I'm not the first to mention this, but one bit that I thought was really clever in Steven Universe is the ways in which the show subtly justifies the cartoonism of the principle cast always wearing the same outfit for ease-of-animation purposes. The gems are a gimme in that they're all hardlight-projections, and even before that's solidified as a plot point they're otherworldly and superheroic enough that you don't really think to question it. But Steven canonically just owns hundreds and hundreds of those star shirts, which are leftover merchandise from his father's fizzled-out career as a rock star. Into which you can read a whole bunch of other stuff if you really want to, right? And I do want to. It's reflective of Greg's misplaced optimism that he got hundreds of those made in the first place, and it's a benign but visible example of how Steven's life is shaped by the knock-on effects of decisions his parents made before he was even alive. He's got his mother's superpowers and he's wearing his father's shirts.

sketches of greg and rose my beloveds! i like to think that at the end of the day, greg was the only person who could crack rose's facade of the "benevolent earth saviour", and truly empathaize with her

I haven't seen anyone post the new, official SU poster over here, so here it is! It was spotted in Vancouver at a talk Rebecca and Ian were doing!

I think its easy to see young Greg's decision to stay in Beach City as kind of irresponsible and impulsive, which I won't argue against, but upon rewatching "Story for Steven" after Future I realized there's more to it than that
I think... Greg doesn't ask Marty "what if I want to go back and be with her" because that's genuinely something he was planning on doing in that moment. After all, he was already on the road, ready to go to his next show. He asks that as a test. Marty is in the middle of insulting his emotions ("Noone cares about your feelings!"), insulting the music that is resulting from them too, and I'm willing to bet in that moment Greg is getting an unfortunately familiar sense of shame creeping in...
"You're going to the city, and you're going to play, and you're going to like it!"
This isn't how adults talk to one another, this is how a parent talks to a child.
Greg ends his tour because he refused to let another person into his life who would attempt to control him, to belittle his emotions, to insult his interests. Music was his escape from abuse, his reason to live in a horrible home situation, and he refuses to let it be sullied by another abusive figure. Rose may have been the reason to stay in Beach City specifically, but Marty and the abusive past he dredges up in Greg is his reason to not continue on his tour, despite it being his dream.
