“So he went to the war for reasons beyond knowledge. Because he believed in law, and law told him to go. Because it was a democracy, after all, and because LBJ and the others had rightful claim to the offices. He went to the war because it was expected. Because not to go was to risk censure, and to bring embarrassment on his father and his town. Because, not knowing, he saw no reason to distress those with more experience. Because he loved his country and, more than that, because he trusted it. Yes, he did. Oh, he would rather have fought with his father in France, knowing certain things certainly, but he couldn't choose his war, nobody could. Was this banal? Was this so unprofound and stupid?”

The Masked Singer: S11 E8 (Group B Returns/Girl Group Night)
This week sees the final Wildcard enter the competition. I am watching on a delay tonight (been watching the Atlanta Braves game against the Miami Marlins), but I have managed to keep myself from seeing spoilers.
As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so don’t take these guesses as spoilers.
Miss Cleocatra 🐈: A snake, a domino with 5 dots on it. Photos of Bette Midler and Whoopi Goldberg. Is apparently an inspiration to Michelle Obama…and her mother. Definitely sounds like an older woman, but I can’t place who it is. The bonus clue: “Stop! (in the Name of Love)” by The Supremes. Could she be a member of The Supremes? I don’t think this is Diana Ross. I think both the judges’ guesses of Loretta Divine and Jenifer Lewis are good guesses, though. I’m officially stumped.
Beets 🍠: I immediately thought this was Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken in their first performance, but will the clues and a second performance confirm it for me? One Beet calls himself “the ladies’ man” and the other calls himself “the tough guy”. Well, Clay’s fanbase (mostly women) called themselves the “Claymates”. We see a sprig of mistletoe. I believe Ruben and Clay have previously done a Christmas album or Christmas tour together. We see a boarding pass. A menu and a castle made of bread. I can still recognize Clay’s voice from a mile away all these years later. The bonus clue: “Weak” by SWV. They say they made their audience “weak” in the knees on Broadway. Ruben and Clay did a Christmas-themed show on Broadway. So, yes, I’m sticking with Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken.
Gumball 🍬: A set of angel’s wings. His wife has a disease that will impact her later in life. A crescent moon and a globe used as a bowling ball. It’s been a while since I’ve seen his previous clue package, so I can’t remember his previous clues. The bonus clue: “Don’tcha” by the Pussycat Dolls. Perhaps he knows Nicole Scherzinger? Nope, he says he starred in something with Channing Tatum. I think Derek Hough was the best guess here, as his wife recently suffered a health crisis and he has also done some music with his sister Julianne Hough and their friend and fellow dancer Mark Ballas.
Seal 🦭: Our final Wildcard of the season enters the competition! A treasure chest, perceived as a “wild child”. He says he’s been on some posters on teens’ walls. Was part of a famous group. He’s not that bad of a singer, but doesn’t necessarily sound “polished”. He could be a comedian or maybe somebody from “Jackass”. The bonus clue: “BO$$” by Fifth Harmony. Says he’s got a boss like Steven Spielberg. I think Jenny’s guess of Corey Feldman sounds the most accurate. He was a wild child, part of The Goonies, who search for a treasure. And Corey has released some music. His voice isn’t the most polished, but singing is something he likes to do. I’ll go with Corey Feldman.

The Masked Singer: S11 E7 (Group A Finals/Queen Night)
Tonight, one celebrity will be crowned the Group A winner and go on to the quarterfinals, the other two will be unmasked.
I’m watching on a delay tonight, but have done my best to avoid spoilers. As always, I post before seeing unmaskings, so don’t take my guesses as spoilers.
Ugly Sweater 🧶: Says he inspired everyone from Snoop Dogg to Nirvana. Worked with Tupac. We see a sweater with the 🙏 emoji as well as an ingot of gold labeled “24K”. We see a crying 😭 emoji. His voice still isn’t immediately recognizable to me, but given how many people he’s been an influence on, he’s probably an older singer. I think the internet consensus has been Charlie Wilson from the Gap Band, so I’m tempted to go with that. The bonus clue: Bicycles labeled “Nick”. He says he gave Nick “dating advice”, and considering Nick has about a dozen kids, Nick didn’t forget, either! 😂 Robin seems to think this is Charlie Wilson, too. (The 24K clue seems to confirm it, too, as Charlie was a guest performer on Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic tour.)
Starfish ⭐️: She replaced someone who got fired from a project. A white rabbit toy. Could be a reference to either Joey Fatone (Rabbit in Season 1) or something related to “Alice in Wonderland” or the Jefferson Airplane song “White Rabbit”. The bonus clue: a magician pulling a card reading “Jenny” from Nick’s ear. She says she offered Jenny tickets to her show. So she might be a standup comedian? Ken seems to be going with the internet consensus, Kate Flannery from The Office. I’m not incredibly familiar with that show. I’m stumped.
Goldfish 🐠: The internet consensus is Vanessa Hudgens, I’ve been thinking it’s Carly Rae Jepsen. A map of an island with a question mark on it. She lost her “number 1 supporter”. A witch’s hat. A poster with a rose on it. The bonus clue: “Galileo” bringing a scroll reading “Ken”. She says she’s worked with Ken. It didn’t sound like Hilary Duff. Rita seems to think it’s Vanessa Hudgens, as she lost her father just before she was due to perform in a live TV adaptation of Grease. I think Goldfish ends up winning Group A, so I don’t see her being unmasked just yet.

The Masked Singer: S11 E6 (Group A Returns/Transformers Night)
Another Wednesday, another episode of The Masked Singer! Tonight Group A returns to the competition and if I remember correctly, we get a new Wildcard entering the competition. There is a double elimination this week. As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so don’t take my guesses as spoilers.
I’m watching on a delay, but have done everything I can to avoid spoilers.
Starfish ⭐️: We see record sleeves with Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, and Green Day. We also see a fishbowl with a “Teachers Lounge 🍎” sticker on it. The word “LIVE” in neon lights, which could possibly mean she was on Saturday Night Live. I’m kinda leaning towards Molly Shannon, but let’s find out what the bonus clue is. The bonus clue: Starfish has earned awards as part of a talented group. It’s either someone from SNL or an ensemble sitcom. I’m sticking with Molly Shannon for now.
Ugly Sweater 🧶: His wife is on the cover of a magazine called “Crochet Couture”. A silver jet plane, he apparently topped the charts and she had no clue who he was. Opposites attract, eh? The bonus clue: He spends his time wisely and got a lifetime achievement award. I have no clue who this is, but I think the judges’ best guess is Charlie Wilson from the Gap Band.
Lovebird 🦜: Says he hid in plain sight and the world got to know him as somebody he wasn’t. Seen waving a checkered flag, indicating he won something. A golden birdcage containing a golden container of popcorn. (That could indicate he won an MTV TV & Movie Award.) He says he’s helped people “from courthouses to White House’s”, so perhaps he’s an activist? Possibly a well-known LGBTQ rights activist? I’ve seen some people suggest this is Colton Underwood from The Bachelor (who came out as gay a few years after his season aired), but I don’t know if that lines up with the popcorn. I also considered Lance Bass, but the vocals don’t quite line up with Lovebird’s. The bonus clue: Has made television history before. I’ll go with Jenny’s guess of either Nick Viall or Colton Underwood, but I don’t know if the clues line up either way.
Goldfish 🐠: A snow globe with a Christmas tree. A vampire bat. And it sounded like she said “mum” instead of “mom”, which I think could indicate she’s from Canada (as it’s common in some parts of Canada for people to refer to their mother as “mum”). A police siren. Says she’s seen her exes everywhere and her romance turned into TikToks. The bonus clue: Put her heart, soul, and tears into her work. I’m still leaning towards Carly Rae Jepsen, but Rita’s guess of Nina Dobrev could also work, as Nina is Canadian (she was on Degrassi before becoming famous in the United States for The Vampire Diaries).
Koala 🐨: A sticker with the abbreviation “CO” (the postal abbreviation for Colorado). A championship belt with the Sun on it. A cattle skull with a tiny hat, a white rose with a captain’s hat. On the first listen, my gut says it might be Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino), but let’s see what the bonus clue says. The bonus clue: He’s on a shortlist with some of the greatest of all time. Could be an athlete, possibly Von Miller (who played for the Denver Broncos). But he played relatively recently. I’d say the best guess from the judges, though, actually came from Ken: Deion Sanders. (Although I don’t think there was any mention of his time playing baseball with the Atlanta Braves.) But I think I’ll stick with Deion Sanders for now.

The Masked Singer: S11 E5 (Group C Finals/Shower Anthems Night)
It’s time for the Group C finals, which will determine which singer becomes the Group C Champion and which two get unmasked…unless the judges use their one save across all three group finals. As always, I post before watching any unmaskings, so don’t take my guesses as spoilers.
Clock 🕰️: The clues: a shirt with a candy heart reading “sweet”, a gold record and she says she worked with Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole. (Both of those celebrities have passed away.) There’s also an alarm clock reading “Wake Up”. The candy heart has me thinking of a song called “Sweet Love”, which was recorded by Anita Baker and was a huge hit in the 1980s. The bonus clue: a rubber ducky with the name “Nick” printed on the bottom. She says Nick has hosted her before. She could have appeared on Wild & Out or possibly on his radio show. I think the voice kind of lines up with Anita Baker, so my guess is Anita Baker at this time.
Lizard 🦎: We see Dragon 🐉 (who was Busta Rhymes in a previous season), a picture of Justin Timberlake. If this is Sisqó, as the internet consensus seems to be, the “Dragon” is a reference to three of his albums, which have “The Dragon” in their titles, but especially his debut solo album Unleash the Dragon. (He has also been a member of the R&B group Dru Hill.) The bonus clue: A bunch of loofahs rain from the ceiling. A gold loofah has a tag reading “Rita”, saying he and Rita have both won an “out of this world” award, possibly referring to the Moonman from the MTV Video Music Awards. Sisqó won a VMA for Best Hip Hop Video in 2000 for his hit single “Thong Song”. I’m going with Sisqó.
Poodle Moth 🐩 🦋: The clues: Her family sold her childhood home, we see a picture of a house with a sign reading “3” on it. The bonus clue: a soap on a rope reading “Robin”. She says she’s worked with his dad, the late Alan Thicke. Some have been suggesting this is Kelis, but my mind keeps going back to Trisha Yearwood. That Grand Ole Opry clue keeps coming back to me. I’m sticking with Trisha Yearwood.

The Masked Singer: S11 E4 (TV Theme Night/First Wildcard Enters)
Tonight’s episode sees Group C taking the stage again and they’ll be joined by the first Wildcard contestant of the season. As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so don’t take these as spoilers.
I am watching on a delay, and I’ve done everything I can to avoid spoilers.
Clock 🕰️: My initial guess last week was Bette Midler. We see a map with the Mississippi River highlighted. Also a motor, and a picture of her two children. She’s been married more than once. Whoever she is, she sounds pretty good for being an older lady. The bonus clue: A love boat, two things that combine to make a hit. I think Robin’s guess of Stephanie Mills is a good guess. And some of the commenters online have suggested this is Anita Baker. What I do know, though, is that I think I can cross off Bette Midler as a guess.
Poodle Moth 🐩 🦋: My initial guess last week was Trisha Yearwood. A lighthouse. She either lost her dad or her dad left the family. I see drama masks 🎭 and a jar of fireflies. I think Pepper 🌶️ (Natasha Bedingfield) would be happy with this performance. The bonus clue: “Where You Lead” (the theme song from Gilmore Girls), which was performed by Carole King. Perhaps she’s appeared on Gilmore Girls? That would seemingly rule out Trisha Yearwood, although Trisha has done a handful of acting roles, including a recurring role on JAG. I’m sticking with Trisha Yearwood for now.
Lizard 🦎: My initial guess was Johnny Gill from New Edition. Apparently got an opportunity to become an animator, but decided to become a singer instead. Clues: cowboy boots, a lizard doll. The bonus clue: A Great Dane (Scooby-Doo’s breed). He says, “A dog helped me reach a bigger audience.” I’ve seen some people suggest that this is Sisqó, who was in a movie called Snow Dogs in addition to his music career, and the cowboy boots are a reference to that celebrity country singing show Gone Country. I’m switching my guess to Sisqó.
Sir Lion 🦁: Our first Wildcard. Not to be confused with Lion from season 1 (who was Rumer Willis). Clues: An anchor, cutouts of Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks. A hot air balloon with Jerry Seinfeld’s face on it. And a picture of Rockefeller Center, which is NBC’s New York City Headquarters. I think he’s worked as an anchor for NBC News. I was thinking Brian Williams at first, but I think the voice and the clues line up with Billy Bush. He’s worked for NBC as well as a journalist covering celebrities. The bonus clue: A bone reading “co-star”. He says he co-starred on “a different TV show with Betty Rubble”. Rosie O’Donnell played Betty Rubble, and I think Billy Bush may have appeared on The View while Rosie was a host. I’m going with Billy Bush.

My two favorite lines from this scene:
“I’m 37…I’m not old!”
And
“Help, help! I’m being repressed!”
(I just turned 37 over the weekend, so I ended up watching the movie just for that scene.)

Monty Python - Repressed Citizen
Citizen: Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses not some farcical aquatic ceremony. You can't expect to wield Supreme Executive Power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you! Well if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some moistened bent lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away.
King: Shut up!

The Masked Singer: S11 E3 (Group C First Round/Billy Joel Night)
Four new Masks give their first performances tonight. As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so don’t take these guesses as spoilers.
Poodle Moth 🦋: Seen holding a cowboy hat, a book with an American flag on it. Says, “You only need to be discovered once.” Sounds like she might be an R&B or soul singer, but the cowboy hat could mean she’s a country singer or experimented with country music. I can’t pin her age, she might be middle aged. Bonus clue: A home run ball reading, “Opry”. This means she’s performed at the Grand Ole Opry. I think Trisha Yearwood is a pretty good guess. The voice sounds about right and the American flag could refer to her song “American Girl” (which is also the theme song to her Food Network show).
Clock 🕰️: A disco ball, had the whole world dancing. Clock stopped at 6:00 and says they performed for a President. Was seen spinning a golden globe. (Possible Golden Globe winner?) Definitely sounds like a woman, possibly one who became a star in the 1970s or 1980s. Just on first impressions, she sounds like Bette Midler, but I’d need more clues. The bonus clue: the Billy Joel song “Vienna”. She says, “Vienna is all about seizing the day, and I have a date in my name.” Diana Ross was also a good guess. I am officially stumped, though.
Spaghetti and Meatballs 🍝: Says they started on Wall Street. There’s a toy race car. He dances too young to be Billy Joel. 😂 My intuition is thinking this might be an actor who’s also dabbled in music and possibly race car driving. Let’s see what the bonus clue is: A giant pizza with “show time” written in pepperoni. He’s spent a good portion of his time on a hit show. I’m also stumped here. Just a wild guess, but I’ll go with Jason Priestly for now, as he’s dabbled in motorsports.
Lizard 🦎: Perceived as a ladies’ man. We see a heart-shaped lollipop. We saw a Crab 🦀 (which I think was Bobby Brown in a past season). Could he be one of Bobby’s New Edition bandmates? I’m leaning towards either Ralph Tresvant or Johnny Gill. The bonus clue: A taxi cab with a postcard reading “Billboards”. I’m thinking this has to be someone from New Edition who isn’t Bobby Brown. (And I believe spinoff group Bell Biv DeVoe also had a number one hit with “Poison”.) I’ll go with Johnny Gill, just based on the voice.
