Three B-2 Spirit bombers returned for the first Red Flag exercise of 2024 at Nellis Air Base, Nevada, this week, alongside the Eurofighters Typhoon of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the F-35A of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
More than 30 units and 2,000 military personnel participate in air combat training, considered by the participating allies as one of the "most advanced" and "most difficult" training opportunities in the world.

The exercise began on January 15 and will incorporate realistic and sophisticated combat scenarios until January 26.
Tumblr media
The B-2 Spirits will focus on increasing interoperability, training against scenarios involving a contested, degraded and operationally limited environment, said 2ª Ten Lindsey A. Weichel from the 509ª Bomber Wing.
Tumblr media
The stealth bombers, usually a regular presence on the Red Flag in recent years, did not fly in the first edition of last year's Red Flag due to a safety impasse - although the exercise virtually simulated the aircraft and crew members participated. The B-2 finally returned to the Red Flag-Alaska 23-3, flying deep into the Arctic Circle in August 2023.
This Red Flag 24-1 exercise in Nellis will also involve:
USAF F-35 Lightning II
USAF F-22 Raptors
RAF FGR-4 Typhoons
RAAF F-35As
EA-18G U.S. Navy Growlers

"Training prioritizes first-time combat missions, mission commander updates, integration and signaling of unique experiences that most contribute to readiness and partnership," Colonel Eric Winterbottom, commander of the 414º Combat Training Squadron, said in a statement.
Tumblr media
He added that this training is vital for aviators to operate independently to strengthen the resilience and survivability of the mission.

Almost 100 aircraft depart from the base twice a day, some of them remaining in the air for up to five hours. The training will see night launches to also simulate night combat operations.
This iteration also marks the first participation of Australian F-35As since RAAF joined the exercise since 1980.

"The Red Flag Nellis exercise will test all facets of our F-35A capability, allow us to integrate with our American and British allies and practice how we project force in combat operations." Wing Commander Adrian Kiely, Commander of Squadron Nº 3 of the RAAF, said in a statement.
Tumblr media
Founded in 1975, the Red Flag was initially designed to intensively train U.S. Air Force pilots on air combat missions, drawing lessons from the Vietnam War. With the Pentagon focusing on China, the exercise changed to expand over the Pacific.

This year's edition is aligned with the 2022 National Defense Strategy and focuses on deterring aggression, addressing the challenges in the Indo-Pacific and Europe, and building a joint force.
Tumblr media
There are usually three Red Flag exercises per year: a U.S.-only session, one open to Five Eyes nations (UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand) and another that includes a broader list of global allies.

FLIGHTLINE: 170 - MITSUBISHI F-2
Developed from the Lockheed F-16, the F-2 is a multirole aircraft in the Japanese Air Self-Defense force, replacing the Mitsubishi F-1 in the 1980s.
In the early 1970s the JASDF began acquiring the F-1 ground attack/anti-shipping aircraft based on the Mitsubishi T-2 supersonic trainer. The F-1 served Japan well through rest of the 1970s, but by 1981 a replacement was being contemplated, with a formal study being initiated in 1985. The Japanese government, defense agencies and contractors were all highly desirous of the new aircraft being designed and built domestically in order to grow the Japanese aviation industry. US officials, meanwhile, became concerned that an internally designed and manufactured aircraft could be of inferior quality, and might in fact damage US-Japan relations. A co-produced, or at least co-developed, alternative based on the American F-16 or F/A-18 were proposed by the Pentagon instead; pressure against Japan for this bilateral development project increased as mid-80s 'Japan-bashing' peaked with the Toshiba-Kongsberg Scandal, in which it was discovered that Toshiba sold propeller milling machinery to the Soviet Union in violation of sanctions. After months of negotiations, a joint project to develop and produce the new aircraft was announced by the Regan and Nakasone administrations. Later revisions to the MOU restricted Japanese access to flight and weapons control software and ensured that any new technology developed during the project was shared with the US.
AGILE FALCONS, INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
One of the variants of the F-16 explored but not produced was the so-called "Agile Falcon", which would have had had a larger wing, more powerful engines, as well as extensive avionics upgrades, color displays, an electronic warfare management system, reconnaissance pods, AIM-9X Sidewinder infrared air-to-air missile integration, and helmet-mounted sights. The aircraft was offered to the USAF as a low-cost alternative to the ATF program, as well as to NATO allies as a competitor to the SAAB Gripen or Dassault Rafale, but there was no interest in the plane. General Dynamics resurrected the idea as a starting point for the new JASDF strike fighter, variously designated FS-X or SX-3. The basic wing and fuselage designs remained the same, but the engines and avionics were updated and Japanese-made components were substituted whenever possible. Costs for the FS-X were split 60/40 between Japan and the US. In 1992 General Dynamics' aviation division was sold to Lockheed, making the latter company the prime US contractor. Lockheed Martin supplied the aft fuselage, leading-edge slats, stores management system, a large percentage of wingboxes, and other components. Kawasaki built the midsection of the fuselage, as well as the doors to the main wheel and the engine, while the forward fuselage and wings were built by Mitsubishi. Some of the avionics were supplied by Lockheed Martin, and the digital fly-by-wire system was jointly developed by Japan Aviation Electric and Honeywell (formerly Allied Signal). Contractors for communication systems and IFF interrogators included Raytheon, NEC, Hazeltine, and Kokusai Electric. The fire control radar, IRS, the mission computer, and the EW system were developed by Japan. In addition, the flight control computer, the flight control laws and related computer software were essentially all developed and integrated by Japan. Final assembly was done in Japan, by MHI at its Komaki-South facility in Nagoya.

DESIGN AND SPECIFICATIONS
Although based on the F-16, more than 95% of the Falcon's engineering drawings were changed for the F-2. The wings of the new plane were 25% larger, with thee skin, spars, ribs and wing caps were made from graphite/epoxy composite in order to cut down on weight. In addition to the larger wing and tail, the nose is longer and wider to accommodate the J/APG-1 active electronically scanned radar (AESA) (the F-2 was the first operational military aircraft to carry one, beating the F-22 Raptor). The intake was also enlarged, feeding more air into a GE F110 turbofan. The F-16's single piece bubble canopy was changed to a three piece unit. The F-2 is equipped with a drogue parachute, similar to one fitted to certain export models of the F-16. Given its multi-mission role within the JASDF, the F-2 is capable of carrying four ASM-1 or -2 anti-ship missiles, free-fall bombs (with or without imaging infra-red seekers), JDAM bombs, JLAU-3/A rocket pods, and AAM-3, -4, -5, AIM-9 or AIM-7 air-to-air missiles. FLIR and Sniper laser-designation pods can also be fitted. A 20mm cannon is also carried.
Two models of the F-2 have been produced, the F-2A single seat model and the F-2B trainer, though both are the same dimensions. F-2s are 15.52m long, with a wingspan of 11.125m (10.8m not counting wingtip missile rails) and the wing has an area of 34.84m2. Max TO weight is 22,100kg, including 4,600l of fuel (just less than 4,000l for the F-2B). Combat range of the F-2 is 833km, increasable with drop tanks or aerial refueling. Maximum speed of the F-2 is Mach 1.7 at high altitude, and max ceiling is 18,000m.

PRODUCTION AND INTRODUCTION
Maiden flight of the F-2 was on 7 October 1995, with four prototypes and two static test airframes completed. An initial order for 141 aircraft was signed in 1995, but this was later cut to 130, with deliveries completed by 1999. Structural deficiencies in the prototypes delayed introduction until 2000. During this time, the order was cut again, down to 98 aircraft (including the four prototypes). The last F-2 was delivered on 27 September 2011, at which point Mitsubishi closed the line. F-2s were delivered to five squadrons or groups within the JASDF, the first being the Air Development and Test Wing at Gifu AB.

Training is conducted by the 21st Fighter Training Squadron, 4th Air Wing, at Matsushima AB. As a result of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, 13 of the 21 F-2Bs assigned to the 21st were damaged, and 5 destroyed. Repairs to the F-2s was completed by 2016, and was estimated at 80 billion JPY. Two other F-2Bs have been destroyed in accidents, one in 2007 as a result of faulty wiring after a refurbishment and a second in 2019 for reasons that have not been released.

There are three operational units of the F-2A: the 3rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, 3rd Air Wing at Misawa AB, and the 6th and 8th TFS, 8th Wing at Tsuiki AB. In addition to strike missions, the F-2 has proved to be adept at interception and escort missions, as the JASDF proved in 2013 when 4 F-2s were scrambled to intercept a pair of Russian Air Force Su-27s near Hokkaido on 7 February 2013. On 22 August 2013 F-2s were again scrambled to intercept two Tu-142 Bear-F aircraft near Kyushu.

THE FUTURE
The F-2 is scheduled to be replaced by the Mitsubishi F-X (unofficially known as the F-3 Godzilla) some time in the mid-2030. The F-X will be a sixth generation, domestically developed stealth aircraft, currently anticipated to have its maiden flight in 2028.

24 Ways to Reclaim Peace of Mind
Victor M. Parachin
It is not an understatement to say that these are stressful times. Almost routinely there are news reports that further heighten our anxieties-airport security is lax; the country is vulnerable to chemical, biological, and even nuclear attacks; our water can be poisoned and our food contaminated; sleeper terrorists are in our midst. The litany of dangers can unnerve even the strongest, most optimistic person. In spite of challenging times, it is possible to be a person who lives with serenity and tranquillity. Here are two dozen ways to reclaim your peace of mind.
1. Focus on what you can control.
Rather than obsess about terrorism and lack of security, focus on life- and health-saving behaviors that you can control. Exercise to keep your body healthy and strong. Wear a seat belt when driving, or a helmet when bike riding. Install smoke alarms. Apply sunscreens and get regular physicals. For areas of life that are beyond your control, place your focus on God. Join with the psalm writer who prayed, “My times are in your hands” (Psalm 31:15).*
2. Cultivate the “symptoms” of inner peace.
Inevitably, people who experience peace and serenity have some of the following characteristics of inner peace: a loss of interest in judging others; limited ability to worry; overwhelming episodes of appreciation; frequent attacks of smiling; feeling connected to others and with self; increased openness to receive love as well as an uncontrollable urge to extend it; a loss of interest in conflict and argumentation. Be guided by some wisdom from the apostle Paul: “The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).
3. Maintain perspective.
Often it is the loss of balance and perspective about life that increases stress and anxiety. Adopt the attitude that your cup is half full, not half empty. Consider this insight from Stephen Hawking, a world-renowned physicist. He is also imprisoned inside a body made helpless by ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Although he could have ample reason to feel sorry for himself, Hawking does not. Often he reflects on a young man he met while he was hospitalized: “I had seen a boy . . . die of leukemia in the bed opposite me. It had not been a pretty sight. Clearly, there were people who were worse off than me. At least my condition didn’t make me feel sick. Whenever I feel inclined to be sorry for myself, I remember that boy.”
4. Express gratitude.
The Bible instructs us to “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thess-alonians 5:18). Take that advice to heart. Alexander Whyte of Edinburgh was famous for his pulpit prayers. He always found something to thank God for, even in bad times. One stormy morning a member of his congregation thought to himself, The preacher will have nothing to thank God for on a wretched morning like this. However, Whyte began his prayer: “We thank Thee, O God, that it is not always like this.”
5. Adopt the “as if” principle.
The late French actor Maurice Chevalier was once asked how he managed to be so cheerful. The entertainer admitted that even though he invariably appeared to be cheerful, he didn’t always feel that way. This was his last approach: “When I sense an audience responding to the gaiety I am trying to give out, I feel gaiety coming back to me. It is like a boomerang–a little blessed boomer-ang. This works not only for the performer. It is a good game anybody can play.
“A man goes to his office,” Chevalier continued. “He is grumpy, growls a greeting to his secretary. She may have awakened spirited and jaunty, but right away the ugliness is contagious. Or in reverse, he comes in whistling. Maybe he has picked a flower from his garden for his buttonhole. He extends a merry greeting. It boomerangs. The office brightens.” The lesson: even if you don’t feel joyful at the moment, act as if you are and exude joy toward those with whom you have contact. The joy you give out will be the joy that returns to you.
6. Life in the present.
“Let us not look back in anger, nor forward in fear, but around in awareness,” declared writer James Thurber.
7. Be kind.
Live by the same philosophy that guided William Penn, founder of the state of Pennsylvania. “I expect to pass through this world but once,” he wrote. “Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
8. Try to make your world a better place.
Be guided by this wisdom from Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets: “I believe in taking a positive attitude toward the world. . . . My hope still is to leave the world a little bit better than when I got here.”
9. Ask God for inner peace.
Adopt the spiritual style of the apostle Paul, who prayed, “May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way” (2 Thessalonians 3:16). Personalize Paul’s prayer for yourself: May the Lord of peace Himself give me peace at all times and in every way.
10. Walk in the light.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that,” observed Martin Luther King, Jr. Be a person who lives and walks in the light.
11. Get back to nature.
Most people discover that spending time in the outdoors is a remedy for almost any soul sickness. Take advantage of this natural therapy by gardening, hiking, mountain climbing, or simply taking a leisurely stroll through a nearby park.
12. Practice self-care.
Your ability to deal with stress increases as you take care of yourself. Do this by eating nutritious, balanced meals, by exercising, and by getting enough sleep.
13. Smell serenity.
Take a walk through a grove of pine trees or light a candle that smells like cedar. Stimulating the olfactory senses can be a real spirit soother.
14. Believe in truth and love.
Consider this wisdom from Gandhi: “‘When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it, always.”
15. Get a daily dose of vitamin “H.”
Humor lightens the load of life and reduces anxieties. Buy a joke book and read it regularly, or check out the many humor sites on the Internet to get a laugh daily.
16. Finish what you start.
A great deal of satisfaction and contentment in life results from completing challenging and arduous tasks. John Stephen Akhwari of Tanzania is sometimes described as “the greatest last-place finisher.” This unique description was given to him in 1968 while in Mexico City competing in the Olympics. Out of the cold darkness Akhwari entered the far end of the stadium, pain hobbling his every step. His leg was bloody and bandaged. The winner of the Olympic marathon had been declared more than an hour ear-lier. Only a few spectators remained. But the lone runner pressed on. As he crossed the finish line, the small crowd roared out its appreciation. Afterward a reporter asked the runner why he had not retired from the race, since he had no chance of winning. He seemed confused by the question. Finally he answered: “My country did not send me to Mexico City to start the race. They sent me to finish.”
17. Moonlight.
Go out on a cloudless night. Gaze at the moon. Use your mind to picture a river of moonlight. Imagine loading your anxieties and concerns into a gondola, and letting them float all the stresses away.
18. Maintain personal integrity.
Duplicity is stressful. Avoid that trip. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. Exemplify the values you profess to admire.
19. Remember that attitudes are more important than facts.
Television personality Hugh Downs observes: “A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.”
20. Forgive generously.
When you have been slighted, of-fended, or insulted, train yourself to forgive quickly and generously. Rehearsing wrongs and reviewing retribution can be tiresome burdens to carry. Let go of resentment and relinquish the need of retribution. In so doing, you will discover the weight of anger and hostility is lifted out of your life.
21. Simplify your life.
You don’t need to have what “everyone” else has in order to enjoy life. Trying to keep up with others can break you financially and emotionally. Consider Alay Desai, who is an executive in the Silicon Valley. Despite his large salary and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business, he returns home each evening to a one-bedroom apartment furnished only with history books and a used TV. He and his wife, Nilima, sleep on the floor on a comforter and two pillows. They drive a 10-year-old Chevy Nova. “I don’t need all those laptops and cell phones and Palm Pilots. I don’t need a BMW or a dream home full of tech toys,” he says.
22. Just say no!
You don’t have to do everything. You don’t have to agree to accept every request that comes your way. “No, thank you” can be the three-word sentence that gives you a less hectic schedule and more peace of mind.
23. Make mealtimes peaceful.
Never eat standing up. Don’t wolf your food down. Pace yourself at mealtime. Sit down to a table carefully set with china and silverware. Light a candle. Decorate a table with a floral arrangement. Offer a prayer of thanks for the meal. Eat carefully and consciously.
24. Know what’s important in life.
Don’t get caught up in chasing after superficial goals such as materialism, wealth, or success. Such a chase can become emotionally exhausting. Live by principles that are deeper and produce contentment with life. Tip O’Neill, the late congressman and former Speaker of the House, said some of the best advice he ever received was from his mentor, Boston politician James Michael Curley. Recalled O’Neill, “He said, `Son, it’s nice to be important. But remember, it’s more important to be nice.’ “

Background:
Rhythmic gymnastics is a women-only event in which gymnasts perform on a floor with a rope, hoop, ball, clubs or ribbon accompanied by music, in individual or group events. In the 1800s rhythmic gymnastics operated under the guise of group gymnastics, and included a trace of elementary choreography. It grew slowly until the first experimental competitions appeared in eastern Europe in the 1930s, when its newfound complexity began to draw a wider audience. Rhythmic gymnastics evolved from a host of related disciplines. It incorporates elements from classical ballet, such as pliés and arabesques, as well as the German system of emphasizing apparatus work for muscle development and the Swedish method of using free exercise to develop rhythm. The FIG recognized rhythmic gymnastics as an official discipline in 1963, and a year later organized an international tournament in Budapest. In 1964 the tournament was officially declared the first Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, and Ludmila Savinkova of the Soviet Union became the first world champion. The number of athletes grew as interest spread to other parts of the world. Gymnasts from the United States first appeared at the championships in 1973, and rhythmic gymnastics slowly emerged from the shadow of the long-established artistic discipline to enter the Olympic program in 1984. Since its integration into the Games in 1984 in Los Angeles, rhythmic gymnastics has always been a part of the Olympic program. In its inaugural year, it was Canada’s Lori Fung who won the gold medal. Until 1992 in Barcelona, only one individual event was on the program. A second, team event was added to the program in 1996 in Atlanta. At the 2000 Games in Sydney, the Russian Federation won two gold medals: the group and individual multiple competitions.
Court Dimension:
The standard performance is 13m x 13m. The border is 100cm minimum and where there is a delimitation strip between the performance area and the border, the strip is 5cm wide and included as part of the performance area. An Olympic floor exercise mat is required to be 12 meters by 12 meters, which equals 39.37 feet by 39.37 feet. The standard distance from one corner to the opposite corner is 1,697 cm or 55.68 feet.
Equipment:
Rope
Look for swings, circles, rotations, wraps, unwraps, figure-eight-type circling movements, throws and catches of the rope. Gymnasts also leap and jump through the open or folded rope, held by both hands.
Specs:
Material: hemp or synthetic material, knotted at each end
Length: proportionate to the size of the gymnast
Hoop
Common movements with the hoop include swings, rolls, tosses and catches, spins, passes through and over the hoop, rotations of the hoop on the floor and rotations of the hoop around the hand and other parts of the body. Most impressive here are the high throws and complex techniques for catching the hoop in a different fashion each time.
Specs:
Material: wood or plastic
Diameter: Interior is 80-90 cm (31.2-35.1 in)
Weight: 300 grams (10.5 oz) min.
Ball
Waves, circles, throws and catches, movement with the ball balanced on the hand, bouncing and rolling the ball on the floor and along parts of the body are all key movements.
Specs:
Material: rubber or synthetic material
Diameter: 18-20 cm (7-7.8 in)
Weight: 400 grams (14 oz.) min.
Clubs
Swings, large circles, small circles, mills, throws and catches and rhythmical tapping are common tricks.
Specs:
Material: wood or synthetic material
Length: 40-50 cm (15.6-19.5 in.)
Diameter: 3 cm (1.2 in) max. for head of club

Group
In the group event, five athletes work together as one cohesive unit. Group is judged on the ability of the athletes to demonstrate mastery of body and apparatus skills in a synchronized, harmonious manner. A group exercise must include difficulties from the same body movement categories that apply to individual competition and characteristic movements for the apparatus. In addition, the group athletes must execute elements involving both large and small exchanges of equipment. The more interaction between the gymnasts, the better the exercise. Each group must compete with two different routines. The apparatus used in group competition is selected by the FIG. One of the routines is performed with five of the same pieces of apparatus, the other routine is choreographed with mixed equipment. Group athletes are trained to work as a team. The close interaction of five athletes within a 13 X 13 meter (approx. 42.5 ft. square) area and the many apparatus exchanges that occur during a routine require each athlete to be extremely sensitive to the movements and actions of her teammates. Many routines have been saved by the quick thinking and action of a team member. Spectators are enthralled and amazed by the beauty, excitement and risk of a group routine.
  Basic Skills:
Fundamental requirements include leaps over the rope and skipping. Other elements include swings, throws, circles, rotations and figures of eight. The rope must be held lightly so that all movements and characteristics of this apparatus may be performed. These may be performed with the rope open, or folded, in one or two hands, or in several directions. Women compete on four events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, while men compete on six events: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar. Basic skills required for the gymnast are flexibility, core strength, balance, upper and lower-body strength, power, mental focus, discipline, and dedication.
 Technical and Tactical Skills:
Fundamental elements of throwing, bouncing and rolling, where a gymnast is required to utilize the full floor and both their hands, showing a continuous flowing movement. These skills involve the following; Floor, Rolling Skills, Cartwheel, Round off and Handstand; Parallel bars, Swings through upper arm hang, Swings through support, Back roll, Shoulder stand.

Ice, Ice Baby
What you can learn from legendary World & Olympic ice dance champion Tessa Virtue
November 8, 2019

You might think it’s been an easy road to the top for Canadian ice dancer Tessa Virtue – she’s beautiful, talented, graceful and poised. But she’s the first to admit her life isn’t perfect.
Off the ice she says she’s incredibly clumsy and gets motion sickness from things like elevators and sometimes, even from the lifts she did with partner Scott Moir. And she’s faced injuries, disappointment and frustration along her journey to success.
But you don’t get to the top without finding a way through these minefields and learning how to overcome them is what made her a champion.

Ice skating is a metaphor for life: you push off, fall, get up and try again. No one knows this better than an Olympic ice dance champion like Tessa Virtue. But after 22 years on the ice, she’s ready to tackle some new challenges.
“We’d ticked all the boxes in the skating world and wanted to move on while we still felt passionate about skating,” Virtue says of her and partner Moir. “It just feels like the right time.”
This fall, Virtue and Moir have been on a goodbye tour across Canada called Rock the Rink and on Nov. 23 they’ll give their last public performance in St. John’s.
Virtue says while she’s grateful for what she’s achieved, she’s ready to step out of the skating world and start another chapter of her life.
“It’s time to start filling in the gaps with things I couldn’t do because of skating,” she says. “I have an entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve been my own boss as a skater and I’m looking forward to navigating the business world.”
Virtue is currently completing an undergraduate degree in psychology and will then be pursuing an executive MBA at Queen’s University. She’s already stepped part-way into the business world, working with several sponsors and taking on a number of collaborative opportunities. In addition, she plans to continue her work as a mentor with FitSpirit, to inspire young female athletes to stay in sport.
Letting go and moving on
Facing the end of such an integral part of her life hasn’t been easy. And once the duo decided to step down from competition after the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, Virtue struggled with her new reality.
“The most significant transition [for me] was ending the Olympic cycle where you’re working with a group of 15 people and have a singular focus,” Virtue explained. “Leading up to the Olympics, every part of your life is focused on the goal of winning an Olympic championship which makes things simple and complex at the same time. Every single moment of your life is accounted for.”
Virtue says afterward she was left with a different sense of self and had to figure out how to find meaning in that.
“How do you define success going forward,” she asks, “when being the best in the world was the goal for so long?”
Virtue responded by becoming insanely busy in 2018 and in retrospect says it was too much. This time, when she finishes her last performance in St. John’s, she’s ready and eager to go forward. She has a support network in place, plans made and goals set.
Staying Motivated to Succeed
As an athlete, Virtue says it wasn’t always easy staying motivated to keep training day after day, year after year.
“What I realized is how much power there is in delayed gratification,” she says, “which is something our society doesn’t really value. I felt sick and anxious every morning before practice knowing it would be gruelling,” she explains. “It was really uncomfortable. So I started working with a mental preparation coach to learn how to feel comfortable even when I was uncomfortable. I’d ask myself ‘How do I want to feel walking out of the arena?’ Or ‘What will make me proud?’
Dealing with Failure
While Virtue and Moir won plenty of titles, there were just as many or more disappointments and setbacks. She had two surgeries on her legs for overuse injuries, they failed to win gold at the 2014 Olympics, faced judging controversies and stepped back from skating for a time.
“These are the moments that define us,” Virtue says. “Every failure let us be better in the future. Embracing it gave us a chance to pause, pivot and reflect. Rarely do we pause to reflect on failure.”
Virtue and Moir grew to celebrate their failures realizing they were just another stepping stone to future success.

Mental Toughness
No one knows more about mental toughness than Virtue and Moir at the 2018 Olympics. Trying to make a come-back after stepping briefly out of the sport, they felt intense pressure to succeed.
“It’s a seven minute sport,” Virtue says of ice dance, “three minutes for the short program and four minutes for the long. It’s impossible to stay focused every single second. I felt more vulnerable and exposed than ever before waiting to perform in 2018.”
“Mental toughness is all about being prepared – there’s no better feeling,” she says. “Putting in the practice ahead of time, nourishing your body and managing your inner dialogue are all crucial. You want to be thinking ‘bring it on!’”
“Before the 2018 Games, my mantra was ‘I’m unstoppable,’ yet at the same time there was a little voice saying ‘Oh no! This is not going to go well.’ Right before competing [at the 2018 Olympics] I would gladly have parachuted out of the arena! But I had to quiet the noise in my mind and focus on my preparation.”
“We were so laser-focused, more prepared than ever before in our career … and it was the first time I felt the momentum from the crowd. It’s something you can get a sense of in other sports but ice dancing just doesn’t have it. I remember feeling chills after we skated.”
Be the Best Version of Yourself
Although she won’t be training as a skater any longer, Virtue plans to stay active and is looking forward to playing more golf and tennis. She’s admits to being addicted to her Peloton® stationary bike and may buy herself a road bike.
“I’d also like to get involved in a recreational team sport and explore that dynamic, as opposed to being on a team of two! ” she laughed. “I’ll never be in such good shape as I was for the Olympics and I’m okay with that. But I still want to be the best version of myself that I can be.”
While gym workouts aren’t on her agenda (“the gym was my job”) Virtue says it will be a relief to exercise for the pure pleasure of it.
“It will be nice to not have every exercise be so functional and to get in touch with my body,” she says. “It’s like a weight has lifted. This time it’s just for me.”
Over her career Virtue has had many memorable moments and some of them were just from knowing they had the grit to put in the necessary work.
“There were so many 6 a.m. mornings in grubby, empty hockey rinks … we’d be warming up and just at peace together,” she recalls.
Having conquered the word of ice dance and learning what it takes to get to the top, Virtue has all the skills to succeed as she goes boldly forward. And although she and Moir will be missed on the ice dancing scene, their contributions to the sport and legendary performances won’t be forgotten.

U.S. Navy starts investigation and releases images of the P-8 that sweeped the runway and stopped inside the sea in Hawaii
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/27/2023 - 10:16am Aeronautical Accidents, Military
The U.S. Navy will call an investigation into the November 20 accident in Hawaii, where a Navy's P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft passed the end of the runway and ended up in Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii, authorities said, adding that the aircraft is structurally intact.
Three pilots, along with a crew of two officers and four soldiers, were on board the aircraft at the time, but no injuries were reported, authorities said. The Poseidon belonging to the 4 "Skinny Dragons" Patrol Squadron of Whidbey Island, Washington, was landing at Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Air Station when, for undetermined reasons, the aircraft left the runway and entered the shallow bay just before 2 p.m. (local time for Hawaii). The weather at the time of the accident was cloudy and windy.
Tumblr media
The P-8A Poseidon, based on the Boeing 737 plane, remained in the bay until Tuesday night.
“The U.S. Navy will call an investigation to determine the cause and factors that contributed to the accident,” San Diego-based U.S.-based 3ª Fleet officials said in a statement released Tuesday night.
The flight data recorder has already been recovered while the military continues to plan the removal of the aircraft.
The U.S. Navy Aircraft Accident Council is investigating the site at the Hawaii Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe Bay, trying to determine the cause of the accident and any factors that contributed. A hydrographic survey was carried out to evaluate the structural integrity of the P-8A plane.
Tumblr media
"The preliminary evaluation indicates that the aircraft is structurally intact and there are no signs of fuel leakage from the aircraft," they said. “More information will be released as soon as it is available,” the statement said.
Tumblr media
The aircraft ended up near the end of the runway, with its fuselage apparently floating in the sand and coral-covered bay. The first responders and emergency teams who arrived at the site established floating barriers to contain any fuel that spread through the bay. “Diverers from Mobile Diving and Rescue Unit 1 worked during the night to help stabilize the aircraft,” officials said in the statement.
Residents of Kaneohe Bay expressed concerns about possible damage to coral reefs and other potential damage caused by fuels or other chemicals in the area, which is about 2.4 kilometers from a former fishing spot.
Tumblr media
A response team was formed to deal with aircraft recovery, force protection and environmental issues, authorities said. This specially trained team monitors the area 24 hours a day.
Another Washington state crew, from the VP-40 "Fighting Marlins" squadron, arrived Thursday to take over the coverage of the internal defense, the Navy said.

Can CoolSculpting go wrong?
Additional rare complications that may occur after CoolSculpting include: pain that starts several days after the treatment and usually resolves when numbness goes away, or after about a month. scarring or changes to skin color. reduced movement or response of the tongue following procedures involving the neck or chin.
A change in skin bio-revitalisation - This cutting-edge therapy has all the benefits of a medical quality chemical peel without the downtime as well as peeling. There is no demand to have discomfort medication, and also most individuals that have the therapy don't need healing time and the very same day they can return to work or to their common exercising. The results of Cryolipolysis are significantly the exact same - just the same as natural fat decrease processes would cause. I had experienced string veins on my face for a number of years as well as when I had the opportunity to have laser treatment at a reasonable price, I went for it. I could not believe the difference also after the first treatment. I have been so happy with the results that I am now undergoing a course of skin restoration to decrease rosacea and also I no longer have to put on layers of cover-up cosmetics.
The excellent information is that TimeReverse offers a prompt firm result-- making it the ideal treatment to have prior to an unique event. The treatment will certainly heat the deep layers of the skin and so you will certainly feel heat however this needs to not hurt by any means.

Financial literacy is the possession of the set of skills and knowledge that allows an individual to make informed and effective decisions with all of their financial resources. Raising interest in personal finance Hamilton Lindley is now a focus of state-run programs in countries including Australia, Canada, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom.[1][2] Understanding basic financial concepts allows people to know how to navigate in the financial system. People with appropriate financial literacy training make better financial decisions and manage money better that those without such training.[3]
The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) started an inter-governmental project in 2003 with the objective of providing ways to improve financial education and literacy standards through the development of common financial literacy principles. In March 2008, the OECD launched the International Gateway for Financial Education,[4] which aims to serve as a clearinghouse for financial education programs, information and research worldwide. In the UK, the alternative term "financial capability" is used by the state and its agencies: the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the UK started a national strategy on financial capability in 2003. The US Government also established its Financial Literacy and Education Commission in 2003.[5]
International Findings An international OECD study was published in late 2005 analysing financial literacy surveys in OECD countries. A selection of findings[6] included:
In Australia, 67 percent of respondents indicated that they understood the concept of compound interest, yet when they were asked to solve a problem using the concept only 28 percent had a good level of understanding. A British survey found that consumers do not actively seek out financial information. The information they do receive is acquired by chance, for example, by picking up a pamphlet at a bank or having a chance talk with a bank employee. A Canadian survey found that respondents considered choosing the right investments to be more stressful than going to the dentist. A survey of Korean high-school students showed that they had failing scores – that is, they answered fewer than 60 percent of the questions correctly – on tests designed to measure their ability to choose and manage a credit card, their knowledge about saving and investing for retirement, and their awareness of risk and the importance of insuring against it. A survey in the US found that four out of ten American workers are not saving for retirement. "Yet it is encouraging that the few financial education programmes which have been evaluated have been found to be reasonably effective. Research in the US shows that workers increase their participation in 401(k) plans (a type of retirement plan, with special tax advantages, which allows employees to save and invest for their own retirement) when employers offer financial education programmes, whether in the form of brochures or seminars."[6][7]
However, academic analyses of financial education have found no evidence of measurable success at improving participants' financial well-being.[8][9]
According to 2014 Asian Development Bank survey, more Mongolians have expanded their financial options, and for instance now compare the interest rates of loans and savings services through the successful launch of the TV drama with focus on the fiscal literacy of poor and non-poor vulnerable households.[10] Given that 80% of Mongolians cited TV as their main source of information, TV serial dramas were identified as the most effective vehicle for messages on financial literacy.[10]
Additionally, a growing number of financial literacy researchers are raising questions about the political character of financial literacy education, arguing that it justifies the shifting of greater financial risk (e.g. tuition fees, pensions, health care costs, etc.) to individuals from corporations and governments. Many of these researchers argue for a financial literacy education that is more critically oriented and broader in focus; an education that helps individuals better understand systemic injustice and exclusion, rather than one which understands financial failure as an individual problem and the character of financial risk as apolitical. Many of these researchers work within social justice, critical pedagogy, feminist and critical race theory paradigms.[11][12][13][14][15][16]
Asia Pacific Middle East Africa A survey of women consumers across Asia Pacific Middle East Africa (APMEA) comprises basic money management, financial planning and investment. The top ten of APMEA Women MasterCard's Financial Literacy Index are Thailand 73.9, New Zealand 71.3, Australia 70.2, Vietnam 70.1, Singapore 69.4, Taiwan 68.7, Philippines 68.2, Hong Kong 68.0, Indonesia 66.5 and Malaysia 66.0.[17]
Australia The Australian Government established a National Consumer and Financial Literacy Taskforce in 2004, which recommended the establishment of the Financial Literacy Foundation in 2005. In 2008, the functions of the Foundation were transferred to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). The Australian Government also runs a range of programs (such as Money Management) to improve the financial literacy of its Indigenous population, particularly those living in remote communities.
In 2011 ASIC released a National Financial Literacy Strategy — informed by an earlier ASIC research report 'Financial Literacy and Behavioural Change' — to enhance the financial wellbeing of all Australians by improving financial literacy levels. The strategy has four pillars:[18]
Education Trusted and independent information, tools and support Additional solutions to drive improved financial wellbeing and behavioural change Partnerships with the sectors involved with financial literacy, measuring its impact and promoting best practice ASIC's MoneySmart website was one of the key initiatives in the government's strategy. It replaced the FIDO and Understanding Money websites.
ASIC also has a MoneySmart Teaching website[19] for teachers and educators. It provides professional learning and other resources to help educators integrate consumer and financial literacy into teaching and learning programs.
A number of Hamilton P Lindley universities offer financial literacy subjects, such as Monash University BEX2001: You, Money & Life]), Macquarie University AFAS300: Principles of Financial Literacy, The University of Western Australia (FINA1109: Managing Your Personal Finance) and The University of Melbourne (FNCE30008: Street Finance).
The Know Risk Network of web and phone apps, newsletters, videos and website[20] was developed by insurance membership body ANZIIF to educate consumers on insurance and risk management.
India National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE) a non-profit company was created under section 8 of companies act 2013, to promote financial literacy in India.[21] It is promoted by four major financial regulators Reserve Bank of India, SEBI, IRDA and PFRDA.[22]
NCFE conducted a benchmark survey of financial literacy in 2015 to find the level of financial awareness in India.[23] It organises various programs to improve the financial literacy including collaborating with schools and developing new curriculum to include financial management concepts.[24] It also conducts a yearly financial literacy test.[21] The list of topics covered by NCFE in its awareness programs includes investments, types of bank accounts, services offered by banks, Aadhaar card, demat account, pan cards, power of compounding, digital payments, protection against financial frauds etc.[24]
Saudi Arabia A nationwide survey was conducted by SEDCO Holding in Saudi Arabia in 2012 to understand the level of financial literacy in the youth.[25] The survey involved a thousand young Saudi nationals, and the results showed that only 11 percent kept track of their spending, although 75 percent thought they understood the basics of money management. An in-depth analysis of SEDCO's survey revealed that 45 percent of youngsters did not save any money at all, while only 20 percent saved 10 percent of their monthly income. In terms of spending habits, the study indicated that items such as mobile phones and travel accounted for nearly 80 percent of purchases. Regarding financing their lifestyle, 46 percent of youth relied on their parents to fund big ticket items. 90 percent of the respondents stated that they were interested in increasing their financial knowledge.
Singapore In Singapore, the National Institute of Education Singapore established the inaugural Financial Literacy Hub for Teachers[26] in 2007 to empower school teachers to infuse financial literacy into core curriculum subjects to embed pedagogically sound activities to engage students in learning. Such day-today relevant and authentic illustrations enhance the experiential learning to build financial capability in youth. Integral to evidence-based practices in schools, research on financial literacy is spearheaded by the Hub, which has published numerous impact studies on the effectiveness of financial literacy programs and on the perceptions and attitudes of teachers and students. A longitudinal study on the impact of financial literacy education on attitudinal and behavioural change is on-going. The baseline study on financial literacy in Singapore Schools 2008/9 (Koh, 2011)[27] involved more than 6000 students and a thousand school teachers. It is the vision of the Hub to empower educators to equip their students to be financially savvy so as to make informed decisions and exercise discipline in managing their personal finance. The Hub is committed to spearheading high quality education programmes with research embedded for continual improvement so as to provide evidence-based practices.
The Singapore government through the Monetary Authority of Singapore funded the setting up of the Institute for Financial Literacy[28] in July 2012. The Institute is managed jointly by MoneySENSE[29] (a national financial education programme) and the Singapore Polytechnic.[30] This Institute aims to build core financial capabilities across a broad spectrum of the Singapore population by providing free and unbiased financial education programmes to working adults and their families. From July 2012 to May 2017, the Institute reached out to more than 110,000 people in Singapore via workshops and talks. Some of the topics covered in these workshops and talks include:
Making sense of your money Stretching your dollar Financial planning begins now Measuring your financial fitness Implementing your financial plan Basics of money management Understanding loans and credit Understanding life insurance Types of life insurance Understanding basic health insurance Types of health insurance CPF insurance schemes Building your nest egg Assessing your retirement income needs Options to build your retirement income Managing CPF money for your retirement Enrich your golden years Introduction to estate planning Steps in estate planning Introduction to personal investing Considerations when investing Major financial products Understanding bonds Fundamentals of share investing Singapore savings bonds Understanding real estate investment trusts (REITS) Understanding exchange traded funds financial habits and behaviours Is the deal too good to be true? Beware of scams When the deal turns sour Starting a family Buying your first HDB home Baby and child support schemes Buying a home within your means Money management for youth Give your child money sense Financial planning for families with special needs Financial planning for employees in transition Workshop for social workers Europe Belgium The FSMA is tasked with contributing to better financial literacy of savers and investors that will enable individual savers, insured persons, shareholders and investors to be in a better position in their relationships with their financial institutions. As a result, they will be less likely to purchase products that are not suited to their profile.[31]
Switzerland A study measured financial literacy among 1500 households in German-speaking Switzerland.[32] Testing the three concepts compound interest, inflation, and risk diversification, results show that the level of financial literacy in Switzerland is high compared to results for other European countries or the US population. Results of the study further show that higher financial literacy is correlated with financial market participation and mortgage borrowing. A related study among 15-years old students in the Canton of Fribourg shows substantial differences in the level of financial literacy between French- and German speaking students.[33]
The Swiss National Bank aims at improving financial literacy through its initiative iconomix that targets upper secondary school students.[34] The new public school curriculum will cover financial literacy in public schools.
The United Kingdom The UK has a dedicated body to promote financial capability – the Money Advice Service.
The Financial Services Act 2010 included a provision for the FSA to establish the Consumer Financial Education Body, known as CFEB. From April 26, 2010, CFEB continued the work of the FSA's Financial Capability Division independently of the FSA, and on April 4, 2011, was rebranded as the Money Advice Service.
The strategy previously involved the FSA spending about £10 million a year[35] across a seven-point plan. The priority areas were:
New parents Schools (a programme being delivered by pfeg) Young Adults Workplace Consumer communications Online tools Money advice A baseline survey[35] conducted 5,300 interviews across the Hamilton Philip Lindley UK in 2005. The report identified four themes:
Many people are failing to plan ahead Many people are taking on financial risks without realising it Problems of debt are severe for a small proportion of the population, and many more people may be affected in an economic downturn The under-40s are, on average, less financially capable than their elders "In short, unless steps are taken to improve levels of financial capability, we are storing up trouble for the future."[35]
There are also numerous charities in the United Kingdom working to improve financial literacy such as MyBnk, Citizens Advice Bureau and the Personal Finance Education Group.
Financial literacy within the UK Armed Forces is provided through the MoneyForce programme, run by the Royal British Legion in association with the Ministry of Defence and the Money Advice Service.[36]

Lockdown Diary Part 8
A personal account during the lockdown in the UK due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
23/03/2020 8:30pm Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister, gives a live address to the nation to, effectively, put the country on lockdown to stem the spread of the deadly coronavirus strain, Covid-19.
Many of us have been self-isolating for days but this latest development within the UK in reaction to the pandemic feels very serious and very scary. I decided to keep a simple diary and where better but online.
Day 211: I stayed up till 5am last night. The last thing I watched was Ronny Chieng, a Malaysian comic in the states. It was a Netflix comedy special and bloody funny. Other than that, a quiet night, nowhere near as fucked as Friday night. As I type, I am about to finish off spicy af sausage cassserole for tea and watch a film - all quite sedate. I’ve work tomorrow, after all!
Day 212: Every time I try and watch something on Amazon Prime, it errors or doesn’t load so I have to uninstall and reinstall, which is a pain the fucking arse. Glad I don’t pay for it. I watched half of the Tom Hanks film last night, A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood, based on a real life children’s TV actor. It’s good but weird. I’ll finish it tonight. Jo Broom called and told me (well, reminded me of, actually) some good info, especially about insulin lasting 4 hours and the liver producing sugar for when you wake up). Day 213: I didn’t watch the rest of that Tom Hanks film last night, doing so right now. I got a call @5.30pm from Tall Tom asking to pop round which he did (social-distancing at the front door). He dropped of a canvas print he’d ordered of on eof my pictures from FB. Fucking gobsmacked! That’s how much he likes them. I am still in shock. What a brilliant thing to do! Day 214: Finished  A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood last night, I enjoyed it. Today has been standard. Half way through the third week back from furlough and, while I am still very glad to be working, I now also relish pasrt of being paid 80% for fuck all! My walks have been tentative today, I have done something to my right ankle, it feels sore but OK when walking at pace. My phone and Google Fit are playing up - I am suddenly walking 8km/h! Day 215: Phoned Dad - Rita sent an email a couple of days ago telling of a lump in his ear which he had removed and they are going to check for cancer. When I spoke with him it was usual dad - nothing to worry about. He spoke very highly of the staff at Stamford Hospital where he had it done. They took skin from his nesxk to put on his ear lobe where they performed the op.  I had pie and veg tonight. It’s a real change and I am stuffed as I type this. SB pee-ed me off at work big time late this afternoon. Diary updated! Day 216: Dan’s in court today for his drink driving escapade. I think he’s pleading not guilty - I’m not sure, neither has he been each time I have talked to him about it. It was scheduled at 4pm and he’s meant to let me know how it went. As I type, it’s just gone 9pm. Fuck knows what’s happening. I guess he’ll let me know in his own time. Meanwhile, work was OK, nothing hectic, I am on my first Friday beer, just about to eat meatballs and pasta and watch Taxi, a film written by Luc Besson. End of my 3rd week back and it’s a bit like I wasn’t furloughed for 6 months!
Day 217: I switched off that Taxi film after 30 minutes. It was bollocks. Dan got a 20 month ban (reduced to 15, if he does a course, which he says he will) and £1100 fine. At least it’s over and done with now. I got up at gone 2pm today. I have to cut this late sleeping habit out at the weekends. That being said, it’s 8.40pm, just about to dive in the shower, eat and then get on it. Clocks go back later so I’ve an extra hour to play with!
Day 218: Still managed to stay up stupidly late last night, up at before 1pm (but in real terms, that’s just before 2pm!)  Had a video chat with Fog - I was meant to go up to his yesterday to listen to the footy but, ‘cos I was up so late, I didn’t. Anyway, during our chat, we’ve decidied to go to Honolulu when it’s safe, specifically to go to McDs. It was a bizarre conversation - I can’t actually remember the details!
Day 219: The lady (I think it’s a lady) from the Oundle Chronicle emailed to say she didn’t think William (the student) has contacted me (he has but is fucking useless), so she’s found some questions for me to answer and wants me to pick my favourite 4 (hi-res) photos. I’ve written a couple of paragraphs that answer her questions and I was to pick photos that have had the most likes on FB - finding that info out, without trawling back over my posts, is easier said than done! Got the car tyres sorted today - an advisory from the MOT that Julian did last week.. I do like Oundle Tyre and Exhaust centre. Work was fine. Marke had to deal with Eileen Baxter and chatted to me about it. I had it all the week before last. She’s delightful but the least IT savvy person I have ever known in a workplace whereby a computer is integral to the role!
Day 220: I’ve been doing press-ups and toe tocuhes after each exercise for a little while now. 7 press-ups, doesn’t sound much but when I did it before and rapidly increased the numbers (up to 22), it played havoc with my shoulder which I thought was becoming frozen. So, I will icrease the amount slowly. I can just about touch my toes now. When I started, I barely got past my fucking knees! Work was standard today and I had an interesting chat with a recruiter about a job at Jagex, a computer game firm responsible for Runescape which is, apparently, a big deal. Posh playing tonight. At one point, when leading at home to Burton we were top. Now it’s 2-2 with minutes to go and we’re third with fucking Lincoln top. Day 221: I sent an email to Shirley from HR (re) asking about the salary discrepancy between mine and Mark’s. She’s going to talk to me tomorrow about it. I had a lomng chat with Barrzy tonight, always good to catch up and reminisce. I’ve just had two sausage rolls (on the cheap shelf from Co-Op, Dauphinoise dotatoes (ditto), mixed green veg and onion gravy for tea and I am fucking stuffed.
Day 222: Typing at gone 4pm on day 223! Had a meet with Shirley. No dice on the pay until it can be reviewed next year. All pay reviews are on hold. She explained that the salary offer was based on available budget rather than a pay grade or bench mark. Day 223: Typing this very late on day 224. Usual Friday. Work, beers, bed at 5am. went up Fog’s for a couple and watched Train to Busan. Day 224: I swore blind, when I woke and got up (2.24pm) I would have a day off from exercise. Stair climb and 10km walk done! Leigh from Oundle Chronicle messaged chasing my answers for the article. Last night, someone posted such great pics on the Oundle Chatter group that it makes me think twice about posting my photos. I tell everyone I just point and snap with my phone camera and, while it is the phone camera, I do so much pissing about with Google photos I feel like a con, it doesn’t sit well with me. Made lasagne for tea. Fucking lush - lardons, scothc bonnet and an Oxo cube really helped, I think. It’s 11:44pm as I type, 15 mins and I’ll deliver K’s birthday card. Not sure what I am hoping to come out of that, really. Just can’t let go! Day 225: Stupidly late one again last night. Up at 2pm. I’ve responded to Leigh at the Oundle Chronicle - why I make it so hard, I do not know, I really overthink some things.  Eye appointment tomorrow, 9.50am, which Sam, Mr. Minos’s secretary offered me when she called on friday. Sueanne was very cool about it when I checked it was OK. So, now I am fretful of what will happen! More lasering, I reckon.
Day 226: Eye clinic was not great. I need lasering in my right eye, so that will be both eyes. Mr. Hussain, the consultant that ive seen loads including today, explained that the field of vision is affected that it can mean I am not allowed to drive. In one eye it doesn’t matter, in both the DVLA will order a test and, if the field isn’t wide enough, means I won’t get a license to drive. Shit! K WhatsApp to thank me for the card plus some ‘chat’ which ended uninvitingly (i.e., end of conversation!). I just replied that I was glad she liked it (the card),
Something is up with my left thumb, it’s sore by the nail, as if it’s ingrowing, but it isn’t. Fuck knows what it is and it’s really bothering me, very painful. Pretty shit day, all in all. Day 227: Called the surgery about my thumb and Dr. leijsen called me back, asked some questions about the photo (I had to take a pic and send it in), including whether there’s any pus, and then said she’ll prescribed anti-biotics. Later today, it started to leak pus, and feel better! But, it’s still not right so I’‘l take the course. Looks like I have got an interview for the IT support job at Jagex, got a call from the recruiter today, just need confirmation. Spoke with Shirley from HR about the fact I might not be able to drive in the future. She was pretty cool about it in a kind of cross-that-bridge way and suggested I run it past Sueanne.
Day 228: Spoke with Sueanne about my impending eye lasering which is on Friday ay 3.30pm, the hospital called to let me know, she was very cool about it and even suggested I take Monday off! More importantly, she spoke of the non-driving as no factor to worry about job wise, especially as we are all WfH nowadays. I have an interview at Jagex, well, Zoom, but it is on Friday, 1pm.
Day 229: Told Mark at work about the lasering adn potential non-driving. I think it shocked him a little. I am worried about tomorrow, big time, although it’s just lasering - I’ve had it done before. I cannot wait for this time tomorrow (9.40pm). I have been trying to concentrate on preparing for the interview but it’s all too easy to get distracted. Day 230: Interview went OK. Eye appointment was horrible but bearable. The doc wants me to book in for more laser but, only so it can be reviewed and ‘topped up’ if need be. Better than a going for a check up and having to book another laser appointment thereafter. It’s near enough 9.00pm and I am going to enjoy a bear or two.
Day 231: No after affects to speak of from the eye appointment but I know lasering has occurred. It’s like I haven’t got the full set of cells recieve information from yje pupil. It’s intangible but still perceptible. Great walk today, took some cracking photos - very pleasing. More booze and draw tonight and, hopefully, up tomorrow before the 2.20pm wake up time of today. Posh beat Oxford away (1-2) in the FA Cup 1st round.
Day 232: 2pm by the time I got out of bed. I’ve got to curb this habit. Missed calls from Dad but answered one from Rita just before going for a walk when I promised to phone tomorrow. Day 233: I think SB wa surprised was at work today. I ordered two rugs (from irugs.co.uk). They are 8x5″ and were 75% off, £58 ea. One for under the table (desk) and I put one in the spare room. Hopefully keep the house a tad warmer. Getting into Barry on Sky Comedy. Barry’s a hit man. It’s darkly intriguing. I took a couple of pics of a solitary poppy today, icuding a couple of macros. They turned out OK so will post one on Wednesday (11/11).  Talking of photos, two people (one is Alison Brighty) asked for a jpeg of one of the photos I posted on Saturday so they can get it printed.
Day 234: Spoke with dad today, let him know the situation with my eyes which, I think worries him, so I hate to do it but, also, he needs to know, just in case.
Day 235: The poppy pic I posted was very well received, over 160 likes on the Oundle chatter page and Jo Langford wants the original (why she can’t take it of FB?) to print off, which is nice. I am working on Saturday - gotta attend a meeting at 8am. FFS! SB also agreed for me to back on call, cool!
Day 236: Average sort of day. I really wish I wasn’t working on Saturday! OH, Dan messaged...first I’ve heard from him for over two weeks...he’s got two days of so he can watch all the US Masters which started today, and was good watching. So, not that average a day afterall, now that I think back on it. Day 237: Woke up at 9.14am today, yikes! Messaged with Dan a lot as he is home watching the US Masters...told him abbout my eye issues and the fact there’s a chance of losing my driving license. Also, in a silly facebook post and comments, about me not being able to drink tonight ‘cos of work tomorrow, Scottish Ricky asked if I was OK. I replied, not really, meaning that I’m pissed off I can’t get pissed. He messaged to say if I ever need to chat. Fucking great bloke. I rang him to let him know I was not being serious on FB and we chatted for 30 mins or so. Top man. still, it does remian that I am missing a beer this Friday - roll on tomorrow night!
Day 238: Work thsi morning was OK, finished at midday. Watchung golf, having abeer or two right now (just gone 8pm). Posh lost away to Crewe 0-2. Day 239: Up at 2pm after a good few drinks last night (and some silly video posting on FB of me  trying shit lager - Corrs Light - with hot sauce). Just settling down to watch Dustin Johnson win the Masters - he’s -20 with 2 to play, no one near him.
Day 240: I ordered some slippers from Amazon that arrived today. They were also returned today. I’m destined to never find a decent, non-expensive pair.
DJ did win the golf.
I watched Jojo Rabbit this evening. A first class film.
