A New Chapter
As we enter the spring season, I am filled with gratitude for your continued support and enthusiasm for my art. Exploring the world as a painter is truly an incredible journey and one that has led me to embark on a new chapter filled with inspiration and adventure.
I'm excited to share with you that I have embarked on an artistic pilgrimage to France for nine months! France and Europe have long captivated my inspiration, ever since I went to art school here as a young student. Now I have the opportunity to immerse myself fully in their rich cultural tapestry. I arrived in February and soon after went to Venice for the installation of my work for the biennial exhibition "Personal Structures".
Behind the scenes in Venice !
I am overjoyed to have been selected to be featured in “Personal Structures - Beyond Boundaries”, the European Cultural Center’s 7th edition of the Biennial Contemporary Art Exhibition in Venice. This coincides with the prestigious 2024 Venice Biennale. The show officially opens next month and will run until November. This is an extraordinary honor and a dream come true for any artist. I cannot express how humbled and grateful I am for this opportunity to showcase my work to a global audience.
See my "Sneak Peek" blog here of arriving in Venice and the installation. It's been such a lovely whirlwind!
I am truly excited to share this journey with all of you. As the exhibition draws nearer, I will keep you updated on the details and behind-the-scenes insights into the creation of my featured painting. Your support and encouragement mean the world to me, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for art with such an amazing community.
Very Warmly, Karen

David Guez Art
The evolution of David Guez’s work begins with a predominant sun burning through thick clouds shattering an already fragmented groundscape. The blazing sun then becomes a small red presence in the background, a distant metaphor – a beacon, undiscovered planet or drone signaling a new order. This lasts just a short time until disruption enters again with porous boundaries; the red dot is an indefinable mass, a smudge, suggesting disarray and leakage from all corners. Guez’s story resumes again when he returns with the red protagonist, albeit now magnified. An amorphous speck floats where the piercing sun was in earlier works. Orbit lines appear and define it in space as a tactile relevant force.

Fire suppression p.1 & p.2: “Flame Retardant” & “Building Potential” Inspired by the PEM's ‘Our Time on Earth’ exhibit
I was gladly surprised to see the exhibit’s various optimistic installations, especially the building materials of the future. As a forestry student I am beginning to understand our relationship to our forests differently. In the US, forest policy which aimed to suppress wildfires has contributed to a century-long build up of fuel that would otherwise have been cleared by controlled burns or small spontaneous ground fires. Indigenous peoples shaped the forests of the Americas to require these controlled burns. More and more I realize that indigenous knowledge and collaboration is a necessary part of the stewardship of future. A concept which is present at large at the museum but also specifically within Our Time on Earth. Getting a ‘sustainable’ amount of lumber from our forest still disregards the health and purpose of these trees to a diverse and complex ecosystem. It is essential that we diversify our building material, to include carbon-negative things like mycelium! Natural resources that are close by, and at hand in our local environment, which doesn’t require chopping down a tree 3000 miles away and transporting it to the US. We need local resources whose collective cultivation lead to a sense of community and collaboration. A better future!
My thanks to lane.m.artin for collaborating with me for p.2!

My painting "Zol Siv'kor Azoktha (The Azurite Sigil)" was recently featured in Propeller Gallery's occult themed show "Back to the Grimoire", curated by Lex Barrie.
Last night was a lovely opening reception filled with many new faces in the community.

Remember when we hosted Gaia for a while? Jerram has returned and is exhibiting his other piece, Museum of the Moon, in this old hall near our flat. It’s a pretty installation and a great excuse to lie on the bench and stare at the ceiling of the painted hall for a while.

Abstract art has been around for more than a century, but it remains one of the most intriguing forms of art today. A variety of movements–color field, suprematism, abstract expressionism and more–have emerged since its foundation. The mystery and unconventionality that surrounds abstraction offers a unique space for viewers’ questions and interpretations, which is likely why abstract art continues to captivate audiences around the world. The art world has been buzzing with anticipation for upcoming abstract art exhibitions that promise to be nothing short of fascinating. If you want to discover the best of abstraction, prepare your itinerary, as there are several must-see shows that are taking place this year.
