So @its-just-a-phage sent me some art of a character I wasn't familiar with catching a fish with his mouth. He thought it was my blorbo, but unfortunately not all feral blonde men are Deidara. However once the idea was planted in my mind I couldn't NOT draw Deidara catching a fish with his mouth.

I shared the first doodle with some other friends, and @solarfox6 said I should draw him with a fish in EACH of his mouths. And like... I couldn't NOT do that either??

I mentioned it to @pleasedontstealmysoul and SHE said "do it no balls". And like... I couldn't NOT include that somehow either???

So now here we are...

Parallel Play Week 2024 Day 2 - Vulnerable

On the night of a new moon, Inuyasha can finally get some sleep knowing he has a strong, capable warrior to keep watch. It takes him a while to become fully comfortable with it - his pride is a big sticking point - but eventually he trusts Deidara to protect him on the nights when he's vulnerable. Meanwhile Deidara doesn't mind pulling an all-nighter once a month (especially since Inuyasha often chooses to stay up with him anyway).

Fun fact I had to draw Deidara twice because the first time I realized the way he was sitting made Inuyasha look like he was floating rather than lying with his head in Deidara's lap. I didn't even redo the sketch, I just freehanded it with a mouse in CSP using the object tool. So that was fun!

Parallel Play Week 2024

Day 1 - Fairytales

Woe, Parallel Play Week 2024 be upon ye! (For those uninitiated this is when I borrow the prompts of another ship week and play alongside them with my own blorbos because there's no one who will do a ship week with my obscure crossover ship and sometimes it's just nice to feel like a part of something. I will sit quietly in my corner and not disturb the ship week tags though.)

I searched for a bunch of different cultural fairytales that might have fit this prompt, but in the end I succumbed to my baser desires and made a Transistor AU, so it's more "Fiction" than "Fairytale."

I imagine the Akatsuki being the Camerata in this AU. Itachi is obviously Royce Bracket, Pain and Konan I think make a decent Grant and Asher Kendrell, and it would be really interesting for Sasori to be Sybil Reisz. You can insert any ship thoughts you would like in there, but I think he's the Akatsuki member most suited to being a flying multi-armed glitch monster.

Parallel Play Week 2024 Day 3 - Rockstar

Deidara and Inuyasha can be rock stars together. Inuyasha isn't really in full demon mode, Deidara just does his makeup like that before every performance. This is also the one and only time Deidara is allowed to wear fishnets instead of chain mail.

Though I will concede that @courtdraws is fundamentally correct that Deidara would be a drummer, not a bassist, I needed him to play an instrument that would let him pose cool with Inuyasha, so bass it is.

I also based Deidara's bass on my own bass, so that was fun.

Parallel Play Week 2024 Day 7 - Hot Spring

Deidara hadn't been to many hot springs in his former life - war criminals were probably discouraged as a general rule, and making oneself so vulnerable as a missing-nin isn't particularly wise. Away from his home time - hundreds of years in the past, in fact - Deidara can finally visit hot springs freely with his partner. Inuyasha doesn't quite understand the hype, but he knows Deidara enjoys them, so he makes an effort to squeeze in a trip to a hot spring every couple full moons or so.

I did the original sketch for this one almost a year ago on a 3"x5" sketchpad. Hopefully this version has made some improvements on the original design.

Parallel Play Week 2024 Day 4 - Obsession

I wanted to make a joke about how some dogs are obsessed with the scent of Irish Spring soap, and what happens when Deidara accidentally borrows the wrong bar of soap from Kagome's house (turns out it was one of Sota's and he's going through his teenage too-much-body-spray phase). Deidara's about to have one very clingy hanyo on his hands and just about everywhere else.

This is the one piece this week I'm not completely happy with, but they can't all be winners I guess.

Parallel Play Week 2024 Day 6 - Touch-Starved

Neither of them seem like they'd be the cuddliest people when you first meet them, but at the end of a long day, neither Inuyasha nor Deidara want anything more than to curl up with one another in bed and fall asleep in each other's arms. For being a pair of tough-as-nails demon hunters with hot tempers and smart mouths, they're both still very touch-starved, and find it easiest to sleep at night when they're as close as possible.

InuDei Parallel Play Week 2023 Day 7 - Merfolk

Way back in 2010 I wrote a merfolk AU for these two (please do not go looking for it) in which Deidara is a ningyo (merman) and Inuyasha saves him from being caught on an anchor and beached on the shore. Later Deidara returns the favor when Inuyasha gets stung with deadly lionfish venom (by another ningyo), and swims him to shore to treat the poison. Then they fall in love, obviously. While I’m deep in my nostalgia brainworms, I couldn’t resist making this prompt a direct reference to that old AU.

I don't know that this one warrants any explanation, but I'm gonna give it anyway. New moons are the one night a month when Inuyasha is human, but that also means it's the one night a month that his muscles aren't wrought iron, so he gets extra special treatment from Deidara on the night of a new moon. Not to let things go unbalanced however, full moons became the night when Deidara's the one getting the extra special treatment. This year the full moon falls on Deidara's birthday, so you know he's getting the works tonight!

I had more art I wanted to do for this; another full sketch with background and everything plus like some other nebulous ideas floating around. They may percolate through my system at some point but for now this is what I've got for you.

InuDei Parallel Play Week 2023 Day 5 - Photography

More modern times shenanigans. I really loved the idea of them getting pictures in a photo booth and I went with the most cliche possible sequence. Deidara has pulled the bandanna off Inuyasha in that last shot but I couldn't come up with a way to show that that didn't just clutter the picture up more. It's somewhere behind them.
