Wandbehang mit Alpenveilchen, image of a silk and wool textile wall tapestry designed by Hermann Obrist, using the cyclamen to forge the motive. Reproduced in Pan, 1896, feb.-mars, page 327 [zyncography process, E. Albert & Co.].
Date: 1895

Often called Cyclamen or Whiplash in English, this is the wall hanging after which the distinctive "whiplash line" of art nouveau is supposedly named. He didn't call this wall hanging "whiplash" himself; Pan magazine described it that way. Other artists created works with much more distinctively art nouveau sinuous lines in the five years before 1895, but I guess with its wide readership, Pan's description of the motif stuck?
