A little continuation in regards to that DogDay carrying a guitar around headcanon because it kinda fits him to have that musician vibe(?

He´s like Spongebob or Steven Universe with their ukeleles- The Smiling Critters go on trips or adventures and Dogday just takes out his instrument out of nowhere and begins to play silly songs to lift up the mood xD

Thank you to everyone who submitted a suggestion! I actually had more people asking for various fandoms - unfortunately I struggled drawing some of those characters, but I do appreciate everyone's suggestions!

What the Smiling critters do when they're stressed out (headcanons)

Bubba - Stutters and goes "uhh" every few words, Biting/sucking his trunks (doesn't do this one in public very much), binge eating

Kickin - Yanking on his feathers (espiceally during molting), chewing on his fingers, making chirping noises like a baby chick (also does this when he's sad), gets very snappy at the others

Catnap - gripping whatevers close to him very tightly, hugging himself even if his claws come out (he's accidentally cut himself this way many times), tail wrapping around himself (legs, ankles, waist, etc)

Dogday - Tail between his legs, whines and shakes, he'll talk to his friends looking for a distraction for the stress, hides away from everyone

Hoppy - becomes very irritable more so than usual, tugs on her ears, get's very very testy with the others, hops up and down like a tantruming toddler

Crafty - Becomes very quiet or quits talking entirely, looks down at her feet and won't meet the others eyes, retreats to her skecthbook, has to fight herself in order no to cry

Picky - indulges herself with pb&j sandwhiches (this is also stress eating), stays in one place and will not move, starts rambling on and on about nothing, panting

Bobby - fiddles with her necklace, scratches her wrists, digs her nails into her hands, cleches her jaw really tight, pounds her hands on any surface she can find

Hoppy and kickin family!!!💚💛

Hoppy's parents, as you can see, are athletes and champions. Mom is the strongest rabbit boxer of all and her dad is a runner, the fastest hare Hoppy knows.

Kickin has a very well-endowed singer father and his mother is just a poor, insecure hen who does everything she can to make sure her chicks are well. He also has younger siblings but we'll see about that later uwu.

The Smiling Critters Headcanons

Here are some of my personal headcanons of The Smiling Critters, cartoon version. Why I did this? Because art block.

Warning though: CatNap x DogDay ship mention

All eight of these critters have the tendency to act like their animal species or do things that only their animal species are known to do. Examples below:

DogDay can bark, he just rarely does so. But he sometimes pants like a dog, especially after a long, vigorous exercise or play. And sometimes he does the play bow when he wants to play. He mostly play bows in front of CatNap.

CatNap loves boxes, grooms himself like a cat, and will play with cat toys and laser pointers. He will knead DogDay’s belly or anything soft. And he can vocalize like a cat. Even hiss, yowl, and chatter (aka when the cat goes “ekekekekekek.”). If he does not like you, expect to get scratched.

Bobby BearHug sometimes uses trees to scratch her back. She also can climb trees with no problem!

Bubba uses his trunk when taking a bath and he sometimes trumpets.

Hoppy tends to stomp when annoyed.

Kickin can crow like a rooster, since he’s a male chicken. He crows when he is excited though or as a victory cry. He rarely clucks, but he goes “BA-GAWK” when startled/scared.

Picky squeals like a pig when she gets scared. She rarely snorts and oinks, but she does it.

Due to being a mythical equine, CraftyCorn’s ears pretty much work like the ears of a horse. The ears show her mood. Pinned back means she’s angry, annoyed, or moody. When her ears are up and moving about, she’s listening to the environment around her. Since she’s a unicorn, sometimes Crafty points her horn when she feels threatened.

CraftyCorn is shy and often draws alone. She often hides her artwork immediately someone asks what she’s drawing. She will, however, become angry when someone purposely messes up all her hard work.

PickyPiggy avoids eating chicken and pork.

Hoppy and Kickin have a friendly rivalry, especially when they’re playing sports or doing parkour.

Bubba is the nerd of the group and loves to learn new things. So much so he becomes curious a lot and asks a lot of questions.

Bobby BearHug loves hugging people, but she always asks someone first if they want a hug.

Bobby is also the love expert and is very observant once she sees that someone has a crush on another someone.

All eight of the critters can breathe their own gas like CatNap, but their gas is their respective scent. CatNap can breathe out the lavender scent instead of the poppy gas, but only when he is calm. Bobby loves to use her rose gas/scent to blow kisses.

The Critters sometimes use others’ scent as a stress reliever and not just as a way to sleep.

The critters often times get nightmares of what happens to their BBI versions.

DogDay and CatNap are best friends, but CatNap has a crush on DogDay. DogDay likes him back, but both he and CatNap are idiots. They don’t know that they both like each other. They are always coming up with excuses why they think the other doesn’t return their feelings.

All 6 other critters are aware of this and tend to tease the two when the other isn’t present.

Have any of y’all seen Barbie: The 12 Dancing Princesses? Have you seen that part where the sisters tease Genevieve for her crush on the cobbler? Yeah, imagine the Critters teasing DogDay for his crush on CatNap like that.

Since the group is 4 boys, 4 girls, the groups often have their own nights where they can hang out and chat. Boys Night and Girls Night!

(Okay. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES THAT THERE IS NO OTHER COLORS ON TUMBLR FOR ME TO MATCH THE CHARACTERS?)

ALRIGHT. SMILING CRITTERS HEADCANONS TIME :3 ( + doodle. not ship art !!! )

Something something smiling critters headcanons stuff bc the ugly stupid creatures live in my brain

( Doodle is a little old, i just wanted to add a picture to this post teehee giggles )

I like to think about how Smiling Critters would be if it was an actual kids cartoon, debated animating a little thing myself but i have no time for it now grr

Anyway, Crafty Corn and Bubba Bubbaphant would be a good duo. I feel that Bubba really likes and appreciates art and related, so he likes seeing Craftycorn's drawings and ocasionally helps her with stuff like perspective and giving her tips to draw different stuff

And Craftycorn enjoys having someone that appreciates her work and helps her aswell, also think they both prefer calm activities that don't involve much physical effort. They're besties that like to talk while they read and draw together because i say so idc

Kickinchicken and Hoppy Hopscotch are the typical duo of "bet i'm better than you in this" "nuh uh"

They tease and like to mock eachother but genuinely really care for each other aswell. I feel like Kickinchicken really likes when Craftycorn draws him, he feels special for it, silly little guy

Catnap is mute / non-verbal (not deaf) , and he uses sign language to communicate.

He sleeps most of the day but still likes to participate in games and activities with his friends during daytime, then he's really active at night and likes to play around by himself (ALSO I THINK IT WOULD BE CUTE IF HE HAS LIKE. A MOUSE FRIEND HE PLAYS WITH AT NIGHT TOO)

And Bobby Bearhug likes to bake for all her friends. She usually gifts Picky Piggy sweets and food she cooks, and Picky Piggy gifts her silly crafts she makes herself in return.

I have more headcanons but sharing those for now. May draw some of these, i love them so much grgrr

Smiling Critters headcanons while I continue my C&C AU

This is for the 5 people who want to actually read the damn thing and anyone who likes the Smiling Critters

(Note: Might contain a bit of Shipping. This is about the Cartoon characters not the Toys)

🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪🟥🟧🟨🟩

If any of the critters have to go to the doctor whether it’s for a checkup or something you need to have like 8 plans in place for both Catnap and Dogday. You can make a life a bit easier on yourself if you schedule them together but they will still refuse regardless. Only Bubba has the knowledge to contain them.

Kickin has broken both arms and legs at least once and it’s always when he’s doing a stunt.

(Warning:Platonic Shipping): Catnap and Dogday have licked each other (Mainly cause it’s a way to show affection , and a way to bond for actual Cats and Dogs) on the forehead on a handful of occasions. Bobby and Bubba are the only ones who know what this means and are the only ones grinning while everyone looks at them like madmen.

Hoppy has the absolute worst schedule of the critters going to bed at 4 am on average and waking up at 8:30 am and somehow is a functional Critter daily. Catnap and Picky work together to give them a better sleep schedule.

No one in that friend group is Straight. I don’t make the rules.

Picky is the 2nd messiest eater of the group being beaten by Crafty who is just as messy with her food as she is with her craft supplies. Like if she has spaghetti she will have sauce just all over her no matter WHAT you do.

(Quick note for some HC Like the Above: Some of these are just for the funny and not to be taken seriously. Please don’t attack me)

Hide and seek champion of the Critters is Hoppy mainly cause they hide in places not even Kickin would think of.

Bubba and Catnap actually share the same house being a tree and a Treehouse on top respectively. Whenever Dogday visits Catnap a platform drops by Bubbas front door so he doesn’t have to cut through his house to get to Catnaps.

Bobby is the hugging type of friend. Catnap actively dosent like being hugged by anyone except Dogday. Bobby mostly respects this except in moments of joy where she just hugs whoever is closest and frequently it happens to be Catnap.

Everyone besides Picky and Kickin have monstrous sweet tooth’s to the point where if you locked them in a bakery overnight it will be cleared out by morning.

Catnap is nonverbal except around Dogday. If he’s talking to the audience he will speak but it’s like Garfield logic aka no mouth movement and only he will hear it.

Going back to Crafty being messy she once got stuck to a wall because of glue for 2 days. Everyone assumed she was just working on a project that weekend.

(Shipping warning) For the longest time everyone assumed Dogday and Catnap were just friends till Catnap just kissed Dogday on the cheek and everyone went NUTS

Edit cause I just came up with this one: On the night of the Storm a little bit before it hit Catnap are a weird mushroom and gained the ability to put people to sleep. Everyone wanted him to sing a lullaby but didn’t expect a gas attack. He fell asleep a few minutes after his friends.

This isn't art technically speaking but here's a Smiling Critters Relationship Chart that I wanted to try out after seeying a cool template by @valentinbelleyh505! The colors are a mess so I will try to explain it properly-

- DogDay: as the leader of the Smiling Critters, it's a must that he gets along with everyone! He has a closer relationship with Bobby and Catnap, the latter being his best friend. Though he also gets along pretty well with Bubba and Kickin' so they might gather up to be a somewhat chaotic yet charismatic trio at times.

- Bobby Bearhug: she loves everyone with no exceptions! The critter whom she gets along the most with is Hoppy and she is somewhat interested on Catnap. Not romantically, but she does care about him specially.

- CraftyCorn: despite her shy demeanor, Craftycorn manages to get along with everyone in the group, even though she and Kickin' might clash at times due to his attitude. She really admires Dogday as their leader and gets along with Catnap fairly well, given how the two of them struggle more when it comes to socializing but also enjoy their moments of peace and quiet which they spend together at times. As for her relationship with Bubba it is mostly admiration, but she also has a little crush to him which, of course, she wouldn't dare to confess herself.

- Hoppy Hopscotch: she is probably the most extroverted member out of the bunch along with Dogday, even through she has some dissgreements with her friends at times... Specially Kickin', but they have some sort of love-hate relationship. Though she is kind of oblivious when it comes to romantic feelings. However, that doesn't stop her from showing affection! As she will be there for Bobby as long as she needs, sharing a sister-like bond. And surprisingly, she gets along very well with Catnap, even if their energies and personalities are completely different. But sometimes she could use some calm and he could use some more energy and enthusiasm.

- Catnap: even though he is mostly an introverted soul who spends most of his time sleeping away, the feline doesn't fail when it comes to being in good terms with everyone. The girl whom he gets along with the most is CraftyCorn, given their similar personalities and their struggles. Even if she suggests a fashion or modeling session, Catnap will never mind to join around! He also respects Bubba greatly, seeying him as a wise and big-brother figure, his knowledge of the world will never fail to amuse him. And of course, Dogday is his very best friend, the one he can be the most open to as they understand and support each other no matter what.

- PickyPiggy: with her easygoing attitude, she has mostly good relationships with everyone! Even though her hunger can get the best out of her at times... She really admires CraftyCorn and her artistic abilities. (The neutral relationships are also based on the dynamics their Bigger Bodies versions will have, but I still have to design them so I will elaborate on her relationships later on).

- Kickin'Chickin: even if he might be too much at times, Kickin' is someone who easily gets everyone's aproval! The critters he gets along with the most are Dogday and Bubba, specially the latter as they sorta have a sibling dynamic. And even though he sometimes has a hard time understanding Catnap, they get along just fine. He has a huge crush on Hoppy, but he's too stubborn to admit it so he teases her instead and that leads to frequent arguments. Kind of like an Alvin & Brittany dynamic.

- Bubba Bubbaphant: he's pretty much like the big brother of the group, always willing to help everyone and provide the needed knowledge... Even though he can ramble at times- His closests relationships are with Kickin' and Craftycorn, and he has a secret crush on her that he doesn't speak about since he assumes that she likes Dogday instead. However, he doesn't hold any grudges against the dog for it and instead respects him dearly.

And another take with my OC LoolaLamb! (I will make a good picture and description for her I promise;;) even though canonically/in-game the only critters she would have interacted with properly would be Dogday and Catnap

BUT long story short-

- Dogday: even though she is not a part of the main Smiling Critters, Loola admires Dogday's personality and empathy, seeying him as a role model. She does have a little crush on him but she is afraid to mistake it with a simple affection at times. He does reciprocate her feelings but doesn't know how to grasp or classify such emotions to begin with.

- Bobby Bearhug: due to her loving and affectionate personality, LoolaLamb would feel great comfort around Bobby. She would definitely see her as someone she could trust.

- CraftyCorn: her and Loola would get along given their love for artistic representations. Sometimes they would sit down and write songs together.

- Hoppy Hopscotch: perhaps the energetic rabbit would be a little too much for the lamb, but she would admire her outgoing personality quite a lot.

- Catnap: their relationship is mostly neutral, though Catnap didn't like her much at first as he was afraid that she would replace him (let's just say there was an alternative universe in she didn't). But despite that Loola would be interested on meeting him further if given the chance.

- PickyPiggy: they wouldn't interact too much, but Picky is definitely fond of Loola! And perhaps would ask her to sing quite ofter, much to the lamb's dismay given their lack of confidence at times.

- Kickin'Chicken: the very first time they met and he knew that she could sing, he inmediately challenged her to a musical competition- She found it a little foward and intriguing at first, but in the end Loola ended up finding his attitude quite amusing, he makes her laugh.

- Bubba Bubbaphant: LoolaLamb would see Booba as some sort of authoritarian figure given his extensive amount of knowledge, but she would respect him a lot for that. As to him he does find interest in her musical abilities, but they wouldn't interact as much as the others.

Smiling critters head cannons yippee

Dogday: Really mild prankster, he's would like move bubba book mark one page back and start giggling when he opens the book. Most of his "pranks" go unnoticed.

Bobby Bearhug: Really good cook, Picky is breaking down her walls just to get to her cooking. Also really like sci-fi, something about those neon lights just calls to her.

Bubba Bubbaphant: Anime fan, like big weeb. Probably have all of one piece ten times over now. Will spontaneously combust if anyone finds out.

Craftycorn: Used to be really good friends with KickinChicken, they were inseparable when they we're kids. Nothing happened, they sorta drifted apart. They still friends but not like before. Tried dragon fruit absolutely hated it.

Picky Piggy: Second smartest in the group. Has encyclopedic knowledge on like one maybe two topics. Also really affectionate and cuddly. And good at dodge ball idk why.

KickinChicken: His cool guy personality started out as an act. He just been doing it so long that it just melted into his personality. Really nervous behind closed door.

Hoppy Hopscotch: This is the prankster of the group. Seran wrap on the toilet seat. Bucket of water on the door frame. Things of that nature. Had multiple intervention with dogday telling her to tone it down. It works a least for a little while but always comes back.

Catnap: nocturnal. When he's up he's surprisingly the most responsible of the group. At least when it comes to chores like cleaning and such. Super cuddly. And sometimes really petty.
