Hello! I love your blog bc it helps me a lot with writing and crafting. Thank you so much for making it!
Are there any patterns that deal with poison? Either in the pattern or in the dyeing process?
Even if there's not I'm glad you and this blog exist 💗
(anon continues) Poison in the dyeing process, like when green dresses were dyed with copper arsenite and it was extremely deadly.
Or a pattern of someone being poisoned, like a historical/folktale.
_______________________________________
Thank you for your kind words <3 I tried to keep things organized but the subject is huge so my of the top of my head answer is going in many directions. I hope you'll still find what you need :3
I'll briefly cover here dyes and (pigments), poison motifs, real life and supernatural poisonings. Buckle up we've got a long post ahead!
____ ABOUT DYE
Tbh I had to think for a moment because I don't recall major "poison" stories linked to dyes in Japan, be it fictionous or real (yet that doesn't mean none ever happened, especially considering Japan's history of industrial poisonings...).
Most gruesome details in the fabric industries I know of are about the horrific life & work conditions of female laborers in spinning mill manufactures (as in many countries, Japan industrialization process was ghastly...).
If potters and dyers had excellent practical knowledge, chemistry as a science officially started kind of late in Japan as it was not a local interest, and as rangaku (study of Western knowledge) often favored other subjects like medicine or warfare.
So, until the introduction of aniline dyes (not textile related, but this article about the use of synthetic dyes in ukiyoe printing is super interesting), Japanese worked with "natural" dyes, like ai (indigo) which was the most used during Edo period.
As with any ingredient, being natural doesn't equal safety. Some mixtures could be quite potent/foul, and process could be dangerous. Plants and minerals base ingredients could be toxic (cinnabar and orpiments were then used as paint pigments, and lead could be found in make up), as were mordants used to set colors.
If you want to easily overview which ingredients were used to create colors, I recommand browsing [Irocore] which presents colors with explanation in English in their database (pick a color then scroll down).
Not related to poison, but ai (indigo) is traditionally prepared in aigame/enormous floor set jars I find utterly terrifying:
Tumblr media
I don't know if this tidbit can help you, but some dyes and mordants actually damage the fabric overtime, leaving them brittle (silk desintegrates after a while which is a huge issue in textile conservation).
____ POISON MOTIFS
Concerning "poison" themed patterns, none would be actually used traditionally on a kimono or an obi beside novelty items ^^;
For example, many plants can be toxic, but I don't see them set as pattern for this property - they'd rather refer to a poem, be a symbol of the passing of seasons etc. Fuji (wisteria) can be quite harmful, yet it's a beloved traditional motif in Japan.
You have much more chances to find pattern with kujaku (peacock) which are thought to be impervious to poison in Buddhism, than say venomous mukade (centipede) or the horrific ômukade (a youkai I covered in a folktale).
Snakes like the habu and mamushi are dangerous, but if used as pattern snakes are most often auspicious and linked to rain dragons or goddess Benzaiten.
If you squint hard, toxic fugu could count as poison pattern, but such a seasonal delicacy as a motif would mostly underline wealth (as those fishes are pretty expensive as they are prepared by specialized chefs), a kind of carpe diem spirit, or just a fun pattern because fugu balloon shape is cute ;)
Tumblr media
____ POISON MURDERS
Poisoning was certainly a thing is Japan since ancient times (see kodoku sorcery). Poisons were for example used in some fishing techniques.
I am pretty sure some kuge and buke were disposed of this way - even thought poison was seen as a coward weapon (hence why its supposed to be only used by shinobi/ninja - even if this "fact" is opened to a lot of discussions!).
During Edo period, such murders made up the news and penny dreadful-like illustrated books favored by city dwellers in need of a fright. But those stories didn't pass to posterity beside cheap ukiyoe plates, and were never as popular as some shinjû (double suicides) or ghost revenges like poor poisoned and murdered Oiwa's:
Tumblr media
____ SUPERNATURAL POISONINGS
If your poison is both physical and metaphorical illbeing, mushi could be your guys ^^ This term actually covers everything small and crawling, from real worms and insects, to anything inside one's body causing distress - be it a parasite, an unknown illness, an overboard emotion, a curse etc. If you've read/seen Mushishi you've got what I mean:
Tumblr media
In fact any illness-causing being could count as poison-bringer. Hôsôkami (smallpox demon) was truly feared by all before vaccination was introduced in Japan.
Finally, continuing the supernatural poisoning trail, best girl is probably legendary fox witch Tamamo no Mae who among other terrible deeds made emperor Konoe fall sick with poisonous miasma (some version of the story attributes the disease to another monster, the nue). I covered a similar murderous kitsune folktale here.

I'm also more than a little disappointed in our Squad 11 boys here. Hisagi's shikai does provide him an advantage here (that buzzsaw thing he does will probably kill way more of these blobs than a katana), but it's hard to imagine Ikkaku or Yumichika getting a lot of baby-killing throughput with Hozukimaru or Fuji Kujaku. Break out the secret powers, gentlemen!

I say this as a person who has read a lot of Bleach meta, and even more Bleach fanfic, but I have never seen anyone take even a vague stab at this: What Fuji Kujaku is supposed to be?? I'm not talking about the reiatsu-sucking thing, I get that, I am talking about as a weapon, it's...four blades? Sharpened in basically a single plane? How, exactly, is that better than one blade? They're not even arranged in a rake, with the blades in parallel, like tekko-kagi (you know, the ninja claws that make you look Wolverine). Those are meant for blocking and disarming, similar to sai, and while Fuji Kujaku could probably be used that way, I don't see that their design has any advantages over those, and also, Yumichika never does that. There's the urumi, but functionally, it works like a whip, and Fuji Kujaku is definitely not a whip. The Bleach wiki bleep-blorps around which historical sickle-like weapon it is most like, but everything it uses for comparison has just one blade. Are there four blades because peacocks have four toes? That doesn't even really make sense because of one of them faces backward for perching. I literally cannot think of anything those extra blades are good for, aside from ruining the aerodynamics, catching on shit, and creating a weak point (the hinge). I always assumed Kubo just came up with it for ✨The Aesthetic✨, but seriously, if any of you have any deep lore on multi-bladed weaponry, help me out here.

No. 17: “You’re the lump in my throat and the knot in my chest.”
Collar | Touch Aversion | “Leave me alone.”
“You understand why we must do this, right Mr. Ishida?“ The Kido master that had placed the collar on him asked, two more members of the Kido Corps stood behind him, another man and a woman, she was far more interested in her papers he held while the other two stared at him.
He blinked at the term, crushing the flare of hopeful longing as he was reminded of his father and swallowed, noting the new collar didn’t feel any different physically.
Uryuu nodded to the question, and kept his hands at his side even as he wanted to reach for his pale blue cape so could cover his Shihakushō.
For everyone else’s piece of mind he thought but kept it to himself.
Useless ribbon, easy to shred. Yudokuna judged and he sent a wordless warning to stop her before she broke it out of spite; her temper had grown shorter since it happened.
At least she was staying inside at the moment, the last thing they needed was for Yudokuna to start insulting any of the Kido Corps or the two from the Punishment Force that brought him here or the Captain of squad Two.
In case he decided to fight against getting another collar, as if the idea of being returned to Twelve wasn’t enough to freeze him or the years where he hadn’t been anything but well behaved.
He did truly understand the higher up’s panic, while a Zanpakuto that absorbed Reiatsu wasn’t completely unheard of, one with his Quincy ability to take Reishi itself was not.
The way in which he had taken the ground, walls, almost people, apart was clearly something to be uncomfortable about, Uryuu had seen the aftermath, had faint memories of Yumichika’s sword and chest creaking open in a way flesh shouldn’t.
Had brief visions of peeling the flesh from bone ever since he called out the words that had been echoing through his head just out of reach for days, and almost wiped out the 11’s courtyard.
The fact he had lost control, that he had almost killed people, someone he looked up to for years was what disturbed Uryuu.
He barely remembered the new shape the blade took, just the hunger and his awareness being torn apart into thousand pieces, Yumichika’s horror as Fuji Kujaku’s Shikai cracked then waking up in Four with the fading ache of healed bruises and broken bones, and the leftover tastes of Zaraki’s and Yumichika’s Reiryoku.
While he couldn’t remember much,  the loss of control was enough to stop him from ever repeating it, he didn’t need a new rule banning him or a collar that would stop him from calling it as well as restrict his abilities.
The kido collar was always a bright red, this one however had both the kido-master’s and his own Reiryoku braided into one and sealed close around his neck.
The knowledge that he had Shinigami soul ribbons was always a displeasure, his soul marred with what should be an unnatural red, even if Yudokuna was the one good thing from the horrors of the lab.
This new collar was thicker than his last one.
The one he didn’t remember breaking as Yudokuna’s voice split into a thousand and their hunger overwhelmed him after he managed Bankai.
He looked at his reflection in Yudokuna’s unreleased blade and frowned when he saw it sat higher on his neck, he was going to need to rework his cape collars.
“Something wrong?“ the Kido master asked as he noticed his frown.
“It’s higher,” he explained. "I'm going to need to fix my Capes. "
Captain Soi Fon rolled her eyes as if she hadn’t paid him to sew her a black cat plush six months before, he slipped the blade back into it's sheath.
“We still need to test it.“ one of the Kido corps reminded, not the one that had performed the spell or the note taker.
“Can you use your abilities?” the note taker asked Uryuu.
He used Hirenkyaku to move across the room and back, the collar tightened slightly but it was easy to ignore, and pulled his bladeless hilt up after where it hung from it wraist and summoned his bow, he noticed it was slower but it was only noticeable to him.
He watched as she made note after note and tampered down his curiosity.
“Arrows?”
He fired six shots at the wall keeping them consistent in strength, collecting the Reishi was a little harder than normal but nothing debilitating, nothing that would get them to change the collar.
“Shikai?“
His blade changed as he pulled it from the sheath, the katana shrinking and changing into a Katzbalger while a curved poisoned blade grew from the pommel.
“How long have you been able to call it wordlessly?”
“A year.” He answered with a shrug.
“Now, Bankai?“
He hesitated for a moment
“Ban-“ he coughed, collar tightening, leaving him with the impression of a lump in his throat.
A choke collar! Yudokuna snarled they treat us like a dog.
Let us feast, the thousand voices screamed reacting to her anger and his annoyance, let us out to consume.
Peace. he breathed, don’t give them a reason to make it worse, he pushed back as he felt her reach for the collar, even as he tried to swallow around the lump.
He took a breath after the collar loosen, releasing the Reishi he had collected.
“Can you remove it?“
He ran his hand along it
Probably, he thought, ribbons could be unravelled with ease if you knew fabric and had an ability of Reishi manipulation.
Definitely Yudokuna snapped her fangs.
“No.” He answered, pulling on his cape once he was gestured to, he waited for a dismissal and accepted the escort of Captain Soi Fon and the two members of the Punishment Force.
He was honest he told himself later, when he was finally back in his small room at the Fourth,  he couldn’t remove it, not intact.
The hardest thing was going to be keeping Yudokuna from destroying it.

On the subject of Ruri'Iro Kujaku.
Ruri is definitely a peacock sword. Peacocks in many cultures represent immortality and invulnerability(in China they're seen similar to a phoenix), which actually explains the shikai's regenerating powers. These powers can be seen when Yumichika fights Shuuhei; first Shuuhei has the upper hand, obviously having hurt the other since Yumichika is seen bleeding and bruised before releasing Ruri. After the fight is over we have a scene where the peacock-boi struts to Kenpachi, glowing and sparkling, obviously healed. So yup, Ruri'Iro sucks life energy from it's opponents and returns it to Yumichika as healing. This might also be one of the reasons why Yumi doesn't seem that phased whenever he does get seriously hurt(like in the fight against Charlotte when his arm broke).
The name Fuji Kujaku is obviously a fake name, the reasoning behind it is to get Ruri to release only in melee form, sprouting 4 curved blades. Ruri hates the color fuji(wisteria) and is very spiteful so it releases into 4 blades because Yumichika despises the number four and finds it ugly. This way they're both being assholes to each other, yet of course this is all fine with Yumi, seeing as he wants to appear as a melee-wielding fighter.
When releasing the true shikai, Ruri'iro has a very fan-like type of release, the vines sprouting out of the hilt in a way that actually resembles a peacock's tail feathers. You all know the way peacocks open their feathers when they're trying to attract a mate, right? Well when doing so, the female peacock is usually surrounded by the eye-bearing feathers as the male focuses on them... Kinda sounds like what Yumichika's shikai does. It surrounds it's target, spreading vines in a fan-like manner and there's puds in the said vines that resemble eyes. Sure, the puds eventually turn into flowers, but the visual is pretty similar!
Thinking it through like this kind of makes me believe Ruri'Iro's final release would definitely be something that boosts that immortality. For example, peacocks are actually pretty resilient in real life - they can eat poisonous plants and snakes without it affecting them - so maybe the bankai form for Ruri is just immune to poison on top of it being able to suck in reishi and turning it into energy Yumichika uses. In Greek mythology, the peacock has a special meaning too. To quote; "the peacock was believed to have sprung from the blood of Argos Panoptes, the hundred-eyed giant. Later accounts state that it was Hera who, upon the death of Argos, placed his eyes in the peacock's tail herself or—alternately—turned Argos into a peacock" so yeah. Maybe Yumichika's bankai has a hundred eyes and releases the power of a giant for him while using others' reiatsu freely as healing. I doubt we will ever really know, but it's a theory I actually kind of like.

i'm answering all these bleach asks cause i like bleach and want to:
Who are your top three favorite characters and why? (It can be arrancars, espada, humans, soul reapers, zanpakuto spirits, souls, visoreds, fullbringers, and of course I can’t forget the quincies): Yumichika...like of course Ikkaku Kenpachi
Who is/are your least favorite character(s) and why?: So many, but none I like HATE, I just have no interest in when they're on screen PERSONALLY: Toshiro Gin Hisagi Kira Hinamori Most of the fullbringers Shino Madarame (solely because she brought in the storyline that ikkaku is from a noble/upper class family) Omaeda Bount Arc guys Mod Soul arc guys Kon (just for being a perv) Ulquiorra (i like his design i just...i never get him so i never get into him y'know?) Pepe (...just makes me uncomfortable which is intentional but...) Zabimaru (ONLY in the Zanpakuto arc design, turn back into the baboon please even though i like rough-voiced women, i hate the snake child)
Favorite minor character?: I'm not sure what counts for minor cause Kubo is so wishy-washy with character's presences. But, Tatsuki, lesbian of all time. Or Jackie Tristan.
Favorite zanpakuto?: Character-wise: Fuji/Ruri'iro Kujaku (causes the gay allegories, will always be famous) Aesthetic-wise: Chika Shihōin's Zanpakutō (pretty, love a tassle)
Favorite shikai? Ability-wise: Sakasama no Sekai (i think it's really fun and relatively simple and can catch anyone off-guard but Katen Kyōkotsu is also fun but soo complicated i still don't fully get its rules sometimes) Aesthetic-wise: Ichigo's initial shikai (talented, brilliant, incredible, iconic)
Favorite bankai?: Ability-wise: Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame (spoilers) (it's op as hell and sooo in character for Urahara with the dissection vibe) Aesthetic-wise: Senbonzakura Kageyoshi (the image of the blades rising in the dark has always stuck with me but there's alot of contenders Katen Kyōkotsu: Karamatsu Shinjū or Minazuki)
Favorite kido? (It can be bakudo, hado, or kaido): Man, idk, Rikujōkōrō cause it's the only one I remember the ability of
Favorite squad? Squad 11 of course, without question.
Favorite captain?: Kenpachi but I also don't think he's a good captain sdjhgjdhg. So, Shunsui I think, he's the most competent. Or Mayuri, cause he's weird and interesting.
Favorite lieutenant?: I think Ikkaku? Cause of his loyalty. But also his ass does not do the lieutenant's work so actually probably Nanao.
What’s your favorite opening theme from the series?: Orange Range - *Asterisk, OP1 (always and forever)
What’s your favorite ending theme from the series?: My Pace - SunSet Swish, ED 6 (i just like the beat)
Favorite manga panel?: This is like evil, there's too much choice. Like I LOVE kubo's use of negative space so I adore so many of those impact panels. I think Kyoraku Shunsui's Bankai reveal page slays cause of the paint texture. Rose's star blast wound panel. Ichigo's vasto lorde form reveal. Soooo many panels in the Unohanna vs. Zaraki fight like her bankai reveal. I'm going to keep this in mind when I do my re-read after the anime ends and then come back to this kxjhgkjdhfg.
Most heart-wrenching death?: Unohana. I think it was sad for the characters but mostly for ME, cause she served every ounce of cunt and then died. I always say, if Kubo is to finally abandon his habit of reviving/bringing characters back, I hope he stills brings her back no matter what. Tousen's is up there.
Favorite arc and why? Soul Society: The Sneak Entry Arc, hands down. AND NOT JUST CAUSE YUMICHIKA IS INTRODUCED, it's the arc that has the most fights I'm interested in, the most development for some characters and others get to shine. I do definitely think nostalgia is a big reason too because I think that the first time I ever saw Bleach and it's where I got to in Bleach before dropping off when I was a kid. But I do love it.
Favorite movie and why?: I think Memories of Nobody, maybe Hell Verse? Because I think they had good stories and I remember being really into either it was the animation or emotion of Memories of Nobody. I think Hell Verse, I liked the animation. But honestly, I don't remember much about the movies and I watched them only last year.
Favorite piece of merch that you own? I think it's my Yumichika tote bag? But I love alot of my merch, and especially my Ichigo figure my friend's boyfriend won for me in one of those remote crane games (and it got lost to the transit void and we'd all given up hope).
Do you have any tattoos? Yes. Yumichika cat tattoo by @ kiera_tattoo (no pics cause there's something we need to tweak when I can next get a trip to London ;-; ), but I love it!! still thinking about getting a panel tattoo or sword but atm not Looking for one.
If you’re a fic writer, who do you write for? I don't write fic much but it is Yumichika/Ikkaku but usually just musing on how a reveal might look or their past. It's not really shippy.
If you are an artist, do you have a favorite character to draw?: I don't do fanart much, so I've only drawn Yumichika.
If you could be in the Bleach universe would you be a soul reaper, visored, human, quincy, espada or arrancar?: God I'd probably be a human who sits at home not questioning buildings getting exploded.
Free space to ask whatever you want that I missed or talk about something that isn’t mentioned! Favourite flashback: All of Turn Back the Pendulum

Yachiru is laying on her stomach on top of a building that overlooks the training grounds. Crayons and paper splayed out all around her. Ken-Chan is fighting the whole eleventh at once, and he has the biggest smile on his face! He’s having fun! She’s adding a big smile to him in her drawing as she watches. It’s a gift for him once he finishes training.
@yahchiru
Ikakku and Yumichika are the only two that are making this fight worth something. He might spare an iota of effort to toss away one of the countless others swarming him, snatching them by the wrist and using them as a blunt instrument to bludgeon their comrades. Sometimes, Kenpachi even uses them as a distraction, tossing them at one of his two closest friends in order to trip them up.
In the massive melee surrounding him, he's had some time to reflect, seeing their fighting styles. The two of them are so much stronger than they were when he first got to meet them... Kenpachi can't help but smile the entire time, as swords bounce off his skin while he dodges Hozukimaru's practiced thrusts and Fuji Kujaku's elegant slices. The tide of bodies surrounding them is mostly an inconvenience... but it wouldn't be a lesson for the others if they didn't participate.
Those two... They're really strong. He can be proud of how far they've come, all on their own. He's happy for them. His friends.
Tumblr media
Unbeknownst to him, it's all being commemorated. Ken-chan, Baldy, and Yun-Yun are all captured in crayon, laughing and smiling as they battle. It's a masterpiece.

sometimes i feel so deeply sorry about yumichika, ‘cause he actually believes that his best friend and his captain would hate him if they found out about his true power
nonsense
okay, they would be a bit shocked at first, expecially because he lied
i’m pretty sure that ikkaku would even feel hurt
he told yumichika about his bankai, only he, renji and iba-san know his secret, but yumichika didn’t trust him enough to tell him his
kenpachi would go like “yeah, if i could stand your after-battle embarrassing wiggling, i think i can accept anything. if you’re strong, and like fighting, and you’re starving for battles, there will always be a place for you in my division. now get your fucking ass back to work.”
ikkaku would go like “i’m not disappointed by your weird sword, i’m disappointed because you didn’t tell me. do something like that again and i’ll kill you, got it?”
the moment yachiru finds out about the truth she would go like “neh, neh, let me see it! sounds cool, yun-yun!”
and yumichika would feel so overwhelmed with emotions because his only inner wish just became true

What do you expect that to do, Yumichika? Ugh, Fuji Kujaku is the worst sword release ever. Not only is it completely impractical, but the aesthetics quite frankly leave a lot to be desired.

No. 22: “They never saw us coming, ‘til they hit the floor.”
Glass Shard | Vehicular Accident | “Watch out!”
Yesterday was Uryuu learning Shikai, today is the Ban-kai incident and how he became squad 11's unofficial fourth seat.
----
Learning Shikai started as a nightmare and became a gift, Yudokuna was a comfort and sense of safety and a reminder that he could choose what he was, that he still had some control over himself.
Bankai was the opposite, he felt pride, almost excitement because when he finally managed to make out the words the spiders had been whispering to him, he said them aloud during a spar at the 11th. And it took the control he thought he had away.
“Ban-Kai. Spawn and consume all, Yudokuna.”
He loses himself as the voices stop and he becomes them, his mind and awareness being torn apart into the thousands and their overwhelming hunger swallows him.
—--
Later he will ask how he missed Uryuu’s calling out his Bankai.
It was a normal afternoon and Yumichika was sunning himself while watching as Uryuu taught several new recruits why he was an unofficial seated of squad 11 when Yumichika notices, almost a moment too late, Uryuu’s Spiritual Power turns hungry in a way he is uniquely familiar with.
“Watch out!” he calls a useless warning, already throwing himself forward in shunpo, he gets there just in time to block with a Shikai he hadn’t called, it saves the unseated from death and Uryuu from the guilt he’d feel, but even then they are all thrown through the wall behind him.
He recovers quickly enough to return to block again, Kujaku’s warning clear enough in the fact he took this form without being called, the spiders he can see are another warning. Crawling out of the sword, spreading out from Uryuu, growing more numerous as Uryuu takes their surroundings apart.
It’s the third hit that he notices that Uyruu is weakening the bonds of reishi, and he looks up to see Uryuu normal blue eyes are a mix of gold and pale blue and he wonders is Uryuu even knows where he is before he block again and realises his mistake.
Fuji Kujaku cracks slightly before pain erupts from his chest and blood appears in his vision. He looks down to see the uniform of his chest torn and blooded as his chest cracks the same way his blade did.
He barely notes his struggle to breathe as Ikkaku’s shouts and he’s pulled away.
He blinks up at Ikkaku’s face. When did he move?
“S- st- stop him.” he gasps out, he wants to say more that ‘he doesn’t know what he’s doing, he’ll never forgive himself if he doesn’t destroy himself first,’ but can’t as blackness consumes him.
Yumichika wakes to Yachiru standing above him. He notes the Captain’s thunderous signature outside the room, almost hiding Ikkaku’s and causing the smaller ones around the to avoid, apart from ah-
Captain Unohana and a rare angry Isane, they were at the fourth.
“You noticed before me.” she asked, he tone a little too sharp to go with the grin.
“They changed.” he answered the unasked question, sitting up stiffly. The gaping likely fatal wound was gone, leaving an ache. Uryuu’s Spiritual pressure had changed the moment he went Bankai as was expected but the way his power kept changing wasn’t normal nor was the bloodlust and rage that entered Uryuu normal tightly controlled movements.
Or the hunger that echoed Yumichika and Kujaku’s own.
“Did you see them?” Yachiru asks her hand fisting in the sheets, and he’s more than a little concerned at the uncurrent of violence in her body.
“Yachiru.” the Captain drawled before Yachuri tore the sheets, she dropped the sheets and Yumichika finds he likes the sadness that replaced the violence even less.
“The spiders.” Yumichika speaks, as he remembered the flickers in his vision as he crossed blades, the feeling of crawling at the edge of his Reiryoku.
“What? What spiders?” Ikkaku asks as he comes closer, leaning on the bed next to him, Yumichika ignores the way Ikkaku stares at his chest, likely still seeing the way he has cracked open even with the blade touching him.
“Who’s the woman then?” Zaraki asked, apparently reading something from Yachiru’s mood, letting the despondent Yachiru climb on shoulder.
“The woman is Yudokuna, but their bankai was the spiders.'' He spoke looking at Yachiru for agreement, she nodded.
What spiders?” Ikkaku asked, again ignored.
“They can’t be what they should,” Yachiru sighed sadly.
“That was why they lost it.” he commented as it suddenly came together, Uryuu had always been an odd mix to his senses, normal Shinigami mixed with something other, Quincy since he had learned.
Uryuu normal Reiryoku always seemed to lean more to the other, the Quincy than Shingami which made sense since he was a Quincy first and he was still attached to his living body. Their Shikai was the closest they had come to perfect balance between both halves yet during Bankai the Shingami had overpowered his Quincy and in an attempt to balance it they lost control.
He was suddenly very aware why the Quincy’s were such a danger, Uryuu had torn the building apart taking the Reishi into himself with every breath and step while he wasn’t even aware of what he was doing.
He would have taken the men apart the same way, he remembered the feeling of the poison, the familiar burn hiding something else as he felt the Reishi in his blood weaken, in Shikai he was strong enough to fight past it, Kujaku screaming in panic before his lost conscience. The way Uryuu had cracked his sword the same way he had his chest.
“How was he stopped?” a cold lump formed in his throat.
“Baldy distracted him before Kenny got there. Then he brought you here.”
“He managed to block three of my hits, could have done more but he lost his footing in one of the holes he made himself and went through a wall.” Zaraki explained
“Though?” He has a picture of the wall disintegrating around Uryuu and adding to his power.
“The normal way, not the new take things apart bit by bit.”
“After that we followed you and baldly and brought Ryuu here.”
“Captain Unohana treated you first.”  Ikkaku tells him, before adding ”Good thing, the little prince would be gutted to wake up to find he killed you.”
Which was the reason he had gotten involved, even if he had overestimated himself, after all the work he and the rest of eleven had gone through to install a proper enjoyment of fighting in the boy the last thing he wanted was pointless guilt to ruin it.
“He’ll be banned from using that. Shame kid’ll be a damn good fight once he figures out how to control it.” Zaraki adds, Yachiru sighing from his shoulder in agreement
Yumichika doesn’t mention how unlikely that is, but then again Uryuu should never have managed Shikai and Yudokuna was persistent.
“They’ll probably make him a new collar to make sure he can’t.” Ikkaku concluded with a shrug
“I don’t think they can.” he admitted.
“What do you mean, fifth seat Ayasegawa?” Isane’s voice was sharp; the normally timid lieutenant was staring at him coldly.
“He's been leaving it on to follow the rules, I’m sure he could have removed it himself at any time.”
“The reason it came off now is because Yudokuna got rid of it.” Yachiru explained. “normally Ryuu doesn’t let her.”
Which is a great comfort that the only thing stopping Uryuu from taking apart their surroundings was something he chose to leave on, well the boy had style since he covered the collar with his high necked capes, Yumichika took comfort that at least his student had style.
“His injuries have been healed.”
“And the rest? That boy will put up a fight but he’s far too soft hearted for actually hurting someone.”
“A natural healer.” Captain Unohana gave them a sad smile. “he will be relieved you are alright and have no hard feelings.” she said directly to him, Yumichika smiled back ignoring the raised hair on the back of his neck the captain’s words, they much like the question Yachiru woke him up with, had too much of an edge to ignore.
“Of course, we’ll just have to keep working on his Shikai.” he meant every word, because like hell was he giving up training a kid who could do that while looking magnificent, take him out then go up against Ikkaku and the Captain.
“That’s good.” Captain Unohana said with a beautiful smile, her lieutenant followed her sending one last look at him, he sighed not doubt he would have the prettier of 13th third seat around demanding an explanation before Renji returned from his day off catching up with friends to find out that Uryuu was sent back to the fourth early.
Isane only has a backbone when it comes to her captain, and her younger siblings’ health.
“Kenny, can we have extra cake next time Uryuu comes. To make up that he can’t play properly.” he hears Yachiru ask as they leave, Ikkaku hanging back as he pulls himself up to follow.
He’ll send a nice bolt of fabric with Yachiru to ensure Uryuu knows he has no hard feelings.
