I really liked the progression of Astarion's romance in Act 2 and figure yeah, Aldiirn, my tav, is prolly some shade of ace and prefers this over everyone constantly making passes! But then just as I make another doodle comic about the guy having a freaky little masochist streak... Mizora enters the game. Could not say no -- until the boobies came out and Aldiirn just got outta there after his fill of torment ahahaha

I didn't get any post scene for bailing partway, aside from a narration about the tinge of sulfur, but I still imagine Astarion found out from the funky after taste that night.

He's caught off guard when he first sees it, and he can't help but stare. He's gonna be really curious about it. If you do something like stick your tongue through it he'll think it's funky (pos). It helps him feel more comfortable about showing you his own face, and if you wear a mask he'll offer to make you one of his own.

Luda Mae wouldn't really say anything about it unless you were to do 'inappropriate' things like cause a disrupt at the dinner table doing strange things for entertainment, but she wouldn't actually make fun of you for it or anything.

Hoyt, however, might try. I figure he'd think it was a freaky thing, both cool and gross, and he'll most likely make more than a few comments. He doesn't bully Thomas for his looks, but you're not his nephew so it's pretty much free game in his mind. I don't see him trying to hurt your feelings unless he just dislikes you, though.

...And that's all I can really think of! I have another ask similar to this (not quite so specific) that I'll probably dive more into.

As a squid that can shoot ink and is generally slimy, high gunk. They aren’t super chunky but they do have a bit of a squish to them. Low chunk.

cheavy ramblings

Been thinking about the stinky BLU classic heavy from the comics lately. He's basically the villain of the final issues, and was practically built to be unlikeable from the start so his defeat could be more satisfying; buut since its been years since an update came out and I am slowly going insane, I think it would be funky to explore him more (bonus cmedic feature)

Few disclaimers: I'm not excusing his actions (I myself think hes a bitch) and I do NOT ship him with tf2 medic (also I dont think tf2 medic is unmasked cmedic bc 1)why would he sabotage himself in the issues by acting like That 2)uhh reasons later 3)this panel) also some of my takes aren't original, but I've expanded on em a bit

P1: Medic hater activities

As we all know, cheavy's greatest sin was dunking on + killing tf2 medic

Somehow he and tfc demo got sidetracked by medic's question, but the most hostile he gets towards tf2 medic here is jeering at the fact that they're going to hunt down his old team; which tf2 medic doesn't seem bothered by.

( @number1yisuchongfan actually brought this up before me) This panel pretty much sums up why cheavy is pissed: medic was implied to have a record of being weird with parts (he lost his license bc he stole a man's skeleton), he blew ALL of his budget meant for healing on exotic parts (that he put in cheavy's teammates), AND he revived the enemy (said enemy slips away a few panels later just as cheavy gets informed that three of his mercs died).

(also, the weird p3do tfc scout and soldier arent included in the 'three good men', since they died much later) Speaking of the 'good men' comment-

P2: Good leader at some point?? Not anymore tho

Hes gruff and an ass, but cheavy has a soft spot for his team; the tf2 mercs call each other strictly by their classes, but the tfc ones know each other names (also see cheavy's way of describing his dead teammates and his immediate reaction to go over there rather than curse/assume their incompetence)

He gets curious about australium, and from here on out he gets fixated on it- enough to be more unreasonable than usual. Cheavy is pretty amicable with Bea, and the way he acts with her is probably more in-character for what he was like back in his prime rather than the hot-tempered man that the later panels show.

I mean . He and his team were highly recommended and even took out ALL of the admin's elite teams, leaving the tf2 team for last. He may be a drill sergeant, but I don't think he was a genuine tyrant for most of his career; they aren't purely business-basis with each other (some of them formed close bonds, like fred and virgil), plus- any elite team would be able to capitalize on an overly prideful and control freaky leader (+a constantly demoralized team) sooner.

With three of his mercs dead and his plans failing against a team that he saw as rejects, the mental strain is showing badly. Tfc mercs don't have much personality in their games (or their own comic about them during their prime) but one of the few dynamics mentioned is between the Heavy and the Engineer+Medic. Tfc engie is the one who stepped up to ask about cheavy's plans, and he also gets the brunt of his anger. Earlier, cheavy answered bea's question and encouraged her, but now he's yelling and mocking the capabilities of one of the men he coordinates with the most.

Tfc scout's line may just be him not understanding/underestimating australium (esp since apparently cheavy had to ask grey mann what it even did), but it also reads as him seeing cheavy having officially gone off his rocker; his shaky grasp over leadership might kill the team before being deprived of yellow rocks does. Both scout and engie are thrown off by his attitude, implying that cheavy isn't usually like this (I can't imagine them being coordinated if they all shrimp away like that).

His line of thinking for both of these situations are pretty questionable. For the first one, he knows that the bots extract australium from the body, but he also knows that the mercs likely have nothing in them anyways (note the emphasis on his dead mercs, this is him taking revenge but also he is NAWT going to get any australium for those extra immortality machines which is still a pressing issue for his engie). In the second one, he first tells medic that they'll try figuring out how to stitch the machine on him, which leads to medic stabbing him and cheavy retaliating. Cheavy then goes all the way with attempting to kill him, stating that he'll just gets his answers from the administrator. Its soon revealed that he wants to fight tf2 heavy, but even that is ??? Like cheavy knows that he and his team are old as hell, but he's going to try having a fair fight with a guy in his prime anyways? He didn't even know that he could just slap on the machine at the time, and the unnecessary risk for what seems to be a quest to satisfy his ego is antithetical to his supposed goal of getting the rocks and making his team immortal. At this point, his hatred of medic has completely overridden his rationality; there were many ways for him to have killed both of them, yet he didn't take em.

P3: Cmedic

I saw some posts abt how cheavy is likely coded as homophobic due to how he treats medic (a presumably gay-coded character) bc of the "stay in the kitchen"-esque dialogue, and the way cheavy undermines him in verbal + physical ways. I do not have a very solid defense for this . aside from everything I listed before.

Just to clarify, I think its cheavy's fault for alienating medic from the start: loss of medical license aside, medic's inventions DO work splendidly for healing. Would it have been more concerning since medic is . meant to heal? Maybe. But mercs are literal murderers for hire, personality quirks should be the last of their priorities. The guy is passionate about showing off his stuff, and he was even enthusiastic about getting on the battlefield and healing cheavy. I'm not saying medic was going to be 100% loyal, but he's willing to do his job for the classics as long as he wasn't disrespected so damn much.

The tfc mercs with personalities are ones that oppose their tf2 counterpart; tfc sniper is a sadist rather than a swift professional, tfc pyro is...also a sadist rather than having tf2 pyro's misguided bubbliness, and cheavy does not respect his team's (current) medic. This in conjunction with the complete and utter lack of not just presence but also mention of tfc medic leads to the popular belief that the guy just up and left because of the disrespect.

(Writing inconsistencies be damned I like to cope) so what if it wasn't the case?

These are one of the few lines in tfc that describe a cooperative nature between certain classes. Like I mentioned earlier, tfc has less media compared to tf2 so its easy to slot personalities onto them as villains (tfc sniper's gun blowing people into giblets kinda helps), but I don't think these can be ignored. Fred was the one who represented the rest of the team's opinions to cheavy, and the phrasing in the second pic is even stronger; the heavymedic duo was always a thing, even in tfc.

Sort of. Gameplay-wise, cmedic is more like a roided out scout armed with a medkit that can give enemies and disguised spies tuberculosis, grenades that can send him across the map, and a gun that can destroy sentries (situational). He doesn't need to cling to his more offensive teammates as much as tf2 medic, and while his kit can instantly heal a teammate to full no matter the percentage + give overheal- its strictly melee ranged and has no ubercharge. In a narrative sense, cmedic would most likely oppose tf2 medic as a more 'grounded' healer. He prevents damage to his team by erasing enemies himself, doesn't go too overboard with his biochemical arsenal (his brew is potent but hes stuck with the melee-ranged kit and no crazy mechanic like uber), and can typically run off by himself (provided he isn't jumped by two soldiers or smth). Its a matter of game design, but can translate to the comics in an interesting way.

Medic is the only one who speaks of cmedic, and while the mention itself has no violent reaction- no one else speaks of him. I can't imagine him being easily forgotten since the heavymedic duo is just too iconic, so what if smth exceptionally horrible just happened to him? If cmedic was close to cheavy than everyone else, his loss/disappearance could explain cheavy's immediate dislike for tf2 med; not only replacing his own med, but with the complete opposite in terms of personality as well.

(I could expand on cmedic more, but this post is already long enough as is so I'll probably just make a separate one gah)

Sci-fi books are rare in school even though they help kids better understand science

Science fiction can lead people to be more cautious about the potential consequences of innovations. It can help people think critically about the ethics of science. Researchers have also found that sci-fi serves as a positive influence on how people view science. Science fiction scholar Istvan Csicsery-Ronay calls this “science-fictional habits of mind.”

Scientists and engineers have reported that their childhood encounters with science fiction framed their thinking about the sciences. Thinking critically about science and technology is an important part of education in STEM – or science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Complicated content?

Despite the potential benefits of an early introduction to science fiction, my own research on science fiction for readers under age 12 has revealed that librarians and teachers in elementary schools treat science fiction as a genre that works best for certain cases, like reluctant readers or kids who like what they called “weird,” “freaky” or “funky” books.

Of the 59 elementary teachers and librarians whom I surveyed, almost a quarter of them identified themselves as science fiction fans, and nearly all of them expressed that science fiction is just as valuable as any other genre. Nevertheless, most of them indicated that while they recommend science fiction books to individual readers, they do not choose science fiction for activities or group readings.

The teachers and librarians explained that they saw two related problems with science fiction for their youngest readers: low availability and complicated content.

Why sci-fi books are scarce in schools

Several respondents said that there simply are not as many science fiction books available for elementary school students. To investigate further, I counted the number of science fiction books available in 10 randomly selected elementary school libraries from across the United States. Only 3% of the books in each library were science fiction. The rest of the books were: 49% nonfiction, 25% fantasy, 19% realistic fiction and 5% historical fiction. While historical fiction also seems to be in low supply, science fiction stands out as the smallest group.

When I spoke to a small publisher and several authors, they confirmed that science fiction for young readers is not considered a profitable genre, and so those books are rarely acquired. Due to the perception that many young readers do not like science fiction, it is not written, published and distributed as often.

With fewer books to choose from, the teachers and librarians said that they have difficulty finding options that are not too long and complicated for group readings. One explained: “I have to appeal to broad ability levels in chapter book read-aloud selections. These books typically have to be shorter, with more simple plots.” Another respondent explained that they believe “the kind of suppositions sci-fi is based on to be difficult for younger children to grasp. We do read some sci-fi in our middle grade book club.”

A question of maturity

Waiting for students to get older before introducing them to science fiction is a fairly common approach. Susan Fichtelberg – a longtime librarian – wrote a guide to teen fantasy and science fiction. In it, she recommends age 12 as the prime time to start. Other children’s literature experts have speculated whether children under 12 have sufficient knowledge to comprehend science fiction.

Reading researchers agree that comprehending complex texts is easier when the reader has more background knowledge. Yet, when I read some science fiction picture books with elementary school students, none of the children struggled to understand the stories. The most active child in my study often used his knowledge of “Star Wars” to interpret the books. While background knowledge can mean children’s knowledge of science, it also includes exposure to a genre. The more a reader is exposed to science fiction stories, the better they understand how to read them.

A matter of choice

Science fiction does not need to include detailed science or outlandish premises to offer valuable ideas. Simple picture books like “Farm Fresh Cats” by Scott Santoro rely on familiar ideas like farms and cats to help readers reconsider what is familiar and what is alien. “The Barnabus Project” by the Fan Brothers is both a simple escape adventure story and a story about the ethics of genetic experimentation on animals.

The good news is that elementary school students are choosing science fiction regardless of what adults might think they can or cannot understand. I found that the science fiction books in those 10 elementary school libraries were checked out at a higher rate per book than all of the other genres. Science fiction had 1-2 more checkouts per book, on average, than the other genres.

Using the lending data from these libraries, I built a statistical model that predicted that it is 58% more likely for one of the science fiction books to be checked out in these libraries than one of the fantasy books. The model predicted that a science fiction book is over twice as likely to be checked out than books in any of the other genres. In other words, since the children did not have nearly as many science fiction books to choose from, their readership was heavily concentrated on a few titles.

Children may discover science fiction on their own, but adults can do more to normalize the genre and provide opportunities for whole classes to become familiar with it. Encouraging children to explore science fiction may not guarantee science careers, but children deserve to learn from science fiction to help them navigate their increasingly high-tech world.

the little yellow bits on the end of the puffy sleeves and skirt are supposed to look like sea foam, but idk if it came across as that obvious

the vest is like this muddy gray mixed with greens and blues and imo, looks just like seawater (it was originally supposed to be a light peach so it looks like sand but then i fucked up and made it gray. whoops.)

i tried my best to make the hair look like its floating underwater, almost as if the head IS underwater

why's the skirt cut like that? shoreline. those things are funky and freaky and downright wacky so i felt like the cut being a bit diagonal could emulate that even more

ik the og posts said that her head is blue, but i really wanted to stick with the idea of the head just being like fully dead and then stuck on to the rest of the body thats still semi-alive

scales. i have no excuse i just think theyre pretty and bring everything together. also note the desaturated hands! i just thought it was a nice touch

it did hurt my soul a little when i couldnt do the usual bright pink facial blushes i usually give my characters due to the 'oh thats the head of a corpse' thing, but i guess the fun hair made up for it

In my early morning, i was reviewing some pages of your comic in addition to your previous posts and now I saw it. (again) The Funky Friday comic is set after the Security breach, so which ending is canonical in the comic? And did you change the ending after the DLC or do you intend to say if the DLC takes place before or after the comic?

First off, nice little drawing of Freddy! Very cute :)

Second, while I'm still writing the script (it's pretty far ahead from what the comic is right now), I intended for the Freaky Friday AU to take place after SB, possibly in an altered Savior Ending where Freddy doesn't get destroyed, they save Vanessa, and restore everyone and the Pizzaplex.

The Ruin DLC doesn't occur since the Pizzaplex is restored, but elements from the dlc will show up (characters and one minor thing). Maybe a little reference or two to add to the story.

and uhm, i don't know! i wouldn't say they're inspired by anything in particular, just their personalities and skins and overall vibes and existing community designs i guess? <:D

like, grian is chaotic and small but he's also a nerd and a builder, and he can be very creepy when he wants to and he's strong, and he's also a creechur. that's why i draw him like a little guy with messy hair, cartoonish empty black eyes, muzzle-like face, no ears, etc... (originally he had small feathery ears, but i ditched them because birds don't have visible ears and i wanted to be special like that) tbh i wouldn't really call my grian design unique? but, uh, i guess? grian is so grian no matter at whose design you're looking, i don't know how to explain it

tango is slightly different in that matter because i started properly watching him only in season 8, when big eyes crew were a thing, and i drew him with big bug eyes and really liked it so now he's like that forever. but overall, tango is a menace, he's unhinged and funky, he's a redstone nerd and genius, he's a mastermind but he's also incredibly stupid and i love him very much in case you couldn't tell. tango also doesn't like being drawn with horns (presumably because they make him look evil, but don't quote me on that i don't remember), so i tried to make him look more kind and silly than anything. this is also why i don't draw tango with fire theme that often. and his hair is messy but its still sort of taken care of and brushed back (also the shape of his head is like-- peak character design for me, i have i think 3 or 4 more designs with this same exact shape). and his outfit is weird and i draw it slightly differently every time because i can't be bothered... tango also has all my favorite things combined in his designs because i love him. like, pointy teeth, weird muzzle, lots of hands (sometimes), freaky eyes, no ears, gloves or wristbands, tech outfits.... u_u

Im so happy that most of you guys in the SvS fandom loved my little funky spy plushie creature and I really appreciate that! I was honestly scared of posting this but I really wanted to draw this cause I had this idea for such a very long time since I was 13, and I thought it would be stupid and cringey. Because back when I was super into MAD and Spy vs Spy in the early 2010’s I thought of a horror fanfic idea of this creepy-doll themed AU I thought of where the spies became these living plush toys that after got killed in an accident, they forgotten who they where but instead of enemies they would become lovers that would go out and kill people during nightime together. Yeah… It sounds cringey but I actully wrote a fanfic like that a few years ago on fanfiction.net. But I deleted it because I felt like this idea was too cringey to make.

Im a fan of creepy dolls and evil stuffed toys in stories, And I know it’s weird for me to think of this creepy-doll AU of the spies. But because I got into this whole Spy x Spy ship at the time this idea popped into my mind while thinking about plushie spies that I kept dreaming about this for years oddly enough.. Even to this day and for some strange reason it makes me cry everytime I think of this creepy-plushie spies idea. I don’t know why! Don’t ask me! But then after looking trough my Spy vs Spy ombinus book and seeing that picture of that one comic featuring grey where she was carrying the spies cut up and seen together in the wrong bodies I thought of… What if instead of being just two seperate bodies they would end up as one? And that’s how I came up with that drawing idea of creating that singilar half-black half-white spy plushie creature!

Now I know im not the only one who drew a half-black half-white Spy vs Spy character! There are other artist who made half spies. A great example and another inspiration to this idea is an deviantart artist I follow named VonderDevil, who made this freaky but amazing half-black/half-white monster for a SvS horror game idea he thought of and called this monster “The Crooked Spy” and my god, I LOVE her scary but cool monster design! >:3 (Highly reccomend watching her! Really great artist! And make really great Spy vs Spy fanart! ^ ^)

But you know after thinking about this I don’t know if I should make this an AU or just make this character just an OC not related to the real black and white spies. Like I said I was a bit nervous posting this art. But after seeing the likes, and even reblogs Im glad I posted my little character idea! Thank you all so much!! 🖤🤍
