I'm not a sewing blog, I'm supposed to be a writing blog... but my writing brain has fucked off to who knows where. Seriously, my ability to plot has not been great for the last little while (Probably because of COVID). Anyway, here's today's video, if you're into watching me draft stuff. Clothes, I mean.
Sewing, writing and acting are all related in my brain, though. When I'm not sewing, I'm writing romance novels about sewing. When I'm not writing or sewing I'm acting and attempting to take costumes I like and recreate them at home. It's a whole thing. You gotta surf the creative waves.

This week's reading is again picking up on themes from the preceding weeks. Temperance is the alchemical transformation and fusion of disparate elements, the Princess (or Page) of Cups brings inspiration and novelty, and Strength gives us confidence and strength of will. I feel like this an auspicious reading for the beginning of Pride Month. As queers, we have a unique ability, because of our (often forced) alienation from mainstream society, to stand between worlds. We must perform an alchemical act of self-creation if we are to survive. We need to indulge our uniqueness and our idiosyncrasies in order to thrive. Our strength come from within, and then we are able to bring ourselves to community, to find strength and power and joy in others and give of ourselves as an act of love and perseverance.
Anyway! I also wanted to share my two favorite outfits this week. I love that patterned t-shirt from Vapor95. I was consciously pulling the colors of it with the yellow belt, the pink socks, and the blue and red in the shoes. You can't really see the little blue studs in my ears, but they were also important. I've been referring to this as my DadWave aesthetic. And then of course we have summer goth. Still some sparkle with the silver holo sandals from adidas.
And finally, a painting that I finally finished last night. It's currently drying down its last coat of varnish so better photos will be forthcoming.

A non-binary person transitioning in a non-binary way is not saying saying anything about binary transition.
Non-binary people are not saying that trans men are "fake men" or "lesser men" by transitioning.
Non-binary people are not saying that trans women are "fake women" or "lesser women" by transitioning.
Non-binary people are not saying that transitioning is "non-binary exclusive" by transitioning.
Non-binary people are not appropriating from binary trans people by transitioning.
Non-binary people are not fetishising binary trans people by transitioning.
Non-binary people are not making a mockery of binary trans people by transitioning.
Non-binary people are not being transphobic by transitioning.
Non-binary transition making you dysphoric or uncomfortable is a you problem. It is not a problem with non-binary transition.
And because it bears repeating: non-binary transition is not exclusive to midbinary people. Abinary people can also transition, and doing so does not inherently make them transmasc or transfem.

Day 64: Pounded In The Butt By My Irrational Bigoted Fear Of Humans Who Were Born As Unicorns Using A Human Restroom
While I had conflicting feelings on "Angry Man Pounded By The Fear Of His Latent Gayness Over A Dinosaur Transitioning Into A Unicorn" in light of how the conversation on trans rights and visibility has evolved, I feel like this tingler, published only 11 months later, holds up incredibly well. It tackles gender in a similar way to robot fiction, in the way that the protagonist feels insecurity over his humanity when someone he would not traditionally recognize as a human is able to inhabit human spaces.
One aspect that I appreciate a lot is that the story makes it very clear that the character that the protagonist initially directs his species transphobia towards does not pass as a human at all; the bigoted protagonist and the waitress who is dismissive of his bigotry both refer to the character as a unicorn based on appearance. A major point in this tingler is that the man deserves dignity whether or not he "looks" like he should be in a human space. A lot of transphobes love to make arguments that operate in this heightened reality. It's not hard to imagine one saying, "what, should we accept it if someone identifies as a unicorn?" I mean, the furry panic is basically that, using some on-its-face absurd otherkin caricature as a proxy for trans people. This tingler meets them in their invented space where they think their argument is the most ironclad and says, yes, that would be fine actually, even if we did all live in your thought experiment and even took it a step further by introducing other sapient species with clear physical differences. People of different species peeing in the same room is not going to break the fabric of society.
(Side note not entirely related, people who care about such things are also just.... really bad at telling who "belongs", which is addressed in the story somewhat but I just like to mention whenever I have the chance that it includes false positives on their Wrong Sex Detector too. I use the bathroom that corresponds to my birth certificate and I've been stared at, yelled at, one time someone just watched me piss?? So much for bathrooms being a harrassment free space.)
I also love that nothing sexual takes place in the bathroom. The protagonist recovering from his bigotry fucks a sentient restroom sign right in the middle of the diner. Absolute madman, I can't help but respect it.

I love when a person is so trans you can't really tell exactly how they might be trans - all you know is that they are trans-something
