I'm so curious what Van Helsing and Jack had at Jack Straw's Castle and subsequent posho Picadilly restaurant. I tried to find historical pub menus but I kept getting a Gordon Ramsey restaurant instead. Pub food is very hit or miss. What do you eat when you need to stay up at night watching for vampires? Steak and kidney pie? Fish and chips? Bangers and mash?

 Apparently, popular food was oily fish, herrings, sprats, eels, oysters, mussels, cockles, whelks, cod, haddock, chestnuts, hazelnuts, bread with lard, lots of seasonal fruit and veggies.

(This is in response to me wanting to know what Jack and Van Helsing ate during their graveyard adventures)

Huh wow. I would never have guessed so much seafood! But it makes sense as it was probably much cheaper than meat.
