i was going through my notes and found an old write-up from 2020 of modern au headcanons for "the charioteer" characters during covid-19 quarantine (back when "how would fandom X characters handle quarantine?" was a tumblr trend). apparently this was how i was coping with the stress of peak corona times, lol. anyway finally publishing this, three years later!

laurie: his introverted homebody ass is THRIVING in social isolation and wfh. no more awkwardly dodging party invites from people he hates, being dragged to nightclubs, or having to see his stepfather. he gets to stay home all day with ralph and their dog and finish all the books he meant to read, and he is LOVING it. receives a lot of requests to show off his dog during his work zoom meetings.

ralph: is Doing His Duty by staying home on furlough but also going completely stir-crazy. tries to stay sane by feverishly working on dozens of home improvement projects and cleaning the house several times. basically the epitome of that ben wyatt “do you think a depressed person could do THIS???” meme. has gotten into numerous arguments with people at the supermarket who refuse to wear masks or are hoarding enormous supplies of toilet paper (one of these ends up going viral).

andrew: is very sad about being separated from the rest of his religious community now that the churches are closed, but tries to keep a positive outlook on things. shares a lot of resources online about how to help out and staying in touch with one’s faith during “unprecedented times.”

alec: overworked and sleep-deprived nhs junior doctor directly taking care of covid-19 patients. hasn’t physically seen most of his friends or family in months. writes lengthy screeds on social media decrying the dearth of ppe for health care workers and ranting about politics. frequently gets into online fights with strangers who think coronavirus isn’t a big deal. sends ralph unsolicited articles about self-care and mental health tips during a pandemic that ralph pointedly ignores.

sandy: also overworked and sleep-deprived, but much better at concealing it online than alec. has a popular medical instagram where he posts selfies of him and alec with lots of hashtags. obsessively binge-watches cooking videos on youtube in his spare time.

bunny: an essential retail worker who brings this fact up constantly in conversation. secretly flouting social distancing guidelines on his off days to go to parties and hook-up with men on grindr. has the most aesthetically pleasing cloth masks but can’t bother to wear them properly.

Dancing Queen (Harry Hook x Reader x Uma)

(Y/N) finds themselves pulled into a Dress Code protest and ends up dancing on a table with Harry Hook.

"Here we go," Audrey muttered. You glanced at her and raised an eyebrow, perplexed, but she didn't see you. She was turned to watch the king's table, looking torn between exasperation and fondness.

You followed her gaze just in time to catch the movement from the table as several VKs - and the King himself - stood up. They'd been hidden by the table before, but everyone could now clearly see that the boys were wearing skirts. Totally acceptable, up to dress-code skirts... but Auradon Prep was notoriously gendered about the dress-code and these were skirts that would be acceptable under the women's guidelines. They weren't permitted at all under the men's.

As gasps and conversation echoed around you, you leaned toward Audrey.

"Do you know what they're doing?" you asked, keeping your eyes fixed to the table of the hour. Even so, you could easily make out Audrey's sharklike grin.

"Dress Code protest," she preened. "I helped Ben and Harry pick out their skirts, and Jane consulted me on the music choice too."

You realized what the music was just as the lyrics began and the boys began climbing onto tables.

Friday night and the lights are low~

Looking out for a place to go~

Whoops and cheers of delight start up and you joined in happily, cheering louder as the boys begin to dance on top of the tables. Queen Mal, Princess Ruby of Corona, and half a dozen other notable figures start climbing onto tables as well, the group quickly spreading out throughout the room as they jumped from table to table.

Getting in the swing~

You couldn't stop laughing. This was too good. Audrey was right there with you, laughing so hard you were pretty sure you saw her eyes watering, which only got worse as Harry Hook danced his way over to your table just in time to croon the next line along with Abba.

You come to look for a king~

He did something incredible with his hips in tandem with the line, drawing everyone's appreciative stares, before finishing a strut down the length of your table and turning to strut back.

Anybody could be that guy~

Night is young and the music's high~

You tore your eyes from the very attractive VK dancing above you to watch the others for a moment. King Ben and Queen Mal had ended up on tables next to each other and seemed to be having a bit of a dance off, to the delight of everyone. Across the hall you could just make out someone else - Jay, maybe? - pulling someone onto the table to dance with him when your attention was suddenly pulled back to your own table.

With a bit of rock music~

Everything is fine~

You're in the mood for a dance~

Harry pulled off several tight spins and struck a pose, throwing his head back and exposing the full length of his throat as his skirt flared. Then, he was looking down toward where Audrey had been a moment ago. You looked around too, surprised that you hadn't seen your friend move.

Everything that happened next happened very, very quickly.

And when you get the chance~

Harry reached down toward you. You blinked up in genuine bafflement, not understanding why the fuck he'd do that. You heard Audrey go "eep" and peripherally saw a blur of pink dash behind you. And then, suddenly, you had a famously recognizable hook tangled in the fabric of your collar and were being yanked up onto the table.

To say Harry looked more surprised than you were may be an understatement.

It didn't matter what just happened, though, you realized a heartbeat later. You were now a part of a gender movement and like hell were you gonna let the people down.

Harry took a slight step back, opening his mouth to say something, but you knew this song well enough to know you had less than a measure left before the most dramatic line and there was not a moment to spare.

You couldn't believe you were doing this.

You are the dancing queen~

Young and sweet~

Only seventeen~

Just in time, you grabbed Harry's hook, lifted it from your collar, and spun him like both your lives depended on it.

Oh yeah~

Audrey cheered so enthusiastically you'd be embarrassed if you had the focus to waste on such things. As is, Harry came out of the spin with his face flushed and eyes alive with an electricity as alarming as it was attractive.

Having the time of your life~

From there, instinct kicked in and you let it. Ballroom dancing has two very distinctive roles: Leading and following. The goal of the leader is to show off their follower. The goal of the follower is to be shown off and look fantastic.

You allowed yourself to lock in on Harry, and your world narrowed to nothing but Harry and the path of tables available to navigate. He synced up with you and allowed himself to be flaunted with an ease you'd never experienced before.

It was as natural as breathing. You'd always enjoyed leading just because you weren't a huge fan of trusting your peers to guide you as you go through the steps backwards - but this felt totally different.

You're a teaser, you turn 'em on~

Leave 'em burning and then you're gone~

Right now you had a fucking gorgeous specimen of humanity on your arm and nothing had ever seemed so important as making sure everyone saw how wonderfully his spinning skirt showed off his grace. That their attention was drawn to his hips; his waist; his chest. You wanted everyone to see the delight on his features and feel like they could never look away.

Looking out for another~

Anyone will do~

You're in the mood for a dance~

You guided him across several tables, enjoying the feel of everyone's eyes following Harry. Spinning, flourishing, sidestepping - he was brilliant.

And when you get the chance~

With a deep breath, you did something you never would have done if you'd thought it through ahead of time.

Harry was 6' of solid muscle and a complete stranger to boot... but your head was in the game and you could think of no more dramatic way to take Harry across tables than to do a lift. You just had to position him over there... and get yourself onto the other table with solid footing... hands firmly on his waist...

It wouldn't be until much later, in the privacy of your bed, that you allowed yourself to fully appreciate the look on Harry's face as you cleanly pulled off the lift.

He gripped your shoulders as soon as he felt you pulling him off his feet. Harry gasped into the lift, eyes fixated on your face, not glancing away once while he was in the air. By the time, only a moment later, that you had his feet securely placed on the new table, his eyes were half-lidded, ears red, and Harry was biting his lip delectably. Gods; he looked like you two had just done a lot more than dance.

Oh yeah~

In that moment, though, you just smiled back at him, pleased. Your instinct was 110% on the "show him off" setting and you only had one chorus left.

You can dance~

You can jive~

Having the time of your life~

Spin. Twist. Whirl.

Harry kept his hands on your shoulders, so you adjusted to a different dance step that would let him stay closer to you. It was more of an intimate step; more swaying of the hips.

You realized really quickly, though, that Harry might not be familiar with that dance step.

Instead of following you to it, he swooned in closer, wrapping his arms around your neck. You shifted your hands from his waist to his hips reflexively, but you missed your next step out of surprise as Harry started grinding on you.

That... was a bit more swaying of the hips than usually intended.

He kept up enough of a dance step to keep his skirt sashaying, leaving you to just keep the two of you traveling in small circles along the table and hold on for the ride as Harry clung to your neck and did lovely, wonderful, completely inappropriate things with his hips.

The song came to a close and the cafeteria erupted in cheers.

You broke out of whatever trance you'd settled into with just enough time to lift Harry's hands off your shoulders, forcefully spin him away a step, and trip one of his feet so you could drop him into a low dip. The surprise in his expression quickly shifted to delight, and he was laughing wildly as you helped him right himself a moment later.

The world around you continued to filter in as he lifted your hand to his lips and left a parting kiss - turning and strutting off once he'd let your hand drop. You watched him flourish his arms as he jumped down from the tables and wove his way back toward his friends, the cheering intensifying around him.

An Important Message from the Stop That Ninjas

Now that the Hogwarts Legacy game has been released, we wanted to give some clarification on how YFHA$ is going to handle Wizarding World content going forward, both here and in the Discord server.

To be clear: we strongly condemn JKR and the bigoted and imperialist themes present in her work. These concerns are present in the original Harry Potter books/movies, post-canon sources such as Pottermore, and the newer releases such as Fantastic Beasts and Hogwarts Legacy. We stand with the LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities, among others, against these harmful behaviors. If you disagree, you are not welcome in our space.

Now for the housekeeping:

Both our blog and Discord have always been discourse-free zones. The bolded statement above is our official position. Any further commentary, either in our Discord server or in our Tumblr mentions/asks, will be deleted and those commenters shall be blocked. This is to protect our mental health as well as that of the people who follow us for anti-Autism $peaks catharsis.

We are still putting together a final rule as to whether we will continue to accept flag requests from the Wizarding World franchise, as well as what to do with any requests that may be in our inbox. We have a massive backlog from before Corona that we are still working through. I just want to point out the fundamental craziness of claiming Hussein and Rajwa were out and about in the USA or Europe during 2020/2021... dont you guys remember Miss Coronavirus? Now, people claim Rajwa was living in Jordan during Rona and visiting hospitals? Hbbty, she doesn't live in Jordan nor visits hospitals as his wife... of course she didn't do it as his girlfriend.

Same for all the claims of Hussein and his teenage (?) girlfriend living up in 2020/2021 in Abu Dhabi...Like that is only accurate in a parallel universe where the world wasn't placed in lockdown. Please do not forget that during this time frame Haya, Hussein's aunt who received protection from the Jordanian government, had to run away from the UAE FEARING FOR HER LIFE. Do you guys really think the UAE government was going to give the protection to the CP of Jordan to not only ignore Corona guidelines but to go over there and live his romance while Shk Mohammed was being publicly slandered by HUSSEINS LITERAL AUNT?

The only thing I believe to be true is Rajwa´s family had some reservations about the wedding -makes sense then that Rania went all out for Azza and called her a gem, protects Rajwa SO MUCH, and extended that protection to her sister Dana who wasnt photographed or mentioned during the wedding festivities.

Differences in cervical cancer screening guidelines around the world

When looking for information about cervical screening* I noticed that the guidelines differ from country to country, and that even supposedly reliable sources offer rather inconsistent and often contradictory information. The point of this ‘survey’ is to find out more about the cervical cancer screening recommendations (and gynecological care in general) around the world, and to start an open discussion about this. The questions and more info are under the cut.

Reblogs are welcome but I realize this is a sensitive topic. If you don't want to publish this post and your answers on your blog, answering the questions in the comments is more than enough. If you want to respond anonymously, you can put the answers in my ask box.

1. Where do you live?

2. What is the recommended age for starting cervical cancer screening (also called pap smear, smear test, or cervical cytology) in your country?

3. Is cervical cancer screening in your country recommended for people who have never had any kind of sexual contact? Is it recommended for people who have never had penetrative vaginal intercourse?

4. What information about hymens** have you been taught in sex-ed class, biology class, or told by healthcare professionals? Do doctors in your country try to avoid tearing the hymen during exams if the patient has a small hymenal opening (for example using smaller instruments)?

5. Have you ever been pressured into a gynecological exam or procedure that you didn't want or didn't think you needed?

6. Have you ever been discouraged or prevented from getting a gynecological exam or procedure that you thought you needed?

* Cervical cancer screening, pap smear, smear test, or cervical cytology is a medical test that examines a sample of cells from the cervix (a part of the uterus that protrudes into the vagina) and often helps detect pre-cancerous or cancerous changes early enough to treat. A speculum or a similar instrument is used to visualize the cervix; and a brush, a cotton swab, or a similar instrument is used to collect cells from the ectocervix and the external cervical os.

** The hymen (also called the hymenal ring or the vaginal corona) is a thin piece of mucosal tissue that surrounds or partially covers the vaginal opening. In the past it was often assumed that hymenal tissue always tears and bleeds during the first intercourse, which is of course an inaccurate and heteronormative overgeneralization. The thickness and elasticity of the tissue, and the size and shape of the opening (or sometimes multiple openings) are extremely diverse. Some hymens are fragile enough to tear during completely non-sexual activities, such as sports, some can gradually stretch out or wear down with tampon use, some can accommodate even penile penetration without tearing. Some people with vaginas are born without any hymenal tissue at all, and on the other side of the spectrum there are hymens that can't even let menstrual fluid out of the vagina so a surgery is necessary to create a sufficient opening. Some people don`t experience any discomfort when the hymenal tissue stretches or tears, while others feel significant pain.

Possibly an odd question here, but do you know why there isn't a vaccine for FIP? It seems like, since FIP develops from a mutation of FCoV, being vaccinated against FCoV would prevent it - especially if the vaccine is not a live vaccine type and has no risk of mutation. Have vaccines been tried, and found to have low efficacy? Is it possible that the development of human Covid vaccines could lead to an FCoV vaccine?

There is a FIP vaccine.

The FIP vaccine is a very controversial product and is currently not recommended by the WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association). See full page of their vaccine guideline here.

This is why the vaccine is not widely available. It is available here where I live (which I would not recommend it as a routine vaccine, but we can stock the product when there is an order.). I’ve been told that it’s not available in the US. This is consistent with the fact that the AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) agrees with the stance that the FIP vaccine is not recommended.

This is because the feline corona virus is everywhere in most colony of cat. The non-mutated version of Feline Corona causes only a mild sickness that they can recover from on their own. Most cats that live with other cats are infected with it and has mild gastrointestinal signs then get better.

There is a chance that the virus within a cat would mutate, and only that cat WITH the mutated version will get the FIP disease. The cats that the vaccine would work on are cats that are completely naive, as in, the cat must had never been infected with any version of the virus, ever, in its life. The chance for that is very low.

FIP vaccine also often cause false positive on an antibody test for FIP virus, making diagnosis of actual cases more complicated (not that it’s not already complicated, but you get my point, right?).

In conclusion: You are absolutely right, cat that are vaccinated against FCoV would prevent it, but only if that cat had never been exposed. And it is very difficult to prevent a kitten from being exposed until they’re 16 weeks old.

Nothing happens for happens by coincidence just like TikTok saying my video violated their community guidelines. "Illegal Activities and Regulated Goods," now they're bending their own rules just to make up violations at this point.

This is why White people are banning abortion, they're dying more. Their birthrate are tanking vs their death rates which is higher. This is why they're trying to kill as many Black Men as possible, this is why they're also polluting the Planet, this is why they created Corona. This is their Swan song we've always been the majority it's their end game. I predict once we are in the power position, dismantling their system there will be some race traders who'll protect them within this new system. We have to look at this as a power vacuum once the whole system and those in power have died out everyone else will be fighting to gain a foothold within that power vacuum. It'll be civil war, we as Black people no matter what our beliefs will have to stick together against all others including the sellouts. I say this because White people's death birth ration will only continue to climb. They'll be looking to relocate out of the US to countries where there is a higher number of them in order to escape the revenge they believe we will seek. Thus we will have all White nations against us but they'll first let us fight amongst ourselves during a civil war and once we are weakened they'll come in and without a struggle take over. Thus we mustn't be divided and stick together as one people, and gain a foothold within the newly formed system.

Description:

Shortly after its establishment, the precarious location of the Maclnir Commonwealth meant its leaders sought ever better defences. Even as the Nilgaard Feifdom’s territories were fortified and saw huge urban renewal programs, the Commonwealth’s leaders sought a means to defend its small fleet of JumpShips after attaining a heavily damaged YardShip for its use. Hoping to repeat the Taurian Concordat’s famous Concordat-class Heavy Frigate design, the Exodus was constructed to be fast, hard hitting, and allow for the rapid deployment of DropShips onto enemy targets.

Initially utilising the Suffren as a guideline, the result was a semi-effective Frankenstein design that nevertheless met their intended goals. Fast, durable, and capable of engaging targets at vast ranges, the Exodus was nevertheless a costly investment even for a Warship. Difficulties in combining tech of various origins meant that the ship’s internal systems were often temperamental, and the design still struggled to keep pace with ship development of larger powers.

The ship is still in use now, with the first in service while a second is close to completing construction. However, efforts to refine the design means that it will likely soon fall by the wayside in favour of either designs emulated from other powers or upgraded builds.

Armament

The Exodus was intended to arrive in warzones and actively engage targets while supporting orbital assaults. To this end, much of the ship’s arsenal has been built with extreme range engagements in mind. A mix of prow-mounded naval PPCs and AR-10s allows the ship to offer heavy far reaching bombardments, while both its armour plating and considerable array of AMS systems deal with returning fire. Even so, the mix of medium-range weapons such as Gauss Rifles further bolsters its firepower against targets that close the distance. Steady point defence efforts from missile launchers further deters aerospace attacks, with many of these situated about the spinal DropShip launch areas.

Three aft-mounted launch bays are situated toward the back of the vessel, situated away from the primary engagement angles of the Exodus, and allowing for the rapid launch of its additional support craft.

Capacity

The Exodus has three primary cargo bays, utilised to hold thirty small craft along with a full marine battalion.

The ship is typically accompanied by a combination of Stingray aerospace fighters, Hrothgar-class DropShips (the blueprints of which were attained thanks to a munitions and information trade with unknown parties), and Duat-class DropShips recovered from the Inner Sphere.

This is the third sort-of Battletech related piece I've churned out, and the first on a ship. While I didn't plan upon going down the Special Snowflake route with the Maclnir Commonwealth, after the deeply flawed but semi-effective design of the Siege Perilous, I felt that the leaders would push to make WarShips ASAP. So, as a result, here's something they'd likely churn out given their technological edge and industrial base. A frigate built with the intent of hitting hard, taking hits in return, and outrunning anything of a similar tonnage that it can't outfight. Along with adapting existing designs and any tech I could justify them having, I tried to set it up as something that would be highly effective on paper, but would have a few severe design flaws that might force it to be retired after a time.

After all, just because they've got an edge in terms of knowledge and resources most in the Deep Periphery currently lack, it doesn't meant they'll get things right the first time.

I imagine after this they'd probably end up looking into Pocket WarShips to help bulk out their early fleet, like the Word of Blake's Interdictors, in another ironic twist given their origins opposing that group. Still, that will have to be done at a time I can focus upon setting out and adding another chapter into their story.
