Virginia’s attorney general opened a probe into a pro-Palestine nonprofit Tuesday, including to determine if the organization used funds to benefit “terrorist organizations.”
“Attorney General Jason Miyares today announced that the Office of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section has opened an investigation into AJP Educational Foundation, Inc., also known as American Muslims for Palestine, for potential violations of Virginia’s charitable solicitation laws,” a news release from the Miyares’s office reads.
“The Attorney General’s Office has reason to believe that the organization may be soliciting contributions in the Commonwealth without first having registered with the Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services,” the release continues. “In addition, the Attorney General will investigate allegations that the organization may have used funds raised for impermissible purposes under state law, including benefitting or providing support to terrorist organizations.”
The probe comes in the midst of the current conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights group, condemned Miyares for the probe in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, calling it “dangerous and defamatory political posturing.”
“Our legal team is in communication with @AMPalestine to help protect their rights,” the post continued. “Targeting Muslim and Palestinian American organizations with baseless and irresponsible smears threatens the safety of their staffers and the communities they serve. From the #McCarthy era to the Civil Rights Movement to the post-9/11 years, we have seen politicians use this playbook before. These witch hunts will not stand, God willing.”
CAIR said last week that the number of Islamophobic incidents since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict earlier this month has drastically risen. It said it had received 774 complaints and reported incidents of bias since Oct. 7, when Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel, the largest number of complaints in a similar period since former President Trump announced plans for a Muslim ban in 2015.
“Anyone with a conscience should be deeply concerned by this sudden rise in complaints amid an atmosphere of rampant anti-Muslim bigotry and anti-Palestinian racism,” said Corey Saylor, the research and advocacy director at CAIR.
I don't know anything about this charity. But what I do know is that pro-Palestinian protestors have been arrested. People who posts about Palestine on social media are getting fired.
I do not trust Miyares, and I wonder how long before any charity that provides aid to Palestinians is investigated.

June 15, 2023 – SHOWTIME has announced that the acclaimed drama series BILLIONS will return for its seventh and final season streaming on Paramount+ with SHOWTIME on Friday, August 11 before making its on-air debut Sunday, August 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. Starring Oscar®nominee and Emmy®winner Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll and Maggie Siff, the 12-episode final season also marks the return of Emmy® winner Damian Lewis as fan-favorite Bobby “Axe” Axelrod.

Since its premiere in 2016, BILLIONS has been one of the most watched signature series on SHOWTIME, year after year. As previously announced, SHOWTIME is in the process of expanding the BILLIONS universe with several projects in development, all executive produced by BILLIONS showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien, who have established their own acclaimed brand of propulsive storytelling and articulately incorrigible characters. Paul Schiff will also executive produce the new projects in this franchise.

The Masked Singer: S11 E9 (Group B Finals/The Soundtrack of My Life)
I’m watching tonight’s episode on a delay, but I have taken care to avoid spoilers before watching.
As always, I post before watching any unmaskings, so don’t take my guesses as spoilers.
Beets 🍠: I’m still pretty sure this is Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken from American Idol. We see Banana Split 🍌 🍨, who were revealed to be Katharine McPhee and her husband David Foster in a previous season. Katharine is a former American Idol runner-up, and she actually met David while he was mentoring her season’s contestants for a competition round. (They did not become a couple until much later, after both of them had gone through divorces.) Both Ruben and Clay are dads, Ruben has children with his current wife and Clay had a son through IVF with David Foster’s sister both providing the egg and carrying the pregnancy. (His son’s middle name is Foster as a nod to her.) We see a clock with a thumbs up and the time seems to read between 12:40 and 12:45. We see a knight figurine. One of the Beets is teaching his son to drive, which about lines up with the age of Clay’s son (who was born around 2008, if I remember correctly, before Clay publicly came out as gay). Clay is the Beet with leaves on top, while Ruben is the Beet with no leaves on top. The performance has pyro befitting an American Idol coronation performance. 🥰 The bonus clue: They have a connection to host Nick Cannon, having a “Wild Night”. Either they appeared on Wild & Out or they might have done an interview with Nick. I’m still sticking with Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken.
Seal 🦭: A zombie poster, a schooner with a heart on the sail, has been called a “bad boy” since day one. A calendar with Friday circled. The bonus clue: He has a connection to judge Jenny McCarthy, and the record reads “House Call”. He might have appeared frequently on her talk show. I figured this was maybe Corey Feldman last time, and his rapping in this performance sounds a lot like Corey Feldman’s speaking voice. So, I’m sticking with Corey Feldman.
Gumball 🍬: My guess last week was that this is Derek Hough. Piglet and Queen of Hearts were featured in a video game he’s playing. A yellow model car marked with an X. His song is “Carry On Wayward Son”. Maybe he’s connected to Supernatural? He says he has no formal training in singing. He says he moved around a lot as a kid. The bonus clue: He has a connection to judge Ken Jeong, and says Ken was part of one of the funniest jobs Gumball has ever had. I don’t think this is Jack Black, I’d recognize his voice. I’ve seen some on the internet say this is Scott Porter, and I think of the judges’ guesses Jenny’s guess of James Marsden sounded the most plausible. So, I’ll go with either Scott Porter or James Marsden. This one has been a tricky one to figure out.

BOOK REVIEW: THE CRUCIBLE
Book Review: The Crucible

Rating: 3/5 - This book was alright, it got a bit confusing at some points, but still an interesting read

Taking place during the Salem Witch Trials, The Crucible is a play that revolves around an incident where a group of girls were caught dancing in the woods. One thing leads to another, and the girls who were caught dancing start to accuse other people in the town of using witchcraft. Accusations are hurled at many characters, and the story ends off with a trial involving severe punishments. “The Crucible” was written during the era of McCarthyism during the 1950s. During this time, people were in paranoia of communism and if there were any slight references to communism, they would be reported and detained by the police.
I believe that this book is ok at best. There is a lot of allegory to the McCarthy era of the Cold War, but the only character I enjoyed throughout this story was John Proctor and Giles Corey. At the end of the book, these characters stand out against the injustice of Abigail. Overall, this short play had some shortcomings with the plot, everything unfolded a bit too quickly, but the movie made it more visually appealing.

Christiana Perri - Humans - “Humans” goes into depth about human vulnerability and the downfalls some of the characters face in this book. In this book, a lot of characters face judgment and this song conveys vulnerability.
David Guetta - Titanium - This song resembles the death of Giles Corey and it conveys John Proctor as a martyr. Proctor stays true to his beliefs and strengths even in the moment before death.
Rachel Platten - Fight Song - This song is known for its empowerment. As the town has to deal with these terrible accusations being hurled at some characters, other characters must stay resilient and pray that they get through this catastrophe.
Billy Joel - An Innocent Man - This song perfectly pertains to Abigail blaming Proctor even though he is innocent.
Imagine Dragons - Demons - The powerful emotional parts of this song can be related to Arthur Miller’s crucible
OneRepublic - Secrets - This song and The Crucible have some things in common. One would be the theme of deception. This song reminds me of some interactions that John Proctor had with Abigail before the trial took place.
Frank Sinatra - Witchcraft - This song perfectly captures Abigail’s thoughts during the trial and before the trial. Falsely accusing people of using witchcraft, but this song would be directed towards John Proctor.
Radioactive by Imagine Dragons - This song complements the death of Giles Corey, as he is being crushed by stones.
Halsey - Castle - Both Halsey’s “Castle” and The Crucible have themes of defiance. The characters in The Crucible defy the accusations made against them, often making sacrifices to tell their truth.
Andrew Gold - Spooky Scary Skeletons - This song isn’t very serious, but I felt that the theme of witchcraft needed some type of halloween song to complement it.
