I went to Brighton yesterday, and they very recently opened a Bandai gatcha store, and I've been itching to check it out. I planned to get a beetle and a mantis model.

Sadly they had sold out of the poseable mantis figures (waaaah. They did say they'll likely get a different set of mantis models in though), so I treated myself to two poseable beetles and I think I won the jack pot as I got a massive goliath beetle (Goliathus orientalis) and a Japanese rhino beetle. They look amazing.

The rhino beetle has holes for wings but didn't come with any so i might try and make some- STOP STEALING YOUR SIBLINGS WINGS.

Nooo, I promised to share those with @feral-deer! Don’t be greedy!

Any way, these guys are great. Delightfully poseable and great details. Adding them to the desk menagerie.

I don't know if this is info you're allowed to give us or not, but if you are, what information/guidelines did you get about the rod on Caleb's leg and on Cad's armor in the new designs? Could be what they are, could be just design requests, any insight would be lovely 👀

Yeah.

I think the rod is a rod of absorption?? Maybe??? It’s not a wand, it’s def a rod of something or other. The green lines of residuum are sort of aesthetically echoing the Volstrucker tats.

Cad’s armor is made from the enlarged carapace of a Goliathus Orientalis beetle, and lovely creatures they are, too. The wings are super gross compelling and weirdly wet looking??? sort of iridescent and bat-like in shape. I spent a lot of time looking at them, as you can probably tell.

Another fun Cad thing- His holy symbol of the Wildmother is made of herbal teas- camomile, mint, and cornflower.

“This beetle is one of the largest species of the genus Goliathus, with a body length of about 50–100 millimeters (2.0–3.9 in) in males, of about 50–65 millimeters (2.0–2.6 in) in females. The Goliath beetles (named after the biblical giant Goliath) are any of the five species in the genus Goliathus. Goliath beetles are among the largest insects on Earth, if measured in terms of size, bulk, and weight. They are members of subfamily Cetoniinae, within the family Scarabaeidae. Goliath beetles can be found in many of Africa's tropical forests, where they feed primarily on tree sap and fruit.”
