1) poor Appa :(

And 2) GIANT BEETLES!!!

I love that they’re basically just Japanese rhino beetles but extremely large and green. What I wouldn’t give to have a beetle this large…

Fun Fact: Japanese rhino beetles are sexually dimorphic, the males are larger and have a large horn, which are used to fight off other male in their competition for a chance to mate

I went to Brighton yesterday, and they very recently opened a Bandai gatcha store, and I've been itching to check it out. I planned to get a beetle and a mantis model.

Sadly they had sold out of the poseable mantis figures (waaaah. They did say they'll likely get a different set of mantis models in though), so I treated myself to two poseable beetles and I think I won the jack pot as I got a massive goliath beetle (Goliathus orientalis) and a Japanese rhino beetle. They look amazing.

The rhino beetle has holes for wings but didn't come with any so i might try and make some- STOP STEALING YOUR SIBLINGS WINGS.

Nooo, I promised to share those with @feral-deer! Don’t be greedy!

Any way, these guys are great. Delightfully poseable and great details. Adding them to the desk menagerie.

to my knowledge his isuka version of anti-depressant scale is the only time the beetle itself shows up. little thang. a few of his sprites show the symbol he has ....

(the risky lovers overclock box + uh. one of his isuka sprites. fuck if i remember what move its replicating) beyond that i dont think the beetle ever comes up and its saur sad. out of all the official art theres not even like anything of him w bugs or anything. as if he isnt an insect.

9 people i’d like to get to know better

Last song: Recently I've been listening to The Birthday a lot while working. Kaminari Today gives me powerful Sasaki vibes. (A couple other faves are Kusottare no Sekai and Sayonara Saishu Heiki)

Favourite colour: That whole mint green, sea green, sage green, moss green family

Currently watching: Delicious In Dungeon and Bravern! The Delicious In Dungeon anime adaptation is outstanding and really captures the feeling of the manga. Bravern is a very fun and unique mecha series (created by the guy who designed NJPW's IWGP World Heavyweight Championship belt) - if you want to watch it, I highly recommend not reading anything about it beforehand because the surprise twists and turns are a big part of the fun. Bravern just recently ended, so the whole series is available to watch.

Spicy/savoury/sweet/(sour)/(salty): I'll go with salty aspirationally, because I'm supposed to increase the salt in my diet. But I do have a sweet tooth, I do love umami flavors, and I do have a growing appreciation for spicy foods.

Relationship status: Very happily partnered

Obsessions: I managed to turn my fixation on Japanese pro wrestling into a fixation on learning Japanese, which has been very fun even though I don't have any particular aptitude for language learning.

I'm also obsessed with beetles, especially species in the Scarabaeidae and Tenebrionidae families (scarabs including stag and rhino beetles, and darkling beetles). I currently have three pet beetles - two blue death-feigning beetles and one smooth death-feigning beetle. Someday I want to raise a stag or rhino beetle from a grub to an adult, but I haven't attempted it yet.

I also love wooden tall ships, especially square-riggers.

BWUH. UMM TYSM OK I will rant only about my sonas for now!! (rambles under the cut!)

Biscuit (middle) is my main sona, so they basically represent me! However, they're also a kinsona of Parappa the rapper and a comfort oc, so a lot of how I draw them + what I draw them doing are things that either comfort me to look at or I like/would like to do irl :33! Their design takes a lot of inspo from Parappa for the formerly-mentioned kin reasoning. I also almost always draw it sleepy since that's just the sorta thing I like in character design! This is honestly part of why Gamzee from homestuck and Wally from welcome home are some of my fav characters lol! I'm a sucker for a sleepy little guy :]] Little fun-facts abt Biscuit is that he loves muffins, rlly likes raking + crunching fall leaves, and is often found chasing their tail before getting dizzy and taking a nap!

Zee (far right) is my secondary sona (and also the oldest one I still use!) They are a mischevious little punk, always playing pranks and just being an all-around stinker. I sorta use Zee to represent my more loud and childish aspects, especially related to my autism! So Zee only talks in all-caps (not quite yelling but just kinda loud all the time), always moving, likes super """cringe""" media like Minecraft and FNAF and Bluey! Unlike Biscuit who lives in a funny little cottage, Zee is a vagabond and never likes to live in one place for too long! Too many good foods to try and people to prank!!

Beet (flying above Zee) is a minor sona! It represents me, but doesn't have nearly as much thought behind it as Biscuit and Zee admittedly :'] It is a fluffy Japanese rhino beetle, so basically just if that type of beetle had fur like a cat! It also behaves like a cat as well, being much more animal(??) than my other guys! Beet loves fruit and crafting more than anything else! It is also mute, talking with all my other guys through ASL :]]! It is just a silly little guy who likes having fun!!

Last is Chef (bottom left), my pokesona! Chef is by far the newest guy out of the bunch, thus doesnt have as much thought behind them either sadly :'''] But!! What I can say about them is that they love stealing pokeballs from trainers for their collection! Their goal is to eventually get one of each kind so they can make a rainbow out of them all. Contrary to the name, Chef has no idea how to make a good meal and will usually just munch on malasadas and berries :]] They're just a funny guy with big silly ears yippee wahoo!!

That's everyone I still use as a sona!! Longtime followers might remember Metro, though as of rn, he is retired in favour of these four and I am currently looking to rehome him :]] Tysm for the question anon, this was rlly fun!!

Inktober 52 2024 - Week 2 - 'Slice'

I naturally had to do something with the beetles I got last week.

Kind of want to start writing a DC/Marvel mash up fanfic and put it online but I'm not sure about some of the fusions I've thought up, so I'm putting them on here so I can get some feedback.

Warren Pryce, a.k.a. The Night Spider. Pretty typical Spiderman/Batman fusion. Son of a pair of brilliant scientists who founded a tech company but were murdered by a business rival who wanted them to make super soldiers, and made their deaths look like a lab accident while Warren watched from a cabinet be was hiding in. The only person Warren ever told was his Uncle, who revealed that the day before their deaths, Warren's parents sent him a USB that said "Warren is the key," which led Warren and his uncle to discovering a secret labin the Pryce manor where they find out Warren's parents had, under duress, been working on a ways to make super soldiers, one way being a way to give human spider abilities, but they stopped because they knew that if they had the power to change the world, they had the responsibility to do so for good. Warren spent the next 20 years training his body and mind to do just that, to use the super soldier spider serum to save people, and one day bring justice to the man who killed his parents, if he ever found him.

Also adding fusions of other characters, and yes, realize some of these are fairly redundant, but what can I say, there are parallels

I'm not sure if I want to fuse Electro and Two Face, like half his face is scarred from electricity, or Electro and Harley Quinn, like she was electrocuted into insanity by The Gremlin Man, or fuse Harley with Black Cat, or I saw someone fuse Black Cat and Riddler and I thought that'd be pretty cool, call her Sphinx.

As for other heroes

Captain America + Wonder Woman = Achilles. Cursed for his hubris and attack on Troy, the Judges of the Underworld ordered Achilles to guard the ghost city of Troy, and to never again pick up a sword, only the Aegis. Then when Nazis showed up during ww2 looking for magic, Achilles was granted leave, arguing that the best way to protect Troy was to venture out into the modern world. The Winter Soldier and Falcon are now The Eidolon (who is secretly Achilles boyfriend Patroclus) and a man wielding the wings of Icarus.

Superman + Captain Marvel = ?

Namor + Aquaman = The Pacific Man. Rather than Atlantis, The Pacific Man rules over the city on the back of a giant sea turtle from various mythologies in the Pacific ocean, and instead of a trident, he wields the naginata from Japanese mythology that created Japan.

Black Panther + Hawkman and Woman = The Black Hawks. A pair of winged aliens crash land in the Amazon and using their alien tech and a metal called Vibranianth Steel, they form the city of gold, El Dorado, ruling over it as warrior king and queen, and when they die, they pass on their mantles and memories to worthy successors.

X Men + Green Lanterns = ? Green meteor crashes onto Earth imbueing certain people with powers, Prof X would be like the Guardians. This would also make Magneto Sinestro, and other mutants other lanterns, and the Sentinels like the Manhunters.

Fantastic 4 + Doom Patrol = ?

Dr. Strange + John Constantine = ?

Blue Beetle + Moon Knight = ? Found a piece of alien technology left by the aliens the Egyptians considered gods, this one specifically was built by Khepri, the God with the head of a beetle.

Flash + Hulk = ? Gamma radiation gave him super speed

Just the rest of them that I can't quite work into a uniquely themed group.

I loved the idea of the Demon homeworld having its own Guardian(s) just like Filgaia.

I think it's neat how Duras Drum is Dark and Stare Roe is Light, so they're the Japanese trope of rival beetles; Stag and Rhino.

I think it's really neat how Wind, Sky/Heaven, and The Stars all have their own guardians.

I love how the original Ge Ramtos appears to draw on some associations between Hummingbirds and death/the dead that are present in indigenous American cultures.

I love that WA2 has Glaive Le Gable, less as a formal Guardian, and more as a kind of super-spiritual Oversoul. (The 2nd game was a lot headier in general between this and the Encroaching Universe enemy.)

And I even really love the manga addressing this gap where there's been a Guardian of "Earth" in the rock and dirt sense, but not one for actual plantlife. (Which makes sense, since the plantlife of Filgaia is consistently in a state of dying.) But giving the last gasp of a dying ecosystem a face and a personality, and making it antagonistic and creepy and almost sinister --instead of dainty and maternal or pure and innocent or forgiving-- because it is willing to do anything to survive in the face of extinction is a really fun idea.
