You whip your head to Renjun on your left, lingering stuttering over the fingers dancing down Jisung’s button-up shirt.

“Your lip,” Renjun repeats, this time pointing at your mouth.

“My …” You actually face Renjun now and touch your bottom lip, then notice the sting when the skin pulls apart. “Oh, yeah, sorry. It’s just so -“ You inhale sharply. “- hot - warm, right now. Just looking at everyone is making me sweat.”

“Sure.” Renjun nods. “I’m going to get some water. D’you want one?” You nod. “Okay, be right back.”

As you watch Renjun head into the kitchen, Jisung says your name, followed by an innocent honorific.

You hum back, not having heard him properly; you should probably pay attention more, since everyone is deciding where to have lunch.

“Is something on your mind?”

“Oh.” You lick your lips (then wince at the slit breaking further). “Yeah,” you answer slowly. You pull dig into your bag on the floor. “You, um, look hot - warm, Jisung,” you correct, again, halfway, digging the heel of your palm into your thigh. “I - I have a mini fan, if you want.” You bring it up, as a barrier between the two of you because he leaned forward.

“I’m okay,” he promises, then takes off his jacket and undoes a second button. “My shirt is light enough, I think.”

And he’s not wearing a tank top underneath either.

You consider Cooper's words carefully, glancing between the mark around your wrist and the cloak hung on the wall behind you--which is slowly turning a slightly calmer shade of yellow. You're sticking to your decision to not tell Cooper too much, so the fewer questions you ask the better.

But you still want to know more.

"What is the Emerald Grove? Can you tell me about the Emerald Drakes that come from there?" you ask after a beat of silence filled only with Cooper's patient tea-sipping. She stops sipping her tea at that question, and very gingerly sets her cup down.

"The Emerald Grove is..." she hums a little in thought, eyes darting to the mark on your wrist. She shakes her head, deciding on different words. "Time passes differently in the Far Weald, in a way that I can't really explain to someone who's only ever lived here. But even by Far Weald standards, time passes weird in the Emerald Grove. Most folk avoid it. Except, notably, for the dryad forest wardens. It's a forest of petrified trees, and sometimes they produce seeds that can become an egg for an Emerald Drake."

Cooper looks at you pointedly, and shifts a little in her seat.

"A thing to understand is, that as much as the Far Weald is a legend here... the Emerald Grove and its Drakes are a legend there. People don't go there, and if they wanted to they wouldn't know how. Whenever an Emerald Drake is born it's... an upheaval. It's change. And so much of the Far Weald is accustomed to constancy. An Emerald Drake could turn the entire political field on its head."

Cooper taps her fingers around her cup carefully. She looks you up and down, eying your various pockets. She doesn't pry though, instead giving her head a little shake to dispel whatever she's thinking about.

"Waist-deep indeed," she murmurs. "You can stay here love, and maybe it's good you came. If the Far Weald is the reason you're traveling I might be able to hold it at bay for a day or two. But there's a risk."

"What risk?" you ask with a frown.

"I can ward my home to help prevent unwanted fey entry, but the risk is wards will draw attention to us. We might be safer trying our luck by blending in with everyone else. Considering you know more about the situation than I do, I'll leave the choice up to you."
