Help.
[Fri 19 May 2023] [death, terminal illness]
Hey, it’s mod nat again. My last living grandparent is terminally ill and I’d like to visit her for her birthday, and have her meet my partner of more than 8 years for the first time. My grandma has idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which she’s had diagnosed for about 3 years. (Life expectancy with PF is 3-5 years on average.) I only was able to for the first time in roughly 10 years last fall due to my being no contact with my parents (+ rest of family by extension) from 2014-2021.
We need to fundraise for transportation to the greater Tkaronto/Toronto area from so-called “Ottawa” where I live. Both my partner and I are disabled and on social assistance, so can’t otherwise afford transportation.
Tumblr media
Me at 3 1/2, playing with plasticene with my grandfather. I wouldn’t have had access to this photo, or any from my childhood, if you folks hadn’t helped me fundraise to get to my grandpa’s funeral back in 2021. It means a lot and I thank you.
Breakdown of funds needed:
~$80 CAD for transport there (we’re getting a ride part of the way there through my sibling)
~$100 CAD for transport the way back
$??? CAD for lodging (I don’t know the amount but want to reimburse the person covering it for me)
$?? CAD for food/other necessities
Helping would mean me getting to talk to a grandparent as my real self, when I wasn’t able to before, despite coming out as trans a dozen years ago.
If you want to help but can’t provide funds:
please consider registering to be an organ donor so that when you’re gone one day, other people can live. here’s the ontario link.
if you’re local to the GTA and can provide a place to sleep (especially an accessible one) in the future please reply (don’t DM, this is not my personal account)
if you’ve benefitted from the work I’ve done here, vouching for my character and realness in the reblogs makes a real difference in this kind of thing.

women will literally accuse women and esp lesbian circles of "not unpacking ""man-hating""" alleged ""misandry" sweetie xo" getting offended ppl aren't appropriately uplifting how "men are amazing and awesome and attractive and i won't be shamed for thinking so" as if appreciating men is a real counter opinion than blame whatever gave women of every sexuality instance to be jaded weary cautious and tired and who'll complain every now and then and continue on with her life until she dies putting up with patriarchy. just welcome to the "woke" internet where misogyny's over and "man-hate" "shamed for not hating men" is worth springing to defences for
yeah i've only seen people talk like men's rights activists and think they're being unbelievably progressive on tumblr it's kind of fascinating. like i can see how seeing people hate on men could mess with people and stuff but you can't demand men appreciation posts that's literally the whole world outside of idk your tumblr dash (or even on your tumblr dash because fandom misogyny from people who think they're not misogynistic at all is really something). men get praised for "babysitting" their own kids like be serious? it's very let men be masculine
i don't think being like men are soooo gross and we hate them is actually constructive and it can definitely veer into transphobia (you'll always be a man/"a male" and thus a danger to women/why would you ever want to become a man they're the enemy and the bane of society etc) and homophobia relatively quickly?
but the way people ON TUMBLR ""combat that"" is often so off to me like if the most basic feminist principles offend you then i'm not really sure where to go from here. i remember seeing a post that was like "men aren't your enemy. they're your friend/brother/father/colleague/neighbor" with a lot of notes and like i don't know how to tell you this but that's literally who's most likely to harm a woman, the men she knows?😭 and obviously not every system of oppression is exactly the same but would you say the same thing to someone criticizing white people like...just very weird
i think women who are attracted to men and dating them making jokes about how they only tolerate being attracted to men because they have no choice and especially the whole i'm bi so i love every woman and only find 1 in a 1000 men attractive (very often said while in a relationship with a man) thing is obnoxious and annoying for like everyone who has to hear it lmao but also when women who date men make jokes about it (not about them being ugly or unattractive or whatever but about them being bad partners in general) it's like. what else are they going to do like you said they're gonna endure patriarchy for the rest of their lives and as girlfriends/wives/mothers they go through the most it's very bleak? idk. it's not like you can date a better man yourself out of patriarchy
of course men aren't a all as bad as the worst guy you can imagine and they're not all out to get you or whatever but saying things like "men don't all benefit from the patriarchy rich men benefit from the patriarchy but jake, 23, is not oppressing you" is like. kind of insane. jake, 14, was oppressing me like have you never interacted with boys in school😭 and it's not like it was entirely their fault we all have to outgrow misogyny it's just you know society etc but some of them never outgrow it lmao and just...the takes you see on feminism on tumblr are astounding i hate it here
#and like i do think that young guys who feel bad about themselves only having people who make them feel worse and who actively make them#worse like incels and idk youtube algorithms to turn to is a problem but like. again it's the same thing as white people who feel bad about#being white to me in a way like are women and GIRLS supposed to coddle them and say it's gonna be okay you're great even when they're#like actually harming them by being misogynistic to them? that's already what they're taught to do always#the notes on that male loneliness epidemic post i reblogged a few weeks ago still haunt me like OH MY GOD#and if you think misogyny isn't as prevalent anymore you're very naive. and probably misogynistic yourself#i'm not even sure young men being more feminist is true (well it's probably true when you compare it to like the 50s) but even#when men ARE like yeah women shouldn't have to do everything i can help with chores (the use of the word help is already a red flag lmao)#when you look at what they actually do they still do way less like i don't have links because these are tags on a tumblr ask but i read#somewhere that men think chores are 50/50 when they're only doing like 30% of the work? like it just seems hopeless#sometimes i'm happy and then i think about the mental load#sorry for not uplifting men 24/7 you can just hang out on the steve harrington tag or something there's actually a lot of people doing that#when someone said um does the ronance fandom not seem terfy to you...because of a post that was like can the lesbian ship ronance#be about the lesbian ship ronance not about steve A MAN#like you can't make this up#i meant it when i said the average tumblr user would benefit from being exposed to more misogyny like i swear they forget it's even a thing#like obviously they wouldn't BENEFIT from it lmao but their posts wouldn't be as dumb and that would benefit me🙏#ask

didn’t want to clutter up my friends donation post with my thoughts but I can’t even put into words the physical and mental effect homelessness and unstable housing (as in shelter is not a guarantee bc your living conditions are such that at any given moment you might become homeless again by being forced to leave - either literally or to protect yourself) has on a person, even just short term like within just a matter of days it’s fucking brutal. and weeks, months of that, it’s beyond brutal there’s no words …
like when u don’t have housing, just existing suddenly becomes 1,000x harder. ur ability to survive is so deteriorated. every second of every minute of every hour of every day ur fighting for ur life. all of ur energy is devoted to surviving each day and figuring out how ur gonna survive the following day, because it literally takes all ur energy to do that. at all times. it consumes you. when ur in that position, in high stress survival mode with no break/respite (can’t really take a break from homelessness lol), u start deteriorating so fucking fast in every way. ur stressed, tired, hungry, uncomfortable, unsafe, and u feel gross, dirty, depressed, heartbroken, anxious, scared, angry, so incredibly alone…. and the feeling of just, pure horror. you’re drowning or you’re falling from a great height with no parachute. and nobody is coming to save you. it’s bleak. if u can sleep, it’s out of pure exhaustion, and from the moment you wake up you’re plunged into a nightmare. mental resilience and emotional resilience are CRUCIAL to ur survival and ur motivation to survive but the stress and anxiety and pure horror of homelessness fucking deteriorates ur mental/emotional resiliency like it just wrecks it to hell scarily quickly. you’re operating at like 20% physically and mentally, in a situation that demands 100% at all times. It feels goddamn impossible to deal with, every moment. and the only reason it is possible to deal with it is because your body is alive. like, it’s a technicality. and you can genuinely feel the weeks, months, and years being taken off your life because of it all
Idk where I was going with this but goddamn knowing my friend and his poor sweet wife have been feeling all of that for months and now feeling hope being crushed and fear of it all happening again because the housing theyve found being unexpectedly unstable I just … it fucking sucks, to put it lamely. they don’t deserve that, they shouldn’t have to be dealing with that, because housing is a human right. or should be at least. So fuckin disheartening seeing them go thru this shit
a couple ppl have reblogged this post so in case more ppl rb this, im adding my friend’s donation info. please consider donating to him and his wife or boosting his donation post ❤️

i find it interesting how many people seem to be primarily mentioning tragedies in palestine and the like exclusively for the purpose of putting down other issues in the world, some genuinely less relevant (a tv show) or some that are like, also genuine issues (domestic terrorism??? i saw someone complain that people are concerned about another january 6 right wing riot when palestine is happening when like.... both things are worth discussing???)

How It Begins // ZERITH
Tumblr media
tw; for transformation from drider to drow once more
It had been agony all over again, excruciating in a way he would never be able to articulate. Perhaps there are no words for such a feeling as to be twisted and broken into a form of horror and nightmare… or to be returned to what once had been…
Yet, the demigoddess of Eilistraee had been so careful with him… soothing… at least, as much as she could be with what needed to be done.
She had held him in her arms as though he were some dear, precious thing rather than a monster. She had worked her magic and all the while murmured soft reassurances to him in the gentlest voice he had ever heard and he had anchored to that even through his agony and his screams that no doubt drew the shadows nearer, the suffering of another such keen temptation to their appetites.
He clung to her and he listened to the tone of her words, even as he screamed himself hoarse, even through the feeling of flesh and muscle and bone being set back into place, reformed to its original shape.
His original shape.
Kar'niss the Drider no longer, but instead… Zerith, the [ former ] paladin who had denounced the Dark Mother and been punished for it, who had been ensnared within the web of the Absolute and made her cleric…
When all was said and done and he was himself once more, the demigoddess—Halisstra—had taken her own cloak from around her shoulders and wrapped it about his bare and trembling form, still holding him to her.
[ There now. You are past the worst and now need only afford yourself the time to heal. How brave and strong you have been to endure as you have. Breathe. All will be well now. All will be well. ]
It was only then that he had realized he had been sobbing, whether from pain or relief or the total overwhelm or maybe all of it and more. He had turned to hide his face against her, one trembling hand clenched into the material of her tunic.
She had not pushed him away. Had not cursed the display of weakness. Had not said that she clearly had wasted her time on one so useless. She had simply held him closer, wrapped in her cloak, and rubbed his back, pet his hair, reassured him again and again that he is safe now and there is nothing to fear, no further torment he must suffer.
He had closed his eyes and listened to the steady beat of her heart and the soft hum of her voice as she had addressed the others.
[ You should make camp. He is in no state to travel even a few steps this night. ]
It had been agreed amongst the other travelers and, even as she continued her efforts to calm and to soothe, the camp had been set up around them…
Only once one of the others had retrieved spare clothes and a bedroll for him had she at last released him that she might see to the others, though not before first pressing the softest of kisses to his temple.
He does not understand.
Sitting now—so near to the campfire with his [ borrowed ] bedroll itself wrapped around him and yet still feeling as though he freezes—he watches them all, strange pink-tinted eyes shifting from one to the next, only to snap back to another when they move too quickly.
What game are they playing? More importantly, when will it turn against him?
[ And why does that stupid little voice in the back of his mind try to convince him that it is not so? ]
If he could only get his [ overwrought and still healing ] mind to clear, if he could only pick up all the fractured and shattered pieces and bring them once more to a whole… surely he would be able to figure it out. He could plan and prepare for whatever the next step might be in this twisted game, but it all keeps slipping through his fingers…

please stop scrolling and take the time to read this.
i don't think people understand the extent of the horror happening in palestine right now. "death" means nothing to people because of desensitisation so let me just tell you what white phosphorus is. it's being used in israeli munitions and has been and will continue to be fired across gaza and the palestinian borders.
white phosphorus burns when it comes into contact with oxygen (at nearly 800°C or 1500°F. the human body can withstand ~50°C for reference.) the air you breathe in ignites and it is near impossible extinguish. it sticks to clothing and skin and is very difficult to remove because it will continue to ignite in air. it burns flesh up to the bone and even past the bone because it penetrates tissue and is absorbed VERY easily. if you inhale it it'll destroy your respiratory tract and lungs. it can cause failure in multiple organs including the liver, kidneys and heart. it is being released in one of the most densely populated places on earth.
the only way to treat someone exposed to white phosphorus is to submerge them in saline or water and to pick out the substance with forceps, and when you undress a wound the substance can re-ignite. this is just ONE weapon that is being used to kill palestinian people right now. palestine does not have access to medical care, humanitarian aid, power, or internet. their hospitals are being bombed. gaza is one of the most densely populated places in the world with over 50% of the population being children. many children are the sole survivors of their families. there are videos of children experiencing panic attacks and symptoms of ptsd. the fact that israel has committed war crimes in plain sight means that we can only imagine what will happen to the palestinians in complete darkness.
israel has and will continue to deny this. your interests and fandom will still be here, you will wake up tomorrow morning and see your friends and family, but an entire nation of people are being wiped off the map. being silent is being complacent. reblog, spread information, tell people in real life, attend protests, sign petitions, call your government offices, at the very least be angry and upset and horrified because once you become numb and indifferent and hopeless the oppressors will have already won.
what's happening right now is more than a genocide and once it becomes a part of history we'll wonder how the world let this happen. genocides have been part of all nations. just because it is far away does not mean you don't have to be concerned. the fact that YOUR governments and YOUR idols and the people around YOU are supporting the mass eradication of an entire group of people should scare you. it shouldn't make you feel anything less than sick and angry and disgusted. DO something about it, no matter how small you feel your voice is, because palestinians no longer have one.
[edit] links to some helpful reblogs: one & two
post on how you can help palestine
learn about palestine with this masterlist of info
+ a further reblog of mine
[edit 2] about palestinians "not having a voice" at the time i wrote this post internet connection was cut off entirely and even journalists weren't able to report for a period of time — that is all i meant by that. they of course have a voice and i never meant to undermine how people are risking their lives in gaza to get information out there and i apologise if thats what people took from it, it was not my intention but it is entirely my bad. please continue to spread information and updates from gaza as they come.

Beating the Heat while Fat: A Summer Survival Guide
Summer is (almost) here and it’s going to be hotter than ever. If you’re fat (like me), you know how much hot weather sucks. Specifically, we get to deal with fun issues like underboob sweat, chub rub, skin fold sunburn, and more. And while I like to take a body neutral approach to everything, this can be hard in summer thanks to exclusion and neglect.
The thing is that not a lot of people really... talk about these things, though, because that would interfere with our image of summer. Not a lot of companies are marketing their stuff as a solution to fat people’s problems, because that would be acknowledging that fat people might actually want to go outside during summer.
Having been fat for many a summer now, I want to share some of my resources for enjoying summer! These are all based on personal recommendations and things I have directly experienced. Please feel free to reblog and add on with your experiences and recommendations!
However, if your commentary is even remotely fatphobic, you will be blocked and your comments will be deleted. This post is not for you, and nobody is actually interested in what you have to say!
Back and Underboob Sweat
Two words: Gold Bond. Gold Bond fixes this. It comes in powder, stick, and spray form. I’ve used the powder in shoes, but not on my body. They’ve recently released an invisible form of the spray, which I’m very excited about.
Spray this under your breast tissue or other skin folds, or on flat areas of skin like your lower back that tend to sweat. Some of their powders have aloe in them, which is delightfully soothing for the skin.
Make sure that if you’re sensitive to scent, you buy one of the unscented versions. The “fresh” scent is nice, but it is a scent!
When you’re using this type of spray, do it clean but dry. Don’t do it right after a shower- give your skin a chance to dry off. Lift your breast or skin fold, spray underneath, and then hold it for a couple of seconds to let the spray dry down.
You can also use other types of powder, like body powder or baby powder. There’s mixed evidence about talc-containing powder and its link to cancer, but some people do find talcum powder more irritating than talc-free powder, so whether or not you use this is up to you.
Do keep in mind that this is NOT sunscreen! Apply your sunscreen first for areas of exposed skin.
Chub Rub
Dealing with the tops of your thighs rubbing together is extremely unfun. There are a couple of ways I like to deal with this!
Slip Shorts
I actually reviewed a bunch of these a few years ago. Slip shorts or bike shorts are perfect for wearing under dresses or loose-fitting rompers as a way to stop your thighs from rubbing. As a bonus, if you’re using bike shorts, sometimes they come with extra pockets to stash stuff in.
Friction Sticks
If you’re wearing a swimsuit and don’t want to wear shorts, or just don’t want to wear shorts, period, then a friction stick is another good way to avoid chub rub! I have a couple, Bodyglide and Gold Bond.
If you’re buying Bodyglide, they have one that’s just as good, Bodyglide Outdoor, that is sometimes cheaper. There’s a Bodyglide “For Her” which I’ve never tried, but that’s usually more expensive and let’s be real, do you really need to moisturize your inner thighs? I think not!
There’s also creams you can use but I find those messy and less effective than the sticks. You might like them, though! Experiment with products to find the one(s) that work for you.
Friction sticks can also stop foot blisters. Rub a little on your heel, toe, or wherever you get hot spots.
Dealing With Sweat
I sweat, you sweat, we all sweat. Humans were meant to sweat. Sweating’s a good thing. But that doesn’t mean it’s fun, and frankly I hate being sweaty. Typically, fat people sweat more than thin people, for several reasons related to the way we thermoregulate.
Fortunately, there are lots of ways to make summer sweating less annoying. I’ve written about this before, so you can check out that post for some of my favorite tips for dealing with sweat. Here’s some of the highlights.
Evaporative Cooling
A bandanna or other wrap filled with water crystals can do AMAZING things. You can make this yourself really easily- if you can’t find water crystals, you can just use Orbeez. They sell little 99 cent packs of those in the checkout lines at some stores and at the dollar store, and you can make several cooling wraps with one packet.
You can also get evaporative cooling towels, like Frogg Toggs. I don’t like those as much because they tend to start smelling a little funny, but they’re great for larger area coverage.
Using these will help cool you down and will do the same thing that sweat does– without being sticky.
Hair
If you have long hair, get it off the back of your neck. I used to put it up in a bun with a bun former, but now I just use claw clips. They’re cuter and easier! Seriously, this will help you so much. Get the hair up and away from your skin, you’ll feel so much better.
Hand Fans
I always have a hand fan with me, but not one of the little battery operated ones. I’ve tried a lot of those! I even took one up a mountain once, and it was the only reason I survived. But they never provide the same level of breeze that my folding fan does.
I use this one because it’s cute, and you can get cute ones for a couple bucks on Amazon. I do prefer fabric to the stiff paper ones, just because they’re a bit more durable- I’ve had mine for years now. It’s good.
I’m also not a huge fan of those fans that go around your neck, but I’ve seen many people enjoying them. If they work for you, great!
Hydration and Electrolytes
Carry water with you when you go places, and if you’re gonna be out for a while doing anything strenuous, take some electrolyte tablets with you. I like Nuun because I think they taste good, but there’s lots of brands out there.
There’s no one mineral called electrolyte, just so you know. Electrolytes are a group of minerals that includes sodium, potassium, and chloride as the primary (or significant) electrolytes. Electrolytes are important because they have a natural positive or negative electrical charge when dissolved in water. This electricity is how your nerves transmit information and how your cells make your muscles contract, so low levels of electrolytes can cause some serious issues. Different electrolyte imbalances have different symptoms, but common symptoms include nausea, fatigue, confusion, tremors, muscle spasms (cramps), and dizziness.
If you’re feeling those as you’re moving around outside, get somewhere cool, drink some water, and either eat some food or add electrolyte tablets to your water. This will help stabilize you quickly!
Skin Fold Sunburn Prevention
Everybody should wear sunscreen, period. End of story.
But if you’re applying sunscreen by yourself and you have skin folds, it can be a pain to reach them! This is especially true for any folds that form on your upper back or around your upper arm.
These areas can burn and be very painful, especially if you’re in swimwear or a sleeveless top. It’s also VERY easy to forget that these areas need sunscreen!
If you don’t want or don’t have someone to help you apply those areas you can’t reach, spray sunscreen can be a way to get those areas. If you don’t like the spray or want heavier coverage with a cream, then use a lotion applicator!
If the stick style doesn’t work for you (like if you have shoulder mobility issues), the strap style asks for a different range of motion. If you can’t find one that works for you at a big box store, look at a pharmacy. These are often sold as disability aids or for elderly people with a reduced range of motion.
But honestly, one of the most important things about this is just knowing your body. Know where your skin folds are and think about how they move as you’re applying sunscreen. Get underneath them- as you move, those areas can be exposed to the sun, too.
So yeah, that’s my best advice for beating the heat while fat. If you’ve got other tips, feel free to share them!
