Colorado State Capitol, Denver (No. 2)
A major safety upgrade project, funded by the Colorado State Historical Fund, was started in 2001 and completed in 2009. The design by Fentress Architects added modern safety features, like enclosed stair towers, that blended in with the original architecture. The Colorado Capitol Building is featured on many of Denver's architectural tours.
Serving as the beginning of the Capitol Hill district, the historic building sits slightly higher than the rest of downtown Denver. The main entrance hall is open 180 feet (55 m) to the top of the dome, about the height of an 18-story building. Additionally, the official elevation of Denver is measured outside the west entrance to the building, where the fifteenth step is engraved with the words "One Mile Above Sea Level". From this step, at 5,280 feet (1,609 m), the sun can be seen setting behind the Rocky Mountains. A second mile high marker was set in the 18th step in 1969 when Colorado State University students resurveyed the elevation. In 2003, a more accurate measurement was made with modern means, and the 13th step was identified as being one mile (1.6 km) high, where a 3rd marker was installed.

Got Danes?? part 1
Just in.....
We have always had Great Danes as long as we have been married. I suspect it has to do with me in the beginning and a “manly” image. We have had all of them neutered but our first, as we don’t breed for them.
After our first one, we just couldn’t even look at another breed. They are so loyal, fairly intelligent, and their size keeps strangers honest.
I do own guns. Not a lot, but my favorites. Patti will not handle a gun, even if her life depended on it. This may sound possibly more “gun” ambitious than the norm, But you need to realize, we live in a rural area not 200 yards from I80 (a main drug trafficking avenue across America)
Great Danes fit the bill, several times for her. People off the interstate, do not wait for me to come home...... so Danes.
Our first one was Thunder (about 1977). We didn’t have kids yet. He was a Merle (gray based with black spots). Being he was our first we had his ears cropped.
Cropping.... is an ugly thing to do to these wonderful dogs. It took us 2 Danes before we quit. Thunder had his done, and when I picked him up, that vet didn’t even clean him up, and pretty much just tossed him out the door at us. All bloody, weeping and gross. I got to admit though once they healed, they were beautiful.
Thunder being raised with no kids initially, was huge. I pumped him full of vitamins. And extremely smart... lots of time to train with no kids early in his life. I can’t prove it, but pumping him full of vitamins as a pup, he was our largest muscular Dane.... he stood over 36 inches at the shoulder, and weighed in at 225 as an adult. He was a monster to see. He could drag me (at 190 pounds) around the yard, and not breath hard.
I’d go outside to get fire wood, and he’d insist on coming along to bring in his piece of wood too. He always insisted on fire wood missions, helping get cut pieces to the truck. Couldn’t get the chainsaw out without him being a pest.
He was an unsung hero too. One warm winter evening, I took the garbage out, and of course he was with me. Our street (in town Waverly) was dark, one street lamp. Thunder stood at the property line, and kept looking down the street. I ignored him, until it was time to go back in.
I turned and he wasn’t there, but trotting down the street to my neighbors front porch.  WTH??
I kept calling him back, to no response. I ended up going down to my neighbors porch where he was... and there was the lady of house laying on the porch. She was elderly, and had taken her garbage out, and had fallen. Thunder had heard her, and came to her aid.... giving her big licks up her face.
Of course I picked her up, got a couple bandages, for scrapes. Thunder came in, also attending to her. She was so grateful, and for ever after loved Thunder. She loved to tell the story of him coming to her aid. Especially reenacting him slurping her face.... i highly suspect before this incident, she probably was terrified of large dogs.
Once we had kids...  There was no way, no stranger could get ever close to them .
There are other cool stories about him. He lived the ripe age for a great Dane of 11. Life expectancy on average for a Dane is 8.
With our 7th one now, if you were to average the ages out, 8 is pretty close to factual.
Second one we got when we moved out to the acreage. Gretchen. She adored Josh (my youngest son). She was a bit moody compared to our previous Male Thunder. But good natured. And she was our last for the cropped ears.
She was a Mantle (almost all black except for white chest and toes).
One of my favorite memories of Gretchen was she loved to pull on Josh’s pointed top of his overcoat. Once she pulled on it, she’d back up fast and hard, with Josh’s feet swinging straight out, as she pulled in circles. Josh would just giggle and giggle all the while.
Shortly afterwards we got Gretchen,  we got Brutus as a freebie, a mixed Dane. He was the size of a tall Labrador.
Gretchen died while we were on vacation in Colorado. Of a twisted bowel. Our house sitters felt horrible. It was a very sad situation when we got home, as we buried her that same day. House sitters (Bill and Michelle Cita) helped bury her, and crying the whole time. “Dogs die Bill, it wasn’t your fault” Gretchen died so suddenly with that twisted bowel, at less than 4 years old.
Twisted bowels are a possibility with Danes, more so than most dogs. Rule of thumb, larger the animal the greater the chance (cows, horses, etc... included) We found this out the hard way.
Brutus, who was still young, took Gretchens death very hard. Went into mourning hard... something we hadn’t seen before. And became completely out of control.
Once we figured it out what was going on, he became another great dog for us. Lived to 8 or 9. He was brown with long haired tail and a black mask. We just had to figure him out.
Next was Norton. Norton was a Merle and Mantle mix. We got him from a very poorly ran “rescue”. Place was a mess, but we just couldn’t leave him there.
Norton was the best attitude Dane we owned. He was afflicted with  every allergy a dog could get. Human dander, cedar trees, beef, corn, you name it he was allergic to it. His paws would turn bright red and swell, his ears would swell up like water balloons. ....
Vet got him on Prednisone, and all his issues went away for some time. BUT he also put on over 50 pounds.... And which was just plain fat. Weighed in also at 225.
Now with a dog in such dire circumstances of health issues, you’d think he just be mean or give up. That dog didn’t have a mean bone in him. Always polite, and distinguished. Easy to train, and handle. Until he passed, you could always count on him being a good dog, no matter what was up.
We also shortly after got Gertie. We had 2 Danes again. Gertie came from a web site, advertising all sorts of noble quotes and accomplishments. The lady wouldn’t let us come down to the “great Dane farm” and insisted on delivering her. At the time we took her, all seemed very good. Gertie was also a Mantle.
Although Gertie turned out to be a pretty good dog, we suspect she had been abused, and was a “runt” of sorts (around 125 pounds as an adult). She couldn’t stand human feet near her, or brooms, which she snapped at.
She also had some sort of Irritable bowel syndrome. Anytime she’d get all worked up over something, you’d have to be prepared.
Another issue she had, that we found out when she died was that she had a hip issue. To this day we aren’t sure if it was hip dysplasia. While she was alive, she hated walking on any slick surfaces. She’d go into a full roaring panic, and you’d have to drag her across the floor.
When we had her put down, her hips were limited movement by I’d guess at least 50%. When she was alive, you really couldn’t tell, as shed run thru the yard like any other dog and fast.
Gertie also got the “twisted bowel” event. But this time we knew what was going on, and she was saved via emergency surgery.
Gertie made it about 5 - 6 years.
These were some great Great Danes. But there is more.... look for Part 2

Loser Buys Dinner (Lindsey x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: team goes to an ice rink and the reader is really good at ice skating and the team didn't know. you can add a pairing if you want
Author’s Note: Special Thanks to @literaryhedgehog!!! Also this one has a slightly awkward ending, but we thought it fit.
You stared at the sign as Kelley brought the car to a park. Ice Town skating rink blazed in neon letters as the outline of a skate seemed to circle around them. Around you, you heard the chattering of your teammates as they registered where you had come for today’s team bonding activity. They at least were excited. You unbuckled your seatbelt and followed Rose out of the car, still not taking your eyes off the neon image circling around your vision. It was fine. Today would be fun.
“Hey fun size, you excited?” Lindsey bounced up to walk at your side. You flicked your head slightly to clear your thoughts and turned to smile quickly at her.
“I guess. It’s definitely been a while since I’ve ice skated.”
“Don’t worry,” Lindsey said grinning, “I’ll stay with you the whole time if you’re worried about falling.”
“I won’t fall,” you said matter of factly. Lindsey raised an eyebrow. Before she could challenge you to a competition that she would lose, you said “if anything I’m worried about you. If you fall you’ll get frostbite.”
If Lindsey was concerned about the cold, she didn’t show it. She was from Colorado and was quite used to the terrible temperature. While Kelley had instructed everyone to wear layers, Lindsey was only wearing a jacket and flannel over a pair of skinny jeans. She grinned at your comment and shrugged. “I’ll be fine. What’s it going to be, like 30 degrees?”
“Yes. That is literally the temperature ice freezes at.”
“It’s just your California blood that makes you chill faster,” she smirked, elbowing your side.
You rolled your eyes at her and entered the building. As the smell of the ice rink washed over you you inhaled deeply through your nose and exhaled through your mouth, intentionally relaxing the muscles that had tensed up at the memories the smell elicited. You still felt your spine straighten from habit, but chose to ignore it.
“Are we sure this is a good team bonding activity. Like what if we break our legs before the game?” Rose asked, strapping a skate on her foot. She had always been the clumsier of the team.
“We ran it by the coaches and they signed off on it so long as we’re all willing to be serious. Looking at you Sonnett. No fooling around on the ice. There are walls to hold onto if you feel unbalanced Rosie, but it’s a good chance to practice our flops if you feel like you’re going to fall. Remember- fall back and protect your head.” Carlie said with a grin.
“And then you want us to roll on the ice for the pretend ref?” Lindsey asked, quirking her eyebrow up at the ludicrous implication. There weren’t going to be any hands going near any skate paths.
“The pretend ref would assume you were throwing a temper tantrum if you did since NO ONE will be skating at each other,” Beckey said, looking up from tightening her skate to catch the eye of each troublemaker on the team.
Emily frowned, there went her idea of trying to joust with their umbrellas.
“You alright?” Lindsey asked, sliding her hand along your lower back.
“Yeah,” you said, looking at the rink logo imprinted in the center of the ice.
“Well you’re kinda blocking the entrance to the rink,” Lindsey said very close to your ear, sending a shiver down your spine. When did she get so close to you?
You blinked away the feeling of a spotlight and thousands of eyes in your back to look back at her. Then you grinned slowly, “Just… creating some anticipation.”
“I know you Californians probably don’t know much about moving on the ice, but you’re not supposed to just stand and stare at it,” she said, kissing your cheek. “just remember that I won’t let you fall,”
You raised your eyebrows at her, then turned around fully to face her, still blocking the entrance intentionally. “Wanna make a bet Linessie? Because I think you’ll fall more than I do today.”
“In your dreams short stuff,” she snorted, refraining from saying that she had fallen for you already.
“You taking the bet or not?” You said, a little louder this time so that you caught the attention of Emily and the rest of the youngins.
Linsey’s grin grew to match your own, “I’m always game, you know that,”
“Loser has to eat like Carlie for a week?” You proposed, sticking out your hand for her to shake.
“Hm, those stakes aren’t high enough. Loser has to eat Alex’s weird vegan shit for a week,” Lindsey said, her lips ticking up at your scrunched nose.
“That would be cruel. I’m not doing that to you. Loser pays for winner’s Costco run?”
“I think you’re just scared you won’t be able to eat ice cream for a week,” Lindsey scoffed, crossing her arms.
“Okay, I tried to go easy on you,” you said, shaking your head dramatically. “If you’re willing to eat like Alex for a week, I’ll take that bet.”
“You’re on pipsqueak,” Lindsey shook your outstretched hand, squeezing it a little too tightly.
You grinned at her and holding her gaze stepped backward onto the ice, crossing one foot over the other to gain speed as you glided to the center of the floor.
It felt natural, as though the last 12 years had only been 2. You did a quick counter turn, letting the muscle memory carry you over the ice. You did a twizzle and grinned. Not too shabby.
“Holy fuck,” Lindsey said, her jaw dropped as you glided effortlessly across the ice. So much for her plan to be your hero on the ice. Your protector from the cold.
“Shoulda pretended you were the terrified one,” Emily snickered, bumping her lightly as she passed her. You may be oblivious to Lindsey’s feelings, but the rest of the team was not.
Lindsey shook her head and skated off after you, not as smooth on the ice as you were, but pretty damn close. She had always preferred hockey over figure anyway. She easily caught up with you, skating relatively close behind you.
You saw her and turned, arabesqueing a leg into the air behind you. Then you leaned into a tight camel spin so you looped around Lindsey as she moved.
“You forwards are always such show-offs,” Lindsey rolled her eyes, catching your outstretched hand once both feet were back on the ice and pulling you close to her.
“Cause diving headers and Bicycle Kicks are totally not showing off either,” you said, scrunching your nose at her.
“How did a Cali girl like you learn to skate?” She asked, moving so she was behind you again, holding your waist as you skated.
“Some way most girls who don’t live in a frozen wasteland do,” you said, shrugging. “I took lessons.”
“Wasn’t action-packed enough for our little firecracker?” Lindsey questioned and you could practically hear her eyebrow ticking up.
You fought to keep your smile normal. “Believe it or not, there was a time when I wasn’t a firecracker and didn’t like being the center of attention.”
“Not a firecracker, impossible. I’m pretty sure most defenses are terrified of you, especially after you made that English defender pee her pants when she went after Mal,” Lindsey carefully pulled you into her chest resting her head on your shoulder, mindful that you two were still hurtling along the ice.
You grinned. “Well, she deserved it.” You leaned out to the side then in again, pulling you both into a gentle spin. “But yeah, around middle school I dropped out of skating. My partner for pairs skating broke his ankle skateboarding and,” you paused, trying to find the words to explain, “I just really didn’t like singles.”
“Is it bad that I’m glad he got hurt? Cause now I get to be your pairs partner and you never have to be single again if you don’t want…” Lindsey mumbled, glad that you weren’t facing each other. She wasn’t sure she could have looked you in the eye and finally shot her shot.
“Well, I am known for being a damn good team player, even if I am a showoff,” you nudged Lindsey playfully. “But I refuse to eat vegan for a week. I need my chocolate icecream.”
“Well,” said Lindsey with a dramatic sigh, “how about we amend the bet. Loser pays for dinner on the first date?”
Lindsey waited just a second for your agreement, enjoying the feeling of you in her arms, and then she gently pushed you away. You slid easily across the ice, turning just in time to see Lindsey “trip” and fall to her knees.
“Guess I’m buying,” she said smirking up at you, her blond hair framing her face.
“It’s a date loser,” You smiled so wide, your pink cheeks started to hurt.
“You’re supposed to flop backward, Linds,” Carlie called across the ice.

9x01: I Think I’m Gonna Like it Here
Errm, we forgot a season opener episode...so here’s 9x01 for your enjoyment :)
Then:
Tumblr media
Heaven’s doors closed, kinda
Now:
Sam and Dean are on the road discussing the fallen angels, and how they’re going to tackle this new situation. Well, Sam is. Dean keeps driving until he tells Sam they have a far more pressing matter than that, or Metatron, or Cas. “You’re dying, Sam.”
Indeed he is. They’re not in the Impala. They’re in a hospital and Sam’s attached to a bunch of wires and machines.
Tumblr media
The doctor gives Dean the bad news that Sam has severe internal injuries and his recovery is “in God’s hands.” Lol, it REALLY is. And ol’ Chuck isn’t going to let one of his favorite characters die! He does like to see them tortured though. Dean loses his shit, because, at this stage in the game, God isn’t playing.
He goes to the chapel AND PRAYS TO CAS.
Tumblr media
He tells Cas that whatever happened, they’ll work it out. “Please man, I need you here.” Dean looks up and is shocked that Cas isn’t there. AND I’M EMOTIONAL. He has so far to go. But also, I feel so bad for him right now. Anyway, he gives it about 5 seconds before he puts out an open call to any angel willing to help.
Business angel, Tractor angel, and Helo all take the call.
Memory Lane Alert:
Tumblr media
Sam continues to have a mental conversation with Dean in the Impala. Dean has a plan, and Sam just needs to hang on. Sam thinks he’s lying (and LIKE, is this his brain trying to rationalize death? Bobby shows up to argue yes.)
In Longmont, Colorado, on a lonely stretch of road, we find Cas. He’s walking and is overwhelmed with angel radio whitenoise.
For Cas Looks So Fucking Good In This Episode Science:
Tumblr media
Also, a crazy driver that nearly kills him. The guy offers to give him a lift to a phone. Cas agrees, adding, “I would fly but I have no wings, not anymore.”
I need a  moment.
Sam continues to deteriorate. I enjoy the snark in Sam’s mind that he saved Bobby from Hell. Anyway, Bobby and Dean continue to argue about whether Sam should or shouldn’t live. Bobby pulls Sam from the car and they land in a forest.
Cas’s ride drops him off at a filling station and gives him some money. Cas accepts it reluctantly, insisting he does eat. Meanwhile, a woman watches Cas from a car.
Cas reaches the pay phone, currently in use.
Tumblr media
He doesn’t want to hurt the guy, but this is an emergency. The guy is very polite when he tells Cas to try and hurt him. Cas tries the old fingers to the forehead trick. Nothing happens. He tries the old whole hand to the forehead trick (isn’t that usually a smiting move? <nervous side-eye emoji>) The guy brushes Cas’s hand away and tells him that he’s going to finish his call, and then stab Cas. Cas walks away in a daze.
The woman from the car approaches him. She knows Castiel. She’s an angel named Hael.
Tumblr media
A grief counselor comes to talk to Dean, but he’s not done fighting.
Tumblr media
He realizes that he has the King of Hell in his trunk (not yet you don't ...I think I’ve used that joke before, but it never gets old.) Before he can get Crowley out of the Impala’s trunk, Business angel attacks. He’s looking for Castiel. Dean isn’t talking. Helo pops up and gets into fisticuffs with Business angel. He distracts him enough for Dean to stab Business angel in the back. Helo assures Dean that he’s here to help him, and then passes out.
Hael and Cas talk about the angels falling and life in Heaven. So many angels are afraid of this unknown new order.
Tumblr media
Cas assures her there is nothing to be afraid of, and there is something better on Earth. Oh, you poor Humanity loving fool, Cas. He makes a case for Free Will.
Dean puts Helo in a ring of fire to interrogate him. His name is Ezekiel. And he is not here to hurt Dean or Cas. He’s here to help.
Sam and Bobby take a nature walk while Bobby chips away and Sam’s uncertainty of dying.
Dean brings Ezekiel to Sam.
Tumblr media
Dean’s phone rings while Gadreel examines Sam. It’s CAS! Insert EXTREME HEART EYES HERE.
Tumblr media
Cas briefly explains that Metatron tricked him, but Dean overrides Cas’s discussion of the angel apocalypse for a more pressing matter: Sam’s dying. Cas explains that he can’t heal him without his grace, but that also doesn’t matter! Ezekiel is a “good soldier,” according to Cas, so Sam’s in good hands. Dean warns Cas that angels are after him and he needs to get to the bunker, do not pass GO, do not trust anybody else.
The hospital shakes as another angel circles a vessel. Dean grabs a dry erase marker and starts scrawling angel warding all over Sam’s hospital room. He leaves Ezekiel there to heal Sam while he races through the hospital trying to clear it out.
Cas tries to extricate himself from Hael’s company. “This is your chance to help people. Help yourself.” Cas, you altruistic sunflower! Hael rewards this by whacking him across the head with a plank.
Tumblr media
When he wakes up, Hael explains that she couldn’t let Cas go. She blames Cas for the fall but she can use Cas…
Dean confronts angels in the hospital, including the now-possessed grief counselor.
Tumblr media
In Sam’s head, he arrives outside a cabin. Bobby tells him that the cabin will end his life and wishes him well when suddenly he is STABBED! Sam’s projection of Dean killed him. “Bobby was the part of you that wants to die,” Dean explains...uh...reasonably? He starts to punch Sam in rage, trying to get him to fight for his life. “I can’t help you if you ain’t willing to fight for yourself!” Sam...knows that. And...he’s not willing to fight anymore.
Sam heads for the cabin.
Real Dean is in his own pickle. Grief counselor angel hauls him around, demanding to know where Cas is or Sam’s gonna die bloody. Dean refuses to give up Cas. He’s bloody and exhausted, but blasts the angels out with a banishing sigil. He heads in to check on Sam. Ezekiel sits slumped in a chair. Between the banishing sigil and the warding, he’s incredibly weak and can’t heal Sam. There are “no good ways” to save Sam so Dean, being Dean, asks about the bad ones.
Tumblr media
Ezekiel thinks he can save Sam by possessing him, but Dean knows that Sam would rather die than be possessed. Ezekiel brings Dean into Sam’s head so he can see how bad it is.
Dean witnesses Death talking to Sam. Death tells Sam that he played a good game! Sam asks for a boon from Death: he doesn’t want to come back. At. All. He doesn’t want anybody else to get hurt because they tried to save him. SAM BBY!
Tumblr media
Dean “There’s Another Way” Winchester is appalled.
Cas is still trapped with an angel Heaven-bent on possessing him. He looks around at the tools at hand. An angel blade. An angel new to cars and driving. He puts on his seat belt. (Side bar: is this the first time any of our heroes has EVER put on a seat belt???) Cas hauls at the wheel, steering the car towards concrete barriers.
At the hospital, Dean unpacks the proposal. Ezekiel possesses Sam and they both heal together. When Sam’s better, Ezekiel leaves.
In a wrecked car, Cas wakes up from his second head injury in an hour or so. He unbuckles his seatbelt and stumbles out. Sprawled ahead of the car is Hael. She’s looking...really bad with her body snapped in some really unfortunate ways. Cas swears to help her - and all the angels. It’ll be his life’s work! “I’m one of you. I will never stop being one of you!” She tells him all the angels despise him. BRB weeping!
Tumblr media
He tries to walk away, but she vows to reveal him to the rest of the angels if he leaves her. Cas kills her to save himself. So…...first day as a human? Not going super great.
Sam prepares to die. Dean stops him from leaving the cabin! (Dean apologizes to Death for not bringing cronuts. I forgot those were a thing!) Sam wants to know why Dean is even there. “You gotta let me in, man. You gotta let me help! There ain’t no me if there ain’t no you.”
Tumblr media
Sam says….yes to being saved. Dean transforms into Ezekiel and light fills Sam’s head.
Outside the hospital, Dean and Ezekiel walk and talk. Ezekiel reports that Sam’s in super rough shape. He also suggests that Sam not be told he’s possessing him. If Sam knows he’s possessed, he’ll expel Ezekiel and then die. Dean’s not happy with that plan, but he agrees to hide the truth from Sam. Adding icing to the cupcake of betrayal, Ezekiel promises to erase Sam’s memories of almost dying in the hospital. Oh dear.
Cas winds up at a laundromat. He’s bloodied and injured, and I guess these are just...normal laundromat experiences? It’s really sad! Unlucky Cas!
Tumblr media
But I’m getting ahead of myself because the laundromat experience is also THIS. Lucky us!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cas loads his clothing into the washer, but he has very little money. He steals clothing and uses his change to buy something to eat and drink instead.
Tumblr media
In the car, Sam wakes up slowly. Dean asks him how he feels. Sam gets the dollar recap of the angels falling and NOTHING ELSE PERTINENT. Sam’s ready to jump back into the fight and Dean feels G R E A T about it.
Shirtless Quotey:
This one goes out to any angel with their ears on. This is Dean Winchester and I need your help
I would fly, but I have no wings
Let's go see the Grand Canyon, then
Anybody ever tell you you hit like an angel?
There ain't no me if there ain't no you

Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley, killed in grocery store shooting, celebrated in public funeral “This is part of that bravery, in that, rightfully so, everyone in that store that fateful day … was trying to get out,” Father Dan Nolan, parochial vicar at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Littleton, told mourners, including the slain officer’s family and scores of law enforcement officers. “But some were trying to get in. It was all of you — officers, lawmen, law enforcement. Going into harm’s way, going into the mouth of hell. And one did not return. So this is for you. “That is a risk every day you put on your badges and take that risk. A day like any other day. Officer Eric Talley put on his badge, put on his uniform, put on his duty belt, not knowing that would be the last time.” Nolan read a poem written by Talley’s children for Christmas in 2019. It began, “Dad, our unsung hero. You never count the cost Whatever we need is never too much But our praises have not been enough…” Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold remembered that Talley became a cop at the age of 41 after a career as an IT professional. “Eric didn’t need to become a police officer,” she said, “but he felt a higher calling.” His bravery and quick action, the chief said, saved dozens of innocent lives a week ago. Sgt. Adrian Drelles, Talley’s supervisor, said the officer’s children are “a direct reflection” of their father. “His kids are living legacy of Eric’s impact on this world,” Drelles said. Talley’s children “gave him comfort” as he broke the news of his death to their mother, Drelles said. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis recalled Talley’s sacrifices, large and small. “Officer Talley gave his life just as he lived it: in the service of others,” the governor said. “Although it will be painful, it’s also a joy to remember Officer Talley for who he was. It’s a sign of a life well lived when you’re beloved like Officer Talley.” After the service, the flag that draped Talley’s casket was gently folded. A final ceremonial “end of watch” broadcast was made in honor of the officer. A bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace” could be heard after a 21-gun salute outside the large church. Earlier, members of the Colorado Emerald Society Pipes and Drums played as Talley’s casket was carried into the church. Law enforcement officers left blue roses nearby before stopping briefly to salute their fallen colleague. A procession and motorcade preceded the memorial service at Flatirons Community Church for the fallen Boulder police officer, husband and father of seven who was known as a prankster and who loved “family more than anything,” in the words of his father, Homer. Along the route, Coloradans and visitors from other states gathered, bundled against temperatures in the lows 30s. Some waved American flags and saluted under cloudy skies, according to news footage. “There are not enough people supporting our our officers,” Angela Stephens, who flew from Kansas City to pay her respects, told CNN affiliate KMGH. “We all need them. We need the police. “ Holding an American flag, Stephens added, “I wouldn’t miss this for anything.” Talley had been a Boulder police officer since 2010. When the call came a week ago Monday about a man wielding a weapon at the grocery store in Boulder, the 51-year-old Talley was the first officer on the scene. And he was the final person shot in the rampage, according to police. Talley and nine other people were killed when, according to police, suspect Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa opened fire at the crowded King Soopers store. President Joe Biden last week offered his condolences to the families of the victims of the Boulder shooting, and singled out Talley’s heroism. “I commend the exceptional bravery of Officer Eric Talley,” he said. “I send my deepest condolences to his family. His close, close family of seven children. You know, when he pinned on that badge yesterday morning he didn’t know what the day would bring. I want everybody to think about this.” The President added, “But when the moment to act came, Officer Talley did not hesitate in his duty, making the ultimate sacrifice in his effort to save lives. That’s the definition of an American hero.” No one, other than Talley, was shot once he and other officers started engaging the gunman at the King Soopers store after witnesses called 911, Boulder police said. Talley was “willing to die to protect others” and embodied “everything policing deserves and needs,” Herold said. Talley and his family were in the police chief’s office about three weeks ago as one of his sons accepted an award. The officer had taught his family CPR, and his son used that skill to help save a family member who had swallowed a quarter, Herold said. Talley was the first Boulder police officer to be killed in the line of duty since 1994 and the sixth on-duty death in the department’s history, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Last Wednesday, hundreds of Coloradans lined the streets as a hearse transported Talley’s body from the coroner’s office to a funeral home in Aurora. Many placed their hands over their hearts and some held American flags. Public safety vehicles joined the long procession. Talley’s patrol vehicle, which was parked in front of the police station last week, became a shrine as mourners left flowers, wreaths, cards and other mementos in his honor. Boulder Police last week used Talley’s handcuffs to formally place the shooting suspect into custody at the hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound, police said in a tweet Thursday. “This week several Boulder Police officers & others responded to a local hospital to formally place Monday’s shooting suspect into custody,” police said in the tweet. “As they did, officers informed him the handcuffs used that day were those of Officer Eric Talley. The suspect was then taken to jail.” CNN’s Chris Boyette and Konstantin Toropin contributed to this report. Hundreds gather to pay respects to fallen Marine MONTROSE, Colo. —The father of a Marine killed in Iraq told about 300 people gathered at a memorial in a high school gym Monday that his son knew the risks that went with serving his country. Lance Cpl. Chad Maynard, 19, died Wednesday in Ramadi, Iraq, when the Humvee he was driving struck an improvised explosive device.“ When you take the oath, you always know the possibility exists,” said the Marine’s father, Gene Maynard, who himself is a former Marine who served in Vietnam. “It’s just too bad. I think the world was a much better place with him in it.” Friends previously described Maynard as an invincible, natural leader who lived and breathed the Marines. Gene Maynard previously said his son began pestering recruiters years before he could join until they told him to stop. Chad Maynard’s brother, Jacob, will accompany the fallen Marine’s body to Colorado, where a funeral is being planned in the Denver area. “We thought he was the guy that nothing would happen to,” friend Tom Sramek said Friday upon learning of Maynard’s death. Hard rock purveyors HELLYEAH are home after an 18-city “A Celebration Of Life” headliner, honoring the life of bandmate and brother Vinnie Paul, a tour during which friends and fans in HELLYEAH’s heavy metal family mourned and celebrated their hero together.
With less than a month until the release of their sixth studio album, Welcome Home, due Friday, September 27, via Eleven Seven Music, the band announce today the release of “Black Flag Army,” the final instant download track available when you pre-order the album HERE. WATCH/SHARE “Black Flag Army” HERE, on E7M YouTube Friday, September 13.
Their eagerly anticipated new album, Welcome Home, which features the late Vinnie Paul’s final recordings, will unleash 11 tracks, driven by their love, loyalty, reverence and respect for their fallen brother, including “Black Flag Army,” fiery track “333,” Top 5 Active Rock single “Welcome Home,” which is the band’s fastest-growing song at Active Rock Radio, guitar-driven “Perfect,” and gritty “Oh My God.”
Unfortunately, the band had to cancel a short run of tour dates due to guitarist Tom Maxwell’s trigger finger, detailed in the full statement below.
The surgery will not affect the band’s November and December U.S. and Canada headlining dates, starting on November 15 in Cincinnati, OH, through December 19 in Phoenix, AZ.
The band will continue to honor their late bandmate by donating a portion of ticket sales from each tour date to the American Heart Association in Vinnie Paul’s memory. Tickets and full routing are available HERE.
In addition to this initiative, HELLYEAH will host a TEXT TO DONATE campaign during each of their upcoming tour dates. Fans can TEXT ‘VINNIE’ to #41411, or head to a special CrowdRise page where they can also DONATE to help fight heart disease, as well as read more about the American Heart Association and HELLYEAH’s interview with them HERE.

EMBRACING HER HEART
Leaving New York City and returning to her hometown to teach a screenplay writing class seems like just the break Grace Montgomery needs. Until her sisters wake her at four thirty in the morning to watch the hottest guys in town train wild horses and she realizes that escaping her sisters’ drama-filled lives was a lot easier from hundreds of miles away. To make matters worse, she spots the one man she never wanted to see again—ruggedly handsome Reed Cross.
Reed was one of Michigan’s leading historical preservation experts, but on the heels of catching his girlfriend in bed with his business partner, his uncle suffers a heart attack. Reed cuts all ties and returns home to Oak Falls to run his uncle’s business. A chance encounter with Grace, his first love, brings back memories he’s spent years trying to escape.
Grace is bound and determined not to fall under Reed’s spell again—and Reed wants more than another taste of the woman he’s never forgotten. When a midnight party brings them together, passion ignites and old wounds are opened. Grace sets down the ground rules for the next three weeks. ANYTHING FOR LOVE
After Charlotte Sterling loses her last family member, she moves to Sterling House, her family's Colorado mountain inn, to live a solitary life. As an erotic romance writer, her days and nights are filled with passion and intrigue-even if only fictional. She loves her busy, quiet lifestyle, and she learned early on that real men can't live up to the fictional heroes she creates-until ruggedly handsome Beau Braden arrives to do some work at the inn and, for the first time in forever, she's intrigued by a real man.
Beau lost his first love years ago, and he's never let go of his guilt over her death. As he nears the anniversary of his loss, he is on the cusp of becoming the star of a home-renovation reality show. Escaping the painful memories of his past to work at the defunct old inn is just the promise of solitude he needs to clear his head before diving in to the all-too-public career. But he didn't count on being attracted to the whimsical, adorably sexy innkeeper.
Neither Charlotte nor Beau is looking for an attachment or a fling. But the more they learn about each other, the closer they become. Romantic evenings lead to intimate conversations, and neither can deny their deep connection or the passion it sparks. They've never fully healed on their own, but together maybe anything is possible.

TRAILS OF LOVE
When Graham Braden travels to Oak Falls, Virginia to attend the wedding of his buddy Reed Cross to Grace Montgomery, he sticks around to help with renovations to Reed's new theater. The last thing he expects is to be asked to assess and possibly invest in Grace's sister Morgyn's business endeavor. Graham is a careful, keen businessman, and Morgyn is impulsive, disorganized, and more interested in the energy flow in her eclectic retail shop than in the accuracy of her records. While Graham isn't ready to open his pockets to the sassy, sexy business owner, he may be ready to open his heart.

MAKING YOU MINE
Knox Bentley never liked the pomp and circumstance that came with being wealthy. He’d distanced himself from his pretentious family and their fortune as a young adult and found his own path to success. But even with the world at his fingertips, he realizes something is missing, and after a long stay overseas, he finally knows exactly what it is. His no-strings-attached hookups with Aubrey Stewart, an exquisite and stubbornly independent blonde, are no longer enough for him. They connect on every level, but Aubrey is a fierce businesswoman with a new movie channel on the horizon and no time for much else. She is the deal he can’t close, the precious jewel even his billions can’t buy. Now that he’s back in the States, he’s determined to show her that what they have goes beyond the bedroom and finally make her his. Love in Bloom novels feature alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They're flawed, funny, passionate, and relatable to readers who enjoy contemporary romance and women's fiction. For avid readers of the Love in Bloom series, you may have met sexy and hilarious Knox Bentley, Graham Braden's business partner, in Trails of Love, and Aubrey Stewart, one of the badass billionaire founders of the Ladies Who Write (LWW), in Anything for Love.
