HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Polly Bergen, Ingmar Bergman, my sister Jennie, Bebe Buell, Bob Casale, John A. Chapman, Gerald Ford, Lee Friedlander, Rosie Grier, Maulana Karenga, Angélique Kidjo, Gustav Klimt, Jamie Johnson, Paul McCartney’s 1986 “Press” single, Tommy Mottola, Peta Murgatroyd, singer-songwriter Bret Putnam, Adam Quinn, Phil Reeder, Del Reeves, Dan Reynolds (Imagine Dragons), Dale Robertson, Jerry Rubin, Dirty Dave Rudabaugh, Matthew Seligman, Stan Shaw, Harry Dean Stanton, Rubberlegs Williams, and the social activist and iconic figure in American folk music, Woody Guthrie. The legendary singer-songwriter gave us The Dust Bowl Ballads and “This Land is Your Land.” He was a major influence on Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Sixto Rodriguez, Pete Seeger, and many others. He also fathered a musical family with son Arlo and grandchildren Gabe and Nora.
Woody gave us the song, “This Land is Your Land”—a land for all people. He taught people how to view America and social issues through the lens of a song, saying, "I hate a song that makes you think that you are not any good. I hate a song that makes you think that you are just born to lose. Bound to lose. No good to nobody. No good for nothing. Because you are too old or too young or too fat or too slim or too ugly or too this or too that."
Here’s my take of Woody’s autobiographical song “Oklahoma Hills,” co-written with his cousin Jack Guthrie (a cowboy star who went #1 with this in 1945). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aYTpJETVcQ Meanwhile, HB Woody, and thank you for creating “the machine that kills fascists.” .

“Whenever I got accosted on the street by a crazy maniac, the best thing to do was walk away. I always felt threatened. We had to leave by the back door at a lot of places”: Devo’s battle for survival
(via LouderSound) by Paul Lester The concept behind Devo was created during a single shocking event in 1970. From their earliest moments they had a point to make – but they also had a specific way of wanting to make it, and it wasn’t an easy journey. In 2015, Gerald V Casale looked back on the band’s career with Prog. “God, those were exciting times,” says Gerald V Casale, vocalist, bassist,…

Gerald V. Casale, a pioneering figure in the New Wave scene and a founding member of DEVO, is back in the spotlight with his groundbreaking "4-Dimensional" music video for "Lounge: Pay U Back." This innovative project accompanies the reissue of his The Invisible Man EP, now available for purchase directly from GeraldVCasale.com. Casale, renowned for his creative contributions to music videos for bands like DEVO, Foo Fighters, and Soundgarden, pushes the boundaries once again. The "Lounge: Pay U Back" video wasn't filmed in the traditional sense. https://youtu.be/VURF6uFn2nA?feature=shared Collaborating with 4D Fun Studios, Casale used the cutting-edge technology of 4Dviews' volumetric capture system, which employs 32 digital scanning cameras to transform reality into a captivating 360° virtual CG experience. This technique is a leap forward in music video production, offering viewers an immersive 4-dimensional journey. The track itself is a 'Lounge' style reinterpretation of Casale’s original song, “I’m Gonna Pay U Back.” This version marks his first collaboration with Josh Freese, the new drummer for Foo Fighters, and features Steve Bartek, the lead guitarist from OINGO BOINGO. In this virtual landscape, all three artists are represented as digital avatars, adding an extra layer of intrigue to this already unique project. Initially released as an exclusive for Record Store Day and quickly sold out, The Invisible Man EP is now available for the first time in a stunning 12-inch 'invisible' vinyl format, complete with autograph options at GeraldVCasale.com. Fans can also purchase the EP on CD and cassette, marking Casale’s first cassette release in 30 years. As an added bonus, for a limited time, orders will include an exclusive 10 sticker set featuring a Glow-in-the-Dark replica of the front cover artwork by Tomo77. Gerald Casale has been a trailblazer since his early days with DEVO, directing iconic videos like “Whip It,” “Satisfaction,” and “Beautiful World.” Now, at 75, he continues to challenge and expand the realms of audio-visual entertainment. The reissued EP includes six tracks, offering various renditions of "The Invisible Man" and "I’m Gonna Pay U Back," including instrumental and 'E-Z Listening' versions, allowing fans to experience the music in multiple styles. Experience the fusion of music and technology with Gerald V. Casale's latest endeavor. It's not just a music video; it's a journey into a new dimension of art and sound.
