The best songs of the 1970s
“What started out as a joke has turned into a disaster!” - Stu Nahan, Rocky IV
So my employment has me in my car a lot, which means I’m listening to the radio a lot. If I’m not listening to a podcast or baseball game through my phone I also have SiriusXM, which of course has a plethora of musical options. I gravitate to the 70s and 80s channels because, well, of course I do.
Something else about me you may or may not know is that I love ranking things. I have a Note on my phone I’m regularly accessing that is nothing but different types of rankings.
Thus, you can imagine my excitement when the 70s on 7 station announced a listener-voted Top 700 Songs of the 70s countdown over Labor Day weekend. It was a fun listen. They went through it twice over the four day weekend, and I was laboring much so I heard much.
It prompted me to think: What are my top seventy songs of the 70s? Surely I wasn’t going to come up with a top 700. After all, some in that list were real stinkers. But seventy? No problem. And indeed, it wasn’t hard to come up with that many songs. The hard part was narrowing it down. And once I did, there were still so many songs on my list I had enough for more lists, so I expanded it to 140, then 210, and... well...
I’m about to give you the authoritative list of the 350 best songs of the 1970s. I originally put out a Top 70 list on Facebook a few weeks ago. Much that of that list remains the same, with a few changes. But now there is much more. I’ve divided these into five “volumes” of seventy songs. They are my picks, but I welcome your feedback, because what’s a good set of rankings without debate and discussion.

BLACK SEA (p. lahote)
SO THIS IS MY ATTEMPT ON WRITING THE PROMPT I POSTED A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. THIS IS JUST AN ATTEMPT.
Freya had been with the Cullens for quite and they were the only who ones who know of her real nature. After escaping the terror of Ragnarok by some miracle, she is sent to Midgard or also known as Earth in human tongue.

She is taken under by Carlisle and Esme as their first child. The couple had nothing but kind parental figures that Freya’s real parents can’t be and not wanting to destroy the bond between these two immortal beings, she revealed herself as the Nordic Hound, Fenris. She Who Dwells in the Marshes.
Freya told them how she only wanted to be accepted and love. She told them that she had thought the gods loved her for they took care of her for all her childhood but because of their fear of her overpowering them, they bounded her down and stuck a sword to her mouth, forever leaving her grieving and hurting as the days of Ragnarok came. The day she vowed to swallow the bastard god Odin. But upon the arrival of the said day, she wasn’t prepared for the consequences of her world’s end. She was left alone. With no one else to care for her.
The Cullens, whom were thoroughly captured by her melancholic life decided to take her in as their own and will forever call her as their own no matter what kind of being she was. They vowed that they will take her secret to the grave. And in them she found what her heart desired for eons.
Their family grew bigger and bigger as witnesses of her primordial existence grew but only within her family. Unlike the shape shifter, she didn’t reek any kind of dog mutt smell that any vampire’s strong sense of smell can breathe. Her scent is composed of fresh bloomed roses and pine. She lived among the most dangerous predator as another monster.
For thousands of years she and Cullens roamed, living country after country, life after life. They didn’t need to worry of feeling of belongingness as Freya gave her whole heart to them and loved them enough to allow themselves to never linger in the darkness of their damnation by feeding on blood. Her appearance may trick any person that she is the youngest of the Cullens but she is actually the eldest of all the foster siblings. She adapts to each of them in their first years of vampirism. Making sure to keep them bay and providing them the emotional help that they need. She had adapted her human form to almost match their skin tone that she would almost look like a vampire herself but when their eyes glowed in crimson, hers glowed in green as it mirrored her abilities in her other form.
In human, they are dull green but sparked the light in the family but when in tap with her lycanthrope, they are a yellow green that always glared at murderous intent. No one but her family can tame her monstrosity.
Her life with them is simple and quiet but that was until they transferred to small town called Forks. Where they encounter a Quileute tribe forming a treaty with them and showing them Freya’s true nature to show that they can live in piece with them. For years, from that they on she never showed her true form as she believes that this wolf nature of hers can only be called upon to only serious occasion like the Volturi, just in case as Freya didn’t like them at all. But she did manage to cloak her true self from their judging and immoral eyes. She knew that if they found out about her origin, it could mean danger for both humans and creatures.
And then came Bella Swan. Which brings us to this day.
- Midgard, Forks -
Newborns were threatening the lives in Forks and Bella’s that caused two mystical creatures to be gathered in the middle of a clearing. Freya had hung herself dangling from a thick branch with her legs out of boredom. Today was the day where she and family would meet the wolf pack to train under Jasper.
This would probably her first time encountering a pack as she had been a lone wolf all her life well before she met Cullens. They were her pack. Her home. And she will not stop at nothing to keep the safe. Bella included.
“Hey sweetie, can you come down for a bit?” Esme called to her. Freya looked down to meet her mother’s face before catapulting off the branch and landing smoothly in a crouch position.
Esme smiled a bit, ‘old habits die hard I guess’ she thought as her daughter stood straight. The girl may have been raised by them for a long while and tried to teach her human etiquettes as much as possible but they cannot change the fact that Freya is still a wolf and her k9 idiosyncrasies will always been intact as habit. But they all still love her anyway.
“What is it mom?” Esme caressed her head, “This is your first time meeting wolf pack. Any last minute comments?” her daughter retorted as they walked side by side towards where her other siblings were.
“Well I am curious since I’ve been a lone wolf for quite a while. Besides, I know I can handle them. I’m the Alpha of Alphas.” Freya grinned, “Yep, and I know big sis can show those whose the real boss.”
The green-eyed girl phased her head to meet her buff younger brothers and blonde sister. Smiling at them, she transferred herself from her mother’s embrace to the buff male. “Please don’t get to rowdy Em. You’re ass might end up on the floor of you keep being sassy.” With an eye-roll he replied with his wife sighing-ly smiled at her husband, “Yes sister, you know still don’t get why we let you be our elder sister when you are distinctively in a body of a sixteen year old. If you ever had a boyfriend, people might sue him for pedophilia.” Freya’s mouth shot open as her face contorted into disbelief as she was clearly offended. Rosalie and Esme stared at each other, eyes wide and awkward echoing the same thought in their minds.
‘Oohh he’s gonna get it.’
Carlisle and Edward stood in good approximate from where Sam Uley’s pack gathered. He was just in the middle of explaining about the difference of the New Borns when…
“*BLAGHH*”
Emmette’s figure flew above them and hitting a tree before falling to the ground. Everyone’s attention turned to his groaning figure trying to stand and then came a, “YOU LITTLE SHIT! I’LL PUT GARLIC OIL IN YOUR CESAR SALAD FOR A WEEK!!” from the clearing came an angry Freya, stomping her way to where Emmette stood.
Esme and Rosalie had arrived, the former being the making way beside her husband to report the sudden commotion while the latter stood from a few steps, trying to keep herself from bursting out laughing and feeling a tinge of guilt for laughing at her soulmate.
“Emmette called her little indirectly.” As much as Carlisle wanted to laugh, he held himself as he was in the middle of a serious meeting.
“Ow! Ow! Ow! Come on Freya! I was just kidding! I’m sorry!” Not yet noticing her crowd, Freya grabbed his neck and had him on his feet. Her seemingly fragile and petite figure dragged him away from where landed.
Jacob had never seen this girl around the Cullens. Sam and his packed eyed in disbelief with this scene. But one thing came to their attention. Her scent, it didn’t match the Cullens not one bit.
“That’s the three hundred and twelveth time you called me out! I am older than you Emmette now you better respect me or I’ll ground you from watching any baseball game and dad won’t be able to—” “Um, Freya sweetheart.”
Her father’s smooth voice called her, breaking her plundering anger. She turned to meet his face to see him and her mother giving her an awkward smile, ‘you can kill him later sweetie.’ Their face said.
Like Rosalie. Alice, Jasper and Edward tried to hold themselves back from laughing as they were in really serious meeting. Bella was confused but had a ridiculous smile secretly etched on her lips with the way the eldest held the muscled man by the neck.
Freya turned to a swift to the pack of wolves across her. Staring at her.
“Oh..uh.. s-sorry. I’ll-I I’ll just go back here. Please continue.” Clearly embarassed she continued to scolded Emmette this time about confounding in the middle of a war meeting.
“Alright, returning back to topic. Our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first several months in this life.” Carlisle continued before turning to Jasper to continue.
The blonde male proceed his lecture about the Newborns. This time noticing Freya clearly attentive at this time of need. Not that he hadn’t told about her about the natures of Newborns before but because she knew when to take tings seriously. That’s was why she can substitute herself as head in their family, similar to an Alpha as Carlisle had entrusted her with keeping all of them safe since she is a force a lot stronger to be reckon with. The sparring began. All came in pairs showing their four-legged temporary allies how Newborns. Then came her turn.
Turning to Emmette, to Jasper and Edward. Indicating a quick nod.
“One more note, I believe this would be rather useful to all of you since you are a pack and share a connection with each other.” She trailed as they eyed her yet her eyes remained to the black wolf as if trying to emphasize something.
“Never.” Emmette appeared behind him and locked her in a headlock with no sense of holding back, “Ever. Try.” Edward and Jasper neared her immobilized figure, “To Be Alone. In a Swarm.”
Her eyes flashed the poison green glow. Making every fur in their bodies stand as if they were slashed by a blade like a samurai right before their eyes.
Her feet lifted from the ground as her momentum in a cartwheel bringing Emmette on her life causing him break his choke hold and for her hook her own arm around his neck to a choke hold and slamming him down to the dirt ground.
“Not unless your like me.” She smirked before turning with both her arms extended as she ran towards Jasper and Edward and grabbing their necks and swiftly slamming them down to the ground as well before they could even fight back.
“Remember this little Alpha.”
Recomposing herself, she turned back to Sam and began to eye all of the wolves. Making sure to meet her glowing green eyes. Staring up at her. Even the Alpha himself gazed upon her as if she was the highest being that ever existed. It was as if she was his leader, his sovereign and ruler.
“A lone wolf may die but a pack always survives.”
To the Cullens, it may sound like a reminder but to the wolves, it was more of warning especially to Sam.
It was almost like an instinct as after her warning, all of their heads lowered and whimpers dripped from their snouts. In their minds, it was if they were beneath the gaze of the beast with the fear that if they meet her glowing poisonous green orbs, it could be interpret as disrespect and cause them their damnation.
Peering to each tamed heads one by one, Freya stared down at them as she didn’t speak of the warning as a type of threat but as an advice if they want to last a night. She could sense their hatred and egotism towards their mortal enemies.
But a sound of growling caught her attention. Sam took notice of this as well and it take long before found out that its source is the grey wolf beside him.
‘Paul stop!!’
‘Paul Calm down!!!’
But the male didn’t budge. This bloodsucker had no right to order. She wasn’t his alpha and he doesn’t take orders from a girl.
Her feet crunch the forest floor with every step until it reached Paul’s lowered vision. It was moments like this that Freya liked her primordial hierarchy among the children of the moon. Her love on putting people to place gives her sense of satisfaction.
“Gaze upon me mortal creature.” Her hand hovered under his snout and my a unknown force, his head was lifted to meet her piercing eyes. But what came next was the last thing Paul Lahote would ever expect with a goddess.

30 Days of Fanfic, Part One
I’m a little late to the party, so I figured I would post my answers in parts instead of individually.

1 – How did you get into fanfic?
How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
For as long as I can remember I have been writing stories. Honestly, I think my first fanfiction was for FFVII. I came up wild ideas and detailed them to my friends on the playground in elementary school. I distinctly remember acting out scenarios like chocobo racing! Other than FFVII, I was also into Sailor Moon and other anime since I was in middle school. For the first fic I posted and shared online, I used fanfiction.net to share stories for Cowboy Bebop, Legend of Zelda, and Yu Yu Hakusho, (to name a few).
Colorful characters and engaging stories were what caught my eye, and the desire to explore them more and send more time with them is what drove me to write.
2 – What fandoms have you written in?
Name the fandoms you’ve written in, how much you’ve written in those fandoms, and if you still write in them.
Final Fantasy XV is the fandom that I have written the most for, but I’m starting to get back into FFVII as well. Other than that, I’ve dabbled in several others: Cowboy Bebop, Legend of Zelda, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin…etc.
3 – Favorite characters?
For each of the fandoms you have written in, what were/are your favorite characters to write? Why were they your favorite?
In FFXV, I love to write any of the four chocobros, mainly because their relationships are my favorite to explore. Prompto is my favorite of the four though, probably because I related to him the most while playing the game.
4 – Muse/special character?
Do you have a ‘muse’ character that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn’t about them? Who are they, and why did that character become your muse? Are they a canon character or OC?
I don’t really have a ‘muse’ character, though I tend to write mostly fics involving Prompto when it comes to FFXV. I think it’s because I am most comfortable with him and understand his personality the best.
5 – Envisioning characters?
Do you have techniques you use to help you visualize a character? Have you commissioned or created art to go with your fics, or provided references for readers or yourself?
I am a VERY visual person, so I love to commission art for for my fics. I also spend a lot of time creating mood boards and playlists to help inspire me.
6 – Gender preference?
When you write, do you have a gender preference for your protagonist and/or the rest of the cast? Is it the same or different from your own gender? Do you feel your own gender is well represented, and how do you go about accurately portraying genders different from your own?
I don’t mind writing male or female characters, though most of what I write tends to be male focused. Although I identify as female, I lean more masculine in my personality. I think it’s fun to play around with writing different facets of gender and bend gender norms.
7 – Fic affecting your view of a character?
Have you ever had a fic you’ve written change your opinion of a character? Or has a fic you’ve read changed your opinion on a character?
Definitely! There are certain ships I never would have considered if not for fic…sometimes prompts help me look at a character in a different way, and any well written story can change my opinion of a character for better or worse.
8 – OCs
Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they’re not Mary Sues? Explain your thoughts on OCs.
I do when the situation requires them, or a certain canon character doesn’t fit into a particular role. I try not to make OCs the star of the show when writing fanfiction, but when I do use them I feel like it’s important to weave them in naturally and make them as ‘human’ and believable as possible so they are well-liked and received by readers.
9 – Favorite pairings and your comfort zone
What are your favorite pairings to write in your fandoms? Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn’t write, or a pairing you didn’t like, and found you could?
I am a multi-shipper at heart, so in FFXV I enjoy any combination of the bro ships, though I lean more towards Promptis and Gladnis. I’ve experimented with writing other ships through prompts or events, and I am always pleasantly surprised by how fun it is. Really, I just love exploring relationships between characters in any shape or form.
10 – Writer’s block and procrastination
Have you ever experienced writer’s block or an impeded ability to write? How do you tackle a loss of motivation or executive dysfunction? How does procrastination hinder or help you?
I don’t believe in ‘writer’s block,’ but I’ve definitely had low motivation days or days where I didn’t want to write. When that happens, I give myself a break and go and do something else, then come back later and try again. Sometimes, re-reading my work helps me to identify where I’m stuck, or I’ll rely on my trusty editor (wife) to give me pointers on where they think the story could go. When all else fails, sprints or telling myself to write X amount of words usually helps. Like any other skill or hobby, you get better the more you practice.

Hi, you can call me Reece. I am a twenty-seven year old university student, who is studying psychology and english literature. A lot of my time is spent studying, thus the lack of a social life, but in my spare time I like to read, write, play video games, and watch movies, among other things. I have a variety of hobbies and love making friends with like minded individuals. Admittedly, I can be a bit shy in the beginning, so forgive me. I have been writing since I was ten, and discovered roleplaying when I was fourteen. I started out in chat rooms, bounced around forums, and was even a member of the now defunct Quizilla. I’m trying to make a comeback within the roleplay world after having to take unforeseen hiatuses due to ongoing health issues. At this time I am looking for something casual and relaxed; nothing stressful. I will list my rules and such, in addition to what I'm craving below.
what I’m looking for in a partner
Someone willing to take the time to sit down and plan out a story we’ll both enjoy.
Someone who will respect me in the same manner as I will them. It’s a two way street and I’m tired of being disrespected and harassed.
Someone who will take the time to read my rules and regulations. There have been too many instances where I’ve discovered people have either disregarded my rules or simply glossed over them. In exchange if you have any concerns please bring them to me.
Someone who understands that I won’t be able to respond every day. I’ve been dealing with an ongoing health issue since back in June and every month it’s been constant trips to the doctor. It will take me a bit, have patience with me, please. There are some days where I might only be up for talking OOC, then there are others where you might not hear me because I simply don’t feel well.
Someone who doesn’t mind that I’m that person who adores our roleplay so much that I will make everything from mood boards, edits, and playlists dedicated to our characters, ships, etc.
Someone who doesn’t mind talking outside of roleplay. Another perk of roleplay is finding friends and that’s what I seek. I would like to find someone who I can build a friendship with. We can fangirl over our story and our ships, talk about our day and slowly get to know one another. ❤

basic:
Contact me with what fandom(s) you’re interested in, we’ll make a mutual decision on the choice, before exchanging oc information and discussing plots. The format is what we’re all used to: portraying our oc’s, each other’s love interest(s) and side characters.
doubles:
More or less the same as above, except if there is more than one thing you’d like to do and are up for doing more than roleplay, than we can. I will probably only accept 2-3 per person, due to time management.
split:
The format is similar to the basic formula, we both choose one fandom of our respective sides. Then, we exchange oc information, love interests and plots.
split 2.5:
This is similar to the former, but different than the ones before it. Normally, a split roleplay is done where we choose two separate fandoms; but I can make an exception for a basic format if that is what you wish. Now, here is where it’s different after we choose our respective fandoms, along with our oc information we will include a big or small write up of a plot for our character and their love interest(s). Now, I will give my partner full-rein in regards to what kind of plot they want. Want a storyline filled with drama and mayhem? Go for it. Want a reverse harem storyline with four characters vying for your character’s heart? Fine with me. This is your opportunity to play out any kind of headcanons and storylines you wish. I only ask for nothing that violates my rules or limits, otherwise sky’s the limit. I will may accept 2-3 per person. If you need help with a storyline, let me know.
rules and regulations
length:
Normally, I will write one to two paragraphs on both sides. However, that is not my limit for I can write anywhere between one to five paragraphs per sides. Length for a single paragraph can range anywhere between 200-500+ words, whereas each individual side usually equates anywhere from 400-800+ words. I like to consider myself a paragraph|multi-paragraph writer, although I know a lot of people are converting to novella writers, I can accommodate to a novella partner just beware that it will take me longer to reply to you as opposed to someone else. This is due to how much time and effort that goes into novella responses. I am the type of person who likes to take the time to construct a quality response, rather than rush and send someone a response for the sake of replying. Which is why I ask, please give me time to write your response.
format:
I can write in either first or third person, despite preferring first because I can connect with my character more; I will do whatever my partner feels more comfortable with and if that’s second so be it. Also, don’t forget that roles between the two of us should follow accordingly; I play my OC, your love interest(s) and additional side characters. While you play your OC, my love interest(s) and additional side characters.
love interests, mary sues, and spotlight:
I’m lenient when it comes to love interests, as I allow more than one suitor for our characters because love triangles make the story more interesting. However, I would ask that if we just so happen to have the same choice(s) for a love interest that we don’t fight about it; instead try to sort things out. I’ve literally had someone threaten me, simply because I liked the same person as them (I’m not kidding). Second, I’m not an extremist when it comes to characters; meaning I won’t knit pick about every little thing. All I ask is no Mary-Sues and no hogging the spotlight; this is a storyline created between the two us. Let’s share it please.
spelling and grammar:
There are a lot of people who tend to knit pick about this; but rest assured I will not. All I ask is that you have a decent grasp on both spelling and grammar. Do this and we’ll get along fine; this is something that I can and will promise you.
manners and etiquette:
This should be common knowledge, but all I ask is that during our time writing together that you treat me with respect and courtesy; I will return the gesture as it is only right. I’d like us to get along, I would hate for a disagreement to ensure and there was bad blood between us due to something frivolous.
patience and commitment:
I am a full-time student, attending college and leave for school early in the morning and return home later in the afternoon; I am usually quite tired when I return home, but I try to reply to my partners as frequent as possible. However there are times, unfortunately when I cannot reply when I’d like due to an abundant amount of assignments, health issues which can lead to me becoming sick or an emergency at home. I try to inform my partners of these occurrences, but if you don’t hear from me in two weeks time don’t be afraid to send me a message and ask me about it. What I won’t accept, is being spammed every five seconds with the same message; again and again because I’m not replying like you’d like me to. I do my best to get to you all, roleplay is supposed to be fun and enjoyable; an escape from reality for both of us. It shouldn’t have to feel like a job. I will do the same for you because I understand everyone here has different lives and schedules to attend to; but please don’t ditch me half-way through the roleplay. If you need to take a break or something; then please tell me. I don’t bite- I’ll understand.
limits:
Upon sending a request please include your limits; the last thing I wish is to make you uncomfortable. My own limits include but are not limited to the following: male x male, female x female, incest, paedophilia, and bestiality. This is where my limits stand as of now and may or may not change depending on future roleplays. If you’re unsure about something please don’t hesitate to ask me. In regards to what I will do well I am open to mature themes within my roleplays; actually, I would prefer if my partner was as well. These themes are but not limited to: foul language, violence, blood/gore (but not too heavy, please), smut, sex, alcohol, drugs ( prescription or not), mental illness, psychological themes and more. However, please be advised that I would like to keep everything to a certain level; this means while I do allow cursing, please do not have your character do so every other word. Also, I will not engage in a roleplay that is dedicated solely to sexual activities, alone. I believe that there is more to a storyline than this.
canon, crossovers and au:
I can do strictly canon roleplays or an alternate universe roleplay. Alternate Universes can range from ‘what if’ situations, different settings and scenarios. If you have an idea let me know, or we can brainstorm ideas together; I also have a list of AU prompts so let me know if you’d like to take a look at it. I am also crossover friendly
location:
I use mediums such as Skype, Discord and Kik to talk ooc, but tend to roleplay through Google Docs, Email (preferred) or Tumblr.

I’d like to chat on the sidelines with my partners, as it allows the two of us to get to know each other; thus making things less awkward for the both of us. Plus, I like to make friends with my partners and would enjoy the extra person to converse with.

In all seriousness don't contact me if you're going to ditch. I'm just tired of getting excited over requests and then get dropped. It's even more disappointing when it's something I was looking forward to or spent hours writing a starter. If there's something you want to be included or omitted let me know. If you need to step away from the roleplay, let me know. Please don't just stop replying or delete me or whatever. Now, if you haven't heard from me within a week or two send a follow-up message; I cannot stress this enough. Sometimes it's school, other times it's my health, there will be days where I don't have the strength to reply. Then, sometimes it's simply something as simple as an email being misplaced or a technical glitch. Regardless, I will always get replies to my partners; it just might take me longer. If you cannot understand this, then I am not the partner for you.
As mentioned at the beginning of this request I am looking for something casual and stress-free. I'm not the quickest replier due to school and health problems. Which is why I ask that you not harass me. I don't mind if it's been a few days or more and you give me a soft poke (i.e. ”Hey, I'm just checking in, etc). What isn't appropriate is sending me a string of messages in pursuit of a reply, getting angry with me for not responding, threatening to end the roleplay, or assuming that I've ditched because I haven't replied in a few days. When someone harasses me, I become stressed, when I become stressed, I will no longer want to continue the roleplay. I will simply end things altogether. Again, I don't mind a light nudge or friendly ask. Most days I'm up for OOC talk, even if the roleplay is on pause, but anything else will not be tolerated. I'm tired of it.

Ironclad & Open | Hifumi Yamada
A commission for @thesocialcorty! My first time writing for Yamada. I tried to emphasize more on his core personality rather than his quirks or gimmicky aspects.

Friends are few and far in between for Hifumi Yamada. You’ve come to know this in the two months that you’ve known him. Most of your classmates avoid him, deeming him to be nothing more than a creep, or a pervert. On one hand, you can understand this. Why bother to look underneath the surface when what you see on top disgusts you?
If you hadn’t of run into him by chance, then you wouldn’t have, either. While most people avoided Hifumi like the plague, there were a select few students who targeted him as often as possible. It wasn’t uncommon for his books to be smacked to the ground or thrown in the courtyard fountain.
Funnily enough, that’s how you got to know him. After helping him pick his things up, he had still been weepy. So, you decided to take him out for ice cream. From there, it was history. Hifumi proclaimed himself to be your new best friend, even showing up to eat lunch on the roof, with you.
Being followed around so persistently was practically social suicide, but high school wouldn’t last forever. Besides, the ironclad group of friends you had wouldn’t dump you over something so minor.
High schoolers could be so cruel. People who strayed from the norm were easily outcasted, many of them bullied. You were one of the few who didn’t care much about popularity, but you weren’t bullied because of your respectable intellect. And also because you wouldn’t tolerate that kind of treatment. Your tight-knit group of friends wouldn’t, either.
This was your last year. So soon, it wouldn’t matter.
To his credit, Hifumi was actually considerate of you. Perverted jokes and awkward moments still slipped into your interactions with him, but he was getting better at socializing. Contrary to what you thought, he wasn’t as awful a person as everyone else made him out to be.
You clutched your books to your chest as you made your way down the hall. Sometimes, you tutored other students after school. It was a quick and easy way to make money, just the way you liked it. It was late afternoon, probably four. Should you get something to eat on the way home? Or should you wait and cook something healthier? All you had was ramen noodles, at home. Grocery shopping happened every Friday, and you forgot to do it last week… Your eyes narrowed against the rich sunlight as you stepped into the school’s front yard, making your way towards the street.
Foot traffic wasn’t so bad after 3:30. All the students had already cleared out, desperate to head home and relax after a long day of work. You looked forward to getting home, kicking off your shoes and lounging on the couch. Maybe you would play some video games or just browse the internet. It had been a long week.
However, it seemed that fate had different plans for you. You halted as you heard your name, yelled loudly from the distance. That high-pitched, yet masculine register could only belong to one person.
“Hey, Hifumi.” You greeted with a soft smile. The plump young man halted as he finally reached you, kneeling over to catch his breath. He looked up to you with a grin and spoke in between pants, breath heaving in and out of him.
“Good afternoon, my blossomed beauty!” You learned that his nicknames for you came from genuine affection or jest, rather than perversion. Most others took offense to them, because he used them with people he hardly knew. You had been the one to tell him that nicknames only became appropriate after a comfortable relationship had been established. And to his credit, he had learned and changed his ways. “Allow me to walk you home! I beg!” Feeling the sudden need to tease him, you tipped your head and gave a wry grin.
“I dunno… Are you sure you can handle it?” At the jesting lilt in your voice, he straightened his spine, a determined expression on his face. Any signs of fatigue vanished.
“Absolutely! There is not a challenge in the world that I can’t handle. Looking down and cowering won’t get me any EXP, after all.” His hands landed on his hips as he struck a tall, confident pose. As if on cue, a small breeze jostled his hair and the tie of his uniform. Ever since you had befriended him, you noticed a change in his attitude. He was willing to stand up for himself, something you were grateful for. While you would defend him whenever possible, there would always be times when you weren’t around. It was comforting to know he could take care of himself.
“Well, alright.” You gave him a small smile, turning around and continuing to walk. Your home wasn’t too far from the academy, meaning that you didn’t have to take the subway or public transportation. Hifumi stayed at your side, a bounce in his step. A comfortable silence settled between the two of you.
The sun’s rays stretched over the city, casting brilliant hues of orange and yellow across the avenues and buildings. Time itself seemed to slow, with cars steadily driving past. This would be your last year at the academy.
A sense of nostalgia hit you. How many times would you walk this path? How much time did you have left, here? Graduation was only a few months away.
“So,” Hifumi’s voice snapped you from your train of thought, “Do you… like fanfiction?” You’ve enthused about your favorite anime and video games with Hifumi, before. But that was the first time he ever brought up fan content. Maybe he was afraid of being judged? You decided not to tease him, just in case. The last thing you wanted to do was make him feel like you were laughing at his passions.
“I do.” You nodded, and a wide smile bloomed across his face. It made sense. His main talent was doujin drawing and writing. So of course he would be into fan content.
“Really!?” In an instant, he reached behind and slid his backpack off his shoulder, fumbling with it as he walked. He seemed excited to show you something. Maybe a new doujin? Some fanart? You had seen his work, before. His skill level was incredibly impressive. He had a solid grasp on anatomy and perspective, areas where even the greatest of artists could struggle.
But that was no surprise, considering it was regarded as his ultimate talent. Others might have scoffed at him, but you knew the countless hours he spent practicing, mastering his craft. In order to prevent him from tripping, you stopped, letting him get his sketchbook out. “Here—take a look at this!”
He flipped through the messy pages frantically, before landing on what looked to be a drawing of him. In it, he was clad in what looked to be intricate armor, a lance clutched in one hand, a shield in the other. You were no stranger to self-insert content, having browsed it multiple times before. Many people tended to regard self-inserts as “cringy”, but more were open to it, these days.
The old prejudices against fan characters and “Mary Sues” were becoming more and more outdated, left behind. And that was certainly for the better. You allowed your gaze to roam over the details, before spotting the anxiety clear on his face.
“I really like it/” You gave him a smile. His expression immediately lit up, looking perhaps the happiest you had ever seen him. That was the kind of confidence you were hoping to encourage in him.
“Splendid!” He cheered, “I don’t tend to show people that kind of staff—self-inserts, y’know? So many don’t understand the pure craftsmanship and love that go into creating original characters!” He closed the sketchbook and put it back into his bag, zipping it shut in a firm, quick way. “Character creation is a form of art! And so is roleplaying—if you like that kind of stuff.” He waggled his eyebrows at you, prompting you to cross your arms, fixing him with a stern glare. Your spine straightened into an authoritative pose.
“I do enjoy roleplaying. But not the dirty kind!” You huffed and he deflated at your scolding. Deciding he had learned his lesson, you allowed your posture to loosen. “I would love to RP sometime, Hifumi.” Just like that, his beamed, any traces of disappointment gone. He wilted under your anger and flourished under your praise. It was remarkable how someone could change how they felt so quickly. But that was just another part of Hifumi’s personality that could be difficult for you to decipher.
“Really!?” He practically squealed, before clearing his throat and straightening his posture. “Well, I mean—that’d be cool.” He said coyly, continuing to walk down the street. You caught up easily, in a matter of a few steps. His joy was contagious, and you were soon unable to stop yourself from smiling.
Your time left at school, with your friends, was limited. But you were going to enjoy it at any cost, with Hifumi at your side.

Reflection:
Sarah Kliff’s article written in 2015, Do No Harm, was one to grab at my heartstrings when it begins with describing the fatal tragedy of four-year-old Nora Bostrom. She died from a central line infection which the article goes into detail in describing about how common they used to be and the widespread action that took place to bring the numbers down 70%.
Using a metaphor, Kliff represented the way that hospitals react to tragedies such as Nora’s as either “car crash hospitals” or “plane crash hospitals.” This really helped me as a reader understand different hospital’s intentions in trying to fix a problem as severe as central line infections. I didn’t realize they it was either a hit or miss with the effort that they put into trying to trace back to the source of a problem. I don’t know a lot about the medical industry, but I was surprised to hear how common these infections are and how easily they can be prevented by going through the simple sanitary checklist that doctor Pronovost came up with. It also surprised how hospitals even have to be compared to car crashes and plane crashes because I always assumed after a tragedy like Nora’s they would do everything they could to make sure it never happens again.
The nurses stepping up was a very heartwarming part because they are of a lower practice in the medical field when compared to a doctor working in intensive care. They were stepping up to doctors who weren’t being sanitary when changing the central line to a patient's heart and it ended up making a huge difference in the number of central line infections. Hearing about the way way that some hospitals choose to respond to certain deaths really angered me so knowing that such a small act that these nurses fulfilled made a huge impact that spread internationally made me not want to completely lose hope for these institutions.
Hearing Nora’s story and seeing the pictures of her without a doubt made the article so much more sympathetic. It opened my eyes to the necessity of being sanitary when dealing with medical conditions like hers, but really any medical condition because of how easily diseases can get ahold of us. I found the article very intriguing and enjoyed reading it.

NewsFlash: Next-Gen (Smaller) OmniPod Approved by FDA!
Today is a happy day for fans of Insulet's tubeless insulin pump system! The FDA has finally approved the next-generation OmniPod, which is 34% smaller, 25% lighter, and 16% slimmer — yet still holds same 200 units of insulin.
The new design will also feature a "pink slide insert," that pushes a piece of pink plastic to be visible through a new, second window in the center of the Pod, to "help users verify that the cannula has deployed" (see photo below).
The PDM (Personal Diabetes Manager) controller is also being updated, with the following enhancements:
The status screen will now always show details about your current insulin on board (IOB). This will include info on BOTH corrections and meal boluses (yay!)
The communication distance between the PDM and Pod is increased up to 5 feet (although the two must be side by side at start-up)
There's now a vibration option available for certain reminders and safety notifications (exactly which reminders are required to have an audible alarm will be published in the company's new Quick Start Guide, which they're working on now)
But the smaller Pod profile is the biggest change. "It's just a significant difference in wearing it -- a huge difference!," says Hjalte Hojsgaard, Insulet's Manager of Consumer Marketing, who does not have diabetes but has worn both systems.
It seems the diabetes community has been waiting on this FDA approval for a very long time (FDA submission happened in May 2011, but we saw conference demos long before that), and now it comes suddenly. "It was expected, but you never know until it's all tied up -- we just got a fax this morning with the green light," Hojsgaard says.
"Now we've got to focus on training of healthcare professionals, training our own staff, and making sure we get volume on the manufacturing line. We'll be converting about 40,000 patients; that's a lot of pods, so there's a lot of preparation that has to happen."
Note that this is a whole new system: the old Pods won't speak with the new PDM and vice-versa, Hojsgaard tells me. Costs will remain the same for users: around $35 per Pod, and a system setup cost of around $800 depending on your insurance. There will be no change to the Abbott FreeStyle test strips used in the PDM, btw.
The company expects to begin shipping the new system between late February and end of March 2013. But users like me will of course want the new Pod now, and want to know what they can do to get it asap. Here's what the company tells me:
Transition Made Easy (i.e. Automated)
"For 18 months we've been working diligently to set up a detailed process for communicating the switch to current users and transitioning them in a safe, easy and efficient manger. It's all going to be automated," Insulet's Senior Director of Marketing Sean Gallagher says.
Patients still under their four-year warranty will be automatically "switched out" to the new system, according to their regular reorder date. Anyone out of warranty would of course need to buy the new product. But Insulet is emphasizing that if you're thinking of just starting with the OmniPod, there is no reason to wait!
"You'll get transitioned easily as the new system becomes available," Gallagher says.
Existing customers will receive an email notification about the transition according to their appropriate reorder date. They will be prompted (and given a unique link) to complete a short online training program -- a brief introduction to the new system -- that will be tracked by Insulet. Once this is complete, "we put you in line to get on scheduled reorder," Gallagher says.
"If you don't respond to the emails, we'll call you. We'll reach out... so people don't need to worry about what they need to do to get the new system," he says.
Some especially anxious customers (hello!!) may be wondering if they can do a trade-in of a box of older Pods for the new ones. That's a no-go, sorry. "Keep in mind that millions of these are made and sent out every month. We have to do this transition in a way that is practical and convenient for everyone," Gallagher says.
The biggies are training HCPs so they're aware of the new system, and beefing up manufacturing capacity so that inventory doesn't become a problem.
In case you're wondering about CGM integration (as I was!), nothing new to report at this time. "We're still working on the best possible integrated solution. We don't have any firm timeline," Gallagher says.
Business Notes
What are the implications of this next-gen Pod in the diabetes device market? Not surprisingly, prolific D-industry analyst David Kliff (a.k.a. Diabetic Investor) has a few thoughts on that:
"Although not mentioned in the press release, it is well known that this new Pod lowers Insulet's cost of goods by approximately 20%+ which should help the company as it drives towards becoming truly profitable. The key now becomes insuring that the new Pod does not experience any manufacturing or quality issues. Diabetic Investor has been following how the new pod has been doing in Europe, where it is already on the market, and has yet to see any indications of any serious quality issues.
"This news also places even more pressure on Medtronic, who so far has only been able to sue Insulet and not come out with a patch pump of their own. As everyone knows, Medtronic has been doing lots of talking when it comes to the patch pump market, but this talk hasn't led to any actual product going to the FDA. Just as the company is falling behind Dexcom in the continuous glucose monitoring market, they are now in even further behind in the patch pump market."
Kliff says that if the OmniPod updgrade goes off without a hitch, this may put Insulet in an ideal position to reach their end goal -- being acquired by a larger player.
As an OmniPod user, I'm just really excited about smaller for now.

I have returned after a long and unforeseen hiatus, long story short some real life issues emerged [ one in particular being of the health variety, that had me back and forth at the doctor ] thus keeping me away from the roleplay world. So, I apologise to everyone who I was supposed to write with since back in June; it was honestly out of my hands. I have some spare time on my hands due to my on-going health issues and would like to find a few people to write and chat with. I just have a small forewarning, I will do my best to reply as swiftly as I can, but it might take me a little bit, so I ask that you have patience with me. In addition if you were someone I was speaking with at an earlier date, I apologise again. If you’re interested in continuing from where we left off, I’m open to it. ❤
What I’m looking for in a partner

Someone who will respect me in the same manner as I will them. It’s a two way street and I’m tired of being disrespected and harassed.

split 2.5:
This is similar to the former, but different than the ones before it. Normally, a split roleplay is done where we choose two separate fandoms; but I can make an exception for a basic format if that is what you wish. Now, here is where it's different after we choose our respective fandoms, along with our oc information we will include a big or small write up of a plot for our character and their love interest(s). Now, I will give my partner full-rein in regards to what kind of plot they want. Want a storyline filled with drama and mayhem? Go for it. Want a reverse harem storyline with four characters vying for your character's heart? Fine with me. This is your opportunity to play out any kind of headcanons and storylines you wish. I only ask for nothing that violates my rules or limits, otherwise sky's the limit. I will may accept 2-3 per person. If you need help with a storyline, let me know.

length:
Normally, I will write one to two paragraphs on both sides. However, that is not my limit for I can write anywhere between one to five paragraphs per sides. Length for a single paragraph can range anywhere between 200-500+ words, whereas each individual side usually equates anywhere from 400-800+ words. I like to consider myself a paragraph|multi-paragraph writer, although I know a lot of people are converting to novella writers, I can accommodate to a novella partner just beware that it will take me longer to reply to you as opposed to someone else. This is due to how much time and effort that goes into novella responses. I am the type of person who likes to take the time to construct a quality response, rather than rush and send someone a response for the sake of replying. Which is why I ask, please give me time to write your response.
format:
I can write in either first or third person, despite preferring first because I can connect with my character more; I will do whatever my partner feels more comfortable with and if that’s second so be it. Also, don’t forget that roles between the two of us should follow accordingly; I play my OC, your love interest(s) and additional side characters. While you play your OC, my love interest(s) and additional side characters.
love interests, mary sues, and spotlight:
I’m lenient when it comes to love interests, as I allow more than one suitor for our characters because love triangles make the story more interesting. However, I would ask that if we just so happen to have the same choice(s) for a love interest that we don’t fight about it; instead try to sort things out. I’ve literally had someone threaten me, simply because I liked the same person as them (I’m not kidding). Second, I’m not an extremist when it comes to characters; meaning I won’t knit pick about every little thing. All I ask is no Mary-Sues and no hogging the spotlight; this is a storyline created between the two us. Let’s share it please.
spelling and grammar:
There are a lot of people who tend to knit pick about this; but rest assured I will not. All I ask is that you have a decent grasp on both spelling and grammar. Do this and we’ll get along fine; this is something that I can and will promise you.
manners and etiquette:
This should be common knowledge, but all I ask is that during our time writing together that you treat me with respect and courtesy; I will return the gesture as it is only right. I’d like us to get along, I would hate for a disagreement to ensure and there was bad blood between us due to something frivolous.
patience and commitment:
I am a full-time student, attending college and leave for school early in the morning and return home later in the afternoon; I am usually quite tired when I return home, but I try to reply to my partners as frequent as possible. However there are times, unfortunately when I cannot reply when I’d like due to an abundant amount of assignments, health issues which can lead to me becoming sick or an emergency at home. I try to inform my partners of these occurrences, but if you don’t hear from me in two weeks time don’t be afraid to send me a message and ask me about it. What I won’t accept, is being spammed every five seconds with the same message; again and again because I’m not replying like you’d like me to. I do my best to get to you all, roleplay is supposed to be fun and enjoyable; an escape from reality for both of us. It shouldn’t have to feel like a job. I will do the same for you because I understand everyone here has different lives and schedules to attend to; but please don’t ditch me half-way through the roleplay. If you need to take a break or something; then please tell me. I don’t bite- I’ll understand.

Tell me your limits when sending a request, as the last thing I’d want is to make you uncomfortable. My limits consist of the following; malexmale/femalexfemale/incest/pedophilia/bestiality. This is where my limits stand, these may or may not change depending on future roleplays; however if you’re unsure about something please don’t hesitate to ask me. Now onto what I will do, I am open to mature themes within the roleplays; I actually encourage them. That includes; cursing, violence, blood, smut, alcohol and lemons. However, I would like to keep the language and lemons to a certain level, meaning no dropping ‘F’ bombs every five seconds and no roleplays dedicated to sexual activities and sexual activities alone. No, there is more to a roleplay than that and I will not engage in such.

Roleplay Redux [09.25.18]

Back in what I believe to be July of this year, I was forced to take an unforeseen hiatus. As some of you may know I have been dealing with issues with my health since last year; those same problems have since gotten worse and have made me weary. I apologise to those whom I was formerly speaking with or those who I still owe responses to; it was not my intention to abandon you. To those who are interested in continuing or starting a new with me, you may kindly (please) contact me at your leisure. As for those who are new here, I welcome you. I have an arrangement of choices that I hope someone fancies. I am in the process of trying to come out of the same hiatus I mentioned above. I have returned for the moment searching for anyone who is interested in both chatting and writing together. I have just a small forewarning, while I will do my best to reply swiftly to everything, it might take me some time to comply a proper response. Therefore, I ask that you have patience with me. If you cannot understand this or accept the fact that I cannot respond every single day, please seek partnership elsewhere. Thank you.
what I’m looking for in a partner
Someone willing to take the time to sit down and plan out a story we’ll both enjoy.
Someone who will respect me in the same manner as I will them. It’s a two way street and I’m tired of being disrespected and harassed.
Someone who will take the time to read my rules and regulations. There have been too many instances where I’ve discovered people have either disregarded my rules or simply glossed over them. In exchange if you have any concerns please bring them to me.
Someone who understands that I won’t be able to respond every day. I’ve been dealing with an ongoing health issue since back in June and every month it’s been constant trips to the doctor. It will take me a bit, have patience with me, please. There are some days where I might only be up for talking OOC, then there are others where you might not hear me because I simply don’t feel well.
Someone who doesn’t mind talking outside of roleplay. Another perk of roleplay is finding friends and that’s what I seek. I would like to find someone who I can build a friendship with. We can fangirl over our story and our ships, talk about our day and slowly get to know one another. ❤
types of roleplay
basic:
Contact me with what fandom(s) you’re interested in, we’ll make a mutual decision on the choice, before exchanging oc information and discussing plots. The format is what we’re all used to: portraying our oc’s, each other’s love interest(s) and side characters.
doubles:
More or less the same as above, except if there is more than one thing you’d like to do and are up for doing more than roleplay, than we can. I will probably only accept 2-3 per person, due to time management.
split:
The format is similar to the basic formula, we both choose one fandom of our respective sides. Then, we exchange oc information, love interests and plots.
split 2.5:
This is similar to the former, but different than the ones before it. Normally, a split roleplay is done where we choose two separate fandoms; but I can make an exception for a basic format if that is what you wish. Now, here is where it’s different after we choose our respective fandoms, along with our oc information we will include a big or small write up of a plot for our character and their love interest(s). Now, I will give my partner full-rein in regards to what kind of plot they want. Want a storyline filled with drama and mayhem? Go for it. Want a reverse harem storyline with four characters vying for your character’s heart? Fine with me. This is your opportunity to play out any kind of headcanons and storylines you wish. I only ask for nothing that violates my rules or limits, otherwise sky’s the limit. I will may accept 2-3 per person. If you need help with a storyline, let me know.
rules and regulations
length:
Normally, I will write one to two paragraphs on both sides. However, that is not my limit for I can write anywhere between one to five paragraphs per sides. Length for a single paragraph can range anywhere between 200-500+ words, whereas each individual side usually equates anywhere from 400-800+ words. I like to consider myself a paragraph|multi-paragraph writer, although I know a lot of people are converting to novella writers, I can accommodate to a novella partner just beware that it will take me longer to reply to you as opposed to someone else. This is due to how much time and effort that goes into novella responses. I am the type of person who likes to take the time to construct a quality response, rather than rush and send someone a response for the sake of replying. Which is why I ask, please give me time to write your response.
format:
I can write in either first or third person, despite preferring first because I can connect with my character more; I will do whatever my partner feels more comfortable with and if that’s second so be it. Also, don’t forget that roles between the two of us should follow accordingly; I play my OC, your love interest(s) and additional side characters. While you play your OC, my love interest(s) and additional side characters.
love interests, mary sues, and spotlight:
I’m lenient when it comes to love interests, as I allow more than one suitor for our characters because love triangles make the story more interesting. However, I would ask that if we just so happen to have the same choice(s) for a love interest that we don’t fight about it; instead try to sort things out. I’ve literally had someone threaten me, simply because I liked the same person as them (I’m not kidding). Second, I’m not an extremist when it comes to characters; meaning I won’t knit pick about every little thing. All I ask is no Mary-Sues and no hogging the spotlight; this is a storyline created between the two us. Let’s share it please.
spelling and grammar:
There are a lot of people who tend to knit pick about this; but rest assured I will not. All I ask is that you have a decent grasp on both spelling and grammar. Do this and we’ll get along fine; this is something that I can and will promise you.
manners and etiquette:
This should be common knowledge, but all I ask is that during our time writing together that you treat me with respect and courtesy; I will return the gesture as it is only right. I’d like us to get along, I would hate for a disagreement to ensure and there was bad blood between us due to something frivolous.
patience and commitment:
I am a full-time student, attending college and leave for school early in the morning and return home later in the afternoon; I am usually quite tired when I return home, but I try to reply to my partners as frequent as possible. However there are times, unfortunately when I cannot reply when I’d like due to an abundant amount of assignments, health issues which can lead to me becoming sick or an emergency at home. I try to inform my partners of these occurrences, but if you don’t hear from me in two weeks time don’t be afraid to send me a message and ask me about it. What I won’t accept, is being spammed every five seconds with the same message; again and again because I’m not replying like you’d like me to. I do my best to get to you all, roleplay is supposed to be fun and enjoyable; an escape from reality for both of us. It shouldn’t have to feel like a job. I will do the same for you because I understand everyone here has different lives and schedules to attend to; but please don’t ditch me half-way through the roleplay. If you need to take a break or something; then please tell me. I don’t bite- I’ll understand.
limits:
Upon sending a request please include your limits; the last thing I wish is to make you uncomfortable. My own limits include but are not limited to the following: male x male, female x female, incest, paedophilia, and bestiality. This is where my limits stand as of now and may or may not change depending on future roleplays. If you’re unsure about something please don’t hesitate to ask me. In regards to what I will do well I am open to mature themes within my roleplays; actually, I would prefer if my partner was as well. These themes are but not limited to: foul language, violence, blood/gore (but not too heavy, please), smut, sex, alcohol, drugs ( prescription or not), mental illness, psychological themes and more. However, please be advised that I would like to keep everything to a certain level; this means while I do allow cursing, please do not have your character do so every other word. Also, I will not engage in a roleplay that is dedicated solely to sexual activities, alone. I believe that there is more to a storyline than this.
canon, crossovers and au:
I can do strictly canon roleplays or an alternate universe roleplay. Alternate Universes can range from ‘what if’ situations, different settings and scenarios. If you have an idea let me know, or we can brainstorm ideas together; I also have a list of AU prompts so let me know if you’d like to take a look at it. I am also crossover friendly
location:
I use mediums such as Skype, Discord and Kik to talk ooc, but tend to roleplay through Google Docs, Email (preferred) or Tumblr.
ooc chit-chat:
I’d like to chat on the sidelines with my partners, as it allows the two of us to get to know each other; thus making things less awkward for the both of us. Plus, I like to make friends with my partners and would enjoy the extra person to converse with.
