Happy 40th Anniversary to the original Daicon 4 Film! It was first screened at Daicon IV opening ceremonies in Japan on August 20th, 1983. Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga and Takami Akai would later go on to found Gainax. You can read a translation of the production report from 1983 published in now defunct Animec magazine on Zimmerit here!
this year was the 40th anniversary of the DAICON IV opening, one of my favourite animations ever I was too busy to draw a homage on time and... I'm still busy but whatever, here's a doodle of the daicon girl
Cover of the program for the 22nd Japan Science Fiction Convention, aka Daicon IV, held at the Osaka Welfare Pension Hall on 20 and 21 August 1983. The cover art is by mangaka Satomi Mikuriya of his character Nora Scholar from his manga Nora.
On the 20th of August 1983, Daicon IV was released. It was made by Daicon Film, a 12 man studio with the 3 founding members being Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga, and Takami Akai. The studio would later go on to become Gainax studios.
Am attending Wonder Festival 2023 today! Is the biggest 'garage kit' con and a big part of early anime history in particular, when figurines were a very load-bearing part of the fanfom. Thought i would share the above article by the always-esteemed Zimmerit group on its history.
My biggest draw is this year they are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the DAICON IV short/founding Gainax project, with production materials and a bamf figuring that will almost certainly sell out before I can see it.
It has the classic Itano circus with the swords! Very cute.
Arcee: Dreams of Diacon is the latest short fan film from 87render, whose work was last seen in a Starscream focused short that released last year. This short is a tribute to the Diacon IV short of days past. No “Twilight” though.
My lazy bum finally cranked out the first illustration of the year. Followed in the trend of drawing bunny girls and figured the Daicon Girl was fitting.
