.
Yuki: The sugar candy torso was cute. Thanks.
Misumi: We struck out together on Kumon’s birthday~!
Muku: We went with a cushion that was modeled after Sakura High's uniform, and we were really glad Kyu-chan accepted it just like we hoped he would!
Kumon: I’m super happy with it already… and it’s a treasure of a lifetime for me! But since it’s a nice chance, I’d be so happy if we could all have matching ones together someday.
Tenma: That’s true. How about it, Yuki?
Yuki: …Well, I’ll make one for everyone if I feel like it. Personally, I like Sakura High’s uniform too.
Kumon: Yay—! Thanks, Yuki!
Yuki: The hack can make his own though. I’ll teach him how to make it.
Tenma: Haa!? Why am I the only one who has to make it myself!
Yuki: Because you’re Tenma.
Tenma: That’s not a reason!
Muku: U-ummm… It’ll be Kazu-kun’s birthday soon, right! Do you have any present that you want?
Kazunari: Hmmm, something I want, eh~. …What do to, maybe there’s nothing.
Kumon: So selfless!
Kazunari: That’s not what I meant by that~. Lemme think! How about Mukkun? Your birthday’s after mine, right?
Muku: Me? Hm~mmm…
Misumi: Could it be, Muku doesn’t have anything either?
Muku: Ahaha. I think I’ll have something, but when I’m asked like this, nothing jumps out at me.
Kazunari: Right~. Then let’s think about it together!
Muku: Yeah!
——Now then, please leave a message, including any announcements from MANKAI Company, to your fans.
Tenma: There were various troubles this time as well, but following Spring Troupe, Summer Troupe was able to safely raise the curtain on our 5th show as well. I want to create the very best play with these 6 members, without missing a single person, all the way until our closing day. Please continue to support Summer Troupe from now on as well.

the crown prince and his advisor.
🌻👑🍁🍰 sakisaka muku + hyodo juza
“absolutely not.”
it doesn’t take much for first in line, prince feared across many nations, and legend in the making, hyodo juza, to not cooperate with his royal court
an arranged marriage, was expectedly one of the things that made him incompetent
“ju–chan,” first advisor muku started, ignoring the snickers of the much older men around him at the childhood nickname and juza’s sudden flustered expression, “you would be a fool to not agree to this arrangement.”
“me? the fool?!” juza huffed, his voice on the verge of raising as he narrowed his eyes at his cousin with the sharp threat of a death sentence. muku sighed, knitting his eyebrows together as he patiently tapped his fingers upon the round table
(leave it to his older, much more influential, and wealthier cousin to be incredibly difficult to work with)
“yes, you know akizakura is the rising power this century. they’re challenging societal norms and making every other monarchy uneasy with their progressiveness. you and them together would have a shocking power play over every single nation on this map.”
muku used his feather quill to refer to the aged map laid out, gesturing as if to say “this could all be yours if you played your cards right”. juza was about to fight back, but bit his tongue, nearly slouching in his seat to contemplate before straightening with muku’s pointed glare
(seriously... juza was the older one?)
“i have no desire to be a dictator.” juza finally spat, turning his head away towards the window and closed his eyes. the rest of the court bristled at this bold, unambitious statement but muku solemnly nodded
after all, it was the dying king’s one true goal to conquer all, not juza’s
“if i may say, prince juza, the heir to the throne—”
“i wish to hear nothing about this so called heir. they mean nothing to me.”
silence plagued the court, the somewhat out of touch yet logical advisors sharing disapproving looks of juza’s childish behavior. muku did his best not to roll his eyes at the crowd, instead plastering a neutral expression
it seemed like most of the times, the whole kingdom forgot juza was a child. just a boy suddenly forced to uphold his responsibilities with his father’s slow demise
“shall we reconvene tomorrow?” muku suggested, to which juza nodded. the court quickly went up and left, shooting curious and nosy glances at muku who remained in his seat. when everyone parted ways and the guard by the door confirmed there were no eavesdroppers, muku quietly pushed out his chair and moved to stand by his cousin’s side
for a while, no one said anything. until, juza’s tense posture slumped and he buried his face into his hands, trying his best to keep it all together even with no one to witness his defenses down
“i wish... father wasn’t so ill. i shouldn’t be here, i don’t want to be here.” juza declared, the words muffled by his palms. advisor muku gently placed a hand upon the crown prince’s shoulder, patting it slightly with a sympathetic tone to his words
“i know, i’m sorry. but, you will be a great king for the people of higanbana.”
before juza could ask how he knew for sure, muku just fixed the kingdom’s red spider lily pendant to make sure it was straight. it was the royal family’s heirloom, a universally recognized sign this was the son of a highly respected, pure bloodline
“ju–chan, have i ever led you astray?”
yes, many times, juza thought, reminiscing back on when they were kids. but, he didn’t say any of that, he instead shook his head solemnly
hyodo juza, first in line, prince feared across many nations, legacy in the making, was only eighteen when he would be coronated as king. the youngest king in all of higanbana history, all because his father was dying
and, he needed to secure his ascension through marriage to a complete stranger
but rest assured, muku, number one advisor, cousin to the crown prince, wise beyond all, was surprisingly relentless. becoming the new upcoming king’s right hand man had changed him for the better, preventing him from letting his insecurity and indecisiveness show its true colors
sure, he was still the scared coward who screamed unlike a man and didn’t have the natural class of royalty, but putting on a front was worth it to save juza from losing all support inside and out
the abrupt news that the oldest son of the hyodo family was soon to be hailed as king was, a surprise, to the townsfolk. many who were comfortable and simply used to king hyodo’s reign were not vocally against it, luckily enough. it was more a thing to gossip about than anything, but the royal family never particularly enjoyed the rumor mill
unfortunately, being coronated as a... single king was a pressing matter to all of the people, apparently. no king in history just rose to power without an influential and powerful partner by their side, it would leave vulernability due to the limited allies
especially what would remain of them, considering some kingdoms may break ties with the hyodos since juza and his father were... very different people
so, as said before, muku was relentless. continously insisting that this marriage contract was the best possible option for juza, that no other heir could even come close. juza didn’t want to believe it even if it was true, considering his stubborn nature
it took many, many bribes of tea parties and constant challenging duels for him to admit defeat
it was perhaps a tiring match that afternoon before juza exhaled sharply through his nose, moving to sheath his sword as he waved the white flag. muku, also surprisingly quick and agile on his feet with a weapon, managed to suppress a “told you so” grin at the look of exasperation
“fine, fine! i’m tired of fighting—” juza was not a major fan of dueling whatsoever, even if he was blessed with the physical proportions to do so easily
before muku could jump up in relief, juza sent a stern glare with no malice towards his cousin’s way. the sword hit the sheath, making a loud cutting noise throughout the empty, private training grounds
“but, i want to meet them first. then, i’ll decide to marry or not.”
muku knew this was the best he was going to get, and had the private secretary immediately pen a letter toward’s akizakura. shortly afterwards, a request for the heir to visit was accepted
you were also first in line, an intimidating but just political figure, and also a legend in the making. you were the talk of the town, to say the least
but, you sure didn’t feel like it
you anxiously tapped your foot, feeling seasick from how long this boat journey had already been. you had been invited by the higanbara kingdom to “visit” to “discuss political alliances and ideas to better serve the people”, though anyone with a brain could see straight through that lie
your parents intended on promising you to some eighteen year old hyodo hotshot, someone you’ve never even met!
at first, you were extremely demanding for them to consider changing their minds, that you didn’t need... a man... to help you rule the world. men would only hold you back, they’d do nothing good for you, anyways!
but, you knew the future of akizakura was in your hands. your parents were strong, but slowly, their old age would catch up to them and they needed to protect the famly legacy. you were the next expected heir, considering how active you’ve been in the government since you could read and write
though, no one exactly stated a marriage contract came along with power
you didn’t exactly know what higanbara looked like, but you’ve heard... rumors, about the family that ruled it all. the hyodos were an imposing force, spreading their control far and wide with unfathomable military power and merciless tactics
you couldn’t imagine what the crown prince was like. how, barbaric, he must be. must’ve been an inhumane and unreasonable fighter that took everyones’ heads with him
lucky for you, you were a trained fighter as well who would never let a man even have a sliver of control over your dead body
“your royal highness, we are here in higanbara.” the captain announced, followed by the sound of the ship’s horn. thank the gods, or you might have swam there yourself considering how rocky sea travels were
fixing your appearance, you masked your face in a stone cold expression, showing you were all business without the supervision of your parents. you were your own person, you didn’t need to be ordered around by some man
as the ship reached port, you noticed a set of figures at the foggy dock. higanbara was... dismal. it was all shades of grey, like there was no life. the oceans were a glittering silver, as if there were thousands of treasures waiting to be discovered. and at the port, was a sight to behold
you stepped onto the creaky wood cautiously, looking around before you noticed a stoic face peering down at you. perhaps a beat too late from how much he was staring, he then offered his hand without ever saying a word
you ignored it, knowing you didn’t need it at all. but from the looks of it, they were calloused, scarred, large. hands of a warrior—his eyebrows rose slightly in surprise at your blatant rejection. before he could speak, you heard someone else introduce the kingdom
“your royal highness, welcome to higanbara!” you heard a gentle, but enthusiastic, voice from behind the tall man who helped you on land. you turned to see a rather short, pink–haired royal with a shaky but elegant smile. you couldn’t help but smile at the boy
(you didn’t notice juza’s subconcscious quirk of his lips at your guard coming down, before he looked away with his ears red and mind confused. why did he do that?)
“thank you...?” you trailed off, awaiting an introduction before the pink royal dropped into a hurried but somewhat graceful bow, coming up with a surprise rose. you had no idea where it came from, causing you to let out a surprised laugh. higanbara was filled with many surprises, apparently
“i am his royal highness’ first advisor, sakisaka muku, it is a pleasure.” muku smiled pleasantly, but you noticed his eyes lingered on the way you stood oddly close with the crown prince
you tried to step back casually as if there was nothing wrong, but you almost stumbled off the edge of the dock. unluckily, juza was fast and immediately wrapped his arm around your waist, keeping you close as he froze under the sudden attention at your close proximity
“let go.” you demanded and your tone was ice cold like the waters
“please... be careful—” juza mumbled, his grip strong before you pushed him off, scowling with a sharp glare his way
“let go!” you yelled, drawing attention as you glared daggers at higanbara’s crown prince. you couldn’t believe it, did all men just think they could grip you like that? as if you needed help?!
“do not touch me, i did not give you permission.” you cursed, shocking nearly everyone as you brushed off your clothes. juza blinked, taken back before he frowned, his eyebrows furrowed
“but, if i hadn’t, you would’ve fell into the water—”
“then, let me fall! i can swim!”
when you met his eyes, he was very clearly frustrated. the awe of meeting you had worn off, and juza was certain he’d make an enemy out of your stubborn pride and rude attitude right off the bat
muku intervened, laughing awkwardly as if a newcomer didn’t just yell at higanbara’s crown prince. stepping between you two, he seemed to communicate something with his eyes to juza who suppressed the need to storm off
“i am first in line, crown prince hyodo juza. a... pleasure.” juza faltered, his tone superficial and void of any genuine pleasure. he bowed anyways, his back rigid and yellow eyes analyzing your every move. he must’ve been a battle tactician with how observant he was
you didn’t do anything back, just crossed your arms and averted your eyes. “i know who you are, you know who i am. can we move on?”
juza was about to impulsively snap back before muku agreed, staying between you two despite the common courtesy of trailing behind royalty. the guards set at the port parted on command, yelling back “yes sir!” at juza’s order to march back to the castle
was this a power move? to intimidate you and make you go in shock over juza’s military background? two could play at this game
you stood taller, ignoring his gaze as you hurried forward, not wanting to be beside the man who just randomly touched you without your consent. not to mention, the audacity to linger! how inappropiate!
juza stared after you, and looked over his shoulder towards muku, visually confused over how offstandish you were
muku just sighed. this was going to be a long, long two weeks of akizakura’s ascending heir in higanbara
it was an understatement to say you and juza got off on the wrong foot. you never allowed just anyone to touch you randomly out of no where. you weren’t some clumsy person in distress, you were a leading figure in your kingdom, for goodness sake! you easily could’ve fixed your footing, stood back up straight, and moved on
juza was rather peeved at your reaction. you didn’t even take his hand like a polite royal would! didn’t thank for him for saving you from the ocean and had the audacity to curse him out like he was some commoner in front of his own troops. juza felt embarrassed from how low he was treated, you had no respect for him or higanbara
muku, was tired. when other nobles whispered about how out of the ordinary and eccentric you were and how strange akizakura’s customs were, he didn’t expect having to save his crown prince from a near beating
you had guts and nerve, just like juza. maybe, you two had more than meets the eye, but unfortunately, both people were stubborn, prideful, and arrogant privileged kids who didn’t want to see the other side
so throughout the first half of your stay, muku felt more like a babysitter than an advisor. it took everything in his power to keep you two from physically fighting each other in front of the royal circle
you two seemed to disagree on everything. while you were an “all or nothing” type of pefson, who went extreme on every suggestion you had and was willing to risk everything for a better future, juza was... the opposite
unlike his bold and brash father who would’ve gotten along just fine with you, juza wanted new change. he was always playing the devil advocate, pointing out flaws you hadn’t taken account for before. but, he was hesitant, wanting to take it slow, and ease into the plan than go head first
it made both your tactics and strategies clash and nothing was getting done. but muku, wise and relentless muku, knew it was more than just childish arguments at the round table. it was the slowly building tension between you two ever since that one bad first impression
and perhaps, the intense pressure from both sides to accept this arranged marriage for the sake of both kingdoms. it was too much on teens savoring their last few years of youth
and just like before, muku knew what needed to happen in order for someone (most likely juza) to give up their defenses and say something
you elegantly strode into the training grounds early in the morning, holding the first advisor’s personal note in your hand as you looked around. you were scheduled to meet muku, in a neutral place to get the overview of today’s meeting without juza’s involvement
or, so you thought
you heard a scuff of shoes and a quick “damn, sakisaka” behind you. whipping around, you came face to face with a sleepy juza, who’s eyes immediately widened and took a few steps back. it seemed like you caught him off guard, and he held a similar note in his hand as well
it didn’t take a genius to figure out what muku had done, as you huffed and placed your hands on your hips. juza straightened his posture and looked down at you, expressing that he wished he could be anywhere but with you
“hyodo—” you started, to which juza pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes. “that’s my father, i’m juza.” you continued anyways, ignoring his sharp pointed look
“are you here to fight with me again? perhaps, make a fool of me again?” you accused, pointing a finger at his chest as seethed. juza rolled his eyes, visibily frustrated as he threw his hands up, planning his escape already
“i have no business with you here. i will depart now.” juza forced out in a neutral tone, as if you two hadn’t been at each other’s throats the past week. before juza could spin on his heel and take his leave, you grabbed a sword near by and the sound of it leaving its sheath made him stop in his tracks
“you. me. right now.” you demanded and juza let out a humorless laugh. you were in over your head if you could think you could beat a hyodo at a duel. looking at the sky, he noticed it would be quite a bit of time until the official start of his day as crown prince. maybe, he could spare a bit of time
“at your service, your royal highness.” juza mocked, obnoxiously bowing that made your eye twitch at how insufferable he was
“take your pick. regardless, you’ll lose by my hand.”
juza chose his normal practice sword, the hilt engraved with his name and bore the spider design of the red lily. it had the grandeur of being a ceremonial sword, which you scoffed at. ugh, rich kids
you took the one closest to you and juza expected you two would walk to the middle, circle each other to see who would make the first move. he should’ve known you weren’t exactly the waiting type, because the moment he stepped into the ring, you hit first
luckily, juza whipped his sword up and the metal clashed with yours, the sound echoing in the courtyard. that was the start of the longest duel juza’s ever had
used to muku’s dexterity, juza had to find out the hard way you were much more of a strength fighter. you took him by surprise most times, with forceful and somewhat vengeful attacks. yet, juza was a formidable opponent. he had learned from the best after all, and this was one of the few duels he had the goal to try at
you smirked when juza nearly lost his footing, not reaching out to catch him by any means and holding your hands up. “see, i respect people’s private space and don’t touch them without permission.”
juza swung back with much more force than normal, which you hurriedly parried. the contact of metal rang in your ears as juza gained the upper hand, looming over you with distaste
“you would’ve drowned if i let you fall!”
“you knew i didn’t take your hand for a reason, i refuse to let a man touch me!”
you pushed back but he was like a rock, unmoving and resilient. he seemed to contemplate something before putting his sword down, nearly sheathing it before stopping, making sure to meet your eye
“i’m sorry.”
you blinked, taken back. was that an apology? from a hyodo?
“i understand you have your reasonings to hate physical contact, and i respect that. by no means did i mean to make you uncomfortable.” juza explained, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders as he finally found a time to apologize properly
“i wouldn’t have touched you unless i knew it was for your own safety, i’m sorry.” juza finished and you thought about it, before putting your own sword down with a heavy sigh
“i’m... also sorry. i knew you had good intentions, but i blew up because...” you seemed to think some more before exhaling. “i don’t need a man to save me, don’t think i need you or anything. i’m a perfectly capable, independent person.”
juza related to how your pride blinded your anger, and nodded. you two seemed to reach a mutual understanding and juza ducked his head, lowering it so it’d be easier to talk to you away from the castle that was waking up
“i did not mean to insult your character. i’m sure you are a whole person who does not need saving, it was not my intention.”
without another word, you moved past him, acting as if you were going to put your weapon away. instead, you quickly knocked his sword out of his loose hands, smiling innocently as if nothing happened
“i believe i win.”
“a dirty play, mind you.”
“a win is a win.”
“a victory is nothing if not honorable.”
you looked over your shoulder with a curious look, as if you were really seeing juza for the first time. you expected a burly man who would burn down nations just for a taste of godhood. instead, he seemed humble, unlike a hyodo
“hyodo—”
“i’m not my father, i am juza.” juza repeated again, without the usual bite, and you suddenly understood why juza taking the throne was big news. he was nothing like his father, this would be the ushering of a new age
hopefully, a golden age
“juza,” you said for the first time and for once, he presented a close–lipped smile that seemed void of royal duties. “i look forward to dueling you again.”
“as do i.”
“do not expect to win.”
(first advisor muku held in his squeals on the balcony adjacent to the training grounds. he typically liked to sneak up there to read and prepare for the day, but he was hiding this time to eavesdrop. looks like his plan worked!)
(when juza looked up to meet his eyes, he looked as if he knew all this time. muku nervously smiled and waved slowly, to juza’s hidden relief that he made progress)
(but... why was he so happy to see you weren’t holding a grudge against him anymore? did your opinion truly mean that much?)
the round table was much more, productive. muku liked to take credit for the riveting debates that replaced the senseless arguments, finding that both you and juza had similar goals at the end of the day, just different tactics
although there were still some very inappropiate comments here and there by your mouth, it didn’t seem personal anymore. it was clear to the court that you were intelligent, bright, and offered new perspective that no one else considered. they all knew akizakura was a force not to be reckoned with
by then, a week had passed, and it was time for the welcoming ball!
you would be introduced to the rest of the castle through a rather lame excuse to party. you knew what all of the glamarous charades and rich pleasantries were really all about, to assess if akizakura was worthy of taking their beloved crown prince’s hand. you could’ve laughed, because that was a major joke
you didn’t need to do anything, you knew you already were above and beyond what they expected. so that night as you insisted on preparing your appearance alone, you were slightly annoyed to hear a knock on your guest chambers
“go away! i said—”
“your royal highness, this is crown prince juza’s first advisor, sakisaka muku.”
you paused, looking away from the mirror and relented, letting him come in. when muku silently stepped inside and closed the door gently, he bowed with newfound confidence and sent you an easy smile that made you feel at ease
you understood why juza would want muku around, he didn’t seem like that dependable of a guy, but he was a good person through and through
“sakisaka, i remember you. you were the one who misled me to duel juza.” you said, giving him an once over before fixing your hair, staring back into the mirror. out of the corner of your eye, you noticed muku blush and he resorted to laughing awkwardly unprompted
“ah... yes—”
“and you were the one hiding in the balcony, correct?”
muku’s eyes widened, how did he get caught?! he thought only juza noticed. it was no wonder how you were such an equal match to higanbara’s crown prince, you had the same strengths and few weaknesses
“please, you do not give me enough credit.” you hummed in response, standing up and approving your final look of the day. you would wear akizakura’s kingdom colors, with the crest pinned. it would leave no question who you represented and where your loyalties lied
muku rubbed the back of his neck, letting out a breathy “haha” as the silence overcame. you slipped your kingdom ring on, watching it glint in the subtle candle light
“though, i must thank you, shouldn’t i?” you spoke in rhetorics often, muku realized. he waited for you to continue and you did, busying yourself with cleaning up your station. you had no need of maids even if you respected the profession
“without you, i wouldn’t have gotten an apology out of him. now, we’re...” you trailed off, unsure on how to finish that statement. muku hid his teasing smile, masking it as something innocent as he gratefully bowed his head, his white–gloved hand over his heart
“friends?”
you didn’t answer, instead standing tall and turning to completely face muku. he didn’t look you in the eye, but he too increased his height as if to match your authority. he was admirable for at least trying
“i must say, first advisor, juza is most fortunate to have you clean up his messes.” you half–joked, and muku nodded, agreeing seriously even if it was in jest
“however, i can promise you this. if you must contact me, do not trick me. i will not be as merciful.”
a shiver ran down muku’s spine. you truly were next in line of ruthless akizakura. but, it was a sign of respect, nonetheless. everyone was fully aware of how outstanding and remarkable you were to be the voice of the new generation
“understood, your highness. i did not come to deceit you, only to greet my cousin when he arrives.”
you tilted your head. this was news—no one could exactly tell muku and juza were cousins. really? the same bloodline?
“are you serious?”
“we get that reaction a lot.” you heard juza’s voice behind the door and you subconsciously broke your stern expression, rolling your eyes as you crossed your arms. muku noticed your shoulders dropped ever so slightly, you must’ve been comfortable around juza, then
“come in already, don’t be a creep.” you called out and juza stepped inside, stopping at the sight of you. instantly, his cheeks became flushed and he seemed like he was about to do something incredibly stupid (which he did, amused muku did not stop him)
“you—um, you, you look... nice.”
nice? you looked absolutely amazing, you already knew that. you were going to be the best dressed in the entire ballroom, that’s for sure
(but, for some reason, you were disappointed. nice? was that all you were to him? wait—why did you care?! a man’s validation of your appearance was the last thing you needed)
muku was this close to intervening before you huffed, patting down your outfit. “do i suddenly have value because i look nice?” you air–quoted “nice” and juza got even redder, looking away as if to save his dignity
“no, no. your worth isn’t based on your looks.” juza reassured and you knew he meant it. you relaxed a bit, thankful juza didn’t have the same intentions as every royal noble out there ever. muku’s eyes bounced back from you and juza continously, picking up on the signs with increasing interest
he had never seen juza slip up this much around someone before... could it be? did he actually like you now?
“look at the time! i must go help with the preparations, come down soon.” muku lied, which juza caught on fairly quickly. before he could call muku to come back, the young advisor sliped out of the chambers and ran to the main event. he succeeded in leaving you and juza alone
an uncomfortable silence set over both of you as juza examined your room out of curiousity, and you tapped your foot. you were confused, what was this feeling inside your chest? why were you suddenly so nervous?
if you were confused, you didn’t let it show on your face. instead, juza offered his arm, holding it out to you with no threat at all as he gestured his chin towards the ballroom
“would you do me the honor of letting me escort you to the ball?”
you stared at his arm, the arm you noticed was slightly shaking, whether from nerves or holding it out too long, who knew. as much as you hated to admit it, you wouldn’t want any other person escorting you
with a turn of events, you took juza’s arm and felt it tense before relaxing, giving you a chance to let go any time. he put on a rare smile, and you liked how his yellow eyes crinkled at the corners when he did
“thank you.” for trusting me, for changing your opinion about me, for giving me a chance even if i don’t deserve it, juza thought, but it was all unsaid
“sure.” you responded, but you smiled, too. it was the first time you had given him such a genuine smile, that he couldn’t help but do the same
you two moved to stand at the top of the stairs, awaiting the announcement of both your names. in the mean time, you realized juza wasn’t the hyodo you thought he was
as he escorted you down the stairs, with everyone’s eyes on you two, you two were the splitting image of graceful and threatening intimidation and power. but, it didn’t feel like that. instead, it was just you and juza, a crown prince who had a nasty temper and natural hand at sword dueling
the ball seemed to last a lifetime. so many unnecessary introductions which you put a front on. social interaction was draining, it was becoming a difficult task to shake everyone’s hands and pretended like you cared about rich people problems
so, like every celebration ever, you escaped the main event and stepped into the hyodo rose garden. mostly hues of orange, you noticed the eternal autumn that hung over the kingdom. oranges and reds entranced you as you sat at the edge of the water fountain in the middle, the constant stream distracting you from the background party noise
(“where are they?” juza asked, pulling wallflower muku aside who mainly stood by the buffet table to hide extra sweets for his cousin. muku smiled, his eyes sliding in the direction of the rose garden as juza caught on. though, juza seemed hesitant, like he was worried if he should go or not)
(“do not be a fool, ju–chan. what other time will you have to confess?” muku asked and juza nearly choked on his champagne glass, shooting a wide–eyed look at his cousin. it was as if he was asking how did he know?)
(“this is your first crush, isn’t it? luckily, the person you intend on marrying.” muku lightheartedly jested, to which juza bumped his shoulder into his slightly. “like i said, do not be a fool, ju–chan. go.”)
(juza contemplated it before nodding, slipping out of mind and out of sight. muku proudly raised his glass after him, as if to say congratulations. all that gossip with the town cupid paid off for muku, his crown prince would be hopelessly pining without him)
(all he needed to do was one last thing. first advisor made his way towards the orchestra, about to request a song)
you watched the moonlight for quite a time before you heard a rustle of leaves towards the entrance, turning your head to see juza. juza, in his orange and black uniform and red spider lily pendant. juza looked dashing beneath the stars, as he waited for you to invite him
you moved aside and juza sat down at a safe distance, stargazing along with you. the silence was comfortable, this time around. it was filled with glasses clinking together, the everpresent buzz of crickets, and flow of the water fountain
unlike your initial thoughts, you didn’t exactly mind higanbara as much as you thought you would
“the ball, is a bit much.” juza admitted, to which you agreed. “tell me about it, i don’t know how you lasted that long.” you said lightheartedly, but it seemed to make juza think as he leaned back, balancing himself by stretching his hands out on the rim of the fountain
“i... i don’t like balls, really. my father always liked them, he was the life of the party.” you noticed juza used the past tense even if his father was still alive, but you knew not for long
“he was also, born to be king. could command a whole army without fail, delivered inspiring speeches that could get the whole town riled up, was the face of his kingdom. now...”
“it’s you.”
juza nodded, as if accepting this fact for the first time. it was as clear as the full moon that night—juza was afraid he could never live up to the legacy his father would soon leave behind
“i don’t want to be king.” juza confessed in a whisper, like it could change anything. you wanted to be a monarch, but you understood juza’s struggles. he must’ve missed out on a normal childhood, like every other person born into nobility
“but, i care for the people of higanbana. i will do my best to make them proud, and to continue the legacy of this kingdom.” juza continued, clenching his fists as he did so. you turned your head to see he looked lighter, like it was something weighing him down ever since he found out
“you’ll be a good king. i have seen your plans, and you are unlike your father. you will be better.”
juza turned to stare into your eyes, searching for any sign of lies. you were telling the truth, and you were shocked at how honest you just were. but, you believed it. you believed in juza and his legacy, the incoming new golden age would arrive
“thank you, i—your people are lucky to have you.” juza said, but he seemed distant. before he could lean in, you heard the soft playing of the orchestra from far, far away
this time, you stood up and offered your hand. unlike last time however, juza accepted your hand and it was true. both your hands were calloused, scarred, large. so the two warriors wordlessly slow danced under the moonlight in the rose garden to their new favorite song
that night, juza may have not said it out loud, but both of you were too observant and smart for your own good. as he walked you to your chambers, you were the one who leaned in this time
“is this a dirty play?” you teased, inches away from his lips. juza gulped as he admired your face illuminated by the lanterns
“a win is a win.”
it was all fair, in the game of love
your two weeks had passed. it was time for you to go home, back to akizakura to make your final decision of whether to marry a hyodo or not
you let juza help you into the boat even if you didn’t need it, and said goodbye to the grey higanbana and it’s forever autumn. there was no one around since juza requested a private departure, so you let yourself smile at him
“will i see you again?” juza asked the question that had been weighing on his mind ever since that night in the rose garden. you were on the ship, but didn’t let go of his hand
“do not be a fool, juza,” you started roughly, and juza could feel his heart drop. was this the end? he didn’t want this to be the last time, he liked you
“next time, you’ll go to akizakura. there, we can duel.”
“and i’ll win.” juza confirmed and you let go, fondly rolling your eyes. as the ship departed, you suddenly rushed to the edge, cupping your hands around your mouth
“tell sakisaka i said thank you!”
of course, you found out about everything. juza just nodded and waved, watching you disappear into the horizon
juza would await your invitation to akizakura as he practiced his dueling skills with a certain matchmaker named sakisaka muku

Lifeguard Juza at your service
🍁
"If the waves took you, you'd be gone without a trace. That's why I wanna protect you."
- Juza Hyodo [Shoreline Sentimentality]
Tumblr media
A series of short stories based on in-game card quotes. I just randomly found out about this, which led me to imagine scenarios with them. ☺
Starting out with Mr. Juza Hyodo since he's my husbando. 💜
.・゜-: ✧ :- -: ✧ :-゜・.
You were floating in a tube, playing within the shallow waters near the beach with everyone from Mankai, except a selected few who refused to leave the parasols in fear of the UV rays.
Muku and Kumon had been teaching you how to swim, though one could argue the pool might be a safer venue.
But, you insisted since you wanted to at least plunge into the cool water and play games with the rest.
Little did you know, Juza had been eyeing the group from the beach.
His head eventually got hit by the beachball (arguably on purpose) from Banri's smash.
Banri laughed his heart out, teasing Juza who was obviously distracted. "That's what ya get from not keeping your head in the game, Hyodo." His laughter almost echoed throughout the beach. Even you glanced back to their direction at the sheer loudness of the ruckus.
"Settsu, you-" As always, Omi stopped the boys from fighting before Sakyo would step in and confiscate the beachball in the aftermath.
Whilst putting pressure on the bump, Juza still directed all his attention on the striped tube, floating nearby. Rather, he was focusing on you.
With each wave crashing in, his chest tightened and heart beat faster. Should he drag you to the safety of the beach? But you looked like you were having fun. His mind was conflicted, and his furrowed eyebrows intrigued Omi who followed his gaze and figured out the focus of his attention.
"They'll be fine." Omi commented, almost scaring the poor purple-haired lad. "They're swimming together with Kumon and Muku, right? I think they're close enough for us to catch them in case they're in trouble, so don't worry, Juza."
Yet, Juza couldn't avert his eyes from you as he was filled with the fear of losing you, the light in his life whose presence shined as bright as Kumon and Muku for God knows since when.
As the sun started to set, Sakyo called everyone to pack up so they could reach back in time before dinner.
Setting foot back on land, you rolled the tube for the fun of it, chatting with Muku and Kumon about the next time everyone could hang out at the beach.
Laughing at Kumon's joke, you let go of the tube which ended up rolling away at lightning speed.
As you dashed towards it, Juza had already approached you, holding the tube.
"Thank you, Juza-san!" You beamed in gratitude, reaching out your hands to grab the tube.
He was confused at first, not knowing whether you wanted to hug him or the tube. He figured the latter and handed the tube over to you while patting your head.
You were familiar with the gesture since you witnessed him patting Kumon numerous times. But, it was the first time Juza did that to you.
Confused, you glanced up to look him in the eye. Flustered at your sudden gaze, he looked away, muttering under his breath. "...Don't go out of my sight next time."
"Eh, why?" Your naivety baffled him. Were you not aware of the dangers of swimming in the ocean? He knew you couldn't swim after all.
Without a second thought, he responded, "Don't want ya to get hurt... I can't protect ya if I can't see."
You let out a small giggle. "Is it because I can't swim?"
Juza couldn't help his ears from reddening on its tips and his cheeks from blushing. There's a certain ring to your voice that he can't get enough of, not that he'll ever admit or tell you about it.
"Juza-san, if that's the case, I guess I'll have to keep in mind to always be near you." Hugging the tube to keep it from falling, you continued, "I'll be in your care, Juza-san."
With your smile etched in his mind, Juza didn't need any more motivation; you'll always be under his protection and he can keep that smile of yours all to himself. 💜

if you are taking rquests, could you do some headcannons about a reader who also has an intimidating look, and is insecure about it, with taichi and juza? if you do, thank you vv much!! 🥺
Sorry I took so long, dear! Thank you for taking the time to request it. Really hope you like it! 💕
Taichi and Juza x Intimidating! Insecure! reader
Taichi
We all know how much trouble Taichi always had with fitting until Mankai.
He sometimes sees how you have difficulty in school socializing with others.
He doesn’t get it at first? He has only seen you from afar but he thinks you are cool??
Hears comments about your intimidating aspect. Still doesn’t get it.
Decides to invite you to have lunch with Tenma, Juza and himself.
You are unsure but end up going.
Becomes a routine? They accept you and that’s all you needed
Taichi’s heart goes full doki doki when he sees you happier about yourself
Taichi had noticed it before, but now he could confirm that whenever he was doing P.E outside, he saw you staying away from others. That day your class was doing football and you were put as the goalkeeper. So far, no one had gotten close to it.
“Nanao, can’t find the baseball?”
Taichi turned to his own classmate “Ah, sorry!” his class was in the middle of a match and he had gone to retrieve it.
“Y/N, uh” the same classmates followed his line of sight “They have quite the glare.”
Taichi tilted his head. What glare? He just thought it was weird seeing you alone in a class like P.E. He had always thought you looked cool when he passed you by the hallways though, so mysterious and all, maybe he could attract girls if he did that!
More classmates arrived, thinking the ball was lost too, ending making comments with you as the main subject.
“Ah, that’s the famous Y/N from B class, right?”
“No wonder no one’s trying to score..”
Taichi looked around, still confused “Famous? Did they do something?”
“Most likely…? I don’t know though”
“I mean, it’s not like they have weird rumors like that Hyodo guy but… they make me feel uncomfortable”
Without thinking twice, that very same day, Taichi found himself in front of you during lunch break.
“Do you need anything?”
“H-hi! Sorry uh…” he played with his hands. You were frowning so much it looked like Sakyo when he lectured him for doing something wrong. Suddenly the idea of coming right up at you didn’t seem as good. Mostly because he didn’t want to be a bother.
Maybe you preferred to be alone?
He looked at you again beginning to apologize and leave when he noticed it. Yes, you were frowning and sure, it must have looked scary from the outside… but you had been waiting patiently for him to speak. Taichi swallowed down his nerves.
“Well, uh, I hope it’s not weird b-but…! I saw you in P.E and you looked really cool! Wait no, that’s uh…!” he notices your frown increased. Ugh, why was he stuttering so much? “So, uh, d-do you want you to have lunch outside!?”
Even though the boy had shouted the invitation so much your own classmates had turned, you still couldn’t believe your ears.
“Aren’t you… afraid of me?” the questions came out without you wanting to. You saw him closing and opening his mouth, trembling.
“S-SHOULD I?”
Lifting your head scandalized at him, you moved your hands frantically “NO! No, no! I don’t-!” you put both of your hands on your lap, trying to calm down “I, um, don’t get many invitations, so I got... surprised”
You were sure you were blushing hard form the embarrassment.
“Oh!” Taichi smiled at you, now breathing relieved. Then everything was okay in his book! He really wanted to get to know you better now “Then want to come? I’m sure everyone will be happy too!”
“I…”
Everyone?
                                           .........……………………..
“Ey, guys! Brought someone to have lunch with us, this is Y/N!”
Tenma and Juza stopped talking as they both processed what he had just said, directing then their gazes at you. You didn’t move.
“Uh… hi” the summer troupe leader waved, a bit uncomfortable seeing you not responding. Juza simply nodded.
You were a mess, feeling your eyebrows frowning as you always did when you got nervous. This could not get worse. He was friends with THE Sumeragi Tenma and THE Hyodo Juza??
“Come Y/N, it’s okay!” he smiled at you warmly, sitting with them and looking at you to copy him and sit as well.
Tenma was confused. He didn’t expect Taichi to bring people to their lunch breaks. However, if Taichi had brought you, it should mean something.
He tried to casually make up small talk “…You are in class B, right?”
You nodded in silence as you sat close to the redhead. How did he know? What were you supposed to say? You noticed a glare coming towards you. Juza Hyodo. You tried to avoid him when something on his lap caught your attention too. You both stood in silence.
“Uh, guys…?” Taichi didn’t really understand what was happening. He looked at Tenma to get help but he also looked like he was at a loss. The autumn member suddenly gasped, you two weren’t enemies or anything right?!
“…those rolled omelettes look good”
Oh. You looked down your lunchbox “I… was going to say the same thing about your melon bread”
Tenma and Taichi sighed together
“You two scared the life out of me!” Tenma scolded you two as he leaned on the tree, closing his eyes.
Taichi put his hand on his chest. Looks like you both were just interested in food. He looked more carefully at your lunch “Juza-san’s right! That looks really good! You made them, Y/N?”
“Y-yeah, I like cooking so…”
“That’s so cool! I sometimes cook too!”
He smiled at you and your heart leaped. That had been one of the first times in a while someone smiled so big at you instead of diverting their eyes.
“Wait, didn’t Tsuzuru have to help you make rice because it took you an hour last time?”
“Ten-chan, you are not supposed to say those things!”
Somehow, the conversation kept going, as well as the days you decided to spend lunch break together. You were speechless at how natural it felt to spend time with Taichi and the others, how it felt like something had been lifted from your chest.
You should have imagined, being yourself the focus of many, but they weren’t like those rumors you heard. Tenma was cooler and Juza kinder than you had expected. None of those boys tried to mind their words around you either or looked intimidated but your looks. They joked around and messed with each other.
You felt yourself enjoying school life for once.
“YOU MADE THIS Y/N?!”
“Should I not have??” you looked worried at the lunch you had brought. You had told them you would bring lunch that day, right?
“I-It’s just looks too good!!” Taichi’s eyes were practically sparkling. He looked at you again “Are you sure?!”
Not being able to hold back, a burst of laughter came out of you, watching him being so melodramatic. Taichi had become a pillar in your daily life and you couldn’t be happier nowadays “Of course I want all of you to try it!”
Juza was about to start eating when he noticed Taichi holding his breath “…Y’ok?”
The redhead turned to him, eyes wide open “Wh-what?! Of course! I…” he couldn’t stop looking at you. Your smile laughing just then had been the most real and most bright thing he had ever seen.
“You look like you are going to pass out”
“They are right Taichi, you are red” you frowned confused.
“Pl-please ignore it!!”
-
Juza
Now it gets more serious
He doesn’t know you personally? But sees you around Veludo Station
If there’s someone who also knows what it feels like to feel insecure about oneself, it’s this boy
You are nice, so it makes him angry when he sees you dejected
He would usually stay quiet but can’t help wanting to help you feel better about yourself
Just like Mankai helped him
Might ask for help at the dorm?
He listens to you
None of the Mankai students from Ouka public high school took the train to get to school, but they pretty much had to pass in front of the station to get there so Juza already recognized you the first time you two crossed paths that day.
“Shit”
“I’m so sorry, Juza-san! I swear I thought I had put it in my bag last night!”
They were sprinting at full force. They had had to go back to the dorm to get Taichi’s project and Tenma had gone on a shot earlier in the morning, so it wasn’t like they could even ask Igawa to take them with the car.
“Now you don’t look so arrogant, uh?”
Juza stopped on his tracks when he heard the yelling from not so far away and then noticed you. Call it instinct from all of his fights, but he could tell what type the situation was going on.
“Do I have something on my face?”
You gripped the trip of your school bag, trying to calm down. Those two men reeked alcohol. “No, I was just-“
“Then why do you keep glaring at me like that, uh?”
“I was just trying to help the old lady there with her train tickets. It’s almost time and you two were-“
You were in the middle of what looked like a discussion against two adults who had now started raising their voices and moving their hands aggresively around you. People watched from the distance and whispered, but no one seemed to try and stop it.
“You know them, Juza-san?” Taichi approached the boy worried.
The answer was no. He had never talked to you.
It didn’t matter.
“Get goin’… I’ll catch up”
You looked around getting worried. No one seemed to care that two old men were raising their voices at you in the middle of the street. You felt desperate. Was it because of your so-called intimidating looks? Again? You mentally cursed as you tried to push them out of the way “Ok, just let me go and-“
One of them pushed you back “You tryin’ somethin’ now?”
The anger mixed with fear. You decided to start shouting when a boy your age grabbed them by the shoulders and dragged them far from you.
“Got a problem, old men?”
You blinked, not comprehending the current situation. Was he helping you? He also looked like he was up to no good, his voice a mere growl and menacing stare. However, it was directed to them.
“Get out of the way, doesn’t matter to you”
“How ‘bout you two do it before”
Was there going to be a fight? The two men must have noticed it too because they grew quiet, grumbling and looking at each other.
“Relax man… let’s not get nervous”
“Then get the hell out of here”
“Fuck’s up with people’s faces man? Everyone looking damn scary and shit…” both left the station as Juza turned to you. You looked tired.
“… y’ok?”
You jumped when he directed his attention to you “It’s… okay” a small sigh came out of your lips, but you smiled grateful “I’m used to it. I shouldn’t… I shouldn’t feel bothered by it by now”
Juza frowned confused. The times he had seen you around you were always helping someone or humming to yourself. You shouldn’t be used to those reactions “What did…” he saw you looking at the ground, a complex expression going on your face that he couldn’t understand “…What did they want from you?”
You shrugged “I... accidentally bumped into them when I was helping an old lady. Apologized but started making a scene when they had a look at my face”
Something in those sentences felt too familiar “…because you look angry” he couldn’t help how it came more as a statement than a question.
You felt the comment going straight through you.
“I… am scary looking. It happens. I try not to stand out but …” you gestured vaguely at the crowd that was already leaving after the scene had been solved “Anyway, I need to go to school. Thanks again”
Juza watched your back as you left to enter inside the station, a knot forming in his guts.
                                      ............................................
“Everything okay, Juza-kun?”
The purple-haired boy looked up, leaving aside his thoughts “’night, director”
“I saw you a bit disconnected from practice today” Izumi sat next to him in the garden of the dorm. It was a peaceful night. Some crickets sounded in the distance and most people in the dorm were already in their rooms sleeping.
He thought again about you. He had been going around what he could do. But what? He was just a stranger.
“There’s… this person” Juza mused, unsure. He hadn’t even asked for your name “I see them and uh, know they’re a good person but… they said they look intimidatin’ and, dunno, reminded me of my old days”
He scratched his head. It was confusing him why he felt like this. Izumi smiled and leaned against the bench they were sitting.
“So you are saying they are insecure about their looks” Juza nodded and she sighed “…It’s a tough thing, being in peace with oneself. Especially if you get used to receiving a specific type of response from others”
“I don’t know what to tell’em”
Izumi hummed looking at the night sky “Maybe you shouldn’t try forcing anything. Just being there to support them if something happens and listen to their thoughts can be a good start, I think”
Juza frowned. Would it be that easy? “Think’so?
She smiled, turning back to him “That’s what we did with you, right?”
                                  .........................................................
The next day he spotted you, you were looking around with a girl crying next to you.
You had found her alone. Thinking she must have been lost, you crouched down to calm her. The moment she looked at you though, she ran away.
“No, wait!” you ran behind her “You’re going to-!”
The kid fell to the ground, looking around bawling. You raised her unaware of a certain autumn member following you “Shhh… it’s okay” you wiggled her. It wasn’t a success.
“Maika!!”
A man came running to you out of breath and you handed the girl to him “Hi, you should be careful, she was-“
You stopped when you saw the look the father gave you as he hugged her. Was… he scared? Did he believe you had tried something?
“They helped. You should be thankful” you heard Juza’s voice from behind.
“Y-you’re right, I’m sorry” the father bowed nervously and held his daughter.
You didn’t respond as they left.
You looked up at the sky. It was stupid. The girl was safe and you should be happy, not feeling like you were about to cry.
“…I’m sorry,” you whispered. Juza held his breath until you looked back into his gold orbs, sadness swirling “Do you have a minute…? I just…”
Without saying a word, you both walked to the nearest bench and you sat in trance.
As soon as you locked eyes with him, again. Seeing another pair of daunting but soft eyes, similar to what you wished you had, something in your crumbled.
You started talking. Juza heeded about how tired you were, how you had always struggled to be comfortable with your looks, insecure of your intimidating eyes, of the whispers that followed wherever you went, even when you tried your best to do the opposite.
He didn’t say anything, allowing you to release that emotional vent, even if his first instincts were to deny your mean comments. Minutes later, you had finally calmed down.
“I don’t get why you are so kind to me” your hands were now wrapped around the can Juza brought to you at one point.
He pressed his lips.
“…If I told you, I would probably scare you away”
“Please” you scoffed, scrubbing your eyes to get rid of the tears that had started coming out before. Was he kidding? He had been the highlight of the last few days “You could never scare me”
Juza raised his eyebrows, surprised to hear you sounding so confident. His heart felt lighter “Well, neither could you”
You looked at each other in silence before you offered a small, thankful smile.
“I’m Y/N”
“…Juza Hyodo”
