if you're wondering what the big deal is about the louis-philippe sentence in les misérables, it is, in the original french, 760 words long. the subject of the sentence doesn't appear until 95% of the way through, at word #711; the main verb is word #712. the sentence contains 91 commas and 49 semicolons and is almost entirely a list of laudatory adjectival phrases describing the erstwhile king of france. this is perhaps especially notable because les mis is, shall we say, not known for being particularly gung-ho about the monarchy.

this sentence copied and pasted into Word takes up more than one page single-spaced. in the 1800-page folio classique edition, it is fully two and a half of those 1800 pages. that means that les mis is 0.14% this single sentence. more of les mis is made up of this sentence than earth's atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide (0.04%). if the page count of les mis stayed the same but every sentence was the length of this one, les mis would consist of only 720 sentences total.

FORTY-NINE!!!! #victor hugo would be TERRIBLE as a hype man. he would take so long that the crowd would tear him to pieces with their fingernails #before louis-philippe could come out on stage. and then they'd be so mad at louis-philippe for inspiring him that they'd tear LP apart too #actually i think i'm using hype man wrong. i'm thinking of the guy that gets the crowd hyped up for the main guy before the main guy #makes an appearance. a hype man is the guy who makes interjections during a song. victor hugo would be bad at both of these #like just imagine the announcer at the beginning of a basketball game. and now...your starting lineup...at power forward... #and then he just says the 760-word louis-philippe sentence. #dead. murdered at the hands of the fans. microphone shoved down his trachea.

I'm sure that this has been stated many times before, but the way Assassination Classroom begins and ends with Koro Sensei taking attendance is just writing genius.

The first roll call is loud, violent, and chaotic; it's literally all the kids shooting machine guns at Koro Sensei while he effortlessly dodges them and cheekily calls out their names, telling them to speak louder so that he can hear them over all the gunfire. It's impersonal—we don't focus on any of the kids except Nagisa, everyone else is just a figure with a gun.

The last roll call is the exact opposite: quiet, intimate, and personal. Once again, all the kids surround Koro Sensei, but now they're on top of him, pinning down his tentacles, and he is completely immobile on the ground. Now, against the backdrop of this quiet night, we focus on every student of Class 3-E, each of them getting their moment with Koro Sensei as he gently calls out their names and waits for them to say "here".

A beautiful example of connecting the beginning with the end in a way that effectively conveys the progression of everyone involved. Bravo Matsui sensei, bravo.

#I finished lying and penising for the last time… #I got the game for my PS5 after 100%ing it on game pass bc I was so impressed and obsessed I needed to get a physical copy #so I obviously had to 100% it again and I hilariously forgot to read a letter to unlock an achievement #so I had to play the game a FOURTH TIME since you only get the letter at the end and restarting the game wipes all letters from your bag #but that let me do something I LOVE doing with these shorter games #which is putting the effort to give these characters the best endings their quests allow #so I can leave the characters in the world with as much peace as I can #I also did this in majora’s mask with my final run of the game being about doing every single side quest I could and beating ever boss #so that termina would be as peaceful as it would be once the mask was destroyed and skull kid freed #that being said wearing the alidoro mask led to an unintentionally hilarious semi final cutscene #a tear is supposed to roll down your face at one point but instead it was just a completely still super close shot of the dog mask #and I burst out laughing like nooooooo #luckily I’ve scene the ending like 3 times already but can you imagine if that was the only time I’d seen it 😂 #I one rounded nameless puppet this time I truly felt like a god I’m so grateful for neowiz for making this game its been so fun #even after beating it like 7 times I know I’ll be playing it again one day and I’m gonna be a preorder ho for the Lies of series #the DLC and sequel can’t come soon I’m so in love with this game I need to eat it #Lies of P #video games #lies of p sophia #lies of p carlo

real talk though; if i could surgically remove the Bruce & Alfred scenes out of Gotham TV and make an entire separate Batman project out of them i would, because they're so distinctly different from the rest of the show and from the common Batman comic narratives, it floors me everytime. If we take the whole show as a body, the heart is placed in Bruce Wayne and it bleeds into his relationships with people, but most importantly with Alfred. It's such stark and exciting constrast to how Batman comics generally portray Bruce Wayne or the Batman persona; Gotham!Bruce is so tender and bare and transparent, heart beating and bleeding so close to his skin, you can see when it taints through his shirt, and his moments of absolute irrational sentimentality are not played cheap or like missteps in a planned protocol rational persona, they're utterly sincere and every emotion he expresses is as integral to his character as his moments of analytical calculation.

#like it's just so incredibly fascinating to me; how different and distinct Gotham TV's approach to Bruce Wayne was #Every Other Tuesday Morning Batman Comic: Batman is a cool and detached guy who is occasionally plagued by 2.5 emotions #that he beats himself up about in private and beats criminals in public about at 3am #and then he doesn't feel emotions for the next 35 years #Gotham TV: Bruce throws Alfred out of Wayne Manor in two separate occasions and then runs back and kisses his shiny shoes and cries #and holds him and kisses his templeand serenades a fucking love letter to him the Waynes' charity gala saying Alfred is the man who made hi #Like. godddd Gotham Alfred and Bruce are so desperate for each other as each other's purpose and meaning #Alfred has wholly dissolved into Bruce's narrative to the point that Bruce fucking kills him and he smiles and accepts and adores Bruce #as Bruce drives a sword right through his heart. like YEP THAT'S SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED!!!! #and the English language doesn't have words for me to describe with the way Alfred soothes and holds the Brainwashed Bruce #as he tries to get him back. the tears and the ''i love you; i love you''s #the same ''i love you''s that Bruce cries by his hospital bed after he slices through him #hashtag never forget how insane Gotham TV was!!!!! #not the most intelligent or well executed Batman media but ohhhhhhh boy; the most tender hearted one indeed! #Gotham TV #Bruce Wayne #Batman

2x21 "crisis" really is a perfect episode
