What the Ai in Ai'Kinn means?
Hi Anon,
I'm assuming this is related to my post comparing Pete dropping Khun when he's addressing Vegas in Ep 14 to Porsche using Ai' when he's addressing Kinn in Ep 9. Full disclosure, my knowledge of Thai is extremely limited and mostly confined to what I've learned from Perth Nakhun (Ken in KP) on his Youtube channel, plus a couple of websites with advice for travelers. That being said:
The Ai' particle before someone's name is a type of address (like P') that's very informal and only used between very close friends, otherwise it's considered rude, derogatory, even confrontational. Like, there's a difference between when you call your BFF a shithead while you're out drinking together and when you call your boss a shithead at the office. Ai' doesn't mean "shithead," but that's the level of difference you're looking at when you use it with close friends vs. anyone else, from what I understand. The thing is, Porsche also constantly uses the very informal pronouns guu (I) and meung (you), which are also incredibly disrespectful and offensive unless, again, you're speaking to a very close friend. Like, potentially fistfight levels of disrespectful. (Pete, by contrast, clearly refers to himself as pom for "I" in the Ep 14 scene when he's speaking to Korn shortly after he noticeably does NOT use khun to address Vegas - "pom" is formal, respectful, polite and a little bit old-fashioned, which means it only points up his earlier lack of "khun." I found it interesting that Chay also uses "pom" for "I" with Kim, while using "phi" for "you" - at least during their argument at the bar - so there's a definite contrast the show sets up between brothers, using language.)
Porsche absolutely shouldn't be speaking to his boss in this way - he really shouldn't be speaking to anyone we see on the show other than Jom or Tem this way. The fact that he calls Kinn Ai'Kinn is a sign of either extreme rudeness or extreme intimacy - those are the only two choices - and while no one would be surprised at Porsche being extremely rude, given actual precedent, the tone in which he says "Ai'Kinn" is clearly NOT being rude, and Kinn noticeably doesn't take any offense from it. That Porsche does this in front of Big and Ken tells them ... pretty much everything about Kinn's and Porsche's relationship there is to know.

!Hello! I'm Brazilian, I watch a Brazilian rap anime (Gon x Pitou), I'll love your comment.
I know this is very intrusive, but I wanted to talk to you about more HXH, I love this anime, but it's really hard to find people who like this anime (in Brazil).
!!!Sorry for my english!!! 🙏😓😓💦
Intrusive? No, this is awesome! I'm so happy that my little Internet trail over Brazilian anime geek music has lead you to me. Thank you for reaching out! Your Alluka profile picture is adorable 😊 sending a message your way.
That Gon x Pitou track was sooo good, combining the forces of Mistery and M4rkim. I'm going to recommend it to other English speakers right now. My nerdcore + geek music recs have been a long time coming, so I might as well start them off with a bang!
A tip for my fellow clueless gringos/gringas: go into caption settings on YouTube and auto-translate! They can take a while to load. If you're impatient, go down in the comments and a user 'genesis' has transcribed the lyrics. Translate from there and follow along ^^
youtube
Medonho e sombrio / O ódio consumiu / Uma tormenta em um calmo mar / Ira de um homem gentil!
These lines stuck with me after hearing "Jan Ken Guu" by Kaitou. It's probably a coincidence, but seeing the title of this Pitou and Gon track, Homem Gentil, made me think it was inspired by Kaitou's.
As a bigbig Gon fan, these lines and this title resonate with me so strongly. He's a character often ignored, hated or interpreted in a way that doesn't sit right with me. I sympathise a lot with the little dude, and I find his mindset/morality interesting to analyse. To hear some guys from across the waters interpret my favourite character similarly to me is a nice feeling, even if I understand why Gon is controversial.
M4rkim did the character justice. I knew of M4rkim from his Griffith (Berserk) track and of course, his prior take on our boy Gon. Been a while since he did Caçador and I see the development. Mistery was more new to me, as I had only heard her Pitou track. That was a serious banger. Together? They killed it. This was such a good song.
If my memory hasn't gone bad, I've heard of tracks like this collaboration, Kaitou's "Jan Ken Guu" and Mistery's "Marionette" being called 'movement' type songs. I'm not sure what that means, but they have a shared special something that's interesting to see.
On the series, it's a shame HxH isn't too popular in Brazil. I see the 1999 anime getting a pt-br dub and all the amazing Hunter geek music Gabriza, Tauz, Enygma, Chrono, Kaitou, Basara, D.Y.A, Shiny etc. put out and I assumed it was super loved!
I don't know just how popular it is in England / rest of the UK (where I live) or the West specifically though. It is very highly rated on the website My Anime List, and named a lot when people talk about the best shonen, but One Piece, Naruto, FMAB, MHA and newer generation anime get talked about more I think. Which is a shame :(
Anyway, am so happy you reached out to me. I'm a huge fan of HxH and I love making new friends. A newbie with Brazilian geek music, and only got into it when I found Enygma's Hisoka track near release. Still, it's really cool!
It sucks to be on your own when you're super passionate about something, so I'd be happy to be someone you can share your fangirling with :D
and no worries about the english! understood you, and I think it's pretty awesome for you to reach out in a foreign language (because it can be real intimidating). if you can bear with my shoddy portugese and me using awkward translation tools, I don't mind switching languages to give you a break 💜

The Grand Escape of the Black Cat, Kuro Chapter 7
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Takamizawa Arisa: Kuro!?
When we peered under the sofa, Kuro was there, yawning.
Shibasaki Aizou: In the end, you were here all along...?
They woke up from our boisterousness so we grabbed their leg and slowly dragged them out of the sofa.
Takamizawa Arisa: Geezー! We were so worried...!
Shibasaki Aizou: We were seriously freaked out...
Arisa-chan softly stroke Kuro. Beside her, Aizou had an expression of relief.
Shibasaki Ken: ...I’m glad you’re fine.
The puzzled look of Kuro and the relaxed expressions of Arisa-chan and Aizou...
Seeing the contrast made me burst into a smile.
Takamizawa Arisa: Nevertheless... Geez, the Shibasaki family have siblings who equally get so flustered they lose their heads.
Takamizawa Arisa: Something about “it’s hard to see what’s under your nose”. Of course, it’s better to have found them.
Shibasaki Ken: Uuh... I have to agree with that.
Shibasaki Aizou: From next time onward, we would also have to check, not only the bottom of the sofa, but also the cracks and gaps of the furniture, I guess.
Takamizawa Arisa: Fufu, but I’m glad nothing happened to them. It’s been a while since I was able to meet Kuro.
Seeing Arisa-chan’s smile, our feelings of guilt fadedー
The next dayー
Tumblr media
Shibasaki Aizou: I’m back.
Shibasaki Ken: Welcome ho-... Why’re you wearing your uniform even though it’s Saturday?
Shibasaki Aizou: I have supplementary lessons for the ones I missed from work.
Shibasaki Ken: Ahー I guess.
Shibasaki Aizou: Anyway, where’s Kuro? In your room?
Shibasaki Ken: I thought they were but... Kuroー?
As I said that, I jingled Kuro’s favourite cat toy.
Shibasaki Ken: Oh- They’re coming.
Tumblr media
Shibasaki Ken: There you go, let’s playー Kuro!
Shibasaki Aizou: Kuro, here, I have this... Try it.
Shibasaki Ken: What’s that? Don’t feed Kuro anything weird.
Shibasaki Aizou: It’s not weird!
Shibasaki Aizou: It’s a cat treat... It’s a new one too.
Kuro checked the treat’s smell multiple times before timidly licking it.
After one lick, they’ve realised it was safe and started energetically lapping at it.
Shibasaki Aizou: Ouhー So it’s good!
Shibasaki Ken: Jeez, this cat. Even though you made all of us thoroughly worried, you’re still so easygoing.
Shibasaki Aizou: Well, that’s true but I don’t think... it was bad.
Shibasaki Ken: ...You’re right. I, well... It’s been a long time since I ran so much.
Tumblr media
Shibasaki Aizou: It’s not a habit for you to exercise, right? In that case, you should probably join a club or somethin...!?
In the middle of his talking, a “Guu” sound came from Aizou’s stomach.
Tumblr media
Shibasaki Ken: Hahaha, you’re starving too!
Shibasaki Ken: I’m hungry too so it’s nice timing. I’ll make pasta.
Shibasaki Aizou: ...Carbonara. I want a large serving.
Shibasaki Ken: Rogerー. I’ll get to it.
Tumblr media
Shibasaki Aizou: ...Thanks for the meal.
Aizou and I put our hands together before we started eating.
Shibasaki Ken: (How long has it been since we were eating the same food together at the table like this...)
Shibasaki Ken: (Honestly, it’s still a little awkward but I wonder if a time will come when we will be able to talk like how we did last time..?)
I know that as a older brother, as myself, I have to compromise.
Shibasaki Ken: How’s the food?
Shibasaki Aizou: Hm... Good.
Shibasaki Ken: ...I see. Then, I’ll make it again.
Shibasaki Aizou: Aah, please.
He answered candidly and continued to eat the carbonara.
Shibasaki Ken: (It’s fine. This is enough for today.)
I felt like I got to know a bit more about my little brother and reflected on how happy I was.

It already feels like a lifetime ago since Jose Mourinho was in charge at Chelsea, yet 10 of the current squad played under the Portuguese in his ill-fated second spell. He left behind a group of players who had grown weary of their manager’s innate pragmatism and preference for caution over creativity, but are now playing sparkling, entertaining football under Maurizio Sarri. The three years since Mourinho left have rather summed up the volatile nature of Roman Abramovich’s reign. Ship steadier Guus Hiddink was, after an extensive search, replaced by Antonio Conte, a serial winner from his time in Italy. He romped to the Premier League title in his first season, but performances and results fell away considerably in a difficult second year. Abramovich has always wanted entertaining football – Sarri is finally delivering it (Picture: Getty)As with Mourinho before him, Conte’s style presented a trade-off between substance and style; results and performances. The Italian required his players to suffer, on the pitch and in training, while his tactical setups became increasingly negative – peaking against Manchester City, when they had just 29% of the ball. Had he not been sacked, a number of the squad have admitted they would have looked to leave. So Chelsea, as they often have done, pulled the trigger and – in another recurring theme – decided to go from one extreme to another when looking for a replacement. Conte’s pragmatic, direct approach was ditched in favour of a manager whose slick, free-flowing football is so unique it even has its own nickname: Sarri-ball, or Sarrismo back in his homeland. LONG BALLS PER GAME | SELECTED PREMIER LEAGUE TEAMS 2018/19 1st = Burnley809th = Manchester United6419th = Chelsea4820th = Manchester City45Share Despite being deprived of a full pre-season due to a long and protracted pay-off dispute with Napoli, and with most of his squad at the World Cup, Sarri has nevertheless immediately imprinted his philosophy and ideas on Chelsea’s squad. That has undoubtedly been helped by the £50m signing of Jorginho, the most important deal any club made over the summer, who was the heartbeat of Sarri’s team for three years in Naples. There is an interesting parallel between Sarri bringing his cerebral pass master to west London, and Mourinho signing his own lieutenant, Nemanja Matic, for Manchester United. Both players are in the image of their manager, one a creator and the other a destroyer, and sum up their respective approaches. The signings of Jorginho and Matic sum up Sarri and Mourinho’s differing styles (Picture: Getty)Jorginho has quickly asserted himself as the most prolific passer in the Premier League, averaging 106 per game. But this isn’t passing for passing’s sake. Sarri describes his style as ‘ball possession at a very high speed’, and Jorginho is the quick-thinking, fast-passing glue holding everything together. The greatest testament to Sarri’s work is how close they are to replicating Manchester City’s dominance already. Second most possession, second best goal difference, and second in the table. Chelsea play far higher now, with the entire outfield in the opposition’s half for large spells, and they press relentlessly when they lose the ball. Every player has been unshackled, and it was rather fitting that N’Golo Kante scored the first goal of Sarri’s reign, given that he is now playing a more dynamic, attacking role rather than just being used as a pure defensive midfielder under Conte. Mourinho was more concerned with getting Hazard to track back than score goals (Picture: Getty)Eden Hazard, likewise, embodies the differing approaches taken by Sarri and both Conte and Mourinho. Hazard was often used as a false nine by the Italian, reduced to a mere counter-attacking threat, while Mourinho regularly slated his winger’s lack of work rate and defensive awareness. They were concerned by the qualities Hazard lacked, rather than trying to make the most of the talents he possesses. Sarri has challenged him to be more ruthless and decisive, and in turn given him the freedom to help meet those demands. MORE: TV Soap star appears to confirm he's heading to I'm A CelebHow Sarri has turned Chelsea into the anti-Mourinho team Abramovich has always cravedCorrie romance revealed for Ken and Claudia? His goal against Liverpool summed up the shift in mindset, both from Hazard and the team as a whole. A revitalised David Luiz ignored Liverpool’s press and fizzed a pass into Hazard, who laid it off before spinning in behind. Matteo Kovacic and Jorginho played a cute one-two – the sort of triangle Chelsea’s players make countless times in a match now – before releasing Hazard, who finished expertly. It is fast, precise, devastating football to go with the overwhelming control Chelsea are already exerting. It is the most enjoyable football the Blues have played in a long time, and when it really clicks – as against Liverpool – even rival fans can appreciate it, or rival managers as was the case with Jurgen Klopp. Mourinho is enduring a difficult third season with Man Utd, seven points adrift of Chelsea (Getty)It is also the polar opposite of the football played under Conte and Mourinho, finally delivering the thrills Abramovich has wanted for so long. He thought Luiz Felipe Scolari could bring a samba beat to Stamford Bridge, but their form evaporated. Carlo Ancelotti turned Chelsea into a fearsome attacking outfit, but they lacked balance and solidity. Sarri is combining exhilarating football with control, strangling opponents and depriving them of chances as well as creating a host of their own. Saturday’s clash with United, then, sees Chelsea’s past and present go head-to-head. The fast and fun football of Sarri against the slow and reactive tactics of Mourinho. But, equally, the match pits one coach who has never won a trophy in his entire career against the manager who brought three Premier League titles to the Bridge. It promises to be a captivating contest, and if anyone can mastermind a way to stop the Blues’ scintillating side from purring again, it is arch-spoiler Mourinho – as everyone at Chelsea knows only too well.
