Doris ‘Dorie’ Miller wearing his just after being presented with the Navy Cross by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, on board USS Enterprise at Pearl Harbor, 27 May 1942. Doris Miller (12 Oct 1919 – 24 Nov 1943) was a United States Navy cook third class who was first Black American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the highest decoration for valour presented by the US Navy, and the second highest in the United States after the Medal of Honor. Miller served aboard the battleship West Virginia, which was sunk by Japanese torpedo bombers during the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. During the attack, he helped several sailors who were wounded, and while manning an anti-aircraft machine gun for which he had no training, he shot down several Japanese planes. Miller's actions earned him the Navy Cross, and the resulting publicity for Miller in the Black press made him an iconic emblem of the fight for civil rights for Black Americans. In November 1943, Miller was killed while serving aboard the escort carrier Liscome Bay when it was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the Battle of Makin in the Gilbert Islands. Margaret was born in Detroit as the daughter of Richard Whiting, writer of hits such as 'Hooray for Hollywood' and 'Ain't We Got Fun' Her sister Barbara was an accomplished actress. Margret was discovered by singer-lyricist Johnny Mercer. In 1942 Mercer co-founded Capitol Records and signed Margaret to this label, Moonlight in Vermont is one of the songs she recorded for this label. It's an unusual song because the lyrics don't rhyme.
✨1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die Series ✨ Album: The “Chirping” Crickets Artist: Buddy Holly & The Crickets Genre: #Rock #RocknRoll #Rockabilly ℹ️About The Album : The "Chirping" Crickets is the debut album from the American rock and roll band the Crickets, led by Buddy Holly. It was the group's only album released during Holly's lifetime. 💭Thoughts : I’ve heard the name Buddy Holly in so many popular culture references that even though the album is very new to me the name does ring a bell and for good reason. The music feels like so many songs I’ve heard in the past and listening to the album you have that faint feeling that Buddy Holly and The Crickets had something to do the music that came after them. 🍸Goes Best With : Let’s make ourselves a Golden Oldie, pour 3/4 ounce dark rum, 1/2 ounce Crème de Banana and 4 ounces of Pineapple Juice; pour them into a highball glass with ice in it, in the order given. Stir. Enjoy. Favourite Tracks: 🔥Oh Boy, 🔥You’ve Got Love, 🔥That’ll Be The Day, 🔥An Empty Cup (And a Broken Date), 🔥Maybe Baby, 🔥Send Me Some Lovin’, Featured Tracks: ✨Maybe Baby, ✨Last Night, #BuddyHolly #TheCrickets #Rum #CremeDeBanana #PineappleJuice #HighBallGlass #GoldenOldie #Music #MusicReview #KANSASreviews #Musik_Co_ #TasteYourMusic #PsyNok #Psyn0k #FavouriteTracks #1001AlbumsToHearBeforeYouDie https://www.instagram.com/p/CpnYecUPAb1/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Members of the Freikorps try to intimidate members of the local population during the Kapp Putsch in Berlin, Germany 1920. The Kapp Putsch was a failed attempt to overthrow the government of the Weimar Republic in Germany in 1920. The putsch was led by Wolfgang Kapp, a right-wing journalist and politician, and General Walther von Lüttwitz (it is sometimes known as the Kapp-Lüttwitz Putsch.) It was supported by various conservative and nationalist groups. The Kapp Putsch occurred during a time of political and economic instability in Germany, following World War I. After the Weimar government called a general strike in response, the putsch crumbled on 17th March, four days after it started as the plotters realised they were unable to effectively run the country. #history #militaryhistory #military #colourised #colorized #colourisedhistory #colorizedhistory #color #colour #colorizedhistoricalphotos #colorization #colourisation #retro #goodolddays #classic #goldenoldies #colorizedphoto #colourisedphoto #germany #weimar #weimarrepublic #putsch #coup #rebellion #freikorps https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm-BPf3KQ0f/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
