#I want to make art and animatics for this so bad

I've been watching a ton of Youtube videos reviewing and rewriting Disney's Wish movie. There are a lot of bad movies out there, but what makes this one unique is that nearly everyone agrees that this movie had good bones, but was executed poorly.

The villain song really exemplifies this, and not just because it has lyrics like "It's genetics, yeah I got these genes from outer space" (which he didn't, by the way.)

The king's flaw is he's over-protective which leads him to be too controlling of his subjects. He takes their wishes from them (which makes them forget what they wished for) and won't grant most of them or give them back. When he was a child, marauders destroyed his kingdom and killed his parents (I think?) which instilled a fear of other people's motivations. So now he's a control freak.

So here's what the king's villain song establishes:

He's vain! This has never come up before and doesn't have anything to do with his villain motivations.

Then we have lyrics suggesting that he exploits people's labor and takes the credit for himself to make himself look good. ("I'd give the clothes off Benito's back, if you really needed that. I'd be the first one to volunteer Henry if your home were to crumble.") BUT the king studied hard to master magic, built a kingdom, and sometimes magically grants wishes. No part of that is stolen valor. This lyric doesn't make sense.

Then the infamous "I let you live here for free and I don't even charge you rent" line. I'm not going to talk about why it's stupid because everyone else already has.

Then the king compliments himself a bunch, and I guess the takeaway is he's narcissistic. Okay. BUT. That still doesn't tie into his motivation for hoarding the wishes! Which is that he's over-protective and paranoid about what the 'wrong' wish could do! This song is a mess! Just like the movie it's in.

Wish has an interesting premise. It could have been a good movie. I like a lot of the early concept art and ideas, some of which even made it to the animatic stage. But instead it's full of non-characters blandly imitating the actions of classic Disney characters without any understanding of what made classic Disney great.

There are still creative people working at Disney and I feel bad for them. The call is coming from inside the house, and it's coming from executives saying "Nix the shapeshifting Star Boy, the stockholders want something that will sell more plushies."

Art block hit hard and I decided to finish this sketch that has been sitting in my folder for months. The way this song reminds me and makes me think of Luka is so big.

Anyway, it was so hard to pick which bit of lyrics to draw, so go hear the full song (if you wanna, it's so good, I swear) Project by Chase McDaniel.

I think Luka deep down would love to fall in love, but it's a bit hard to get that when you have convinced yourself that loving you is a mistake :)

Since the astro uran ochan and tenma are the MAIN characters #their arks through each seasons works better. each season has a theme that they work through. But now I have some notes about my feelings and progress of this animatic it’s a bit long but i would be great full if y’all read it.

Ok so my 1st fully fledged animatic has been very grueling but l've learnt so much with it

don't animate on procreate it's hell, and I need to find a better program to animate on (cause I wanna try and make more animatics in the future. Please suggest some apps to me )

I don't have to be as meticulous or nit picky about everything since it kinda makes my art look stiff and not dynamic like my sketches

Animatics CAN LOOK ROUGH (being rough doesn't make it bad, sometimes it makes it more fluid)

I really want to experiment with more dynamic camera shots and movement.

That being said I didn't want to switch up the style at the end of the animatic so I stuck with the stiff style, and this being my first actual long form animatic (not counting a couple of the more tiktok-esque Steddie ones | made) I'm still kinda proud??q!! Even though it's not how l imagined it to look like

TLDR: this is my first actual animatic, I have no animation background and don't know what I'm doing.

Nevertheless I'm so proud of what I made, but still wanna make more less refined animatics in the future, and I want to allow myself to play around with more movement

Now that I'm back in the fandom I decided that I want to remake my old "Where is the Justice" Death Note Musical Animatic I've started back in 2021 but had trouble finishing due to a lack of motivation.

I really want to try my hand at doing it again! But no promises, I'm kinda bad at committing to bigger projects and seeing them all the way through, so keep your expectations low. Very low.

Not to use Tumblr as my diary, but I was reflecting just now.

I went back to look at my old Amphibia comics for expression reference and,, it wasn’t until now that I realized how much work I put into those. They’re fully rendered and the writing isn’t half bad. That realization struck me with another right after— the fact that I work so hard when I make art for things I love.

All throughout college I had this idea hammered into me that fanart isn't real art, so I discredited everything I did these past four years. I told myself I didn't make a whole lot from 2020 onward, but in reality I made so many things. fully rendered comics, a multi-chapter fanfic, animatics, and now a fan episode. All of those were so much work and took so much out of me. I loved these characters so much that I wanted to push myself to do better to do them justice. I improved my writing and drawing skills. And…after looking back and seeing how many things I've made in the past four years, I just now got hit with a massive wave of exhaustion.

After the fan EP is done I deserve a long nap.

I wish I gave myself more credit earlier on, but now I can say I'm doing p good.
