Custom Tags Info and Guidelines

Hello! I wrote about 1,732 words about custom tags, what they are, how to use them, and what the differences are between custom tags, signatures, and suggested tags! Additionally, I have put in place some guidelines on how to use them, which hopefully will explain why some custom tags will not be used as a tag, or why a kinfession might be deleted!

If there is one thing I would appreciate anyone learning from this post / blog page, it's this:

Please stop using urls as custom tags, for the love of toe beans! This is why your messages keep getting deleted! I keep telling everyone it's not a call blog and linking the call blogs page [look there's a link right here! http://fictionkinfessions.tumblr.com/seekin whoa! ] but it's fine, it does give me a chance to promote some cool call blogs! [please go look at them, they are so lonely! And lovely!]

Custom Tags Information

#1 What are custom tags?

Custom tags are a specific tag used for anonymous only kinfessions to track if and when a kinfession is posted. Custom tags are aimed for people who have memory problems, for hosts of systems whose fictives / headmates send in kinfessions and then decline to front for some time, for people who are neurodivergent and can’t generally keep track of what messages are sent in, people who may become anxious about when their kinfessions will post, and so on. But honestly anyone can use them, and it’s useful for you to know where your kinfessions are. Plus it helps me find them, if you want to know if a kinfession was received. Custom tags will not be used for non-anon kinfessions. You current or past urls are your automatic tag. If you send in a non-anonymous kinfession with a custom tag, it will be private replied back to you with a explanation why, under the assumption the message sender meant to be anonymous. You are welcome to resend the non-anonymous message however you like, even if it includes a custom tag. Just please understand that the custom tag won’t be used for a non-anonymous kinfession. Custom tags will go in the third tag placement if you wish to track your tag in the search index. Custom tags can also be used in a person’s Ask Response, provided they do not go against Custom Tags Guideline G1 [See below]

#2 Can I use a custom tag?

If you’re the sort of person mentioned above that just can’t keep track of kinfessions for personal reasons, sure! That was the original purpose of custom tags, but usage can be in general. It’s not like I’m going to pester people for diagnoses or whatever. That’d be… weird….

#3 What kind of custom tag could I use?

In summary: a brief word or two [eg #GreenCatMage], a random jumble of characters and numbers [#EonGirl99], a single or multiple emoji [#⭐★⭐], a single emoji in addition to a word [#six⭐s], and so on. I would suggest something very short and to the point as the ask box does have a character limit.

#4 What’s the difference between a signature and a custom tag and a suggested tag?

Both custom tags and signatures consist of a name, emoji, word, or combination thereof that is used to sign off a kinfession. The difference being a hashtag is used at the start of a custom tag to indicate it should be used as a tag. If there is no hashtag, but I won’t know to use it as a tag. A suggested tag is a tag reccommending the use of specific source, name, type of kin [eg AUkin, OCkin, etc], Content Warning, or other tags that could be used for the kinfession in question. Such suggested tags aren’t required, but are appreciated if it’s about an obscure source, or mentioning common names that are difficult to discern the source or, or specific Content Warnings that may not be apparent. [eg child abuse, forest fires, demolition, specific forms of abuse, specific types of injuries]. If a custom tag is used in addition to suggested tags, I do encourage you put the custom tag first. That way, when I copy+paste the tags into the tag box, your custom tag will go into the third tag slot and be able to be tracked.

#5 What if I want to change my custom tag?

I would suggest simply using a new custom tag. If you want to make sure anyone familiar with your custom tag, send in a few kinfessions with the new and the old tag, then start using only the new tag.

#6 I changed my mind about some or all of my kinfessions with the custom tag of ’#tag-goes-here’. Can you delete them or some of them?

Sorry, I can’t. There’s no way for me to know if it’s actually you requesting it to be deleted, or someone pretending to be you. And it’s safer to assume it’s someone pretending to be you, lest you go to check and all your kinfessions are lost.

#7 What if I use a custom tag that goes against the Custom Tag guidelines?

Then I would use the tag #customtag instead of the tag you requested, and leave a note in the tags as to why. Unless you are using a custom tag that is someone’s url, in which case it will simply be deleted. Please check beforehand if your custom tag is a currently used url. I will not be responsible for telling you if it is. If you cannot check for some reason, I suggest you err of the side of caution and use a random keyboard smash, or an assortment of emojis.

#8 What does it matter if a custom tag is a currently used url?

Because multiple reasons that I hope are reasonable and understandable. I’m sorry to make all these rules, but it’s a public website and we should take care to extend courtesy to others. For starters, earlier someone was using a custom tag that was someone’s url, and it turns out the person using the custom tag was a pedophile. The person whose url matched the custom tag would have been associated with a irl pedophile, and this would be damaging and harmful to that person in many obvious ways. How could they defend themself, and how can they prove they aren’t a pedophile if they aren’t even aware of this other person dragging their name/url through the mud? Secondly, this is not a call blog. I have said this multiple times while simultaneously linking the call blog page. Adding in signatures and custom tags that are actually kin blogs or personal blogs defeats the point of the ‘Not a kin call or help blog!’ in the blog description, in addition to maintaining a small list of active call blogs. Please stop and also don’t use urls. I check. It makes me sad that people try to pull this. If you use a custom tag or signature that is a url, I will delete it without remark. Additionally, some people track their urls in case their mutuals or friends want to post something publicly in their url tag to share. Or if they happen to be an RP blog, or fandom blog, and people want the blog to notice their posts specifically. This blog tends to post a lot, and would quickly clog their url tag. While I could block those other blogs, people will still see that this kinfession blog is linking a person’s url to fictionkinity and such.

#9 What if I forget my custom tag? Can you help me figure out what tag I sent in?

There's two suggestions I have for this. Immediately, or beforehand, track your custom tag in the tumblr's search index. Custom tags go into the third tag slot, and should appear as a tracked tag. Save a text post in your main blogs drafts for what custom tags you have used for easy reference. It could also function as a master list of used custom tags if you also follow the below suggestion. Additionally, if you have other kin blog(s), save a draft of what custom tags you have used for that specific kintype or source. This is particularly useful if you're like me, and tend to save posts to your drafts for private reference. You could also send yourself an ask message of your custom tags to your main blog, or a sideblog that gets fewer ask messages on average. If you have forgotten your custom tag, I can only propose making a new tag and following the above suggestions, or perusing posted kinfessions of the relevant sources, character names, or topics like shipping issues, memories, poie issue, and so on!

#10 How do I use custom tags in a kinfession?

Simply type out your entire kinfession and then as [#custom tag] at the end of the paragraph. If your kinfession is in multiple parts, please add in 1/total number of parts at the end of the first kinfession parts. In the final part of the kinfession, please add 4/4, #customtag. That way you have more room to type, and I know that your kinfession has requested a specific custom tag. Here is a few examples of signatures, custom tags, suggested tags, and combinations thereof:

1) Anonymous asked: When I was a young baby, my parent took me to the city to see a marching band. 🔥🐍🔥 2) Anonymous asked: But it’s just the price I pay. Kintypes are calling me, Open up my eager eyes. ‘Cause I’m Mr Brightsidekin -💚TwinkleStar💚 #custom-tag-1 3) Anonymous asked: Well the world starts kinning and it don’t stop kinning. I made like a AU and hit the ground kinsidering. Hey now, you’re an starkin, get your game on, go play. [#customtag-1 #suggested-tag1 #suggested-tag-2]

The first example has a signature and no custom tag. The second example has a signature and custom tag, which will go into the tag used for the kinfession. The third example has no signature, one custom tag, and two suggested tags which will be used for the kinfession. To expand upon the above summary, here are the guidelines.

Custom Tag Guidelines:

Please refrain, for custom tags, the following: G1: Using a url, @url, or variations of urls using hyphens. Please check if your custom tag is in use before sending something in, otherwise it will be deleted under the assumption you’re trying to get around the 'no kin call’ guidelines. G2: Using slurs, ableist language, problematic terms, or words that can be easily mistaken for, or are variations of problematic terms. That is, 'idgit’ which is a variation to the ableist word 'idiot’. Or ‘chinkn-nuggers’ which can be confused for the anti asian slur and n word. G3: Using ship names, source names [eg marvel, gamora, mcu], or terms that fandoms or the general public use as search terms. G4: Using common search terms like full-moon, lightning, coffee shop, house-plants, etc. Simply to avoid clogging the House-Plant-blr tag, for instance. Notes: I cannot tell if multiple people happen to use the same emoji for tracking confessions. Please check ahead of time if it’s in use. If a blog starts using a custom tag for a URL, I might either stop using the URL or block the blog if they are non kin. It depends on the circumstances, really. Guidelines may be added or removed, depending on circumstances, and how well this custom tag stuff works out.
