Had another strange dream about Gerard this time it was on social media, I contacted him on his twitter account asking him several questions as a fan and tagged him in it. One of them was to do with hesitant alien, the other current and I can’t remember what the last one was, I think it was a different era in his career. So I tagged him in it not thinking much of it and that he wasn’t going to answer. After doing so I also hop on the train to London with my brother.
Whilst on the train I get bored so I go on my phone to check and to my Suprise Gee has answered my questions that I asked him each and every one of them. In the dream state I’m overjoyed and screenshot them wanting to post and tell everyone that Gerard way answered and liked my tweets the ones that I asked him about hesitant alien and stuff until suddenly the train arrives in London and I have to get off and put my phone away.
So I get off the train at London. Unexpectedly at the station Gerard is waiting for me outside the platform by the concourse where the shops are. He looks like his 2022 reunion self. He greets me by saying Hi first so I greet him back we begin a small conversation which I don’t remember what it was about but I do remember the part where he told me to not post the tweets that he had responded to on social media because he wanted privacy, so I asked him if I could keep the screenshots privately as a memento in case I deleted my twitter account to look back on to which he said it was more than ok to keep it for private uses.
The dream ended with me keeping the screenshots but deleting the tweets from my page in respect of his wishes. He was also really nice in person and text as well. The outfit that he was all wearing was the camo shirt with the black jeans but without the baseball cap so basically 2022 era and current Gee look pretty much.

BG3 Companion Music Headcanons
whoops look at me posting fun things. Anyway this is just what I think they'd enjoy listening to and not based on the playlists their actors made for them. I also did not go to the effort of doing research beyond the music I already know for this so if I'm missing some fundamental character song sorry
Karlach: into EDM, rap, pop, and pop punk mainly. anything that gets her moving and has good vibes. lowkey she has highschool dance playlist vibes like you play party rock anthem or timber and this girly is tearing up the floor. shares a Marina playlist with Shadowheart. Delves into the edgier side of pop punk, veering into emo on occasion. Her theme song is hot to go by chapell roann bc duh
Shadowheart: opposite end of the vibes spectrum. She does not want to dance she wants to feel like a bad bitch. Into a balanced amount of mainstream and indie artists. Listens to rihanna, marina, and lady gaga as well as like halestorm and evanescence. She and Karlach have scream sung I miss the misery together at the top of their lungs more then once. Not huge into mcr but she knows all the lyrics to welcome to the black parade as is her duty as an emo
Lae'zel: if you were to walk up to Lae'zel Githyanki and ask what music she likes she would look you back in the eye and say "I do not listen to music" and she doesn't. She just. Doesn't. I feel like the only thing she listens to is like weapon sharpening asmr. The only exception to this is that she once heard some of shadowheart's edgelord music and vibed hard but doesn't care enough to look it up for herself. (I made this headcanon a while ago without knowing Devora Wilde literally made a character playlist for Lae'zel that had zero songs bc she has better things to do ehoevoeovegoeg)
Gale: caught in the strange overlap between classical music lover, theater kid and literally just listening to whatever the radio is playing. He has a piano canonly idk if he actually. Plays it but he really likes piano music anyway. Stuff that sharpens the mind for study is always welcome. The theater kid comes out to play when he is home alone and/or has Wyll over and gets to scream along to phantom of the opera. He'd be a Cats defender and I'll say that with my chest
Wyll: DAD MUSIC. Like exclusively 70s/80s rock. Crying to American Pie or Carry on Wayward Son is a borderline weekly ritual for this man. Devout Kansas listener. Listens to metal on bad days but the only metal band he knows is black sabbath. Could probably play the thunderstruck guitar solo by ear if he ever deigned to learn guitar. Queen Stan until the day he leaves this earth
Astarion: kinda all over the place. He brags about listening to classical but that's only like 50% of what he really listens to. He likes music from ballets like swan lake. For not classical it's generally chill music from like the 50s/60s and then like 80s ballads. Loves Billy Joel
Halsin: I want to say asmr guy who listens to nature sounds but I don't think he'd own a device with which to play them and he'd rather just go listen to real birds anyway. Most of the songs he knows are folk songs he's picked up and he's more then content with his own renditions being the only ones he hears. Owns an ancient record player he never uses and a bunch of old vinyls the others are constantly trying to buy off him because they're super valuable, I'm talking vintage Frank Sinatra and shit
Minthara: okay two possibilities. She is either with Lae'zel in the club of just does not listen to music, like she just does not. The alternative option is that she's really into metal culture, like she casually talks about her favorite niche black metal group that no one else has ever heard of. Probably classically trained on like 5 instruments as well

I know im probably reading into it but the pride flag thing means so much, whether it was for the fans or it was for G’s own affinity with it or both. It wasn’t put in the back like other stuff thrown on stage, it was displayed for everyone to see, and in a place like Budapest.
it’s. god okay. my chemical romance has such a strange and intimate relationship with the queerness of their audience in a way i don’t think anyone else can replicate. i think they at many points felt/feel this kind of impostor syndrome at being hailed as Queer Icons. like imagine being frank iero and just being a guitarist and suddenly you’re being told by thousands of trans men that you are their blueprint for their mental health. that’s a fucking LOT, no matter how innocent or complementary it may be. i already bristle at the queer icon label because it implies someone’s identity is only important for representation - like they’re there to be consumed. and we know that gerard is through with the martyr complex. they don’t want to rip themselves apart for the masses anymore. by all accounts it would have made sense to actively reject the queer icon label because it seems like it goes against what they want to be these days - they are not there to be consumed.
and yet. they’re so kind about it. they don’t ever try and push queer fans away. they comfort people struggling with dysphoria and tell them they’re not alone and that they went through the same thing. they call in to drag shows just to tell trans kids that they’re proud of them. they join queer comic writer anthologies and write stories of self acceptance. they hang up a pride flag someone threw onstage instead of putting it to the side, in a country where the government is actively homophobic, because they KNOW what that means for the audience. they don’t have to do any of that shit! none of them do! and yet they’re so gentle with us.
gerard’s not a pushover. i think people forget that they’re tough as fuck and will stand their ground when they need to. they have incredible integrity. they ended mcr when they felt it had run its course, going against everything the industry wanted. they canceled their second solo album because the label kept trying to tamp down on their creativity. they can and would say something if they felt uncomfortable with the association of queerness that mcr has had nailed to its back. but instead all they do is listen and smile when the crowd sings the mama bridge. all they do is hang up that pride flag on the drum face. they never explain it. they know they don’t need to.

This is the end.. So.. Bye? I don't know.. Want the lyrics to the foundations of decay? There, it's down there ↓
See the man who stands upon the hill
He dreams of all the battles won
But fate had left its scars upon his face
With all the damage they had done
And so tired with age, he turns the page
Let the flesh submit itself to gravity
Let our bodies lay, mark our hearts with shame
Let our blood in vain, you find God in pain
Now, if your convictions were a passing phase
May your ashes feed the river in the morning rays
And as the vermin crawls, we lay in the foundations of decay
He was there the day the towers fell
And so he wandered down the road
And we would all build towers of our own
Only to watch the roots corrode
But it's much too late, you're in the race
So we'll press and press 'til you can't take it anymore
Let our bodies lay, mark our hearts with shame
Let our blood in vain, you find God in pain
And if, by his own hand, his spirit flies
Take his body as a relic to be canonized
Now, and so he gets to die a saint
But she will always be a whore
Against faith (cage all the animals)
Against all odds ('cause the message must be pure)
Against change (you can wander through the ruins)
We are free (but the poison is the cure)
You must fix your heart
And you must build an altar where it swells
When the storm, it gains and the sky, it rains
Let it flood, let it flood, let it wash away
And as you stumble through your last crusade
Will you welcome your extinction in the morning rays?
And as the swarm it calls, we lay in the foundations
Yes, it comforts me much more
Yes, it comforts me much more
To lay in the foundations of decay
Get up, coward
Now, so long and goodnight...
(I'll probably be adding more once I remember more shit, but for now Run, run, bunny, run)
(𝘈𝘴𝘬 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘧𝘧...)

that was SUCH a nail in the coffin analysis ive always felt weird abt how mcr and their fans have been operating ever since they came back and u put it into words 😭 like i genuinely think mcr is still effectively broken up and only came back bc they missed a) each other/performing occasionally kinda and b) MONEYYYY because a full tour and multiple makeup palette launches with no album out after like four years is insane! (i get that the pandemic mightve shifted their schedule maybe but lets be real) and i think mcr fans are subconsciously hurt by this and somehow the revisionist history of mcr being freedom fighter genderqueer activists that threw the first brick at warped tour makes them feel better about it?? like "oh this band has values so surely they wouldnt come back from a breakup JUST to take my money"
I actually think that back in 2018-2019 the band originally intended to record and release an album and then were not able to follow through. I think COVID probably affected people’s mental health or drawing out the creative process for several years more than originally planned led to the same tensions that resulted in the band breaking up coming back to the surface.
The earliest MCR reunion leak was actually in Spring of 2018 by SWMRS (lol) and had probably been going on for a long time prior to that. They have had plenty of time to record an album, they either just can’t or don’t want to.
The initial reunion announcement had a lot of really stylized and specific imagery that was new and not nostalgia bait at all. It also felt very extra for just a tour. I don’t religiously pay attention to MCR but they have been doing a lot of stuff to try and keep the album hype going as we head into 2024, like flashing a 5 symbol at shows. I feel like that type of thing was more prevalent early on, but it’s been 4 1/2 years (!!!) so it’s hard to remember.
Also, I joined bandom in Feb-March of 2013 and all throughout the hiatus through reunion leaks in 2018 (so 5 years), MCR were constantly doing things. They each had solo projects (Frank several) and Gerard was doing comics and a TV show. Plus, the band released CW, several demos, and merch.
Over the last 4-5 years, they have basically had one tour and that was it. What have they been doing this entire time? Nothing?
Also, an album that was significantly delayed or didn’t pan out would explain Frank’s garage sale fiasco. The FOB reunion was originally prompted by a blog post from Patrick complaining about how he had blown his savings on Soul Punk and it failed— so if Frank had invested personally in LS Dunes banking on a MCR album, that might explain why he needed to auction off sweatbands as well as the band getting snippy on socials about how they can’t “afford” to film a video.
And like, no, nobody is “owed” a MCR reunion or MCR album or “owed” closure and if they want to fuck off and drink virgin Pina Coladas in Tijuana for the rest of eternity and play WWWY and Riot once every 4 years or something they can
But stringing fans along with “cryptic messages” for 5 years and not making any kind of acknowledgement in the press is weird and like you said, I think explains a lot of the obnoxious holier-than-thou behavior from the fandom. During the time MCR have been “back,” FOB, Avril Lavigne, Blink, and probably other people have gone from varying degrees of hiatus to being well into full touring and promotional cycles for new material which has also made MCR less and less special. Those acts didn’t set outrageously high and dramatic expectations beforehand like MCR did either.
I also really don’t intend to be disrespectful or make assumptions but I think Gerard especially has a long history with drug/alcohol issues in relation to performing and doing touring before the album was even recorded may have led them to delay stuff to (at best) prevent any issues arising.
And like maybe their bodyguard is telling the truth and there will still be an album. But planning a reunion starting in 2017 at the absolute latest, recording and releasing a single in 2019+playing reunion shows, and not releasing the album until 2024 at the earliest is not really a normal schedule and at best is indicative that they ran into issues along the way.

i think the reason that so many people are so obsessed with mcr is because there’s so much bonus content. like yes, there’s the four main albums, but there’s also conventional weapons. there’s the black parade b-sides. there’s the elusive “only played live” songs.
three out of the four main albums have a storyline/lore, and bullets is pretty damn theatrical as well. you like the killjoys? there’s killjoys comics, both official and fan made.
dig deeper and there’s LOTMS, but there’s also drama that that crosses over with other bands.
gerard has solo stuff, as well as the umbrella academy. frank has solo stuff, as well as leathermouth, ls dunes, and pencey prep. ray may or may not have some solo stuff as well.
and there’s more happening. the Lola instagram account is a thing, and there’s a ton of rumours about new music.

I genuinely don’t understand listening to music because a guy in a band you like is also in another band. I have not listened to a single Pencey prep song in my life. I like maybe three frank solo songs, and I enjoy dunes but not enough to be super invested in them. Hesitant alien is probably the only solo project I listen to on the reg
I definitely absolutely understand it more in some cases than others! Like for instance I think I’m more prone to liking Gerard’s solo stuff bc his vocals have always been a huge pull for me when it came to mcr. When it’s the case of a guitarist doing vocals in a different band I think it’s just bound to not attract as many people bc it’s going to immediately sound so different on the surface. I also understand giving that solo band a shot bc someone you like is in it! I’ve definitely done the same, but I never tried extra hard to enjoy that music because they were in it, you know?

Each Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge songs in one sentence.
according to me
Helena:
It has a very 'radio hit single' sound, it's still very good and will have me singing along.
Give 'Em Hell, Kid:
(The beginning of this song makes me go feral) It's a droner, the guitars sound and are mixed in a way were they sound continuous, like a car motor, It hits my ears like a wall and is not only all over this album but all over 2000s rock as well.
To the End:
When ever I listen to this song it feels like it could go on forever, they main riffs and drums make it feel like staring out a window in bus or car, it just keeps going.
You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison:
The droning riffs it feels similar to Give 'Em Hell, Kid but is spliced up with choppy bits that add to the overall feel and make it a song that sounds like a nervous breakdown turned angry rampage.
I'm Not Okay (I Promise):
She's a droner again, same stuff I said as well as sounding very very 'hit radio single', its an easy song to digest and is kinda overplayed nowadays (in my opinion).
The Ghost Of You:
This song is bipolar, the melodic bits in-between juxtaposed with the chorus give the feel of someone catastrophising a bad situation to the point of breakdown, or your on a rollercoaster and just hit the top.
The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You:
MASSIVE droner here, specifically the chorus, the rest of the song is spliced nicely with fun guitar complex guitar parts and harmonic piano. It also sounds as if MCR took a beloved pop song and gave it their own rock-spin on it.
Interlude (yes this counts):
Its sounds like a song you'd hear on a religious radio station in the middle of the woods or someone writing/practicing it through the walls of a cheap apartment.
Thank You for the Venom:
Its a growly song, from the guitar to the way the word are sung, it sounds like an angry creature on the attack, the solo kinda sounds helicopter-ish too.
Hang 'Em High:
YE HAW, I know this song cant escape the cowboy comparisons but that is for a reason, other than that this song sounds out of breath and desperate, like someone on the run, it's got that same continuous motion feel as Too the End,
It's Not a Fashion Statement, It's a Deathwish:
It's got that same continuous motion feel as Too the End and Hang 'Em High (three in one wow) this one feels a bit more like a drunk man stumbling to the end of the earth, it keeps moving but unstably and erratically.
Cemetery Drive:
Similar to Ghost Of You with the changing moods but this time it feels more fatigued, the lows are low and the highs are falling quicker to the lows (the drums at the beginning marching band like in this for no reason).
I Never Told You What I Do for a Living:
Its choppy and aggressive, there's a creature attacking and they're putting everything they've got into killing, it won't stop and there is nothing you can do.

Hello I hope you enjoy some ray questions :) what is your favorite ray solo, the most beautiful to you, and the one that in your opinion is his most technically and musically impressive. love and light and ray toro to u
oh my godddd i DO enjoy ray questions thank you thank you <33333
okay so honestly this tour has blown everything out of the water so if we're including the recent live stuff then. kids from yesterday is his most beautiful AND technically impressive. the thing about fast shreddy solos is that sure they're very difficult to play but they're also forgiving. skip a note? under/overdo a bend? hit a couple of wrong frets? no big deal, it'll barely be noticeable as long as you're able to recover quick. slow solos that focus more on emotion and musicality are often so much more difficult because every single note matters and the mood depends on you not only hitting every one but hitting it well, bending in tune, sustaining it, really putting feeling into it etc. like for example the summertime solo is super simple and easy to play, but ray pours his heart into it every night so it sounds beautiful, and if he hits just one note wrong it's obvious as hell lol. anyway ray's a master at both of those types of soloing (which is insane, and as much as everyone knows he's an incredible player i feel like his emotionality as a musician doesn't get enough recognition compared to his technical prowess and ability to shred). and kids from yesterday this tour like. combines both of those things at once. it's jawdropping every single night - and the fact that it's, like, semi-improvised some nights too. genuinely astounding like all else aside mcr getting back together is the greatest gift in the world just because we get to witness that. it's like the perfect showcase of how ray's grown as a musician over the hiatus because even though remember the laughter is relatively light on guitar, you can really hear how those solos and exploring that style influenced this new kids one...but it's still so my chemical romance, because ray's never played to show off or posture, he knows exactly what every single song needs to be as emotionally resonant as possible.
anyway. lol spiel on kids from yesterday over (genuinely the way it ROCKETED up my ranking of mcr songs from close to the bottom to close to the top after this tour....lol). if we're talking studio versions only......
favourite solo: this is genuinely such a fucking hard question so i'm going to have to go with my gut response. which is venom. it's probably not my favourite solo anymore, but it was originally - it was one of the things that really hooked me on mcr in the first place, and when my show got cancelled in 2020 i couldn't listen to it for like two solid months bc it was the one i most vividly daydreamed about seeing live LOL so i have a huge soft spot for it. and it's catchy. it's clean. it's classic. it's just fucking FUN like it catches my attention and gets a smile out of me every time lol. close runners-up are vampire money, flw, and the live version of destroya.
most beautiful: augh. fuck. fuck. easy answer is summertime and as much as i agree i think i have to say scarecrow....again, it's nothing overstated. the way it like. weaves around and reinforces the vocals on "love won't stop this bomb" too like...it has brought many a tear to my eye. jesus. side note frank's parts in both of these songs are fucking heart-wrenchingly gorgeous too. for an album that sounds less like a ~guitar album~ than all of mcr's others, danger days has some of the best guitar work of their whole discography man...
most technically/musically impressive: genuinely this one is impossible to answer...like i could make an argument for sooo many of them in different ways...but i think i'm going to have to say. i don't love you. she is criminally underrated and so deceptively simple-sounding but so technically complex AND so fucking emotive. like okay another thing ray should probably get more credit for is not only that he's able to play all these solos flawlessly and beautifully but that he's able to write them - it's truly like he speaks another language, every solo he's ever written is so perfect for the song right key, right chord progression, right scale, right energy. and he's comfortable playing in so many different styles too....his blues-ed up teenagers live playing my fucking BELOVED, his practically baroque metally to the end solo, classic rock or polka or fucking borderline-edm...we are so lucky to have him oh my god.
also if we're counting non-mcr solos. take the world and remember the laughter...oouguhghghhhughhhh SHIT. they tick ALL of these boxes (and you can see what i mean about the new kids from yesterday part growing out of them).
oh my god i'm SO sorry you asked a straightforward question and i rambled for like several hundred words adjkaljgdlksajgd. what's ur favourite <333

Did frank see you?
yea so basically we decided to do barricade for dunes at adjacent bc we dont have vip for the tour so this is like our only chance for dunes barricade for a while, plus it was only 4 hours from doors til they went on which is like NOTHING compared to when we did barricade for my chem at riot fest and wwwy. 4 hours is so easy. also i wouldnt wait 13 hours for dunes ANYWAY lets make that clear.
but anyway during dunes set frank didnt like acknowledge us or make eye contact which is like kind of normal, even at his solo shows he rarely opens his eyes or looks out at the crowd. like obviously he would sometimes, like when he talks to the crowd he doesnt do it with his eyes closed. but like franks eyes being closed while onstage or not looking at the crowd is pretty normal. which is interesting that i got like so much eye contact on mcr tour but i thought aboiut it over the weekend and i think its bc mcr tour was arenas. and like when youre playing small venues like ive seen frank and dunes in, you can see everyone. and i think like one of the reasons he doesnt look out much is due to anxiety ygm. he still gets nervous :( but like in an arena its kind of just like a black abyss out there past the view of the stage lights and you can just make out the first row or so, so he was more prone to looking out from time to time and making eye contact with people.
BUT ANYWAY. so the band that was on the dunes stage before dunes was off! which was like. really strange vibe. the WHITE singer had dreads down past his knees. their setlist was three pages long...and like he was insulting the crowd and saying we had as much energy as senior citizens 😭 but because dunes were on that stage after them thats when all the guys and their crew started milling around backstage and stuff and we could see them obv cause it was broad daylight. but no frank.....until he came like around the corner at one point. and like its like omg frank :D is right there. but you dont want to stare. but he was watching the band and started taking either pics or a video and the angle he was taking them at like obviously it was of the band, but it had a direct view of me and my friends on barricade. so maybe he clocked us as being there on his side of the stage barricade....bc he knows who we are and we clearly didnt know the band that was playing lmao. idk.
BUT THEN. later that night i was high as fuck watching the succession finale while my friend tattooed a jalapeño on my leg and someone revealed to us that the singer with the like 4 foot white dreads was in fact keith morris. of black flag. who frank cornered in a convenience store in la and made him do backing vocals on hang em high which are in the song but the mixing was done so that they are fully indiscernible and no one has ever heard them. and i was like whaaaaatttttt the fuck......really crazy stuff

Thinking about the fab fours music.. the mad gear ep was mcr playing as the band from the dd universe but in fics and stuff we usually make mad gear a batshit killjoy frontman which,, definitely has gerard vibes but any descriptions of him I've seen are different.
But anyway personal headcannons, the fab four would sound like the mad gear ep/conventional weapons/danger days if they had a band obviously. But solo projects?? This is where things get creative.
Party Poison would still write hesitant alien. But they'd also cover shit like I Know How To Party by the Dollyrots that would be very slutty and make a verison of Cherry Bomb that sounds like the recording came from an irradiated cd.
Jet Star would hand out mixtapes of dad rock and hes always dropping off his latest experimentations in folk punk at Doctor D's. He'd write something like the song Card Declined for Pizza & Wine by Stevie Dinner. He'd also play guitar for this weird killjoy going by Bowie.
Kobra is such a dubstep sort of guy. I like to think he'd write something like Anarchy!!! By Stomach Book. Like with the voice and all. Funky vocal effects so that the fact its him is unrecognizable when you hear it on the radio. He wouldn't play it live but he would dj some zone raves.
Electric century would exist but maybe its Kobra and Jet. The two of them would also get together and write an album of songs solely about the Phoenix Witch. The genre of such is to be determined.
Fun Ghoul is all over the place. Leathermouth would still exist and sound exactly the same except it'd have a few extra songs about BLI. Pency Prep existed when he was teenager and still in Battey City. He played a handful of shows in the slums. He only has one copy of the cassette because he shoved it in his boot when he escaped. He has yet to make copies of it
Stomachaches, Parachutes, Barriers and the rest of that stuff would probably still exist too, but won't be written until he's older. (Except for his whorish songs like Medecine Square Garden, some of those would exist already.)
Bloodnun would definitely exist and it would have come into existence so randomly, like a handful of killjoys walked up to him and was like hey want to scream on this track?? And they just made a whole album. Black metal Fun Ghoul is real and can hurt you.
But right now hes in his Death Spells phase, Nothing Above, Nothing Below would exist but maybe there'd be more by the band or he'd make more stuff with a similar sound on his own. Go listen to Coul as a Ghoul by the Voidz. When I heard this song I was like. I like this it sorta has death spells vibes?? And then I heard the lyrics and I was in a danger days headspace so I was like. Bro Fun Ghoul would so write this. Hence, mentioning it in this post.

Welcome back madlads, today we’re listening to more of Gerard’s solo music. Today we’ll be doing all the non-album singles, meaning my next post of these will be the first of several posts listing to Frank Iero’s post breakup music.
I’m not too sure what to expect but I’m looking forward to it. Honestly I needed a bit of a break after I finish mcr’s backlog (I write my draft structure in advance lol) it was nice but I got that kinda ache in my chest after finishing a good story. I’m looking forward to getting back into new music and moving forward. (So this one came a while after I did the last post because I got really busy and lost track of time, so let’s try and finish the hiatus music before 2024 together ;u;)
Pinkish: Ok grainy, but the vibe is pretty tasty. This is nice, it reminds me a bit of bullets tbh. I’m not sure I know what to call this vibe but like, I feel. Hell-fucking-o that guitar jumpscared me, but it’s sexy as hell!
Don’t Try: oh this is a liminal vibe. It’s like both poppy but also reminds me of sifi sounds and it’s trippy and I like it. This kind of fucks. Oh I like this. I think this might be a new favorite of his solo stuff. Vaguely kinda reminds me of disenchanted. Yea I vibe with this one really hard.
Into the Cave We Wander: oh this sounds nice. This feels cozy, oh I adore this. This is just such a pleasent sounding lovely time. This gives such a calming yet adventurous vibe, fills me with a sense of pure wonder. Gorgeous 10/10.
Baby You’re a Haunted House: ok this feels reminiscent of the classic emo sound. Ok but like, why am I getting Fountains of Wayne? Like vague vague “Stacey’s Mom” vibes. But it’s pretty good. Might take a few more listens to really hook me, same things happened with “I never told you what I do for a living” but now it’s stuck in my brain.
Getting Down the Germs: oooo nice guitar. Ok this also kinda fucks. Man all his solo music has felt just so retro fr. It’s a very chill vibe, is nice.
Dasher: ok I’m not sure what to expect here. It sounds really pretty tho. Just really relaxing and pretty, I like it a lot. Yea this was beautiful.
A Hazy Shade of Winter: ok I’m not sure what to expect here either since I’ve heard this is also a cover. The vibes are something? I don’t know what tho. Haunting intro and it blows your tits clean off! Oh this is what I’ve been fucking craving! Ok this is one of the ones I think I like the sound of the most. This is good as hell!
Happy Together: mmm another cover. Oh shit man, now this fucks. God I love his voice so much. A banger cover, his voice has lived in my brain for years and paid not a cent on the god damn power bill 😔
Here Comes the End: ok vibes much. This kinda slaps shit. Looking back, yea this makes sense this was released in 2020. It vibes but damn that was 3 years ago and both feels like it’s only been 1 but also a full decade.
Well this was nice, a lot of good songs. Sorry if I missed any important ones, I’m just going by the Wikipedia page. My top 5 of the bunch would have to be…
1: A Hazy Shade of Winter
2: Don’t Try
3: Into The Cave We Wander
4: Dasher
5: Baby You’re a Haunted House
So I’m finally done with Gerard’s solo stuff after a long gap between posts of me being busy and then burnt out. I’m hoping to learn more about my music taste by doing this tbh, since Frank’s is next I’m kinda hoping to be surprised a bit. So far I’ve learned Gerard’s vocals are but one aspect that makes mcr music tickle my brain. The constant threat of having my tits blown clean off by a guitar seems to be a secondary factor. Well next up we’ll be doing stomachaches.

Re: fall out boy question
YES! I feel mostly the same way tbh! The main way I rank my favourite to least favourite is which songs end up most in the top 10 but then I also put a lot of weight on the sentimental value of it, part of the reason why I quite often rank new fall out over their older stuff is not because it’s better music but because I have so many memories associated with the newer albums as I listened to them (save rock and roll, American Beauty American psycho and Mania) religiously throughout highschool and they got me through a hell of a lot of teenage angst. But it’s amazing how well it actually stands up to scrutiny versus like Twenty One Pilots who I also listened to during my angst phase and although Vessel is a good album it doesn’t even hold a candle to something like Save Rock and Roll.
It’s only recently that I’ve actually started to listen and enjoy a lot of the older stuff because my music taste has shifted slightly (not majorly) but I definitely slept on Take This to Your Grave and even to some extent Infinity on High and Folie (heinous I know) and they’re just chefs kiss.
All the albums have their own merits and my rankings are so fucking messy cuz they’re more based on my feelings than the music itself. Basically my ranking if it was based on sentimental value would be totally different to ranking based on which has the “best” music (even though I stand by the fact they’ve never released a bad song let alone a bad album *cough* panic at the disco with Viva Las Vengeance *cough*)
related to this
Oh, nice! I can see that. And, yeah, I feel you--Fall Out Boy has a lot of sentimental meaning to me, too. I dealt with a shit ton of mental health problems growing up (ans I still deal with them), and their music definitely helped me through all that as well as through the regular, non-disordered teenage angst, lmao. Though, I will forever have a soft spot for SRAR because that was my introductory album to FOB. I was too young to have heard their pre-haitus stuff as it came out. I've since gone back and fallen in love with all the older stuff and a fuck ton of their solo projects, but, yeah, the stuff I was there for on the ground floor has some extra memories.
Also, my own high school memory of them is that I decided I didn't give a fuck about if other people found it cringy or not, I just had to do it... I had a FOB lyric as my senior quote, "you are what you love, not who loves you," from SRAR.
I also listened to a lot of TØP and P!ATD, but I never got fully into them the way I did with FOB (and, to some extent, MCR).
I'm glad you've gone back and listened! I love, love, love the old stuff. I personally have a music taste that's ALL OVER THE PLACE, and I feel like FOB gets most of the credit for it. They introduced from a whole new world away from radio pop, country hits, or classic rock. It's not just that their albums sound different, but because I got so into FOB and they all talk about their different musical backgrounds over the years, I began to consume all these different genres. Treating it like music recommendations. And I especially started listening to hardcore since that's where their roots lie. I fell in love. Hardcore, rock, metal, punk, etc. All the little sub genres of each, too. Nu metal, black metal, heavy metal, metalcore, etc., etc. I love it.
That's fair, though, rankings are often messy and all over the place anyway. Everyone has their own ears and opinions.
(I bought Viva Las Vengeance on CD before I listened and... I was pretty disappointed. I think it's good pop, and I don't mind pop music. Not at all! It's just not what I was expecting from Panic! Even as a follow-up to Pray For The Wicked, which was pretty pop-ish, too. Although, I must admit that the theory that the song "Local God" is a letter to Ryan Ross makes me actually love that song, lol.)
Thanks for giving me an excuse to rant about music, lmao.

4 the musical ask thing :3
9. which artist has been the most life changing for you? idk probably MCR, so many friends in this fandom cause I like that band
13. do you have a favorite genre or dabble in it all? I think I have a circle of general genres that I tend to listen to more often than others, pop-punk, punk, "emo", classic rock. usually it's one of those things but I have the occasional stuff that strays from it like more pop music or shit I can't put in a genre like Stepmom or some of Gerard Way's solo stuff :]
23. How did you discover your favorite artist? Well okay so this is a complex question since I have a lot of favorite bands and artists. For Fall Out Boy I've been listening to them for forever, basically since the Big Hero 6 movie came out (it was my absolute favorite for a while) but I only really started listening to their 2000s stuff after I got into MCR and I got into MCR I think because of tumblr?? from what I remember I saw a picture of cheer gerard here on tumblr and I loved it so much and how people reacted to Gerard's gender non conformity and I just felt like I fit in and I just started listening to the music more alongside that love for this fun queer band. I have no idea how I started listening to green day since it was like 5-6 years ago when I started avidly listening, I might've heard a song on the radio or something and then all I remember is casting my YouTube music on my phone or IPad (I forget what I had at the time) to the living room speaker and jumping around to American Idiot at age 10. Then I got into Stepmom because they sell cassettes of their album at this interactive art installation near me, kinda like Meow Wolf but on a smaller scale and local, and when I bought my first Walkman from there I also got their cassette and I've been listening to them ever since!!
wow that was a lot, I could definitely go on and on more about my music stuff but yeah :] also sorry this is late it evidently got trapped in my drafts and I completely forgot about it
