For gender selectable characters, I go with whichever gender's name I think sounds prettier lol. Or, if there's an option to randomize during the first playthrough, whichever assignment I get is what I tend to think of as "canon" for me. Also, if there's character portraits or face claims, I might factor those into the decision. If none of the above apply, I assign one randomly and alternate through the characters to get as even a ratio as possible.

Fox — Male for sure; I don't know why, but reading through the asks on them reminded me of Westley from The Princess Bride Rabbit — Flips evenly between male and female, since both have their appeal with the subversion of historical gender roles if male and a slow-burn, pining romance if female Butterfly — Tend to think of them more as a gender non-conforming male; think Howl from Howl's Moving Castle or Fujimoto from Ponyo. I feel like this one could go either way though, because I also associate butterflies with Yuuko from xxxHolic The Uninvited Guest — Still convinced this one is an Eldritch horror of some sort, remains unassigned

Butterfly is definitely gender-nonconforming, no matter female or male. I've been having a hard time pinning them down lately. Genderfuck? Demigender? Androgyne? Can someone please help me find the right term for them, because I am lost. Selfie dump for nonbinary pride day~ I always take a lot of selfies but never get around to actually posting them, so now you get a bunch at once :D

I really love the nonbinary presentation terms and especially the term fox- since I realised that I’m genderfluid and started trying to find clothes I’m actually comfortable in, I’ve struggled quite a bit with how to label my style- calling myself either masculine or feminine made me dysphoric, and while androgynous felt much better, it also didn’t feel quite accurate. I always felt that if I didn’t try very hard to be 100% neither masc or fem (or exactly the same amount of masc and fem) I would not be androgynous enough to actually call myself androgynous. Especially because my presentation always varied a lot, going from flannel shirts and jeans to floral skirts and dresses. So the fact that fox presentation explicitly includes a fluid presentation makes me really happy! And the description used by @nonbinary-culture - “A non-binary presentation which may respond or relate to androgyny, genderqueerness, or fluidity as interpreted and/or queered by an enby, or; a presentation concerned with ideas of enby rebellion, enby genderfucking, enby transformation; or, an aesthetic unnameable but belonging somewhere here“ feels exactly like what I’m going for, no matter what exactly I am wearing on any given day!
