"Are you hurt?" Sizhui asks anxiously, jumping off his sword to tun towards Lady Xuanyu.
"Nah," she says, wincing as she stresses. "Well, nothing important."
"You're bleeding!" Jingyi shouts at a really unnecessary pitch. He unsheathes his sword and points it at Song Lan. "What did you do?"
"Stop that," she scolds, knocking his sword down. "Go get Xiao Xingchen and the girl. He's probably really confused right now."
Song Lan's expression clears and he bows to her before flying off.
His father jerks as if to go after him and Lady Xuanyu calls out, "Leave him be! He's doing what I said."
Lan Wangji hesitates, but nods and finally descends to join them. He towers over Lady Xuanyu, looking down at her with a fierce glare that makes Sizhui cringe even though it's not directed towards him. "What happened?"
"Found Xiao Xingchen, found Xue Yang, Song Lan killed him," she says, not even so much as lowering her eyes. "Xue Yang, not Xiao Xingchen, obviously. Wasn't this guy supposed to be killed during the war or something? It was a little before my time, so to speak."
"Song Lan is unharmed and you are not," his father says, lifting a hand to press it against the sluggishly bleeding wound in her shoulder.
Lady Xuanyu hisses at the contact but doesn't pull away. "He's a more experienced cultivator. Give me a couple hours and they'll be all closed up."
It used to take days for Lady Xuanyu's golden core to heal anything more complicated than a paper cut. She's strengthened it to the point that what would have been weeks of healing is reduced to just a day.
"He should have protected you," Sizhui says stubbornly. He'd rather she didn't have to heal at all. "Why did you run off with him anyway?"
"Had a hunch and figured I'd be back before you noticed," she says. Jingyi sputters. "Also, I don't need him to protect me, geez. He's a more experienced cultivator, but I still am one. I've gotten more hurt in training."
It's true, but Sizhui doesn't like that either. To harm ones body without cause is against the rules. Perhaps it's not entirely without cause, considering her rapid growth, but none of their teachers had ever beat them as badly as she demands the disciples beat her, and their cores had all turned out fine.
"What hunch did you have?" his father asks.
She winces and says, "Oh, you know, womanly intuition."
It's a lie and not even a very good one.
Lan Wangji's eyes narrow but they're interrupted by Song Lan returning with two people balanced precariously on his sword. Sizhui assumes the other man clad all in white must be Xiao Xingchen but doesn't know who the blind girl that looks to be about his age is.
"Xuanyu!" the girl calls out joyously, causing him to reevaluate his assessment of blind. She's being awfully familiar with his step mother. The girl leaps from the sword before it's fully on the ground and goes running towards them, shoulder pass Lan Wangji to body slam into Lady Xuanyu. "You're still alive, right? You said you would be!"
Lady Xuanyu laughs, closing her arms around the girl's shoulders. Her shoulder is bleeding again now that his father isn't keeping pressure on it. Cant the girl see that she's injured? "Yes, yes, I'm still alive. Excellent work keeping Xiao Xingchen out of the fray, A-Qing. I knew I could depend on you."
The girl - A-Qing, apparently - glows under the praise, beaming up at Lady Xuanyu, still with her arms around her waist.
What's her problem anyway?

Requested by anonymous: Hello! Requests are open so I'll take advantage! How would Xichen, Cheng, Guangyao, Xingchen and Yang react to a reader who is an elf? What would they think of her different face shape, different eye color, different ear shape, different fighting style and different language she speaks? (she might speak their language, but in her homeland she would speak her Elvish language) THX!!!
Pairing: Untamed boys x reader
A/N Looked up the Lan rules for this, did not know that the existence of Wei Wuxian added about 500 to 1000 extra rules to the original 3000. Definitely not surprised though, if anything I'm impressed.
Lan Xichen:

which Xichen takes very seriously
so meeting you does shock him, but he does not judge
(in all fairness, elves don't look that different from visuals seen in the show)
there is one thing that fascinates him most, which is the glow surrounding you
it confuses him, because he does not understand why it is happening at all
he is fairly quick in getting to know you
is a bit surprised that you are so happy to speak to him
gladly learns your culture and even tries to learn your language
the culture is fine, the language is actually impossible for him
even with how much he loves to learn, he is fairly quick to give up
well, quick is a loose term
give or take 3 months
for Lan's, this is quick to giving up
but loves to listen to you talk to him in your language
loves hearing you sing in your language as well or when you play music
that he does learn
harps are not that different from guzhengs in a way
so he matches his style to yours, and it honestly doesn't sound to bad
besides, it's a way to spend time with you
so overall, he's great

but I think he might be a bit off putting
he's not mean, just very judgmental
and he doesn't really hide that
he thinks you look weird at first
the pointy ears look weird and your eyes make him uncomfortable
not really, he just says that
because it actually fascinates him so much
he saw you once, sparring against Wuxian
his mother had disapproved, so he followed
yet he could not tear his eyes from your form
your style, unlike the rougher one he was taught, was elegant
to the point that you seemed weightless
you caught him staring multiple times, yet are confused as to why he remains so on guard and mean
one comment is the last drop and you lash out

and it does also change everything
he actually talks to you
because you force him to sit down and talk to you
which finally reveals his true nature and train of thoughts
overall, he is interested
very focused when you reminiscence about your home
but he just needed a little push in the right direction

you know the drift on this one
cause I don't sugar coat him
now, what your use is to him depends on when you meet him
before everything, he kind of just needs you as some kind of support (like Xichen is)
if it's after everything, it's more like the use of Xue Yang
which soon enough will also happen even when you meet him before everything
will first try to gain your trust, of course
acts innocent and sweet, compliments you and uses the fact that you're both outcasts
and it kind of works..?
eventually, when you're friends, he starts being more himself
small comments to others and how he wished that they fell from grace
and soon enough, he'll comment about wishing for their deaths
now you saw how they treated him, so you didn't really see wrong in those statements
once he notices that you're comfortable with such things, he starts suggesting
knowing full well that your fighting skills would make you unnoticeable and fast
you're appalled at first
which makes him orchestrate a scenario
someone tries to "attack" him and maybe even "kill" him
and you defend him, which end up in the other's demise
you kind of become an overprotective friend, in a way
Guangyao is sure to tell you who is a threat to him and who isn't
is not shy of lying to you
but all that aside, he is also interested in you as a person
or your kind, if anything
because having you on his side, has them on his side
will turn into an isolation friendship at that point
maybe not the best person to befriend
Xiao Xingchen:

Let's say you meet before he goes blind
I don't think he cares in the slightest
he travels a lot with Song Lan and thus sees quite a lot of things
it is definitely not the most surprising thing to see for him
what is surprising is that you're not an evil being
unlike most different "species"
he's still wary of you of course
because you act different like people normally do, whether it being because of culture or just your personality
but he is still fascinated nonetheless
because he likes to know everything
in a good way
so he will ask you stuff
and be prepared, cause it will be a list to go through
his biggest fascination is your eyes
yes, ironic, I know
because it's not a feature that he often sees
if ever
you're ears, as pointy as they are, don't seem weird
he's seen other people with pointy ears before, just not like yours
if you have blond or red hair, he would also be completely enthralled with it
is kind of glad when you ask to join him and Song Lan
consults Song Lan, but it ultimately it ends up being yes
Xiao Yang:

you meet before he gets involved with Guangyao
give or take, he's 16 years old (He's probably around 17 or 18 when the series takes place, just speculation though)
he's roaming the streets, looking for good victims to pickpocket
he sees you
you looked innocent enough, an easy target
so he creeps closer, hand reaching to your bag
he feels the material of a money pouch and slowly wraps his hand around it
then he's staring up at the sky
and his arm is awkwardly twisted in a position that was paralyzing the rest of his body completely
"You breath too loudly"
the tone is mocking him and he does not appreciate it in the slightest
but the slightest movement made pain shoot up through his body, so he just laid their
the sun created a halo around your head and your eyes were practically glowing thanks to their bright color
he's left in awe for a few seconds before he starts to trash in your grasp
you're kind enough to let him go, watching with glee as he jumped up
he was glaring at you before he walked off
when he sees you the next time, the day after, he wants to retry
so he takes a deep breath before holding it and approaching you once more
his hand grazes the money pouch once more before he is pushed backwards, falling to the ground with a loud thud
you just smirk at him
he tries a third and even a fourth time, but fails every time
yet you always show him that stupid smirk that never fails to send a shiver up his spine
he doesn't understand how you hear him coming, he's never had trouble before
it's the fifth time that he tries that he succeeds
so he runs off, he never runs
only to discover the pouch to be completely empty
he will run back immediately
does not say anything except for 'teach me'
he wants to get better at pickpocketing and your fighting style intrigue him

Due to an experiment gone wrong, Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao switch personalities (not souls!) for a while
Or a lot less people get killed because Xue Yang is too busy stopping his boss from committing crimes in broad daylight.
Hmmmmm, this one's a toughie. I hope you don't mind notes instead of fic.
Okay, first off, I can't decide which is funnier, Jin Guangyao mouthing off at every opportunity, or Xue Yang trying to be the politest one in the room while developing a subtle eye twitch.
Imagine Xue Yang having to be the mature one and make excuses to keep Jin Guangyao away from his father and Jin-furen so he doesn't snap and do something he'll regret later the first time Jin Guangshan insults him or Jin-furen hits him.
Also imagine Jin Guangshan caring so little that he doesn't even notice the changes, which only pisses off Jin Guangyao more and makes Xue Yang have to try even harder.
What would be really funny is if this were to actually fix things between Jin Guangyao and Nie Mingjue. After all, the thing that pisses Mingjue off the most about Jin Guangyao is the fact that he does terrible things while trying to frame them in the softest and most necessary way possible. So if he were to just bluntly admit he constantly thinks about fixing his problems with murder, and is feeling especially murdery towards his dad and Nie Mingjue himself, Mingjue wouldn't be pleased that he's on the death list, but he'd probably respect Jin Guangyao for admitting to wanting to kill him.
Now they can settle the matter properly! With a fight!
It ends with both badly injured and Lan Xichen and Nie Huaisang freaking out over their injuries and the fact that they almost killed each other, but this... is good???? Sort of????
(Not sure how long it'll stay good after Jin Guangyao gets his original personality back, but hey, maybe he won't want to throw this new version of their relationship out completely? Now that he knows Mingjue values his being honest about his feelings, even when they're homicidal?)
It would also be deeply funny if the personality switch results in him being more outright flirtatious to Huaisang, who doesn't know how to respond to this in the slightest and gets reduced to a blushing mess on the regular.
It would also be deeply funny if Xue Yang-with-Jin Guangyao's personality keeps creeping out Mo Xuanyu by being all soft-spoken brotherly politeness to him even as he's describing the nasty experiments they'll be working on together. This is weird. This is weird. Yao-ge, please fix this ASAP, he doesn't know how to deal with this!
Since I'm not sure whether or not Qin Su would be pursuing Jin Guangyao seriously yet, I'm also not sure how she would play into this. Would he flirt with her as much as he does Huaisang? (sangyaosu agenda momentarily creeping in here) Or would he avoid her to keep from embarrassing himself?
They spend almost a month struggling to keep this mostly under wraps and trying to fix it themselves, and then when the next full moon happens, surprise! They get poofed back to normal for no apparent reason and are confused as hell as to how the fuck and why???? Also, they are immediately destroying every piece of the experiment that caused the whole mess in the first place, with a much-relieved Mo Xuanyu's assistance.

I've noticed that, probably due to a desire to alleviate the grim nature of the original, many xuexiao fanfic writers opt to focus on (twisted or fluffy) romantic feelings of the characters. The emphasis ends up being on their romantic / platonic / sexual attraction rather than their incredibly juicy ideological contest and the antagonistic tension mixed with intrigue that Xue Yang shows towards Xiao Xingchen. Basically, there is too much 'lovers / froends' and not enough 'enemies' in their enemies - to - lovers / friends story. (I'm not criticising that. I'm a sucker for their mushier side too. But I'm equally a sucker for a good brutal battle of creeds.)
So let me fill this gap by describing how DELICIOUS the exploration of the 'you're my enemy and u SUCK and your worldview is RIDICULOUS but I LOVE rotating you in the microwave testing the limits of your resolve' aspect is or can be. I'll use some moments from the show / novel that I find striking in this regard.
XXC is very kind but lacks the worldly experience to be spot - on empathetic (as others have pointed out). He's also rigid to a fault. This is a VERY unpopular interpretation of mine but I believe he can be selfish / negligent in his goodness - he sheds caution about possible repercussions on his near ones in his mission to fight evil. He was smart enough to figure out the Chang massacre and trace it to XY. He knows XY is incredibly vengeful and creative in his vengeance. He's had experience with powerful people who will obstruct justice. Yet he goes ahead with prosecuting XY even when Jin Guangshan acts shady and uncooperative. Didn't he consider that this might put a target on his well - known partner Song Lan ?
Welp, then the Baixue bloodbath happens and XXC very understandably blames himself. I know we like to say it wasn't his fault, and of course it technically wasn't, but he did commit a grave error in not thinking through the consequences. It could be a miscalculation, negligence or even cavalier tunnel - vision, depending on your opinion. But anyway, XXC's morale is shattered and as others (like ameliarating) have said, he determined to never end up harming others in his quest for righteousness again.
XY wiped out Baixue for revenge, but also to kill XXC's hopes and vision, again also mentioned by others. May be a stretch, but it could be XY's way of saying 'hah, you don't care to understand why the world is as awful as it is, and then blame ME for doing shitty things to live it up in a shitty world. So let me show you how things actually work, and why my existence and lifestyle are valid.' It's like a really fucked up method of self - affirmation for XY. (Just in case - I am neutral on XY's actions. The novel doesn't give us much insight into his thoughts, so I'll withhold judgement on the nature vs. nurture debate about XY. But he's definitely an interesting character).
Then XY starts infiltrating XXC's life in Yi City. Why does he stick around after healing ? I like to think it's initially because he's a) taking advantage of XXC's generous freebies cuz why not and b) wants to torment him, yes, but he's also very very curious about XXC. Maybe it's because XXC's still out here trying to do good when many people would've either quit and hardened their hearts, or been broken irreparably. So XY think's he'll get both schadenfreude and try to find out why this dumbass saved a highly suspicious dying man and continued on his goody goody quest instead of learning his lesson. The lesson XY tried to teach him. Maybe XXC's whole deal makes XY wonder how his life would be if he'd acted nicer and more socially acceptable. Would it have saved him any pain ? Would he have had true allies then ? Did he choose a life of callous crime because he is weak - willed and 'inferior' unlike the seemingly unbreakable superiority of XXC ?
So he makes XXC kill on 'night - hunts'. Perhaps to prove that XXC got manipulated into doing harm cuz he's dumb or full of hubris and refuses to wisen up, refuses to become more cynical and wary of people. This ties back into Baixue too. Also I think the book mentions the victims are residents who mocked / cheated XXC ? If that's true, it's like XY is 'introducing' XXC to taking bloody revenge just like XY did on the Chang clan and others who crossed him / his pals. Like he's enacting teaching XXC 'look, if you keep up the good deeds, eventually you'll meet someone who ruins you so you destroy that hope for humanity and become just like me. Your way will always end in disaster, and therefore I'm justified in living like I do.'
Of course, in the end XY realises that XXC's drive to better society was his way of coping with the harsh reality of humans, especially after being ousted from BSSR's mountain. XXC didn't want to live in a sordid world. Meanwhile XY's coping mechanism was to extort the sordid world for all he wanted.
There's a tiny moment in CQL where, after the fake night hunt slaughter, XXC walks past a smirking XY and his arm brushes XY's sleeve, whose grin grows larger. It's like XY's relishing in XXC so casually touching and hanging about him totally unawares. Also he's horny for XXC's combat skills.
So yeah. Antagonist obsessed with corrupting his enemy, wrapping him around his finger, but not willing to let go. He ended up being totally down to bask in XXC's obstinate kindness despite that being the very thing he wanted to disprove and destroy.
XXC hesitates to kill XY after the reveal. What does he get from XY? Maybe it was reassuring that someone as hard - hearted and self - centred as his friend was willing to stick around in no man's land with him. It's soothing because it makes it seem like the world isn't that cruel, that perhaps the potential for good exists in people, hence helping XXC cope with his existential anxiety. He has to hold on to that hope even as his friend's identity is revealed, else there's nothing left for him since he can't bear to live in a world of evil and exploitation.
Why didn't XY move on after XXC's suicide ? If all he wanted was acceptance and shelter, he could've found so many other options. No, he was obsessed with XXC cuz he thought that if someone perfectly willing to kill him in the past over morals hesitated to kill him in the end, it must be an actual stable love. Where else, he thinks, would be find someone who loved him enough to not kill him despite them being such hostile opposites by character and circumstance ? Lots of people could love him cuz they agreed with his worldview or found it / him expedient. Who would love him even when their entire identity and misery opposed it ?

kicking around some thoughts this morning, this is extremely disorganized but here are the key ingredients in this meta smoothie:
jin guangyao +
the bad things that he does (both of his own free will and under duress for wrh and/or jgs) +
textual evidence presented to the reader indicating that jgy is aware of the awfulness of these things +
reader interpretation of what jgy's understanding of that awfulness means about his personal feelings about his own actions (i.e., he is perfectly okay with them, or he is absolutely fucked up by them, or something in between)
= two* contradictory versions of jgy in fic and/or the neverending game of mdzs fandom discourse
(*yes i know there are more than two contradictory interpretations of his character, but by and large the majority these interpretations can be filed into two categories: he's Evil or he's Not Evil.)
the more i mull it over, the more i think it's at this specific intersection (of jin guangyao as a character, the actions he takes in the story, his understanding of these actions as being terrible, and reader response to his understanding) where the disconnect happens between fans who consider themselves jgy stans, and fans who either don't like jgy or don't have much of an opinion on him either way.
i think it's clear where i stand on the issue (jgy is NOT unaffected by the terrible things he has done, even in those instances where he believed his actions to be unavoidable or necessary), but i also want to provide clear textual evidence for why i stand by this interpretation. since i don't have the time today to go through the whole book and draw out the specific passages i have in mind, i'll just pull this one quote from the guanyin temple sequence for now and come back to this post with additional quotes as reblogs later:
Only after the word came out did [Lan Xichen] remember that he’d already one-sidedly broke off with Jin GuangYao, and thus he shouldn’t call him [A-Yao]. However, Jin GuangYao seemed as if he didn’t notice it, his expression collected, “Brother, don’t be surprised that I can call him such dirty things. To this father of mine, I once had hopes as well. In the past, as long as it was his command, whether it be to betray Sect Leader Wen or protect Xue Yang or remove anyone who disagreed, no matter how foolish it was, how hated I’d be, I’d obey regardlessly. But do you know what it was that made me lose hope completely? I’ll answer your first question now. It wasn’t that I’d never be worth a single hair on Jin ZiXuan or one of the holes in Jin ZiXun, it wasn’t that he took back Mo XuanYu, it wasn’t that he tried every possible way to make me a mere figurehead either. bolded emphasis is mine because i think these textual context clues provide insight into jgy's state of mind, both in this moment where he is struggling to maintain his composure (and will later fail to maintain it), as well as in the past when he was carrying out these actions for jgs. i think we have every reason to believe that jgy is being honest when he says that he once had hope of receiving his father's affection, recognition, and respect, given what we have seen of his past actions prior to his legitimization. i also think he's being honest when he describes the actions he takes for jgs as being foolish, or certain to make people hate him, because... well, that's precisely what happens in the text, isn't it? his word choice is deliberate when he describes his own actions: they were foolish, and he knew that he would be hated for doing them, but even while doing them, he held out hope that perhaps one day, he would have done enough to earn the thing that jgs gave freely and unconditionally to his other children. one day, he would not have to do these terrible things that jgs never, ever asked of jzx, or jzn, or mxy, ever again.

Gambling man
When Nie Huaisang all but dragged him out of his bed and away from his sappy, romantic K-drama marathon, Wei Wuxian had expected to be taken to some cafe, bar, night club or something down-to-earth like that - not the highest end casino in town in a limo that Nie Huaisang definitely shouldn't have been able to afford. Not after his older brother cut off his allowance due to his abysmal grades, that is.
"A-Sang, how did you even pay for this? Did you start selling drugs or something?"
Huaisang opened his fan in offense. He had dressed in his fanciest clothes and looked every bit as elegant as he did androgynous. "I'd never step on Xue Yang's turf like that, and he's my best dealer anyway, it would be a breach of trust."
Before Wei Wuxian could say anything (since when was Huaisang buying drugs, let alone from Xue Yang of all people? There was no way he didn't know of the massive scandal that broke out at their university over him), Huaisang continued, "And anyway, I only spent half of my allowance on this, it was a bargain!"
"A-Sang, half of your allowance is like 400$."
"Exactly! So cheap! Plus, we can't just show up to the Cloud Recesses in a taxi or something, it's bad taste and we're not poor!"
Wei Wuxian sent him a pointed look. "We are, though. I mean, I am."
A shrug. "Yeah but at least you're finally no contact with that terrible woman! And you have me! I'm also poor but not as poor as you - no offense."
"None taken, it's the truth. But since we're both basically broke, why are we going to a casino?"
Huaisang waved his fan closed. "To get rich, of course! Like hell am I going to live off 800$ every month! That's not even enough for makeup, do you know how much some good foundation costs nowadays?!"
"Uhh, no, not really..."
The fan was pointed so close in his face that Wei Wuxian felt Nie Huaisang might poke his eyes out with it. "Of course not, you people with good skin just don't get it! Da-Ge didn't even want to hear it! And all because old teacher Lan has it out for me!"
"He doesn't, A-Sang, you just only showed up to his class once and slept through it... never turned in an assignment, never showed up for the exam-"
"Who wakes up at 6 am to attend his lectures?"
"Me, Lan Zhan-"
"Okay, let me rephrase that: who in their right mind wakes up at 6 am to attend his lectures?"
The limo stopped in front of the large, lit up establishment. It looked every bit as luxurious and grandiose at night as it did during the day, white marble and light blue accents, the family crest serving as the logo on its large glass doors.
"What if we lose the money we do have?"
"Ridiculous! I never lose! Especially not when I'm wearing my tightest pair of pants. Have a little faith in me, A-Ying, I've been doing this for a long time! Come on in, and try to look as if you belong here!"
Wei Wuxian ran a hand through his hair, trying to tame it. "And how do I even do that?"
Huaisang opened his fan and undid the front two buttons of his silk shirt. "I don't know, just be self-centered and entitled I guess."
"So like Jin Zixuan."
"Exactly like Jin Zixuan!"

Nie Huaisang hadn't been kidding, he really was a pro - of course, he was surprisingly skilled playing all sorts of games, from the roulette to blackjack and poker, but if he just so happened to have a losing hand, he knew how to bat his eyelashes or wiggle his assets enough to still win something in the end.
"Men are easiest to distract." Huaisang instructed as he pocketed yet another win to claim at the exit. "Women are a bit more... subtle, and we're not in a position to play the long game right now. Anyway, you try it too, your ass is fatter than mine."
"Let's get a drink first, I'm too sober for this."
But just as they're about to order, Wei Wuxian noticed Nie Huaisang paling, as if he'd just seen a ghost (or their monthly expenses).
"What is- Lan Zhan?!"
Stone-faced, academic extraordinaire, rule-enthusiast Lan Wangji was just... standing there, glaring Nie Huaisang down. And he looked so good doing it, in a white suit so perfectly tailored on his body, and a loose side ponytail styled in such an elegant, subtle manner, a white ribbon woven through the-
"A-Ying, you're staring." Huaisang whispered in his ear as he hid behind him. "But he's staring too. I told you the tight shirt was a good idea."
Snapping out of it, Wei Wuxian let out an awkward laugh. "Uh, what a surprise to meet you here, Lan Zhan, I never took you as a gambling guy."
Nie Huaisang sighed in Wei Wuxian's ear. "His family literally owns the place, how do you not know?"
With a half mouth, Wei Wuxian replied, "I don't frequent the casino world like you rich people, I have a retail job!"
"Wei Ying. What brings you here?"
"Oh just..." he felt Huaisang glare at him subtly, "...just curious, I guess? I've always been good at poker and stuff and I was bored on this Saturday night so I decided to just... drop by!"
"Mn. Have you been successful?"
"Oh, I haven't really played yet... I'm, uh, trying to get used to the... atmosphere..."
"I could accompany you if you wish."
"I-"
"HE DOES!" Nie Huaisang all but shouted, emerging from Wei Wuxian's back and pushing him ever so slightly towards Lan Wangji. "He does want your company. More than you know. But, say, Wangji-xiong, is-is your brother here tonight?"
Lan Wangji gave Huaisang a long, judgemental stare. "Yes."
"Is my brother also with him?"
"Obviously."
You could see the cold sweat form on Nie Huaisang's temples, a wide, pleading smile on his lips. "Say, why don't you go ahead and spend some quality time with A-Ying and you pretend you never saw me?"
Wei Wuxian turned slightly towards Nie Huaisang, and whispered. "Why do I feel like I'm being traded right now?"
"You are." Huaisang whispered back. "Now be a good war prize so Da-Ge doesn't behead me and I'll give you half my winnings, alright?"
Lan Wangji didn't seem to react, but he did place a very respectful hand on Wei Wuxian's lower back, pointedly refusing to look at Nie Huaisang. "Follow me."
"Where are we going?"
"The VIP."
"The VIP?!"
"Mn. I do not like playing with an audience."
"Playing cards, right?"
"..."
"Lan Zhan, that's what we'll play, right?"
"Mn."
Nie Huaisang sighed, relieved, and downed both his and Wei Wuxian's drink in one go. Then, he reapplied his Chanel lipstick and sashayed towards one of the poker tables, where he had already seen someone checking him out from afar.
He had severely miscalculated when he saw who else was among the players.
"Ah, Wen-guniang... fancy meeting you here... haha..."
Wen Qing shot him a bored look. "Drop the act, Nie Huaisang, it's embarrassing."
He clicked his fan closed and sighed. "You're really going to leave me penniless, aren't you?"
"I've already shaken Jin Zixun off half his fortune, I'll go easy on you."
"Delightful."

(By the end of the night, Nie Huaisang managed to win some 5K back after a debilitating loss to Wen Qing, but at least Da-Ge never found out he'd been gambling a few rooms away from him. As the saying goes, a win is a win.
Anyway, Wei Wuxian didn't come home that night, but Nie Huaisang had expected that. After all, it was high time he and Lan Wangji confessed their feelings and fucked about it - it was getting insufferable to see them both pine like some cliche romcom.
Nie Huaisang would be more than happy to take the credit for finally pushing them in the right direction (AKA towards each other and a private room), and if it just so happened to have saved his ass in the process - well, that was just his quick wit at work.
Serves you right, old teacher Lan, I'm not as much of an idiot as you think I am!)

BTS in Order Addendum 1
I know what you're thinking. There's more??
Well, I found a playlist that had some sparse translations of the bts in order through the end of June. I figured I'd fill in some of the unknowns. Most aren't too exciting, but there are a few notable things to point out.
I added all this in the original BTS posts, but I'm doing this post for those who don't want to crawl through the timeline they've already read through to pick out what's new.
This is April + May. I'll do June next. This playlist was not near as comprehensive as the bilibili one. But this had the advantage of translated dialogue, which really, obviously, helps contextualize some of this.
On 4.17, the first day of filming with gg, DD yelled about needing to take a shit from off camera. GG reacts to the camera. Yep. Our gremlin did that on his 2nd day of filming.
On 4.18, when gg is rehearsing, dd asks, "Why are you [wwx, I'm guessing] being so fierce to me?". The translator notes that he uses a cutesy way of saying "me".
On 4.19, on the cloud recess lectures set, GG and dd talk about how to portray LWJ across the timeskip
On 4.29, the translator notes a famous scene of DD staring at gg and his (DD's) PA noticing. DD is at a distance from the camera, so it's kinda hard to see where he's looking, so it doesn't seem obvious to me.
On 5.1, GG tells the bad joke, the pun based on LWJ's name, to DD
People seemed interested in GG's codeswitching so I tried to keep an ear out for it. I'm not gonna commit to any certainty here, but GG may slip into it on 5.3. His comment is so short, though, so it's hard to tell. He is talking to DD though.
On 5.3, we have the clip of dd talking about how cute Xue Yang with gg responding by rainbow farting about LWJ
5.3 also has the scene of gg complaining about how useless he is in the yi city action bit and DD says it's cute.
On 5.4, during the clip where DD is complimenting gg's singing, it sounds as if gg slips into the voice again
There's a clip on 5.4 I've seen some refer to as DD getting jealous at yb teasingly flirting with gg. There's no sound so it's impossible to know the context beyond them setting up a scene. DD does look angry for a few seconds and he does appear to direct that look at yb. But YB's back is to the camera so we can't see what he's doing. Also, earlier, yb and dd had been making faces at each other, so this may be more of the same.
On 5.5, dd mentions that gg's body double looks like him from the back. When gg says to choose him, dd says he's already chosen gg.
I was wrong! GG calls dd gouzaizai on 5.5 when DD refuses to return his bamboo flute. So there's 2 times documented of GG calling dd that.
At one point on 5.5, gg says to camera that he envies dd for being able to stay up late. Then he acts like he got caught saying something he shouldn't have. Not sure why.
On 5.7, when dd playfully betrays gg with the clans, gg asks if they can replace dd. The director says DD has charmed everybody already, while gg just starts repeating that dd is so handsome.
I was also wrong about there being no hostility towards WQ or her actress on set! On 5.9, during the shooting of GG in the Wen dungeon, he has an exchange with the director about a line having been removed that was part of the WWX/WQ storyline. GG asks and the director confirms that they've canceled that, and GG looks jazzed about it.
Later, on 5.11, when YB and GG are goofing around with the bow and arrow, they pretend point at the top of the waterfall and gg says, "And then WQ is over there. And then she's going to fall down from over there." Later saying, "And that's how WQ ends her shooting".
I'm guessing that the famous "delete it" scene may have been on 5.4. That scene talks about gg filming a WWX/WQ scene with the bunnies the next day, and there are 2 different bunny scenes filmed on 5.5 that we know of.
JL is hella flirty with DD! I didn't realize but the scene where it looks like dd's doing a "watching you" gesture (on 5.9) is actually JL mouthing "I love you" to dd. DD then jokingly stares and says "silencing spell" over and over.
On the same day, during the big clan gathering in the burial mounds post-timeskip, gg is studying his script, and dd puts his sword to JL's throat. JL then praises him in a weirdly flirty way. DD says "You said your inner thoughts out loud" and JL says "So be it."
Also in random dd moments, on 5/22, DD tells JC that his purple robes are the most coquettish (骚) of all robes.
DD calls gg something that gets translated to "coquettish" or "flirty" a lot. Not sure if it's the same word he uses here.
All that said, after this, I'm honestly kinda attached to my theory that SOME significant development happened in GG and DD's relationship around 5/3 and 5/4. They are noticeably closer physically after that point.

the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them: I feel like a solid percentage of my fandom experience is pretty much me picking a if not unpopular then probably controversial character and then proceeding to talk loudly and ad nauseam about why I think people should like them.
but if I gotta pick just one, and thinking about characters who I feel like are actively unpopular (as opposed to controversial, which is a different category; like, I'd put Xue Yang in the latter but not really the former, since he's got a middling strength group of core fans)...
since I mentioned Black Jewels Trilogy I'll throw one out for Jaenelle Angelline who I recall people really not liking back in the day, at least (I'm not actively in the fandom now so maybe this isn't the case anymore), or at least didn't find interesting as a character. and I get that because on the one hand sure, she's a classic "all the good guys love her, all the bad guys hate her, all-powerful chosen figure" character, but I've always been deeply fond of her because like. she's weird. she starts out weird and continues to be weird, she's really fucked up psychologically actually, she's kind of socially awkward and this combination of shy and insecure and exuberant confidence. she's sweet and compassionate and also vindictive and capable of horrific cruelty.
I think I have kind of a thing for characters who are extremely fucking powerful and also a complete mess as human beings and that's how I always felt about Jaenelle? yeah, she can decimate a planet and makes friends with unicorns but also doesn't really know how to be a normal human person. I don't know. I don't actually expect other people to be with me on this but I am.
but also, a while back I went looking for Wang Lingjiao fic because I was like "there's interesting material there about this woman from a nobody family who ends up in a relationship with the son of a major sect leader, and, like, what was she thinking? did she try to catch Wen Chao or did he notice her and she either (a) made the best of a bad situation by turning it to her advantage or (b) actively decided that she was going to improve her own life via this guy? like, yeah, she's petty and mean and vindictive and I want to know what's going on in her head. in a story that has a lot of people who come from low station and suffer for it, and sometimes even more for trying to get out of it, I'm prodding at her version of that and going "there's something here, give it to me."
sometimes think about that half idea I had where Wang Lingjiao notices Wen Chao coming onto her, doesn't like the idea, and basically tries to escape by glomming onto Wen Qing instead. Wen Qing/Wang Lingjiao rights, is what I'm saying.
worst blorboficiation: my first reaction to this was "oh no, are we going to make "blorbofication" the new "woobification", I was glad when we left that word behind and I don't want to see it replaced, I really don't."
but also. in my heart I immediately knew my answer and it's perfect good boy Wei Wuxian. singlehandedly turned me around on my feelings for a character and I don't really know how to get the good ones back at this point and I would really like the good ones back. I got into this fucking fandom because of him as basically an antagonist-as-protagonist model (i.e. a character who could be an antagonist in most stories but narrative positioning complicates things) - in CQL, even, so this isn't just adaptation decay or whatever - and now...augh.
idk man it makes me sad to think about too much. going back to thinking about Wen Qing/Wang Lingjiao rights instead.
you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc): so many and I feel like a lot of them have come up in answers to other questions...going to throw this one out though to the people who insist that Xue Yang never had any squishy feelings for Xiao Xingchen and all his motives were bad and evil forever, not just because hey that's my baby but also because it is, as I've said before, both an incredibly shallow read of the story as a whole that strips it of part of what makes it so painful and good and also makes that whole dynamic so much less interesting.
it just makes me feel kind of crazy, also, the way I look at that arc and see the reiteration of themes across MDZS and across MXTX's other works and feel like I'm just going "LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT IT, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT BUT AT LEAST SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT" and meanwhile there's another post in the tag throwing "no empathy" around as a shortcut to indicate "bad and evil."
anyway. I'm tired. every month or so I have to block another one.

for the... somthing similar to the "fuck, marry, kill" game, but with different longer anwsers I don't remember now, from one of the posts you rb. Anyways, what about: yu ziyuan, wen chao, xue yang
get them randomly assigned as your lab partner for a whole semester, get trapped with them on a broken elevator for ten hours, and they’re your employee trainer for your new job at McDonalds
so before i went and checked, i had misremembered this game mashed up with a different one, and thought the first option was share a cake, which made this easy. because obviously i would let xue yang have the cake and flee while he was distracted by his sweet tooth, and then the other two were obvious because madam yu isn't going to randomly assault me.
this one's harder, because there's no 'run away immediately' option.
xue yang still gets to be the controlling entity, because he does random murders and not dying is priority one.
so he's going to train me at mcdonalds, because if he's bothering to hold down a job at mcdonalds long enough to be in a position to train me he's clearly got some goals here that may conflict with on-site murder. having authority over me also gives him a non-murder route to torment and get entertainment out of me that way, and also this one doesn't say i can't quit my job if he freaks me out enough.
i have decent odds of not being there or not being noticed when he beheads the franchise owner and sets the mcdonalds on fire or whatever.
then i'm still going to be in the elevator with madam yu, because she won't make it fun but i should get out without any kind of physical damage. she may even be reasonably polite; there's nothing about me that's inherently offensive to her. unless madam yu elevator-riding edition is racist against white people or something. which can't be wholly ruled out, given her everything.
(....i'm assuming she knows what an elevator is and we can communicate, so i don't get mistaken for some sort of disfigured demon creature responsible for imprisoning her in this steel chamber or something, because after all the other two scenarios presuppose the characters are reasonably well-integrated into the modern world in places i have reason to be. i still have the best odds with her even if this is a sudden isekai thing, though, since she is both sane and intelligent.)
leaving me stuck with wen chao for a lab partner. there are a lot of ways for this to go badly, especially if i don't go into this already knowing what he's like and that he is absolutely likely to have his father get me expelled if i don't put up with sexual harassment.
but it's a reasonably structured setting, where we're officially on the same level as students, so hopefully he'll just drag down my grade, make lab section unpleasant, and expect me to do all the work.

"Is it weird to call my teacher dad?"
.... and the unforeseen consequences of informally adopting every child you come across.
Wei Wuxian, facing the twice-mothly assembled mob of cultivators at his doorstop: "Can I help you?" -distant explosion and screaming- Enter Mo Xuanyu with much shorter hair than he had this morning: "Daaaaad, I mean Senior Wei look at what Xue Yang did to my hair!!!!" Xue Yang -still clutching the smoldering remains of whatever talisman they were fooling with-: "You promised you wouldn't tell!"

Meanwhile Lan Wangji is in the background, meditating as if nothing's happening. A-Yuan is quietly sitting next to him, chewing on his forehead ribbon. A Lan elder complains that only parents, spouses and children are allowed to touch the ribbon, and Lan Wangji calmly says A-Yuan is his son.
Now imagine, after that bombshell has died down a little, someone from the Jin side making a comment about how much Mo Xuanyu looks like the Jin main family and Mo Xuanyu stops trying to put Xue Yang in a headlock long enough to yell back that he wouldn't know seeing as his father literally abandoned him and his mother to die.
Xue Yang, feral cat that he is, starts describing in vivid detail what he will do to said father should he ever come forward…
The gossip spreads, because of course it does, and funnily enough Jin Guangshanis found dead at the bottom of Koi Tower's steps a few days later. Xue Yang is the most obvious suspect but it's rather suspicious how well Jin Guangyao and Madam Jin are getting along these days…
The fact that Xue Yang canonicaly shows affection by stabbing those who are mean to his loved ones is an untapped source of endless comedy in my opinion.
Imagine Xue Yang trying to justify himself to a disapproving Lan Wangji and he's all "I don't know, I just stab anyone who's pissed off me or someone I like, or if they try to take someone I like away from me."
Cue Lan Wangji remembering his bitey child days, when several of his teachers ended up with teeth marks on their arms, and that very memorable occasion when he tried to bite Nie Mingjue after deciding he was spending too much time with Lan Xichen.
Or better yet, teenage!Xue Yang at his most obstinate mood, glaring up at Lan Wangji and only saying: "He was rude to Senior Wei!" about his latest stab victim. Lan Wangji cannot find it in himself to disapprove of this thought process. Which unfortunately means that Wei Wuxian has (to his eternal despair, and he would like to point out that he absolutely did NOT sign up for this) to be the one enforcing discipline.
The thought also occurs that between Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, Wen Ning, Wen Qing and the murder gremlins, if anyone looks at A-Yuan wrong will never be found dead or alive or in one piece…. A-Yuan grows up blissfully unaware that he has an entire army of parents/aunts/uncles/siblings behind him. He just thinks nothing bad ever happens. And let's not even forget the ghost aunties. Or that (tragically underused) ghost lady that Wei Wuxian summons once and literally never again (unfair!)? She's always tailing behind A-Yuan and he's so used to the presence of ghosts that he doesn't even notice her looming over his shoulder. Juniors from other sects are less….comforted by her presence. She's his self-appointed chaperone
It doesn't take long for her (and the other ghost aunties) to decide they actually have four baby nephews to look after - and no amount of bitching from Jin Ling is going to get rid of them. It's either Ghost-jie or Mo Xuanyu to supervise them. And where Mo Xuanyu is, Xue Yang is not far behind so…
No nighthunting would get done with these two around. They are too fond of shenanigans.

i guess i'll take this as an opportunity to address this in general! i don't mind if people ship something i don't like/a notp as long as they're not making me engage with it, i don't track people down at gunpoint like HEY SHIPPER SAW YOU TOUCHED MY ART! no! all i ask is people don't /tag/ my art as whatever if i don't want it tagged as such (and don't ramble on about ship ideas in there either lol please), but i'm making an effort to make that obvious in the body of the post itself :) lots of my friends/followers ship things i don't and we coexist just fine!
but as for your ship, i've made mention to it a few times i think that it doesn't really bother me that much! in fact, the more i draw them together, the more chill i am with people taking away whichever kind of interactions they want from my art of them! they're my blorbos too and i love drawing them together, and although sometimes i am explicit about not wanting them tagged as a ship (so like, if they're drawn as family, xy is a child and sl is not for instance, lol), and sometimes i wish not everything were seen as shippy, it's very unreasonable i think for me to expect people not to see it that way. does that make sense? that's why someone requested i tag it a certain way so they wouldn't have to see it anyway OTL

Requested by @lelewright1234: Hello my friend! Well, I’m a huge fan of the Untamed series! I wanted to see if you could do a long headcanon of "The Untamed" series characters with an African-American/black! Reader (Can you add Poly!Wangxian and the boys of MDZS) who as their girlfriend/wife with skin as dark as the night, long thick braided hair, a skinny long yet short curvy body, and brownish-black eyes. (Remember Black Lives Matter and Happy Black History Month!!!) Oh also can you add parts where they have children as well? (You can decide how many each of them have!)

A/N I made this more of a bullet list story then a written image, but I'd love to make a one-shot based on this story board if anyone wants it, also divided it into parts, this one and for the next I'll do Lan Xichen, Guangyao, Xue Yang, Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen

You meet them in Cloud Recesses as adult (20-ish)
you come from a clan that usually hides away from others, due to a fight between your clan leader and the others (like Lanling Jin clan leader)
so when you first get introduced, most people are very curious
you look different, so that also gains you a lot of attention
Wuxian is the first to greet you
he's very interested in you
he also thinks you're very pretty
asks a lot of weird questions at first
loves your hair
but like alot
constantly asks if he can braid your hair sometimes, saying he learned how from Yanli
you then have to explain that it isn't like normal braiding per se
que him wanting to learn how to properly braid your hair, which you gladly want teach him
so when he comes by and your hair is loose
and he's confused
because it's suddenly fluffier
he also dragged Wangji along, you still don't know why
so Wangji is sitting in front of you as you drink tea
while you try to explain to Wuxian how to braid
he definitely does his best, but the first braid are kindly said terrible
but he gets it after awhile
the braids still aren't that good, but the thought counted
you re-did your hair afterwards though
but Wuxian got sulky when you removed his braids
so you kept one
Wuxian also noticed the little trinkets and beads for your hair
you quickly explained that it was a sort of tradition and that they had different kinds of meanings
this gains you Wangji's attention as you start explaining while putting the beads back into your hair
they are both very interested in your culture
they often ask you questions throughout your stay at Cloud Recesses, trying to learn more and more
Wangji has absolutely talked back when someone, even when indirectly, insults or berates your culture and looks
Wangji is kind about it
Wuxian is not
he almost attacked someone when they made a mean comment about your hair
and Wangji lets him
Wuxian is the one to ask if you wanted to join there relationship
and he was quite surprised when you accepted
you then start to wear two beads on Wuxian's braid
Wuxian loves this the most, Wangji is just grateful about it
you spend equal time with both of them
with Wangji you're usually in the library, both reading
with Wuxian you're usually in the city, trying all kinds of food
or you're pranking Jiang Cheng
usually the latter
some people laugh at your relationship
but not in a bad way
they just joke that Wuxian needs two people to calm him down
and it's true
he only calms down when both of you tell him to hush
but he demands cuddles after
which he gets
otherwise he gets sulky
and you don't like being ignored
you somehow are able to make Wangji less "stuck up"
he feels and looks much more relaxed when he's alone with you and Wuxian
loves when you comb his hair or hug him
surprisingly, he's much more affectionate then you'd think
not as much as Wuxian
but still a lot
not in public though
only Wuxian likes being affectionate in public
people often think Wuxian likes you more since he hugs you more
but it's only because Wangji doesn't like it
he doesn't get upset easily, but such rumors do affect him
and you are a lot more affectionate in private
you do really love them equally and showing this is very important for you
your marriage is very small, only family (this includes the Wens)
you have two ceremonies, one for their culture and one for yours
you have three kids after marriage
they're a mix between all three of you
your firstborn is a mix between you and Wangji in appearance
she has a light brown skin-tone and her hair is like yours, but her face/height is more like Wangji
but her character is like Wuxian's, loves pranking you
your second born looks a lot more like Wuxian
a fair skin, but your hair
he is more like Wangji, focused on studying and such
the third (and last) is a copy of you, but with hair like Wangji and Wuxian
is a mix of pranking and studying, so a bit like you
parenting is a bit difficult
your youngest is usually upset that her hair is different from her siblings
she doesn't like it when you don't braid her hair like her siblings, so you explain that it might not be so good for her hair
Wuxian braids it in a Chinese style instead to cheer her up
Wuxian plays with the kids the most
Wangji focusses more on their teaching
but overall you're a very happy family

You meet him at Lotus Pier
your family was invited by his father
you were 14 back then and he was 15
he doesn't care what you look like, but is a bit fascinated
he does like you
because Wuxian leaves him alone now
until he's forced to join you and Wuxian by his father
grows more fascinated by you over time
is that person who changes his actions towards you, but pretends not to
for example when you said that it would be disrespectful in your culture to just ignore someone's greeting, he made sure to always greet you back when you said hello (even when it was just a nod)
cares a lot more than he let's on
you don't see him again until he's sect leader
you greeted him happily and he greeted back instinctively
starstruck when he sees how much you had changed physically
thinks you're even more beautiful than before
you're the first person to ask how he is feeling
not as sect leader, but just as Jiang Cheng
you talked to him like you would to an old friend, not caring about his status
something not a lot of people had done or would do (even Wuxian was more respectful than before)
he definitely changes his character around that period
much more open and more smiles
you confess to him (which he still gets teased for years later)
your courting process isn't that long
he learns a lot
like how to braid your hair
makes the time styling your hair much shorter
and he's actually really good
often listens to you as you explain stuff to him
gets really happy when he learns that you only let people close to you touch your hair
doesn't show it though
you marry after 4 months later
do to his position, your wedding is filled with at least two thousand people (disciplines and leaders from all clans came)
and it's a Chinese wedding
Jiang Cheng is actually a bit upset by this
so decides to redo it with only you two to show that he cares
you have 2 kids after marriage
twins
they look more like you, but they have his eyes, which always make it funny
when they're annoyed, they look exactly like him
kids are a bit scared of them
but they're the sweetest once you know them
their hair is like his, but with light curls in them
but same thickness of your hair
so he styles their hair as well
sometimes in a more Chinese like style
you and Jiang Cheng decide to raise them in two cultures
you teach them yours and he teaches his
kids love it
he sometimes follows your lessons to learn more himself
Jin Ling is your third unofficial child (along with the rest of the juniors as well)
you took him in after the whole fiasco of Guanyin Temple (also helping him in becoming leader of the Lanling Jin Clan)
you also have three other babies
dogs
Jiang Cheng named them (in the most cliché way, of course)
Angel (2), Queen (3) and Prince (1)
he loves them so much
plays with them constantly
and looks soo cute when he does, all smiles
Jiang Chang wants a third child
because he wants every kid to have a dog that protects them
so..... you might have a third child
unless he adopts another dog, then you might have more
it's 50/50 chance to what happens first
but happy family nonetheless
Nie Huaisang:

You meet him at the very young age of 12
Nie Mingjue had just become clan leader
and he had started to force Huaisang into sword training
so Huaisang ran off
he met you in the forest
your family was traveling and you had stumbled off during break
and you found each other by the river
each on one side
and then he saw you and fell in love
he thought you were some sort of angel
dressed in a beautiful white dress and colorful beads woven into your hair
you only noticed him when you heard a loud splash
you couldn't help but laugh as you saw him sitting in the river
you spent quite some time with him after
you also gave him some dry clothes because it was freezing outside
even more reasons for him to think you're an angel
but then you leave again
you only give each other your names
but years later, you're both 17 at this point, you meet again
he doesn't recognize him at first
until he spotted the pattern on your dress
exactly like the painting he had given you
but you changed a lot compared to then
so did he of course
but you changed everything
your hair was much longer, long braid(s) that reached past your waist and your body had grown much more mature
he approaches you first
introduces himself and is so happy when you remember him
you talk a lot
he doesn't hold back on complementing you
on literally everything
it was supposed to be a party for clan leaders and such
but you two had spent most time talking to each other instead of talking to others
well into the night
the stars had appeared to light your way
you only left when the moon was at its highest
but you met again, two days later
just to talk again
Huaisang felt so secure around you
freely talking about his love for art
showing his collection of self-painted fans
you spend some time together while painting
you often wear vibrant clothes
he loves them, because they look like art as well
but he even loves the simple beads that you sometimes wore in your hair
he even jokes that you yourself are a work of art
calls you his muse after awhile
you always return the name, which often causes him to flush red
he asks you to marry him 2 months into your friendship
he refuses to do a wedding in front of the whole clan (or other clans)
your family is there and all his friends (including Xichen and Guangyao)
includes both your cultures as much as he can
wants to learn how to braid
doesn't do well
you haven't let him braid your hair afterwards
it took you 3 hours to take his first braid out
he's sulky, but understands
continues to learn on his own
gains much respect after he finished his 3th braid (because doing your own braids hurts after awhile)
stops trying to braid after that
about a year into your marriage, your first child is born
a girl
she's dark skinned, but has her father's looks
as she grows older, she grows to look more like him
when she's 5, her little brother is born
he looks more like him
except for his hair, a full head of curly thick hair
Huaisang is very busy as clan leader
but he makes it work
even if it means brushing aside his duties
has at least one day every month just for you guys
you'd walk around in the city
if your children would even look at something for more than a second, Huaisang would try to buy it
you have to stop him
people always laugh when they see their leader being dragged by the ear by his wife
with two happy children running behind you two
he teaches his kids all about history of his clan as well as other clans
as they get older, they learn his mischief
unfortunately, they're also great liars like him
he knows, you don't
which causes them to always come your way
only for him to hear and step in
he loves them too much sometimes though
but he's always scared
scared that war would return
or someone was scheming behind his back, planning his death
yet when he sleeps in your arms every evening, kids huddled around you as well
he feels comforted
like he can protect you at all times
that's all the will he needs to live and protect you
Wen Ning:

you meet him at cloud recesses at age 15
you were dragged by Wuxian towards Wen Ning's practice spot
Wen Ning was trying to aim when he spotted the two of you
the poor boy almost had a heart attack when he saw a new person with Wuxian
this causes his arrow to shift, flying your way before hitting the tree next to your head
you, however, didn't even flinch
which surprises both boys
you're like Wuxian, very talkative
you talk to Wen Ning afterwards as well
he likes listening to you
opens up to you and you fall in love
he gets extremely excited and if he had a tail, it would be wagging from side to side
you become great friends
and his sister approves, which makes Wen Ning even happier
he invites you over for tea or food
and you just chat with each other about you day or about your past
loves to hear what your home was like
you miss him a lot when he leaves to return to the Wen clan
and then all of a sudden
he's gone
just gone, no explanation
and you don't see him again until he's already the ghost general
he doesn't remember you fully until some memory pushes forward
you baby him immediatley
and scold Wuxian, because Wen Ning looks too pale to your liking and you hate the chains he drags along with him
he takes them off eventually (except for the one around his torso)
you're both very busy
he with Wuxian and you with your clan
but once everything is over
you meet again
you even join him while he goes on the adventure with Sizhui (spin-off movie: The living dead)
you get injured and he becomes so worried
until Sizhui tells him that you're fine
but even then
worried!!!
because what if you die from infection????
you joke at one point that you'd become like him
the joke flies over his head at that point
but he starts to blur out strange things
one of which is that he can't loose you
because he loves you
you just watch until he realizes what he said
and his face just starts turning pink
something you didn't think was possible
but you return the confession by kissing his forehead softly
(you forgot about Sizhui, who was in the same room)
(awkward bean is just smiling)
after the confession, it's still a bit awkward
Neither of you really know what to do in the relationship
but you figure it out after awhile
not that either of you minded hugging each other awkwardly
you marry pretty late, a year after you started dating
it's not really a wedding
more of a gathering
you just gave vows in front of friends/family
what you didn't know is that Wen Ning asked your family first
when you do find out, you go to Wen Qing's grave (not really a grave but rather a memorial) and ask for permission as well
After the wedding, he suddenly asks to braid your hair
and he's really good
learned from his sister
he likes brushing and braiding your hair a lot
it helps him relax his mind
and it takes your arm pains away, so you like it as well
two years into your marriage, you decide you want kids
but you don't have biological kids with Wen Ning
but you did adopt a few kids
mostly kids who were orphaned because of the "war" or other stuff
you have 3
but Wen Ning comes home with a fourth
you just accept it
he's a great father
always playing with the kids happily
and spoiling them
he can't say no...
which leads to hilarious situations
like finding his hair in various braids =knots
it takes you hours to take all of them out once the kids are asleep
comes to the point that you just teach them how to braid
now they braid his and your hair
even with the large braid you already had, you could see several smaller braids that they made (they were very visible)
and then the larger one from Wen Ning
with a red thread woven through per your request
you make sure that its always visible, proud to have it
he cares a lot about his family and he'll protect you at all cost
and you'd do the same
Jin Zixuan:

he's not particularly nice to you
he's made fun of your different appearance
but you can see him looking as his group walks off snickering
the lingering gaze
and his eyes clearly show doubt
so you don't take it fully to heart
but it still hurts
because even if he doesn't mean it, others agree and laugh
he notices and the comments lessen from his side
but then the others find out
Wuxian is the one to take action (of course)
you had never heard so many creative curse words
and all were slung Zixuan's way
afterwards you approach Zixuan
tell him to ignore Wuxian's antics
but to your surprise, he bows a full 90 degrees
and apologizes
when you don't answer, he looks up to see your panicked expression
and he gets on his knees instead (?!)
you are quick to pull him up onto his feet
he's a future clan leader, no way he had to be seen on his knees in front of you
you tell him he doesn't have to apologize anymore, the first was enough
his clan members don't stop though
if anything it got worse
but they do it behind his back
only finds out when Wuxian yells at him again
never had he been so angry
he doesn't talk to his clan members about it yet
feels like the glare was enough
then he apologizes to you again
to which you pull him up again and smile
telling him that he has nothing to worry about
but he knows it's a lie
because Wuxian had screamed at him earlier
and didn't forget to mention that you cried because if the comments
but he doesn't say anything
until he sees you alone
and you were sadly looking at the stream in front of you while chucking stones in ever so often
he approaches you slowly, but you hear anyway
he doesn't know why you smile so brightly when you see him
it confuses him a bit, but he didn't think too much as he joins you
neither of you say anything
it's just silent
you don't talk about that moment the next day
but surprisingly, you meet every night
to just sit with each other in silence
until the 5th day
he finally speaks up
tells you to not listen to his clan members
because they're wrong
when you ask what he means
he just tells you that you're beautiful and unique (in a good way)
the rest of the night is silent again, but you sit closer to each other
and it isn't awkward anymore
you talk a bit more at night
you confide in him now
telling him what others say
and he'll be quick to debunk it
your marriage is announced later that week
in public by some Lanling Jin member
neither you nor Zixuan knew about it
but neither of you mind it that much
his "friends" have a lot to say about it though
and there not positive things (again)
it's in public as well, in the middle of the courtyard where everyone could hear
they probably thought that you would be embarrassed once Zixuan agrees with them
spoiler!
he doesn't
instead he argues back
and defends you whole heartily
which surprises everyone but you
your marriage only takes place when you're of age
it is a giant wedding, thousands of people attend the wedding
once dressed fully, you found yourself beautiful
and Zixuan definitely agreed
your hair was still down in the large braid with ornamental pieces in it
you also wore a heavy head piece (which looks a bit like a crown)
the red dress was also heavy, but it was beautiful nonetheless
you felt like a princess
but you couldn't ignore the whispers around you
your first night together is Zixuan trying to cheer you up
you actually cried at one point
but Zixuan is quick to lessen the thought
telling you every little thing he loves about you
which is everything
he spends the whole night telling you this
(in more than one way)
you only get your first child at age 23, 5 years into your marriage
a boy
looks like him, but has your hair
acts as a mix between you and Zixuan
is kind and patient, but a bit arrogant like Zixuan
not in a bad way though
just know his worth and is not afraid to use it to his advantage
a girl is born 2 years later
she looks more like you, almost exactly the same
but she acts like her father
quite a short temper
takes no sh*t
surprisingly, the two kids get along very well
especially if it comes to getting in trouble
(definitely not from your side)
someone talks bad about the family?
two little demons are watching
but they're very loved, even with some of the troubles they create
Zixuan learns to braid from you just so he can do his sons hair sometimes
even when your son prefers to wear it in a giant bun
so he braids your daughters hair instead
son eventually got jealous of it
so Zixuan makes a few braids to weave into the bun

Do you also think that Su She's feelings for A-Yao were also more romantic than platonic? I felt like reading it between the lines. With XiYao I was not that obviously for me till I met you.
The magic incense burner in the shape of an elephant was previously in A-Yao's secret room. I found it so striking that WWX, as a paper man, noticed this apparently unimportant object while fleeing the room, that I marked the page and kept it in mind.
With that in mind, do you think Xichen used this item and in his confusion left it in the Lan sect library so Wangxian find it?
After realizing through you that XiYao are canon, which makes me happy beyond words, because A-Yao deserves the world and Xichen is the best boy, I have the theory that A-Yao used this incense burner to meet with Xichen in his dreams earlier.
Do you also think, that A-Yao was loyal to QS, even if they never lived as a married couple and that Xichen doesn't wanted to be the reason to tempt A-Yao to adultery, but that the meeting of A-Yao and Xichen in dreams thanks to the incense burner was for both something they could deal with?
Meanwhile, I understand that one can't believe everything the author says because she tends to joke. In the MDZS Wiki it is said that she has confirmed that JGY and NMJ fought in the coffin for 100 years. That's what makes me saddest. I prefer your theory that Xichen saves A-Yao's soul. Maybe JGY and NMJ really fought each other for 100 years, because there was no other solution, but I depend on the hope, that after that their souls were saved and didn't disappear.
Do you also think that Xue Yang and Mo Xuanyu were friends, even though it wasn't mentioned, not even once? I don't find WWX in Yi city too conspicuous. Su She was there too and doesn't seem to have reported JGY that WWX was reviewed. So Xue Yang most have known MXY + how should he know that his spiritual power was low, to make profit out of it when he attacked WWX? XY and MXY were the same age, both close to JGY and both demonic cultivators. Maybe I overanalyse, but when XY talked with WWX he doesn't seemed to me like a big fan who meets his idol. Of course because he was still mourning XXC and wanted him desperately back, but I guess maybe too because he get to know that a friend of his youth was dead.
I'm convinced that Song Lan will safe XXC's and A-Qing's souls. Maybe it's absurd, but I like the dream that they will get to understand that XY wasn't a monster and make up with him. I have that idea from a great fanart artist. Do you think that's pure wish thinking?

I'd honestly prefer if each subject was asked in its own individual post, but as it is, I will try to be methodical about this and answer each, one at a time.
Of course, this is all prefaced with the warning that this is my current perceptive and is subject to change with a deeper understanding of the character, time, growth, degeneration etc
I think, if there was a romantic connection between Su She and Jin Guangyao, I'm afraid it would only be one directional.
When Wei Wuxian mentions Su She would have to be left behind, Su She's response is for Jin Guangyao to go ahead without him. Jin Guangyao then says thank you and takes the offer. That is not the behavior of someone in love with their subordinate, but the acceptance of a person towards the sacrifice of their guard.
The following is what I think.
Su She kind of treats Jin Guangyao like Wen Zhuliu treats Wen Ruohan, but if Wen Ruohan was softer. Jin Guangyao highly values Su She in the way you would value your second in command. Su She was likely privy to thoughts Lan Xichen didn't know existed. In a way, he knew more about Jin Guangyao. But at the same time, if Lan Xichen had been privy to the same information, his understanding would been deeper because Lan Xichen used to understand Jin Guangyao's substance while Su She may understand Jin Guangyao's actions.
This is, of course, all my opinion which may change over time. I look forward to what your opinion will be once your understanding of the characters has a chance to age.

Now reading this post about Xue Yang by @spockandawe dragged me back to this piece of dialogue
"...Even if you had cut off an entire arm of his, things wouldn’t have been like this. Why did you have to kill his entire clan? Don’t tell me that a single finger of yours was equal to more than fifty human lives!”
Xue Yang actually pondered upon the matter, as if he found Xiao XingChen’s questions strange, “Of course. My finger was my own, while those lives were other peoples’. They wouldn’t be equal no matter how many lives I killed. It was only around fifty. How could it have possibly been equal to one of my fingers?”
This answer of Xue Yang had been confusing me for quite a while. Saying such words can hardly awaken sympathy. Buuut it really does seem to be deeper than I first comprehended it.
Like @spockandawe previously stated, a finger of a moneyless, parentless child and a finger (or even an arm!) of a wealthy clan leader has a world of difference, actually. Not at all equal of value. But why go as far as to say "They wouldn’t be equal no matter how many lives I killed. It was only around fifty. How could it have possibly been equal to one of my fingers?”
Well for one it's the community. On one side you have a poor child, left with no one and nothing, only surviving from one day to the next. Imagine as little happening as a dog barking at this little boy, thus scaring him. As any other child, he'd want somebody to notice him, hug him and wipe his tears off then maybe say 'it's okay'. But because he does not have this, all he can do is wish, which naturally makes him all the more miserable. The only one who would pity him is himself.
On the other side you've got a community, a sect, a family of fifty people. For them, basic comforts like this are not even a question. In fact, the bigger the trouble, the more comfort they will receive. In fact, even if they die, it will never ever be as lonely for them, as it would be for this kid who got scared to tears by a dog. Simply because those fifty are together, noticing each other or at least searching for each other. There's at least empathy.
And in Xue Yang's words it could be more than fifty, and that still would not be the same. Seeing from this perspective, it is true, because the more people who die, the more people will care. The bigger the tragedy which befalls a community, the stronger the empathy they will receive from the society.
In simpler words, he would never stop with the murders, because whomever he killed, they always had somebody somewhere who gave a damn. So it just wouldn't ever soothe his burning sense of revenge.
As to Xue Yang's raw way of expressing himself, it's nothing surprising actually. He was trying to talk about something important, trying to make Xiao Xingchen understand. But he's so emotionally charged at the moment, so frustrated at being misunderstood, that he fails to clearly communicate his feelings. Or rather, he communicates them clearly enough (they wouldn't be equal no matter how many lives I killed), he just has a whole run-up in his mind which leads to this conclusion which he'd been dwelling on for years, which Xiao Xingchen simply couldn't understand even if he wanted to. And he was not entirely focused on Xue Yang's villain origin story. After all, he'd just found out he's been living with his arch-enemy for 3 years and his mind is in scrambles, all his blood in his head from the shock and the anger and the alarm of not knowing what actually happened here during those 3 years. Yeah, I don't believe he was trying to jab on Xue Yang with downplaying his trauma either. (Even if he was going to kill Xue Yang afterwards anyway).

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
Hi, no I don't mind. This is a great question! But I actually am the worst person to ask this to because I don't have favourites, I feel like I get into certain mindsets/obsessions about shows and for a moment those characters mean a lot to me but at another, I don't actually remember or like their actions as much. So it's hard for me to say a top 10; I've consumed so much media that sometimes I can't even remember moments where I loved a character but once they are mentioned I know I do love and adore them. So I won't be able to give you a straight honest answer because I can only think about the current mindset I'm in and that's mostly boy love shows, and that's what's just surrounding all of my most liked characters right now.
I also tend to like situations that occur to characters not them, themselves, and normally that revolves around their psyche, depth and romance (since I mostly love romances the most) so with characters I normally have them as my favorite when they're with the people they love/their coupling. So this isn't going to just be top 10 characters but also couples haha. Hope that's okay...
So without further or do no ranks just listed
WeiWuxian/LangWangji ( Mo Dao Zu Shi, short summary unhinged, hilarious, painful, and broken, and yet strong in the face of it, his naivity and lack of care for society opinions (WWX) makes me adore him so much, literally one of the best pairing written and each also one of the best dimensional characters given on media not just BL, but media)
Maya Hart (Girl meets world, she is incredible, there's so much selflessness in that girl, so much love, and talent and she was going to break everything and get her ending. I adore her with everyone and her journey and her love story made me lose my mind when analyzing because it was that great and deep. Pity we never got to see her at the end see the truth of it)
Sana (Skam, this girl is me, and I am her? No but where's the lie, Sana was one of my favorite POC women who I felt seen by, I felt seen by her dissociation, I felt seen by her loyalty, her mask of strength, her anger at unfairness, I felt seen by her brokenness as well and her masks, and her love of her faith. Seeing her find herself and fall in love and accept herself made her everything and more to me. That's why you'll notice that although I love all of skam it is mostly her seasons I always end up writing about, because it's about her themes, and her and I adore her)
Xue Yang (Mo Dao Zu Shi, ooof he's the most viewed as evil and tragic on this list. But I love him. I don't shy away from my obsession with Xue Yang as a character, his whole arc, his whole story, his whole downfall, I felt so much pain and love for this character, I cried for him too and I also loved the depth and dimensionality of him, he's also the only one on my list who didn't get their happy ending and love reciprocated. It breaks my heart he was just always going to be trouble)
Naruto/Sasuke (again can't choose between the two, I also want to state that Itachi is actually probably my favorite character in Naruto more than these two but I couldn't choose. I love all of them I love Naruto when he's with Sasuke and I love Sasuke when he's with Naruto, I love how they affect each other and I think it's when they're thinking or reacting to each other they're at their most exposed, real and vulnerable not just the archetypes that they have in the show. Itachi is just chef's kiss isn't he, he's everything and more, he makes me cry so I'm not going to explain everything but he's just so good, his heart, his love of Sasuke, his tragedy oof)
Vegas/Pete (KinnPorsche, this is where I'm at and if you want to know how bad I am with them, go on my podcast twitter, page or my other blog (which is where I write about them. I should have been writing about them on here and I feel sad about that but I have podcasts, twitter spaces dedicated to them, I have writing and essays dedicated to how much I love Vegas mostly out of the two as a written character I've spoken about them everyday for longer than 8 hours it is insane how much atm I love these two and their themes, arcs and story both in book and show)
Kotoko (Itazura Na Kiss, another anime favorite girly. She's seen as dumb, a nuisance and annoying for her deep unrequited to requited love for her man, and yet she broke that system and got her story exactly the way she want it. She's bad ass, despite the fact she whines, and seems like the opposite of feminist principles she is to me one. She transformed her life, her story the way she wanted it, she worked herbutt off every time to achieve her goals and she was kind and that was her strength. She was self focused, and she delivered. And seeing her process and grow and end up married to her love of her life, the way she wanted it, the way she could handle, seeing how she transformed him? Incredible. NO but like I adore Kotoko, she's not annoying to me she's strong and smart in other ways, she's great in her kindness, humanity and heart and she was able to do whatever she wanted, achieved her purpose as a nurse and find her self within. I envy her sometimes may not with who she is with but yeah haha)
Ty/Kit (Shadowhunters, I’m waiting to fall in love with them even more when Wicked powers consume me, this will be my next focus, all of this to do with them, I adore these two so much, I adore everything that’s happening between both of them and I already see the signs of what makes one my favorite, one makes me care and love a character, these two are going to have it, and if they don’t you’ll see me being sad for now they are from the other books in this series still important and serious to me) 
Wave/Pang (The gifted, don’t think this is a surprise similar to Naruto I love these two the most when they’re interacting or near each other. I love their growth, their arcs, their personalities, I enjoy everything it is to do with these 2, again themes of sacrifice, breaking the system and making it what they want, again brokenness and how to accept ones flaws and weaknesses and make it strength, again loyal and kind and powerful in their own ways how they affect their show, and story )
Gram/Black (ONLY the novel Not me, you won’t catch me slipping. These two mean a lot to me, Black does in the novel, I adore him, I loved everything about him, and everything about Gram, not their actions per say but them their arc, their discovery, and self awareness, their growth, their struggles, their strengths, their weaknesses I loved it all with these 2. Perfect ending and story for these two, so much depth despite the fact it didn’t seem like it, so much power in just flashbacks. I love  both)
This is where my current mindset is at, I tend to love the portrayals of ‘brokenness’ in media and self-discovery in characters, characters who are triumphant and human despite the life they were forced to have and how they react to that, I also love brave characters who do what they need to do despite others mocking or trying to bring them down. It's all about strength, self-discovery, and acceptance, and love and kindness persisting through despite some of the arcs the characters do endure and go through. I love characters who fight against social norms and make their own story and get it to work and it isn't muted. I love characters who care so much for others innately, and sometimes it leads them to be too sacrificial and I love when their love interests/partner shows them how loved and protected they are for that. So yeah. That’s the mind space I’m in right now. 
Hope this answers your question I literally gave you top 20 not top 10 haha cause I love every character in that list, and there are more I love but it’s just not with me at this mindset.
