I found the 1899 Highfield House in another group, and this is what the poster wrote: "Haunted Houses For Spooky Creeps. 100% the house on the block that's sat empty for decades that you purchase for a 'bargain' because you're a silly American, and everyone on the block comes to watch over the hedges as you move in, frowning, because they all know the awful things that happened there."
The Belper, Derbyshire, UK home has 6bds, 1ba. £750K / $940,860. So, let us 'silly Americans' take a look at this 'Haunted 'House for Spooky Creeps':
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entrance certainly has a vibe, but it's all original and the millwork is beautiful. Look at these doors with the stained glass.
Tumblr media
Contrary to what the OP said, this house was not empty for 100 yrs. It's currently lived in and some rooms were updated and/or painted. In fact, this fireplace looks Art Deco.
Tumblr media
The typically 70s kitchen cabinets were painted. The kitchen's a little dull, but you can work with it.
Tumblr media
The sitting room was repainted and has an original fireplace.
Tumblr media
The dining room has a large elegant fireplace.
Tumblr media
This room looks like it could be a bedroom.
Tumblr media
The pool room looks like it has a stage or platform of some kind.
Tumblr media
Very vintage toilet in this bath.
Tumblr media
Quite a spacious bedroom.
Tumblr media
I don't know why the description says 1 bath, b/c this certainly looks like a bath that was updated in the 70s.
Tumblr media
There's a very nice view.
Tumblr media
Lovely back yard.
Tumblr media
And look at the wonderful carriage house and stone wall. This building has a lot of potential.

Alcazar Hotel
2450 Derbyshire Road
Cleveland Heights, Ohio
The Alcazar Hotel is a historic building at Surrey and Derbyshire Rds. in the Cedar-Fairmount district of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. The hotel was built in 1923 in the Spanish-Moorish style, based on hotels such as the Alcazar and Ponce de Leon in St. Augustine, Florida. The interior courtyard, with a covered arcade, is decorated with colored glazed tiles and a central fountain. The architect was Harry T. Jeffery; sculpture, decorative plasterwork, and fountain was done by Fischer and Jirouch. Prominent guests included Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Mary Martin, Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Lupe Vélez, and Johnny Weissmueller. It has been said that Cole Porter wrote the iconic song "Night and Day" while staying at the hotel.
In 1963, the hotel was sold to Western Reserve Associates, and partially converted into a retirement home, with the remainder still used as a hotel. The Alcazar was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1979. The Alcazar Hotel is also a Cleveland Heights Landmark. In September 2014, the Alcazar was sold by Western Reserve to Kirt Montlack Ltd. for $1.3 million. The developer eliminated the lodging units and converted the building entirely to apartments. In July 2022, the building was sold for $2.6 million to RP Derbyshire LLC, headed by Rico Pietro and Erik Loomis. The new owners announced plans to restore the original hotel lobby, dining room, and other common areas on the ground floor.

Tumblr media
That was a good week! :)
Complete
💙 You Know I Live for the Hustle by Bittersweet_in_Boston (Modern AU, Flight Attendant Bucky, CEO Steve | 3,5K | Explicit): He’s coming back down the aisle a few minutes later, calling over his shoulder to Nat, when he turns his head just in time to avoid bumping into 3C, who’s standing there, looking at Bucky intensely but maybe also a little uncertainly. Bucky stops and looks up into 3C’s face. He has to physically restrain himself from swallowing hard, because 3C is a Specimen of the Highest Order. Tall, a few inches taller than Bucky’s six feet, dressed in head-to-toe Tom Ford business casual with dark blond hair sweeping across his forehead and curling at his very expensive shirt collar, piercing blue eyes, full lips, and a neatly trimmed, well-cared-for beard.Further investigation reveals glints of silver in both hair and beard, and now Bucky really needs to go lie down. Instead, he raises his eyebrows as if to say, Well? (Part 1 of Live for the Hustle)
💙 Get a Little More Close to Me by Bittersweet_in_Boston (Modern AU, Flight Attendant Bucky, CEO Steve | 13K | Explicit): “Bucky. I’m so glad you decided to join me.” Steve stands up at his primo table in the middle of the Water Library’s main dining room to greet Bucky. He looks even better than he did on the flight, in a lightweight silk-wool suit in royal blue and a crisp bright white button up with the top three buttons open. Bucky very purposely doesn’t peek to see if any chest hair is showing because he’s having enough trouble holding it together as it is. (Part 2 of Live for the Hustle)
💙 There’s a place I want to take you, where the unknown will surround you by Bittersweet_in_Boston (Regency AU | 8K | Explicit): …in which James Barnes of Winterbourn in Derbyshire meets Steven Rogers, a retired army commander and the new master of neighboring Topsfield Hall, and they develop an unlikely and all-consuming…friendship. (Part 1 of The RegencyVerse)
💙 And in between it’s never as it seems by Bittersweet_in_Boston (Regency AU | 12K | Explicit): …in which James Barnes of Winterbourn in Derbyshire and retired Army commander Steven Rogers take their friendship to the next level, but must contend with much more than societal disapproval to be together. (Part 2 of The RegencyVerse)
💙 September 1, 1969 by BeaArthurPendragon (1970′s AU, Vietnam Vets Bucky&Steve | 7K | Explicit): Last year, Buck Barnes came home from Vietnam with a bad back and a prosthetic arm named Roz--and with nothing left to lose, he let the GI Bill take him to college as far away from his closeted life in Indiana as possible: New York City. When a gorgeous blond square looking lost as a lamb walks into the gay bar where he works on the weekends, he’s only thinking about tonight. He never expected to find himself wishing for a tomorrow, too.Lots of feelings with some porn. (Part 1 of I'll Light Your Way Home)
💙 Sugar by BeaArthurPendragon/ @beaarthurpendragon (1970′s AU, Vietnam Vets Bucky&Steve | 2K | Explicit): It’s been two months since a couple of lost Vietnam vets found each other one night in a Hell’s Kitchen gay bar. One sleepy Sunday morning, they start to realize that what they have could become something more. (Part 2 of I'll Light Your Way Home)
💙 Polaris by Becassine/ @becassine (Canon | 9K | Teen): Sarah Rogers always said that they were written in the stars. Bucky thinks that perhaps she was right.
💙 Here and Where You Are by crinklefries/ @spacerenegades (Time Travel | 29K | Mature): In his first life, Bucky Barnes never gets his happy ending. This changes everything, so he has to try, and try again.
Bucky's Club by buckybarnesdeservestobehappy (hutchabelle) (Bucky & Alpine | < 1K | General): Bucky goes on a quest for the best sandwich in Brooklyn and shares it with Alpine.

I’m writing a novel, but at the same time, a P&P Regency ff is bugging me, so...
A snippet - two letters.
####
Dearest Charlotte,
Derbyshire is cold.
I am terribly sorry to start on such a gloomy note, but today was a rather bad day and I had the strongest need to find the right sentence to sum it up. To put it in more detail, the county seems cloudy, wet, and very, very muddy. Even in my wildest days of traipsing across Longbourn meadows I've never managed to dirty that many petticoats. I'm quite resolved to stop wearing any - but that would cause quite a scandal, wouldn't it?
Otherwise, things are in perfect order, just like we all predicted. The master of the manor is thankfully absent for most of the year, so the servants - and me - are living their own lives, independent from their employer's wishes. The steward collects the rents and manages the home farm, I learn how to manage the dairy, and everyone seems to be quite content with their lot in life.
I wanted to thank you for the last letter you've sent to me when I was still in London. The housekeeper’s almanack will be of great use - especially the parts about managing the kitchen supplies. With Mrs Reynolds so sick, I have nobody to ask for help when the cooks start grumbling about deliveries not arriving on time. I have a suspicion that they are trying me and checking if I know what I'm about. I hope to beat them at that game.
Next week I'm taking some of the more capable maids and going to a country fair to buy some of the local wool. I have a feeling that with what late summer looks like around here, the winters may be much more challenging than we, girls from the South, are used to.
Please give my regards to all your family and write me back as soon as you may. I need to know how the situation in Meryton is developing. Remember to address it correctly at Pemberley, so that it doesn't get lost on the way.
All my love, to you
I.
####
Dearest Isabelle,
It was so good to hear back from you after such a prolonged silence. I'm sorry you must suffer the colds of remote North, but as you well know, we all have our crosses to bear.
As to the situation in Meryton, after which you were enquiring - the society had, in general, come back to the normal state. Some will never be the same, but you know better than anyone that a tragedy like this one makes even the staunchest figures of local society tremble.
The new element of our social setting is currently residing in the Inn and providing an extraordinary amount of excellent entertainment to everyone. He is at the same time trying to manage Longbourn's rebuilding, seeking local masons who would do it in the shortest time and at the smallest cost and attempting to ingratiate himself with local nobility.
As of now, the only person who invited the good pastor is, I must admit, my own father, and that he did only from the feeling of obligation, as the pillar - albeit somewhat shaken - of our community. However, even my dear father's tolerant soul and failing hearing aren't enough to ensure Mr Collins repeated admission to our table. As my younger brothers are of a terribly impressionable age, they took to imitating Mr Collins' table manners and thus made my dear Maman swear on her mother's grave she will not let that man inside our house again.
I must admit that the view of Mr Collins eating cabbage is something that could make any maiden swear off the male sex, convert to Catholicism and join a convent. Unless, of course, she was inoculated to such things by the virtue of being an older sister to two teenage boys who delight in making any meal as disgusting to others as is possible by the usage of a few potatoes, boiled Brussel sprouts and some carrots. You have dined with us so you very well know how impossible both Jonathan and Jack can be, if they are allowed any leniency during meals, therefore you can imagine what kind of spectacle Mr Collins provided if mother declared him too disgusting to admit to our table ever again.
Regarding the wool, please remember to check the spin of the yarn and the uniformity of thickness before committing to purchasing any bigger amounts. Also, I advise you to ask the steward for possible usage of local resources - am I incorrect in recalling that Pemberley has significant sheep herds? Maybe it will be cheaper to source the yarn locally, instead of buying someone else's product and letting the coin leave your employer's coffers?
The almanack is a terribly useful innovation - Maman swears by it and we've already tried out several recipes listed in it, quite successfully. If I come across another book of similar character, I will let you know - you can probably find most of these in a local bookshop, or, if no, order them from a seller in London. I enclose a pattern for a knit shawl you can try in case colder days come much earlier than here.
With best wishes from my family
Yours,
Charlotte
