A Review of Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman' (2019)
Today I will share my thoughts on the 2019 movie The Irishman, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. This movie is based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt, which tells the story of Frank Sheeran, a hitman who worked for the mob and claimed to have killed Jimmy Hoffa, the leader of the Teamsters Union.
The Irishman is a long movie, almost three and a half hours. But it doesn’t feel dull or slow. It’s a fascinating and epic journey through the history of organized crime in America from the 1950s to the 2000s. The movie shows how Frank Sheeran rose from being a truck driver to becoming a trusted associate of Russell Bufalino, the boss of the Pennsylvania crime family, and how he met and befriended Jimmy Hoffa, who was one of the uttermost dominant and controversial figures in labor politics. The movie also explores every personal and moral consequence of Frank’s behavior, as he has to deal with his family, conscience, and loyalty.
The movie is a masterpiece of filmmaking, with superb performances from the lead actors and a brilliant script by Steven Zaillian. It utilizes de-aging technology to make the actors look younger in some scenes, which is impressive and realistic. The movie also has a great soundtrack that fits the mood and era of each moment. It is not just a crime drama but a reflection on aging, regret, and mortality.
The Irishman is one of the best movies of 2019 and one of Scorsese’s finest works. It’s a must-watch for anyone who loves cinema and history. However, I have to deduct one star for the excessive length and some historical inaccuracies.

How U.S. Capitalism Works: House Painters That Cover the Earth
How U.S. Capitalism Works: House Painters That Cover the Earth
“I heard you paint houses.”
“Yes, sir, I do. I also do my own carpentry.”
Those were among the first words exchanged between Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) and his “house painter,” Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) in Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman.”
Of course, in the Mob’s parlance, “painting houses” refers to the blood splashed on walls when hitmen like Frank Sheeran do their work. “Carpentry” refers…

My bad habits lead to you.
Quick sketch of these two in the middle of a meeting this morning, because thanks to @beguilewritesstuff that song has officially became their song and I can’t get rid of it out of my head even after all these months tbh...
ID: An illustration of Frank Castle and Matt Murdock standing in the center of blank, black background, staring up because it’s (kind of) from a bird-view perspective. Actually, the one who’s looking up menacingly is Frank, in his iconic bloodied skull vest, while Matt aims his ear toward the same direction in his civilian clothes. Both Matt and Frank wear full black outfit from head to toe, showered in teal/minty-to-dark color gradient. Both of their hands are covered in blood, clasped together in the center, chest-to-chest, in similar pose illustration from “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran featuring Bring Me The Horizon music video. End of ID.
