thoughts on itadei, itakisa, and itasaku? and i guess any other popular itachi ships that are not currently coming to mind for me lol

Love it. Have written tens of thousands of words about it. It's sort of a frustrating ship to write because they're both assholes about their own feelings (and I don't think Itachi in canon... has a lot of thoughts on Deidara), but Deidara has an extremely canonical gay melt down over Itachi, so I feel like there's a lot of ridiculousness to explore. The fact that they're both criminal villain ninja means there's a lot of room for understanding that other ships might not have. Yes, Deidara blows buildings up with people inside, what of it? He's not like "ooh aah you monster!!" over the Uchiha Massacre. And I like that they both have wildly different, but demonstrably lethal/successful, attitudes towards problem solving. Like I think they cover a lot of each other's flaws while also making each other worse, you know?
Since it's "brutally honest" opinion time, I will add a complaint I haven't made in a while. I hate the way a good chunk of fandom writes Deidara in mlm ships. For some reason, people like to make him a naive uwu bean to play the "feminine" role. Stop that, it's boring and OOC.

This is a ship I don't really mind but also don't find super compelling. I'm not a big Kisame fan-- like he's fine, I like writing and reading about him fine-- but he's not one of my favorite Akatsuki members. I don't filter on ItaKisa but the tag won't make me NOT click a fic. I could be compelled to write it if I had an idea for it. I do prefer exploring their relationship from a more platonic angle. Kisame is most interesting to me when he's the guy dealing with Itachi's bullshit 24/7 and somehow still thriving.

Basically I think Itachi is someone who has idealized romance in a way where he has an extensive very bland fantasy about nice Konoha girls who let him have the most bland vanilla hetersosexual marriage of all time. He wants the culturally appropriate equivalent of a white picket fence. Would he actually be happy with this? No, obviously not, but Itachi also thinks he's a pacifist.

Other Itachi Ships
Let's see.... every once in a while I get intrigued by the idea of Kakashi/Itachi, but I have never hit on anything there that I really like. I'm fine with Shisui/Itachi, but I don't think Shisui has enough of a canon presence for me to go really feral over it like I would ItaSaku or ItaDei. I'm intrigued by some other Itachi/Akatsuki ships although I don't think any of them are popular. For example, I think Itachi and Sasori would clash horribly in that they're both assholes in similar directions, and this would make SasoItaDei a beautiful trashfire for Deidara specifically.
I've written some Itachi-Karin interactions that I thought were fun so I think ItaKarin could be interesting. Ummm..... OH! I regularly forget Izumi even exists. Sorry, Izumi.

Hii!! What are your thoughts on those who say Itachi is a terrible person and on this opinion?? I know you love him so I would like to know your thoughts on this .
I have no opinions on his haters, except for the fact that I want them to keep their hate boner for him in their pants and the relevant tags and not slip into my notes, which unfortunately doesn't happen, because haters think their hatred for a morally grey anime boy makes them morally superior, and they can't fall asleep unless they have broadcasted this everywhere in the world. I've seen haters invade the most normal posts about him to express how agonized they are because people love a character they hate. Who'd tell them the world doesn't revolve around their hatred for one character? Give it a break already. You're allowed to hate him or whatever but stop acting like a prick and let people have fun without getting offended.
As to the opinion that he's a "terrible person."
Sighs.
People have a hard time separating a character's motivations/actions with his intent. When you're analyzing any character, there are two factors to be considered — Reason and Consequences. Itachi is judged based on the consequences of his actions rather than his reasoning behind them. Everything else, except for the character in question and his feelings, is secondary in his analysis. This fandom makes everything else primary when it analyzes Itachi, whereas his own experiences and trauma aren't taken into account. If he hadn't lived the life he did, his, the clan's, and eventually Sasuke's fates would have been completely different.
If he wasn't taken to the battlefield when he was four, he wouldn't have developed the desire to end the conflict in the first place. He might have been able to preserve his innocence a little bit longer.
If he wasn't sent to Anbu at the age of 10, or if Danzo tried to persuade his family and his family refused, he wouldn't have witnessed the darkness that consumed him slowly.
If Shisui hadn't died he would have one person he could rely on.
If his clan didn't consider him a traitor he might not have lost it either.
If his family hadn't given up on him after Shisui's death, MAYBE things wouldn't have gone as bad for anyone.
Not only the way the village treated him but also he way the clan treated him made it impossible for Itachi to put his trust in anyone.
He didn't choose any of this to happen to himself. These things did and he drew into himself, entirely incapable of trusting other people. So, if I'm analyzing Itachi's character his experiences and feelings are to be prioritized first and foremost.. The consequences come later on, the primary factor is always the reason behind his actions. Not just for Itachi, but for every character who falls in the same category that Itachi does.
Ah, yes... Itachi is so terrible as a person that —
When he saw war happening in front of him, dead bodies, pain on the faces of the dead, his first instinct was to stop this destruction instead of letting this to be their future.
When a bunch of seniors came to bully him (in the novel) clearly with the intent of violence against him, he chose not to fight with them, even though none of them stood no chance against him.
Whatever horrible thing he did — murdering his clan or destroying Sasuke's life — he didn't expect any redemption or forgiveness even if his parents would have forgiven him and Sasuke also forgave him. In canon, it's impossible to change his mind about his self-loathing. He took the responsibility of his actions and lived and died with it.
When he returned as Edo Tensei, he chose to protect people because he knew war was hell. You could argue he was under the influence of kotoamatsukami. But someone in complete control of kotoamatsukami wouldn't be disgusted with Kabuto for doing something that broke grieving hearts of the loved ones of the dead again, making people go through the agony they'd once witnessed. What kind of terrible person feels this way?
When he learned Kabuto was also used by the Shinobi world, just like he was, instead of leaving Kabuto in Sasuke's care, entrusting him to kill Kabuto, Itachi chose to save his life.
Anyone who came closer to knowing Itachi, who had nothing to do with the village or anything, couldn't help but respect and admire him, despite him being a renowned criminal. Kisame, Killer Bee, etc., for example. It's a pity that very few people did and those who did never bothered to know the truth behind the massacre. And the others were dead.
Itachi wasn't a bad person. He was placed in the terrible circumstances that demanded him to make decisions. If his life had been teensy bit easier or if he'd had someone to support and guide him, he would have been more aware of his own faults, weaknesses, and tried to find a different path to handle the same situations. Just because he took the moral responsibility of his actions doesn't mean he was the only one responsible for the mess. He seems to be in complete denial of his trauma and sufferings, which is why we never see him blaming others. He, too, judged himself for the horrible things he'd done, and that was why he wanted to die at Sasuke's hands to avenge the clan or be hated by Sasuke forever.

Do you have panel proof that Naruto would not give up and use Shisui's eye if Itachi didn't burn it. I'm arguing with anti's that think he would do it for Konoha because he did not say anything.
it’s impressive how those people have a checklist for everything naruto did or didn’t do in regarding to sasuke, when there is enough evidence that naruto wouldn’t physically force sasuke to do things or brainwash him or whatever else they claim. those people truly read naruto saying at vote1 that “he would break all of sasuke’s bones to not let him go to orochimaru” and stopped reading at that point i guess? because it’s not possible to see that naruto grows out of this and changes his approach towards sasuke, it’s something that matters narratively speaking btw, not to mention that vote1 is a very specific case, a mutual and violent fight on both sides, and it’s a fight, something that naturally escalates. it’s also not enough that naruto stops trying to “bring sasuke back” after he finds out the truth, and lets sasuke come to him, meet him in the middle. and i guess it’s also not enough of naruto to let sasuke go in chapter 699 because he has enough sense of boundaries to understand that sasuke doesn’t want to be there anymore and that the main issue all along was sasuke going on a self destructive rampage and being alone.
my my, who would’ve thought that? it’s not like it’s textually supported at all! (and i don’t think i need to say that sasuke going on with that plan isn’t about him being alone because he wants to, but rather because that’s something he feels he has to, and naruto sees through it).
i think it’s fair to say that naruto needed better self reflection, including the way he treats himself btw, because that’s never brought up somehow. you can say that itachi’s interactions with both naruto and sasuke made both of their characters worse, something that’s also never brought up. it’s even more rational to understand that those things weren’t written exactly because that’s consistent with their characters, but rather because kishimoto worked for a magazine, so he didn’t have unlimited creative freedom, and because they swept a lot of things under the rug for the sake of boruto. but to claim those things when crucial points show otherwise because “there is no panel explicitly saying that!” is just dishonesty to me.

You saying about the legitimacy about sakura’s votes is ridiculous! Hinata fans were exposed equally and hinata still out of top 10! the official naruto account declared that the fraudulent votes are void and antis even send them emails exposing that and THEY replied declaring the fraudulent votes are void AGAIN!

Why are you so offended that I think a jump from 9th to 3rd is suspicious? Seriously, what is this? I have no issues with Sakura being in the top 10 characters, top 5 or even top 3. My only issue is just because of the large jump, because of course that will raise a few eyebrows. If she had been in the top 5 from the get go, or if she had moved 1 - 3 places up, I'd have no issues at all. But because I think it's suspicious that she moved 6 places up, you're calling me ridiculous? To the point where you claim how mere scepticism over a character's large jump in ranking is "saying anything"? Fucking hell man I'm not dealing with this crap.
I mean, the reason I said the poll has no meaning didn't even have anything to do with Sakura's votes. I said that because of Minato, Shisui and Sakumo's high placements, and how the poll no longer has any meaning with regards to popularity, because their votes aren't being driven by popularity, but rather by the desire to see a short manga for them. But sure, falsely accuse me of dismissing the poll solely due to Sakura's votes, just because you're upset that I have some measure of scepticism over the results. Kudos 👏

Welcome to the official first post of Actuallysaiyan's Kinktober 2021. This will function as a hub for the kink list and character list. It's interesting to me that you described Itachi as 'controlling'. And while it should be obvious to me that he IS controlling because he is very good if not a master at planning things out and executing them, I never viewed him as controlling. But i think that may be because I dont think of controlling people as being calm and cool-minded like Itachi. I view Itachi as a sweet- hearted person who was put into a bad situation. Do you have more posts about Itachi being controlling? I'm intrigued.
(Before I start let me remind you guys that I’m writing my opinion on my blog and I’m not up to debate. if you disagree I couldn’t care less)
Don’t take it personally but imo sweet hearted Itachi is so OOC it hurts. I know that a thousand blogs will you otherwise cause they agree with you but to me that’s a bad fan misconception stemmed from a bad understanding of the story and his personality. It’s pretty obvious that the gentleness of his soul, that even his father mentioned, has nothing to do with being a poor cinnamon roll too pure for this world and other meme bs.
Like I wrote here, Itachi is obsessed with control. Yup, he’s polite, he uses honorifics and respecting elders and superiors, buthis perfectly appropriate manners are part of the education of a perfect shinobi and a future clan leader, cause he would have become the Uchiha clan leader without the massacre. He loves peace, he wants to avoid conflicts between villages, he believes in the village as the very thing the founders created, and he’s against his clan’s rebellion, BUT he was first and foremost a shinobi, a soldier, who knew violence couldn’t be avoided. He’s idealistic about a perfect village but not a blind Konoha follower, he knows history well and he knows the way things really were. He threatened Danzo to spill their secrets if he harmed Sasuke, for example. He is a genius, always many steps ahead of everyone, his mind is better than anyone else’s, he doesn’t trust anyone but his own means, despite his noble ideals and his love for peace he is not a team worker.
He loves Sasuke more than anyone else, and he thinks he knows what’s best for him,but his methods were unorthodox, like his genius-like mind, so he hurt him more than anyone, even though he did it to spare his life and ensure him the safest life. Being a soldier, a shinobi since his early childhood, it’s only logical that he values Sasuke’s life and safety more than his mental sanity. He knows Konoha’s wrongdoings but still he think it’s better for Sasuke to live there. He loves Sasuke, he lives for Sasuke, he wants Sasuke to be safe and ALIVE. To ensure this he uses every possible mean, even if they mean harm for Sasuke, because in the long term they’ll all keep Sasuke safe and make him strong.
He’s extremely self-confident. He’s the opposite of Sasuke who has a low self-esteem (and no, don’t give me the selfish Sasuke cause it’s OOC or the arrogant Sasuke cause that’s an act) . He’s selfless cause he sacrifices so much for Sasuke, but he does it in a ‘selfish’ way, cause he chose what to do for Sasuke and how. He takes full responsibility for his actions, and he controls each and every outcome of every action, literally fighting death back, in order to let Sasuke “kill” him during their fight, so that he would have his revenge (and return to Konoha as a hero, and obtain MS. He literally donates his life to his loved one) and he admitted his past mistakes like no other character did.
As for where to find more controlling Itachi in my blog, you can try reading this, this, this, this and this but actually everything I write about Itachi mentions that cause I can’t stand the poor martyr Itachi fan idea. It’s so evident that I can’t understand why ppl don’t see it. What does being calm have to do with not being controlling? It’s not something only loud people have, in fact that’s being bossy maybe, but controlling is something that people can do both blatantly and covertly. Also those who control others in a calm, silent way are way more effective. Itachi was a master of manipulation and manipulation is a huge form of control. He once manipulated his father into going to Sasuke’s Academy ceremony. He manipulated Sasuke basically the whole time, he used to be a double spy so he used that skill on the job and in Akatsuki later.
People, and well written characters, aren’t black or white. They have good and bad traits, and the combination of them makes them fascinating. If there is no dark side the bright side is dull. Itachi is smart and indeed has a gentleness in his soul, and he showed it to Sasuke when he was a child, to Shisui and probably to his parents, on rare occasions. But the side that stands out the most was the strong-willed shinobi who hated to lose, as Shisui mentioned in the Shinden book, and Shisui sure knew him well. Even if more often than not he wore a mask figuratively speaking, and he hid his gentler side, it doesn’t mean he was a poor bby so gentle so sweet cause if he really were so, he wouldn’t have been able to pretend to be tough, detached, cold his whole life. He wouldn’t have resorted to that level of manipulation, cruelty and violence on Sasuke, not even to save his life. His decisions and actions stem from desperation because of Danzo’s blackmail, but they way he carried them out is part of his personality. His love for Sasuke, and his dream of peace, add depth to his personality, but the way he acted with Sasuke and for Sasuke speaks volumes of his controlling nature.

truthfully, i once wrote him as canon and i still do but it’s a verse that brings us both pain. i know itachi regrets the choice he made, killing off his family and maybe he’d go back and die with them if he could. and maybe he should’ve, including sasuke but even he couldn’t kill his brother in cold blood, and he wouldn’t allow anyone to do so. sasuke was his one motivator in the decision he made, and if shisui had still been there, then maybe it would’ve turned out different. maybe if minato had still been alive, and ‘itachi would’ve had some support, some sort of shoulder to share his burdens, it would’ve been different. but he was alone, it’s a choice, the hardest choice he had to make. the single choice that ate of him with self loathing and regret. and he project that guilt onto sasuke, when he knows it wasn’t the right way. he needed penance and thought sasuke should kill him for what he’d done. maybe it would’ve given him peace, but even that didn’t. he died with the regret of his brother’s devastated face when he died.
oops, i rambled. but yeah, it’s not really impressive at all really. he practically writes his own story, the way he would’ve wanted it, even the case of losing shisui and his parents. he still has no support system, and some days dying seems like the perfect way out, but he’s got someone to live for, so he has to keep pushing for. and if living through ludicrous friendships and experiences are what it takes, well he’s gonna grab life by the horns.
i look forward to our interactions as well, daemon isn’t usually the type of person itachi talks to, then again ‘tachi spends weeks without talking so no one is really the type of person ‘tachi talks to. i can’t wait to see what they get up to though, so cheers to that.

2022 Creators Self-Love Extravaganza!

1) THE 'A' IN ANBU STANDS FOR (SURPRISE) ADOPTION
I love feel-good found-family fluff fics and this one served a side of comedy to boot. Writing this was really therapeutic at a stressful time in my life and I was feeling really guilty for not keeping up with my longstanding Shisui Series (HOPE AU, including completed work 'No Tomorrow' (NoT) and ongoing sequel 'Until Dawn Breaks' (UDB)). Writing Shisui is always my favourite thing to do, he's such a comfort character to me even if I'm making him hurtle through life and death situations or wacky AUs. This fic kind of encapsulated that, the joy I find in him as a character, and making sure he's loved and supported too. The fic started when I asked myself all the possible points in time for Shisui to transform what happened in canon; one of them was 'Itachi is under crazy pressure... How can Shisui protect him?' and 'legal guardian the shit out of his baby cousins' was the immediate answer.
Summary: Shisui didn't know why Raidou was giving him disappointed looks. It wasn't like Shisui had much of a track record for letting things go, for going with the Status-Quo and ignoring what was happening around him. Or that this was the first, er, child acquisition - for any of them! - either.
Honestly, at this rate, they were going to be renamed Squad Toddler instead of Two.
It was Kakashi who grabbed this one, anyway!
2) Until Dawn Breaks
This is the sequel to my favourite shisui fic I've ever written. I planned the whole story out, multiple arcs, before I had even written a word for the fic itself. I spent days getting together a brand new timeline for the Narutoverse, I figured out a whole cast, their abilities and motivations and relationships, and it felt like the whole thing was hovering above the page, waiting to be written. Writing No Tomorrow (NoT) was literally the best thing I've ever done and I'm so proud of that fic, even if I would edit it differently looking back on it now. For Until Dawn Breaks (UDB), I was really conflicted on the plotline because of that phrase, 'no plan survives contact with the enemy'. I'm at a cross roads with the fic, part of me wishes I'd skipped this arc entirely, but I don't want to abandon anything so I'm forced to soldier through. I have to make a lot of big plot decisions and that takes a lot of time, which I don't have, and knowledge, which has faded over the past year or so. I used to only update when I had at least three more chapters finished ahead of time and now I publish as soon as it's ready, and I'm sad to have lost that routine. Writing is hard and it's supposed to be fun. I hope my readers understand that breaks are inevitable and they still come read updates whenever they arrive. The fact I updated this fic this year is a huge thing for me and I'm really proud that I could keep going through this rough patch with the fic and IRL.
Summary: Shisui had succeeded, destroying the man who was responsible for his death, in every way possible. Who had caused so much suffering... more than anyone could have foreseen.
(He gasped for air, throat parched and lips chapped and-)
But now came the hardest part; learning to live again.
(The ground felt as distant as the dim twinkle of stars scattered across the night sky.)
All was still.
(The air, the only thing surrounding him, felt stretched in his lungs, whipped his clothes and hair taunt from his skin, and streamed tears from his eyes.)
And then it wasn't.
3) The Red Istari
I submitted my thesis at midnight and planned this fic before I went to sleep. The first chapter was completed and posted within a day of that. This fic was a watershed moment for me, I had made a promise that I wouldn't write any fanfic whilst working on my thesis drafts until it had been completed and I stuck to that. I did some brainstorming, I have a lot of WIP ideas saved up, but I didn't write and I didn't allow my focus to shift. This fic was like a dam exploding and I feel like I'm still recovering for the enforced sabbatical. I'd attempted LotR/Naruto crossovers before but it always felt like there wasn't much of an audience for it and, whilst I like to think I write for myself, I do weigh up reader engagement too because I find it discouraging to post and get nothing nice back for my hard work. This time I didn't care, tbh. I watched the extended edition on loop in the final days of my thesis work and it felt like i had to write this fic or explode. I think it worked out nicely haha
Summary: The sky was aglow, deepest crimson washing over the land and undimmed by the bruise-purple clouds that clutched at the edges of the horizon.
The sands shifted beneath him, deep and perfect as only a desert that has consumed everything within it can be.
A staff of inscribed steel stood proud where it was stabbed into the sand, radiating heat against the side of his neck.
Somehow, he knew in his bones that there was nothing out there but him, the staff, and the golden desert.
He was alive, bare, and unwounded despite the blood he could feel stuck to his flesh.
This was not death.
This was… something new.
4) REVELRY
I once wrote a Bnha self insert and the whole experience of trying to make sense of the fandom and the canon verse was so bewildering that I never wrote for my hero academia again. Until now. I've read a lot of Bnha (seriously, my total ao3 bookmarks are in the 6000s now) and I have a lot of characters I adore but i never felt the urge to write for them like i did for this Tokoyami fic. Quirk science confuses me, I'm not one of those accounts who can theorise legitimately on the topic, but quirk Shenanigans and fuckery is something I can weigh in on a little more confidently. I'm ending 2022 by trying out a fandom i thought I'd never post about again. It's a nice bit of self character development, yeah?
Summary: “The shadow is the greatest teacher for how to come to the light.”
Others don't understand that a 'quirk' is not always a tool and that, sometimes, a family is two birds in the darkness of the night.
Fumikage is going to be a hero.
And so is Dark Shadow.

5) WIPS
This last celebration is for my WIPs! There are a stupid amount of them, most will never see the light of day, but i love them all ❤️ they're wacky, heart breaking, ridiculous, fluffy, healing and badass! I'll spotlight a few of my favs from this year, since I pick out a snappy title, dramatic summary and aesthetic line divider before almost anything else haha
DRAGON (KAGE SERIES WIP)

Mikoto had been born into a Clan that, whilst not so foolish as to disregard its girls, preferred for them to stay at home, providing future heirs and fighters, than risking themselves in the field. Peace had only esasperated the expectations that a pretty girl made a prettier wife.
Mikoto, thankfully, was the daughter of Uzushio Ambassador Uchiha Kagami and Shiho the Silvertongue.
Her inner spark was tended, never stifled.
The Will of Fire would burn brightly once more.

Mikoto had been born in a plum grove, nearly a month premature, exactly half way between Konoha and Uzushio. Her mother predicted that she would have an indomitable will. Her father declared that she was born between two worlds.
They were both right.

HUNTER (KAGE SERIES WIP)
The Sarutobi Clan had long been in the service of the Daimyo. The Uchiha and Senju were Noble Shinobi. The Nara were Wild Healers, coaxed out of obscurity by their connection to the Yamanaka and Akimichi.
The Hatake had been Samurai, set apart by their own moral code and Clan culture.
They'd sworn themsleves to Konoha, allies with the Senju for centuries. They were Kin to the Nidaime, who was born of Senju Butsuma's second wife, and an integral part of the village founding. Their loyalty and skill had put them in the first line of defense and had proven their Clan's downfall.
Sakumo was the Head of a Clan of two. His wife, ambushed on a solo courier mission. His son and heir, strongarmed onto the battlefield far too young for all of his genius. The Hatake were in danger and Sakumo was their only hope.
The White Fang had played the loyal watchdog for too long. Konoha had forgotten the bite of white chakra and the savagery of a desperate father.
Konoha needed to remember why the rest of the known world rightly feared wolves.

They saw her ebony curls, eyes like cranberries, and the strength of her Genjutsu.
'Uchiha,' they whispered, fearful, wrong.
'Pretender', the Clan-born dismissed, sneering, ignorant.
'Clan', the trees seemed to murmur, a song precious few could hear these days, and swayed towards her presence. A leaf caressed her cheek, the soil humming underfoot, and branches curved to cradle her descent.
Kurenai had grown up in a civilian family and, whenever anyone looked at her, that was all they saw. The Yuuhi family were small, wide-spread, but had done well for themselves. Kurenai was their only child, the lone Shinobi in generations, and the secrets in her blood seemed to pound just beneath her skin.
She wove roses into reality and warped the mind in her grasp until nothing was believable and the flourishing greenery was waved away as a trick of the light.
'Yuuhi,' they called her.
'Senju', the forest breathed.
And Kurenai smiled.
