Something that makes reading TOA so devastating is how fucking much Apollo feels about Everything. There’s so MUCH. Like I don’t even know how to describe it to you if you haven’t read the books yourself. He has so many complicated thoughts and emotions about just about everything and he cares about everything so much and there is just SO MUCH going on in his head. And yet none of it ever reaches his mouth!!
He almost never says what he’s feeling. What little comes out of his mouth about his thoughts barely even scratches the surface of what he actually means. Like he’ll be having a long ass monologue about how incredible someone is, showing a deep understanding of them as a person and empathizing with them so hard you’d almost think it’s projection but it’s not he’s legitimately just mind melding with this random person he met like a week ago and he’s thinking the softest, kindest thoughts about them like he knows they’re fucking incredible - and what comes out of his mouth is just like, “you’re a wonderful friend :)” AND ITS LIKE. THERES SO MUCH MORE UNDER THE SURFACE. the sheer admiration and adoration he has for everyone around him……… UGHHH!!! But he never VOICES ANY OF IT!!!!!! He never tells anyone about what Zeus did to him……. He never tells anyone except the reader about his realization that Zeus is abusive…. He never even tells commodus about how much he adored him, not then and not now… he refuses to tell anyone when he’s in pain or tries to justify the things he does when he actually had Decent Reasons for why he did something… I’m. I’M. AUGH. AHHHHH
HE DOESN’T EVEN TELL US ALL OF HIS THOUGHTS IS THE THING. THERES EVEN MORE THAT HE IS NOT TELLING US!!!!! THE FUCKING OCEAN OF FEELINGS AND THOUGHTS HE HAS ABOUT EVERYTHING IS THE CLIFF NOTES VERSION. I AM IN DISTRESS.
And YET…. Even what slips out of his mouth is so fucking devastating it is SO devastating. He’s so fucking kind and gentle with Harley and Meg and and other younger Demis and his kids… he’ll act like an obstinate idiot and then turn around say something that drags the core of the person he’s talking to into the light like nail on the fucking HEAD like he reached into their soul and gave them the words to express something that they were struggling to say aloud or that they didn’t even realize about themself. Around the 2nd book he starts putting voice to some of his feelings and thoughts about others and even that tiny fucking sliver is overwhelming to the people he’s talking to bc he’s SO. AUGHHHH
I brought out one dish of veggies this evening and they shared pretty successfully! Newt Took over the dish and was politely guarding it (giving a hard stare when Toto tried to take food out of the bowl), I helped out by dumping some veg out and scattering it a couple inches away from the bowl. After a couple more attempts at eating from the bowl and politely shuffling away when newt said "no" Toto turned to the scattered veg and happily ate that. Newt even allowed him to nibble at the debris newt had wiped on the edge of the veggie bowl.
Really reasonable levels of resource guarding, respectful response, ample patience, and both of them self-settling on a communal compromise. lovely!
and this was downstairs, just outside of the bird room. I switched up the routine a bit so instead of grabbing Toto and heading down I grab Newt, head up for Toto, then head back down. and that seems to have completely resolved the chasing problem.
Poor sweet noodle man was just feeling like he was second best :(
it's kind of funny to me, albeit very interesting, that I'm a very picky eater and yet have also become a locavore and something of a 'foodie' per se, I really enjoy food (and cooking!), and going to unique and sometimes upscale restaurants serving ~local ingredients~ and I really value a quality dining experience and learning the character of new places through their food. yet I got a 29 on that picky eater test lol
ive struggled super hard these past two years through a nasty breakup and moving back to my parents and struggling through my mothers shit treatment then my awful job that sucked all the life out of me for months on end and destroyed my self esteem then my health issues on health issues and my mental health taking a severe slide i just. i always had into1 they really made me so happy and there was always something to make me smile. and i always knew they were a temporary group but the reality didnt really hit me, it still hasnt really hit me that theyre not together any more... i miss them already and its only been like 3 hours. when something has really meant a lot to you for that long its so difficult to let go even when you knew it was going to end. i have some close close friends i met through being fans of into1. they truly brought so many people together and they love each other so muvh and its not the end of their friendship but its the end of them publicly interacting.. theyll be out there on their own but them being a group was really the peak for me, the interactions and seeing them be such close friends... its what rly made me happiest. this is so rambly im sorry i just have a lot of emotions. its sort of like losing an emotional crutch and theyve been so much to me for so long. you can tell by how much of my art folder over the past two years has just been into1. this is just from my phone as well i don't save all my art on my phone
im just. im going to struggle without them and adjusting will be. not fun. theyve had such a good influence on my life. im excited to see what they do next but I'm also going to miss them like a missing limb
Oh the Ironic of Being a Genius in their field but get shaft over due to the shackle of having early 2000 bumbling idiot dad trope.
-Funny enough even doe i think he work best as a part of a dynamic, his charaterization is best when he is away from acting as an Unit with Maddie.
-I think, among the two fenton parent he is the more easily relatable one, due to his rarely spoken of emotional insecurity masked with the tough out happy go lucky personality.
I don't get what's so hard to understand about "Don't talk about Nancy or Steve or NancySteve you don't have the proper clearance" like how many times must I say it!!!
As an omnivore who likes vegan and vegetarian cooking I think the mistake a lot of people make when trying to convince meat eaters to go plant based is trying to convince them that something you’ve got will replace meat for them.
I like vegan nuggets and real chicken nuggets for different reasons. They taste different. They only taste identical to you because you haven’t eaten meat for five years.
When cooking for myself I only eat meat maybe like three times a week because vegetarian cooking is often cheaper and it tastes good.
Like just give people the actual recipes you use that aren’t pasta. Every time you ask what to eat on a meatless day people are like. Pasta. I don’t want pasta every day.
Point out the foods people already eat that are vegetarian. Like sweet potato fries, veggie chow mein, grilled mushrooms, mashed potatoes, black bean enchiladas, peanut butter sandwiches. Tell people what you microwave when you’re drunk at 3am. Show people that vegetables are so good they’ll want them in their diet.
Also some people are just never gonna go vegan. They’re just not. I’m certainly not, and I love vegan food. But since I’ve fallen in love with vegetarian cooking I eat meat much less and I’m much more careful about picking the meat I do eat. Doesn’t that align with a lot of your goals?
Impossible burger doesn’t taste like meat. But you know what tastes really good? A mushroom fajita taco. Falafel. Potato pancakes with applesauce. Smoky vegan collared greens. Hot potato salad with herbs. Palak paneer with rice. Tofu Pad Thai with extra peanuts. Some of my favorite foods of all time, and I’m a dirty rotten meat eater. Use THAT to get your foot in the door. And be more accepting of some half-assed victories. I’m on your side for the most part, believe it or not. But stop trying to claim certain things are just like meat. You and I both know you don’t plan most of your weeknight dinners around meat substitutes.
