Just looking back on the Frontiers prequel comic for the first time in months and hmm would ya look at that 👀

Eggman already wishing for one of his creations to make him proud for a change

Already praising Sage and himself for being the one to develop her and saying she was made to protect him

And already seeing her as his latest greatest creation capable of doing the job, in his usual boastful egotistical fashion

Eggman taking pride in and praising Sage in itself wasn't character development in Frontiers, it's what he was looking for in his creation obviously, and even this prequel comic is sure to establish that. And even without this, that would be the case with how he's always been when it comes to his creations.

Like I've been saying, throughout the entire story of Frontiers, Eggman literally only praises Sage for the exact reasons he created and programmed her to do in the first place. And it's also only when she does exactly what he wants her to, while we see her giving him any less or different makes him angry at her.

He obviously created her with the hopes she'd be loyal and efficient like he said in the Egg Memo 19, made her with initiative to protect him which only she later applied love to that she learned from Sonic and friends alone. And he was already confident in her being able to do so because he created her- just like he'd also go on to say about it being "because her dad is a genius"

I especially love how in this comic, it's clear that he's already intending and hoping for all of that and even says it aloud right before the events of the game. And how it's while he's around Sage and groaning over how frustrating Orbot and Cubot are for their incompetence

It's as if that after this, Sage worked hard to put that effort in to be the one who could make him proud, while Eggman was already looking for those qualities in his creation the beginning, making him especially open for the chance to prove herself and impress him this way too.

And they do indeed continue to be all the very same reasons he ends up praising and valuing her in both the Egg Memos and scenes whenever she manages to follow through with his orders in a satisfactory amount, so it really seems like that's what happened and it worked lol

That's combined with how he's already praising himself as her genius creator for why she's so impressive and efficient, just like in Egg Memo 19 too! The only change is he ends up seeing her a being instead of just a program as she takes a human-like form, which can be even more impressive of a creation of his that way, which he says in the memos too.

So again, egotistical, self-centered, self-praising reasons are behind every aspect being praising and valuing Sage and they were already there before the events of the game. It wasn't Eggman growing to be a better person and feel genuine love, the story instead does a good job at showing us how Eggman is only capable of valuing something that benefits him and he can take pride in as usual, and I hugely prefer that! 💜

ngl i prefer it when orbot and cubot are just Those Two Guys. metal, sage and even belle are eggman's children, but orbot and cubot are just kinda. there.

yeah. that's orbot and cubot. one of them sings showtunes in the basement and tries to hide it. the other one sings showtunes in the basement and doesn't try to hide it.

yeah. that's orbot and cubot. we don't know what the hell their bond is, but they're certainly something. they love my kids but my kids barely know them.

❄️✨❄️REMINDER THAT IDW SONIC WINTER JAM IS OUT!!! ❄️✨❄️

I'd love to talk about some neato things I got to draw in the comic! Spoiler warning for some contents below! If you haven't read anything yet, come back after reading the comic!

Let's start off with the cover thumbnails! I was more inclined to do A since it wouldn't spoil the big surprise Orbot and Cubot had in store! Otherwise I probably would've gone with B or D! It has that bombastic party sort of feel that I think would've been super fitting!

Here, Eggman is temporarily staying at one of his many bases throughout the world after the collapse of his Eggperial city! This base is inspired by Industria from Future Boy Conan and a bit of Eggmanland!

He also sure loves his chicken and fries!

A little beachside balcony in Green hill! I felt like we generally don't get structures there as much so I thought it'd be a nice addition!

The design on the floor is the stage from the JP Sonic X intro! It gets covered up by snow after but still neat to include!

Look at this magnificent cast of characters! I wanted to use the poses that each pair had when they were first seen together! I'd considered giving Big his winning animation pose from SA1 but alas no space haha!

Cubot's taped on eye brow gag was one I suggested and it's a reference to the same gag from FLCL!

Lil sonic team logo Iasmin asked for! Sonic sure knows to appreciate himself! Good on him.

And here's a sonic 3 wreath and the SA2 lock on reticle from the mechs!

Amy and cream's spread of delicious looking food beautifully rendered by the coloring god Reggie! I wanted to include all their items from the Official Sonic the Hedgehog Cookbook! So if you want to make them yourself, YOU CAN! (except for uhh the experiment on another panel. you guys can figure out what's in that yourselves haha)

Also made sure to list all the pages you can find the recipes!

This is one of my fav gags that Iasmin wrote in!! Can you all guess what this is meant to vaguely resemble?

Quick round of character refs from Eggman's screen going in order from left to right! [Conductor's wife and Conductor, Barry and Gadget, Early Conductor design, Early Barry design (his outside eye markings are white tho), My uh Sonicsona lol]

Mecha Sonic mark 3? Yep Iasmin wanted him to be there and so there he shall be!! Hopefully we get to see him again!

I remember seeing the story Iasmin made and it really felt like it could be something you'd see in a sonic anime episode if it were made nowadays. I drew the comic with some influence from Sonic X because of that. I think the most telling detail fans might notice is the constant 3 spines for Sonic.

SONIC PRIME SEASON 3 SPOILERS BELOW !!!

ok i think i have my thought sorted a little now after watching the third season and i need to mention a few things !!

THE AMYS ACTING AND CALLING THEMSELVES SISTERS WAS A DYNAMIC I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED

Mangey slamming his head against the controls of the robot to make it work took me out I laughed so hard

DREAD IS ALSO BACK BEING HIS OLD SELF THANK GOD

Sonic !! And Shadow's dynamic !! They work so well together and I enjoy looking at them fight !!

Sonic doing some emotes and references to old games again is wonderful

Shadow just being so done with Sonic sometimes but still sticks to his side to save his butt

This scenes. Just this scene.

Sonic being utterly shocked when Nine created a robot from Big. I enjoy Sonic's genuine friendship to Big, even when we barely see it because he cares for the big guy a lot.

NINE !! GOD I LOVE HOW NINE HAS BEEN WRITTEN THANK GOD THEY STICKED THROUGH WITH THIS we so badly needed a Tails who flips the way he did

And the whole fight scenes were SO incredible and nice to look at GOOD JOB AT THE ANIMATIONS !! The characters felt SO alive and I genuniely enjoyed watching them all fight !!

Even the Council was rather nice these last few episodes, tho I'm glad they're gone for good

Sonic being absolutely glad and happy that he found Shadow again god they care for each other so much.

All the Rouges. They were amazing.

Shadow's ' I'M THE ULTIMATE LIFE FORM ' always hits

THE MUCH NEEDED HUG BETWEEN SONIC AND NINE AWWWW

SOMETHING feels like it's missing but I can't really pinpoint what it is. It felt a bit ... Unfinished at the end, but maybe because it's supposed to be in the 'original Sonic timeline' and canon. Even tho I can't tell exactly where.

Considering we have Cubot and Orbot it might be after Sonic Colors. But that's all I can really say about it.

All in all ? I enjoyed Sonic Prime. A lot. We needed a show which felt this alive and the animations of it were top notch. I'll be sad we won't have another season of it anymore but maybe we get a new series with a similar style.

And even tho he isn't liked by most of the community, I love Prime Sonic. He may be dumb and barely reads the air correctly: He felt like 'Sonic' to me, to be honest. 💙

So, the Knuckles Show...

It was a hassle to attempt and find the show somewhere else (pirate if you wanna watch), and also I had a lot going on that day, BUT!

I have finally finished all six episodes of Knuckles, and my final thoughts...!

...It was pretty good.

Honestly, nothing to ground-breaking and outstanding but it was fantastic and such a lovely treat to hardcore Knuckles fans. Like me lol. (It may not look like it, but TRUST ME THIS SHOW TURNED ME INTO A HARDCORE KNUCKLES FAN.)

All of my thoughts are under the cut, but to make a long story short, I really enjoyed it! (Forgive this post and me I'm not the best at sharing reviews DX)

Now, some things I wanna point out... (MASSIVE SPOILERS AND PERSONAL HEADCANONS AHEAD)

THOUGHTS ON CHARACTERS

I really liked Wade Whipple. He's goofy, and dorky, and he was fantastic for saving his family and Knuckles. His character arc was really interesting to watch, and he's got a lot of funny moments. Him and Knuckles also make a great team. I believe he would make a great Uncle for Knuckles. XD

Knuckles' arc was fantastic too. I was hoping that he realizes that Earth is his home, and he did. The Movie Series version of Knuckles is definitely my favorite version of Knuckles. EVER. Love this character to death. Number one favorite character right now.

The story was pretty good, too. Interesting that Knuckles isn't the only main focus, but I was onboard with the idea that Wade is also in the spotlight. I liked Wade but I love him A LOT.

The whole drama with Wade's family was something that honestly caught me off guard, but in a good way. It's just great to see more of his extended family. (And Wade's mother and is just so sweet and cool.)

Mason and Willoughby were fun to watch. Almost better than Orbot and Cubot, honestly. XD

The Buyer... I kind of forgot about him until the last few episodes. XD Cool villain, though!

Pachacamac... Never thought I would actually enjoy this character. Really wish he got enough screen time, dude is so hilarious. So much better than the Pachacamac we all knew from Adventure 1 pffffft. And hearing Doc Brown's voice coming out of Mac's mouth was the best part. He fits the role perfectly.

WACHOWSKI FAMILY CRUMBS! WE GOT TO SEE MORE OF THE WACHOWSKIS! It was only for one episode, but it's just so refreshing to see Knuckles with his newfound family, especially Tails. (Even though he didn't get enough screentime.)

No Donut Lord... 😔

MY HEADCANONS OF THE EVENTS DURING THE SHOW (and afterwards)

The house is still in construction after the second film. I have a feeling that the Knuckles show took place probably a month or two after the second film. (Or at least after the baseball field scene from the movie.)

And if that's the case, then it's probably why Sonic and Tails haven't called Maddie "mom" yet. Sonic JUST made Donut Dad official, but not hearing Sonic calling Maddie "mom" didn't surprise me, actually. Since he had a mother figure once before, and now she's gone. Sonic is probably still struggling to make Mama Maddie official after that whole mess. 🥺

And also I think Tails does look at Tom and Maddie as his parents, but calls them by their first names because that's what he's most comfortable with for now.

Sonic mentions that Tails and Knuckles are his roommates. ...Something tells me that he hasn't realized the bigger picture yet. 😈 Once the realization hits, it's over for the middle child.

I seriously don't believe Knuckles is sticking with the Whipples. He's got a bed at home, and "pretzel woman" is a motherly title of sorts for Maddie. I just think Knuckles and Wade have formed a really strong bond. Wade is more of a uncle figure for him, but the Whipples are part of the Wachowskis regardless. 💕

I bet Knuckles' grape stash that the moment Knuckles walks back home with Wade, Sonic, Tails and Maddie (and Tom if he came home) freaks the hell out because he just straight up left home without an explanation. Especially since he's grounded and shouldn't have step foot out of the house. But all that matters is that Knuckles is at home with his family. Did this calm everybody down? No, and yes. It's hard to explain. (At least Sonic knows now that Knuckles can finally relax.)

Ever since the events of the Knuckles Show, seeing visions of Pachacamac is pretty normal for Knuckles, whether he needs to be guided for something even if it's small, or he just casually shows up in his dreams just to say "hi." I feel like since he visited Wade while he was unconscious, I think Pachacamac would also visit other people's dreams or visions. It be so goddamn funny if this dude just randomly show up in Sonic's dream, scaring the living daylights out of him, and when he explains it to Knuckles, he's like: "Oh, that's just Mac, he's cool." and Sonic is like: "???????"

THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODES - Fair warning, I've only seen these episodes ONCE (Including some clips I rewatched on Tumblr.) so some things here might be fuzzy or wrong, so bare with me here...

Episode 1 was a great start. I love the dynamic Sonic and Knuckles has. Bummer that we didn't get to see more of them together, but with the power of writing, that problem can be solved! (HUZZAH!) I love the small bit with Knuckles and his mother Maddie after he got grounded and how he just, took it okay with the fact that he's grounded. And I love Sonic trying to help his new buddy out, he's an absolute sweetheart for that. Pachacamac's appearance in the episode took me by surprise and he was such a joy to watch. Love the elderly goofball. Seeing Knuckles and Wade interact was nice, too, even when he gets to talk about his dad. It was a nice moment. And Knuckolas Cage. Best nickname ever, how dare Knuckles decline such a title for a perfect warrior XD

Episode 2 was great. Absolutely love the daydream scene with Wade's plan on saving Knuckles from the G.U.N. agents, and Holding Out For a Hero playing in the background. GOLDEN. Don't remember much else other than that and Knuckles and Wade rocking out to so music. (And Knuckles breaking the radio again.)

Episode 3 is when we get to see Wade's family members, and it was nice. Wanda is one of those siblings that we had and Wendy (is that her name?) is just so lovely. We got to know more of Knuckles' dad, and once more, it was a tender moment between an Echidna and a dork-ass Uncle. 😊 And we got a EPIC fight scene with Knuckles, Wendy and the goons. It was AWESOME. Also, love Wade's room. He's got good taste.

Episode 4... Oh, my God. It was a fever dream. Literally. It was so RIDICULOUS but it was the greatest thing I've ever seen in a long time. XD I love musical numbers that just come out of NOWHERE, and this was one of them! Adam Pally (Wade) in a Knuckles costume is just the most elegant thing. AND ECHIDNA MUPPETS ARE REAL! I WAS HOPING THAT THEY WOULD ACTUALLY BRING IN THE ECHIDNA MUPPET!! Jokes aside, it was a strangely epic episode of Wade going through Knuckles' past in a unique way. And the songs were pretty great. ...You think that's where all the budgeting went? On this gorgeous musical number? /j Also we got more of my boy Pachacamac, being one of my favorite characters besides Knuckles lmao GOD I wish we got more of Pachacamac. I love him so much XD

Episode 5 Is when they arrive at Reno. It was alright. We got to see Wade meeting his dad finally (also Knuckles is using a phone no problem I guess??) I think that's all I remember. WE GOT KNUCKLES WITH THE HAT THOUGH SO YEAH!

Episode 6 is the last one of the mini series and it was pretty kick-ass. More cool fight scenes, with Knuckles and the Agents, him against the Buyer, which was short and sweet, but still pretty intense. Wade and Pete was competing in bowling. Kept forgetting about that, but it was cool regardless. And Wade being the best uncle ever and protecting Knuckles while he was out. Also kind of forgot a lot from this episode, but nonetheless, badass way to end the mini series. Complete with the classic freeze frame of Knuckles and Wade getting a high five! Knuckles realizing that his home is on Earth was such a powerful scene. It was the first Sonic movie all over again.

And yes, there was a pretty quick post credits scene where Knuckles found a song and claimed it was his jam. It was really cute. XD

Really wish there was a scene where Knuckles came back home to the Wachowskis with the family flipping the lid over the fact that he left the house, but in my heart I know damn well it happened. I know this series too well lmao

That's pretty much all I wanna say about how this show made me feel. It was a fun time. Not was insane as Movie 1 and 2, but still as enjoyable.

Honestly, after watching this, I hope we get a Wachowski family TV show, where it's just the family on misadventures, and moments together that are comedic, fluffy, angst, any emotion you wanna feel watching it, and it's just a good time. I just wanna see more of this goofy little growing family. (Also it'd be cool if season 1 was after the first movie because I wanna see Sonic adjusting to his new life with Tom and Maddie and spending traditions and holidays with them before the sequel.) I love this series too much. 😅

This show got me really ambitious to work on my stories and I really wanna show the community how amazing these characters are. (I just need to get an AO3 in the future...)

It feels good to be back on the Wachowski bandwagon.

The Knuckles Show is flawed, but it was a fun time. I love the characters, I love the story, I love the choice of songs they used, and of course, I love Knuckles. This is the best we've ever seen of Knuckles, and I'm proud of how far this little, tough guy has came.

The Echidna Warrior made his debut 30 years ago, and he's never been stronger. Keep on punching, Knuckles! 😎💕

What do ya think Metal Sonic and Sage would get Eggman for father's day?

Hahhaha first of all: Do they have access to an external source of info, or is it just the Eggnet? I suspect he controls their information, which would mean someone either had to tell them about father's day, or Eggman put that there hoping they would notice. Leaning on the latter. That's so jokes.

Sage takes the traditional route: Her research suggests that a card, breakfast in bed, and some kind of Manly Gift is appropriate. She prints off a card, but compared to her reference data, it is too clinical. The card must be homemade, so she tries to do that. Because she is an AI, however, she spawns a weird generated card that reads something 'Day off Fahers! Is you." With an image like one of these (first time using an ai art generator, I feel dirty)

M8 I was gonna open these and look closer, but this site crashed my phone. Fuck AI. Not Sage though she's a cutie. Anyway...

While Sage is occupied with the loving gestures, Metal Sonic is sure he knows what gift will make him the best child: Sonic, captive and ready for execution. He launches a series of attacks to trap and capture Sonic, Tom and Jerry, Road Runner style. Sonic actually has a blast with this, because it's more fun than judt fighting - he has puzzles to do to get out of this net!

On the day of, Metal Sonic is desperate, but Sonic's heart isn't in it - it's a lonely day to be an orphan Hedghog. Still, Metal all but wrecks his body to capture Sonic, and turns up with a bag of feral hedgehog and bits of his own body and armour he's lost and picked up as he goes. Sage tries to fix him quick before Eggman wakes up, but Sonic breaks out of his cage again. He sees the awful card, cake made by machines, weeds Sage has picked, and that his cage has a bow on top, and gets back in before Metal can notice.

Eggman acts like he didn't expect anything for Father's day, despite having put reminders in both their calendars this year. He is impressed that Sage has hoaned her AI generator so much as to create 'abstract art' for him, and is only mildly poisoned by the 'cake'. He presumes Metal Sonic's present for him is the chance to fix him up better, until he (shakily, with only one arm) pulls the curtain to reveal Sonic sitting in a cage.

Sonic allows Eggman a whole minute of patting Metal's head before he breaks out the cage, and tells Eggman he's lucky he has such loving kids, before he breaks out the Eggbase. Metal Sonic is devastated, and Sage tries to pursue Sonic but just isn't up to the job. Eggman assures them both that they are his favourite tools of destruction. The attending badniks, including Orbot and Cubot, sadly go about their days.

BUT WHAT IF EVIL SONIC AU WIP? *slides him towards you*

i think i was going for an organic metal type of look to really sell that hes with eggman/evil

then we have some fun doodles to help me jot some fun ideas down, and also make them silly

For characters I think:

tails in terms of appearance would be basically boom tails but I think personality wise I have the idea that he’s still an smart pants but like… snarky about it with Amy if you get what I mean, and also he doesn’t really care about the things he makes, like if he made a sentient robot he’d be indifferent about it and if it got destroyed he would be like oopsie daisy I’ll probably have to make a new one

Then to Amy I think shed be more inline with fleetway amy, since she never met sonic here she never tried to be more girly to get his intention. Sometimes she gets exasperated with tails being annoying and is sometimes concerned about the robot thing, because she still cares about all forms of life but knows he’s a good person at heart and sticks with him

For knuckles, I’m still thinking of what to do with him, whether to keep him the same or make some major changes but at the moment he’s pretty much normal knuckles

For sonic I think he’d be a sore loser and have a short fuse, he is still supposed to be a kid after all… he was raised by eggman what do you expect but still the cocky never gives up kind of guy as well which correlates with how he is previously stated to be. I think when he first met tails and friends they probably underestimated him but they quickly got the upper hand and now he just doesn’t like them, especially tails since he always says he’s ‘copying ivo’ on the fact that he makes machines as well. Then eggman, a big change to him would be that he cares about his robots, he considers them family, and he actually has a caring bone in his body which is why he took sonic in and raised him, doesn’t pummel orbot and cubot etc etc, which is supposed to be in contrast to tails with his nonplus care about what happens to robots and eggman doesn’t like that. He doesn’t care what happens to tails and all the other mobians, the only organic I think he cares about is sonic because of their history. But despite all that he’s still an evil guy bent on ruling the world, but he’s not heartless (that’s debatable for tails and friends because they don’t. Think he actually cares about sonic and just keeps him around to make tails and Amy hesitate when attacking because they would be hurting a fellow mobian)
