the graham norton show has been a dream since you started acting, you'd hoped to one day make it on and know that if you did, you'd have officially made it.

not only were you on the show with timmy, but cher, julia roberts and tom hanks. to say you were shaking in your boots was an understatement. back stage you were jumping around after spending some time with the guests. that time had been spent mainly at timothee's side and laughing when appropriate, because you just couldn't believe you were there with them. timothee just laughed, trying to ease your nerves even if he to was scared. in the end, he bounced with you.

you sat on the end of the sofa, next to timothee as the guests ran down the other end.

'and some stars we have on the sofa, look at them at the end. world premier of wonka!' celebrated graham.

you and timmy nodded, thanking the applauses.

'but it wasn't just the world premier, you filmed it over here?' he asked.

'yea we made it in leavesden, very close to here, we shot it almost entirely in london and er- as i always say- i feel like an honorary brit now,' said timmy, glancing at you as he called himself a brit.

you bite back something between a grimace and a smile.

'it was about six of seven months,' he continued, 'it was absolutely joyous as an ignorant yankee.'

'you guys drive on the other side of the road,' joked tom hanks.

'and welcome, at the end there being very quiet,' said graham gesturing to you.

'yea, hi!' you grin, taking a sip of your drink as the audience laugh.

'you're from here, aren't you?'

'yes, british. but it was still really nice to film in london and bath for a lot of it.'

'i can imagine and because, is it right, you were filming for the hunger games whilst you were filming wonka?' he asked. a picture of your poster for the hunger games flashed on the screen and timmy led the applause, whooping.

his attention was only focused on you. his eyes watching every movement, his lips curling up, arm around the back of the sofa.

'thank you, thank you. immediately after filming wonka i got a plane to poland to start filming for the hunger games, yea. literally still in costume for wonka on the plane, i-i got some looks.'

the crowd laugh.

'let's talk about that, hunger games, number one movie!' graham celebrated as everyone clapped.

'thank you, thank you- there we are,' you smile at the picture of tom and you in your characters in the zoo scene. you chose not to notice of timothee shifted around and coughed at the picture.

'and, is it true you did your own singing in that?'

'yes, well i do in wonka too, but for the hunger games it was live. you know, i play this character lucy-grey who's part of this covey band and they all sing so i did it all live on set. then recorded it for the soundtrack separately. this is boring to explain, but-' you said, laughing and fiddling with your rings nervously.

'she's fantastic in the movie,' said timothee, putting his attention on graham and his hand on yours to stop the fiddling. 'i remember working with her in wonka, it was just so much fun, she brings a sort of ... breath of fresh air into it, even though it's a light-hearted comedy, she still makes that difference. and i saw the hunger games, its so cool to be able to see her in an element that i'm not familiar with. but i can still see how she plays the role and how she plays it in such her own and charismatic way.'

you turn your head down, blushing as the crowd clap and as timothee rubs your back. he made it impossible to keep it cool, and on live tv.

'and she sang the songs so good in wonka!' he continued. you tried to get him to stop, but he went on. 'on our table read, she was singing the songs there with our music producer, james taylor, and even then she was singing her parts, our co-stars parts, my parts.'

'ok, shush, shush,' you put your hand over timothees mouth.

'you know what, i saw the new hunger games movie,' said tom hanks, breaking in between you. 'and i have to say, you were the best part of the movie.'

your jaw almost dropped. 'oh woah, thank you, thank you mr tom hanks,' you clasp your hands together, thanking him. 'woah, woody just complimented me, that means so much to me.'

the rest of the interview went on, talking about cher's music, pretty women and listen to tom hanks talk about space and science. sometimes, when timmy would take a drink, he'd bring you yours, offering it to you in a sweet move.

it went on to talk about timothee going to play the iconic bob dylan in a movie, so it was your turn to watch in admiration, eyes sparkling with it.

'no i haven't met him, i'd love to meet him but you know, i don't want to put any pressure on him in any way. but er- we just saw him live,' he said, gesturing to you as you nod, holding onto your drink, 'three weeks ago, in new york. sold out, kings theatre. it was brilliant, it was magical. they bag your phone on the way in, obliges you to be present, as hard as that may be,' he said again, glancing to you. because how could he ever be present when standing next to you?

a picture showed of bob dylan with sonny and cher.

'i can see it, there is a passing resemblance,' says graham.

'thank you, that is the biggest compliment. my god, i'm blown away,' he leant back on the sofa, arm brushing yours. 'this whole talk show has been like a trip.'

everyone laughed at that, tom hanks playing along.

'but cher, you're going to be played by someone soon,' prompted graham.

'please say it's me,' said julia roberts.

'well-' graham gestured down to you.

you laugh and sheepishly hold up your hand. 'i'll do it, i'm currently un-employed.

cher looked down at you, 'we've cast nobody, babe.'

'you have now,' you shrug. the audience laugh.

finally, you guys talked about wonka, leading timothee- the leading man- to talk about it.

'you sing and dance in it, don't forget that,' you nudge him.

timothee blushes, nodding. somehow the two of you had snuggled up on the sofa, pushed to the end and bodies pressed close together. 'it's blasphemy to say that on a sofa with cher!'

'no, i saw you on saturday night live, you were great. and you danced and you did that hot-guys, or cool-guys or something like that,' said cher.

the audience clap and you laugh loudly, remembering his saturday night live. you'd been in the audience, having done press for the hunger games. it was the best night.

'baby face!' you cheer.

'i can't believe you watched that,' said timmy to cher.

'do you want to re-fresh us?' invited julia.

the crowd whoop and laugh as you clap along.

'you sing it with me?' asked timmy, looking over at you.

'absolutely not, this is all you babe,' you pat him on the back as he leans forward and re-counts the song. you nod your head along with, mouthing the words and clapping, pretending to bow when he was finished. timmy laughed and held onto you.

'you two do seem very close down there,' said graham.

for a moment, you two pause and there's quiet. before you guys realise he's talking about the fact everyone on the sofa had shuffled down so that you were on the edge.

'timmy's magnetic field,' you say, rubbing his shoulders.

Hello, I'm not sure if I missed it somewhere but what's the backstory between Wiosna and Kurt?

Hi! Actually! I haven't talked about them in complied way... Thank you for asking this, I will explain and ramble about them here 😅 At the start, I will say that my photo series Wires is telling the story of the two of them in chronological order (with the exception of Valentine's special cuz that will be set after a few that have to come at some point, I'm sorry Part 7 is so demanding...). However, Dogtown Nights are shorter bits of their life, in unspecified time points (unless stated otherwise cuz some will be follow-up/prequel to Wires) More under the cut

In early 2076 Wiosna became a netrunner for hire after her abusive fiance Arthur Jenkins died. She started small, but thanks to her experience (as she learned netrunning in Poland, where NetWatch is far more strict and only the best can survive (Thanks Eurosource Plus) and a death wish, she quickly made her way to The Afterlife. There, she was known under the nickname SPR1NG. People knew about her only what she allowed them to know, which wasn't much. But Rogue didn't complain, since Spring did all her suicidal gigs with utmost excellence. Happy client = happy fixer. With Wiosna's status increased she started being looked at by many organizations. Corps wanted to hire her to steal data from one another, cause global security breaches, and such things. She was picky with her jobs. Wiosna wasn't after money, nor she was after fame. It was the thrill. She wanted to feel something worth living for. She wanted to be scared to die. Which never really happened. So, when Rogue told her there was a special client from Dogtown who would like to hire her, but there were no deets about anything, she was intrigued. She agreed to the meeting, and from that point forward, her career was under the watchful eye of Mr. Hands. The meeting itself revealed that the client was no one else than Kurt Hansen himself, who needed a capable netrunner to build the lab for Cassels visit. Kurt was a figure everyone in Night City heard about. And Wiosna wanted to find out what was true. How the whole thing went can be seen on Wires: Part 1. But but but but!!! Dogtown Nights 4 is an indirect follow-up that happens between Part 1-5 of the Wires.

Wiosna had a life before this one. Life she ran away from, but that life made her who she is. And she was a highly educated psychologist. She liked to analyze people, trigger certain emotions in them, and make them what she wanted... And Kurt Hansen had something in him, that made her develop an unhealthy obsession. Especially, that he, just like her liked playing mind games.

And Kurt liked her, because she was pretty, smart and it was intriguing as hell she was not jumping to his bed the second she got a chance. In fact, she was cockblocking him.

Kurt and Wiosna were dancing around each other for weeks, and poor Kurt had no idea he was the one losing. Wiosna wrapped him around her finger, by letting him think he was winning, but in reality, she manipulated her way to his heart. Heart, he thought he didn't have. The stepping stone for them was the moment Kurt found out about Wiosna's past.

For Wiosna is was a test. She knew it wouldn't be easy since he didn't get any info on her the first time. All of this was to check if he was willing to bother, and what kind of reaction he would have to the truth. I made some of her files there (I should do more)

Wiosna always saw herself as flawed and unworthy of anything, due to her child trauma. She spent more time in psychiatric facilities, where they tried to "fix her" than she spent with people at school. Any free time she had, she spent in cyberspace or in ballet class - however alone.

Her files consist of dozens of evaluations, diagnoses, incident descriptions, and everything really negative that everyone in high-corpo society sees as "psycho" but in a - we can't make it useful for us psycho way.

Kurt in those files saw potential.

Of course, for him it wasn't really about love, but what he could gain from her. And sadly, Wiosna was naive enough to believe otherwise.

I don't want to say much, because it's in my upcoming stories, but I will say this: Aside from her terrible past, Wiosna also has a powerful name she doesn't use - Kochanowska. Her grandfather is Antoni Kochanowski, owner of LoveSky Space Mining Company. As of 2076 her family owns half of Earth's resources, and 90% of resources on Mars and Luna, they supply manufacturers like Arasaka with resources to make weapons, mechs etc. I want to be clear, that this is only my headcanon! We got that? Good, then to give you the level of importance LoveSky has on the market - Kurt's precious Chimaera was made from resources delivered by LoveSky to Militech. They're the fundamentals of any corporate force. Wiosna is the last of her line. Her parents died tragically (99.99% set up by their enemies) on launch to space where they were meant to start their new project, which makes her - their only child an heir to everything they owned. Which is half of LoveSky and a seat on the Arasaka Board. But Wiosna herself disappeared, despite her grandparents looking for her, and Asukaga & Finch lawyers ready to execute the will of her parents.

For Kurt she is a trophy. One that came straight to his arms at that. But well... remember what I said about Wiosna outsmarting him. They both were into each other, for their selfish reasons. What they found surprised them both.

[Personal update below.]

[I'm sorry to all my rp partners for being so abysmal in my activity, bleh. I'm dealing with a flare up of my health issues and cannot function without sleeping 12-16 hours whenever I can. And by function I mean, 20% brain capacity, just enough to handle uni, do the essential chores, scroll a bit and go to sleep, only to wake up exhausted the next day.]

[I have good days and bad days when it comes to the excessive fatigue, so during some of the good ones I've been trying War/frame again but I can't seem to derive much joy from video games anymore. I was surprised I could even play it, to be honest - last time I did was around 2020 and my Long Covid (???) would cause nasty migraines from even minimal eye strain. I still get migraines, but it's a lot better now.]

[I've already had Covid at least thrice (I test everytime I feel ill, haven't missed a single booster) and I am not looking forward to inevitably catching it again, but I live with minimisers who keep bringing it home and nobody in Poland masks. I have genuinely not seen a single person masking in what feels like years. And that includes healthcare settings.]

[If this keeps up and I keep getting more exhausted I feel like I'm going to sleep my life away. 😵‍💫 Our society is such a failure.]

Alright so...

I started reading into Ana's lore a bit. Does she not remember how she got to the hospital in Poland? Who brought her? Why was there no traces after Cassidy went to go look? HOW was there no traces? No blood? No anything? There had to at least be blood. It's mentioned that there was glass and shrapnel in her eye, and I highly doubt there wasn't any trace not left.

(Unless Ana forgot to turn on her blood shed visibility in the game settings.)

Either I didn't read far enough yet, or I skipped a part, but I've tried looking into some information and it all says the same exact thing.

'Ana woke up in a hospital in Poland, with no recollection of who she was.'

How? Who brought her?? Who found her???

Am I reading it wrong?

Am I delusional? MAYBE.

Ok so from what I know it's most likely that the mission Widowmaker shot Ana on was in Poland as so far I have not seen any confirmation that it was anywhere else and the mission taking place in Poland leaves a lot more leeway in her disappearance.

As for the no trace thing that's actually easy to explain. We know that unlike Jack and Gabe, Ana was a long distance fighter, she was in the backlines. We also don't see anyone other then military/solider characters talk about her like other characters do with Sojourn and Jack. Meaning it is likely that the only place people would recognize her without actually meeting her is in Egypt where she was famous as a protector. From what I've seen she wasn't really featured on the Overwatch poster either, so it's very likely she was a lesser known member of the Strike team despite being Jack's second in command.

As for the lack of blood, as we see both times we're shown Ana being shot by Widowmaker;

There is no blood, this is most likely because the eye that was shot out was cybernetic. Possibly making the only damage other then her eye being nerve damage (as we know she suffers from phantom pains), which combined with a traumatic event like discovering someone you know is now a terrorist, would probably cause memory loss.

As for who brought her I don't think we have an answer to that, we see that she's still conscious when she's shot and if they were in Poland it's possible she could have dragged herself to a hospital?

Either that or someone found her injured and reasonably called the ambulance. We know she requested to remain out of the system and that request was accepted so it's possible that request ended up branching to the person who found her.

Either way I doubt it was any fault of Overwatch that they weren't able to find her. At the very least Cassidy would have tried his hardest to find her. Though neither him, Jack or Gabriel seemed as surprised as I would expect them to be. I mentioned in a previous post that I think the search for Ana was less concluded with them saying Ana was dead and more called off because it was taking up too much time and resources, either by Jack's order or the UN's. Because of that I have a hard time believing that Cassidy, Jack and Gabe fully believes that she was dead.

I might be completely wrong though, it's been awhile since I've read Bastet (I love the story and how it's written, I just hate how everything is actually formatted in the book)

Let's dive right in, we're starting at the scene where Phil and Hercules fly over to Thebes

= Since calling NY “Big Apple” isn’t really a thing in Poland, they instead made a reference to the saying “to pretend to be Greek” (something like, to play dumb) which is a nice pun but a little forced I’d say

+ Instead of “numbskull” Phil gets called “ram” which is both a way to call someone idiot in Polish, but also, well, he basically is

+ I feel like the joke with the cat is even funnier in Polish, because the guy lifts the black cat and calls it Whity :’D

* The joke abou IX-I-I gets translated literally with the Polish emergency number but it sounds so bad

+ “And fiery” Hades lights his thumbs on fire “words of appreciation”

+ “They even made a noise! ...of delight”

+ “Well that’s not going to delight you…”

= Here I was torn between that and ”+” because “rąsia” (“hand” (diminutive)) is just hilarious in this context but I suppose the original is pretty funny too

+ “Our hero’s a zero” is funnier in Polish, because to rhyme “zero” with “heros” She had to add an “s” at the end and made it into “zeros” which like?? I have no actual lingustic knowledge to explain why it’s fun, but it kinda changes the word from just a numeral into a term for a person

+ Instead of “There’s a whole cosmos waiting for me with, hey, my name on it” (which I don’t quite get cause like? I’m sure he’s talking about the “over”world not the underworld so what’s with the name it sounds like a pun but I don’t get it?) Hades says “The whole cosmos is waiting for me to take over and I, too, am burning to do so” which in Polish is an idiom meaning to be very enthusiastic about doing something

- I have to admit that “good answer” is funnier than just something like “and rightly so”

* I- I have no idea what Hermes’ reaction is to the Titans coming. I know it’s not the original “We’re in trouble! Big big trouble!” but I genuinely *do not understand* what the Polish actor is saying. What the heck.

* “O ładny gips! Sunie prażona pała!”?????????????????? Tak tam jest??? Pani Łopatniukowa pomocy 😭

+ Instead of “my lord and lady” Hermes titles Zeus and Hera as “your godnesses”

+ “Easy you flying nag” except like, flying isn’t even a regular adjective here it’s more derogative, anyway even when saving Hercules Meg can’t stop herself from insulting Pegasus XD

= The original pun of “Get off, blast you!” while Zeus is throwing the bolt is great and Polish translation “Get off, cause when I’ll blow…!” as a reference to the Big Bad Wolf is fantastic too :D

* Hm alright, I have a little mixed feelings about the translation and use of “I’ll go the distance” as a recurring line, because on one hand, it’s been translated as best as possible since we don’t have this idiom and is used basically in all of the places it’s been used in the original dialogue – except it’s not used in the song. - “He promise he won’t hurt me” I mean sure, technically that does fall into the “she won’t get hurt” category but it’s not what happened sooo…

+ Ayyy Hermes repeats the “No to lu, panienki” that the narrator said to the muses at the beginning of the movie!! Fantastic

To sum it up! Ms Łopatniukowa did a fantastic job with this translation, both conveying the original jokes and specific manner of speaking chosen, and added many references to the ancient culture that were missing in the original. I am still delighted by Phil's way of speaking which is an example of fantastic localization and some of Hades' lines are simply iconic.

Once again, Polish dubbing is supreme 😌

different wars research

Since my game is based around war I am looking at some of the wars and how they started and what caused them. This will help me have a better understanding of what I should do with my cinematic. I am also going to look at some local history.

WWI- The assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand set off a chain of events that then led to the First World War. The war had lasted between 1914 to 1918. There were over 30 nations during WWI with two main sides the central powers, (consisting of mainly Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey) and The Allies (consisting of mainly France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan and from 1917 united States).

WWII- After Adolf Hitler rose to power in Germany he soon invaded Poland in September of 1939 which drove Great Britain and France to declare war on Germany. The war was fought by 50 nations but there were two main powers between Germany, Italy and Japan (Axis powers) and great Britain, France, United States and Soviet union (Allied Powers).

Battle of Hastings- The battle of Hastings begun on the 14th October 1066 because of a disputed succession to the throne. Edward the confessor had failed to produce any children to succeed him so when he died his brother in law Harold Godwinson claimed the throne insisting the old king nominated him at his dying moments. Soon after he was crowned he had to fend off challenges to his rule. the first of which being Harold Hardrada, the king of Norway which he eventually won in September 1066 and then a second challenge came from william, Duke of Normandy (who was believed to have been promised the throne by Edward the confessor half way through his reign) three days later.

the first Crusade- The first crusade was organised by Western European Christians. Their primary objective was to stop the expansion of Muslim states, to reclaim for Christianity for the holy land in the Middle East. They desired to take Jerusalem away from Muslim control. They begun in 1096 and lasted nearly two centuries. It ended around 1099 when they were finally expelled from the kingdom in Syria. The crusades continued for several centuries after 1099 but declined rapidly during the 16th century.

Russia vs Ukraine- It is believed that the current Russian vs Ukraine conflict is a case of Russian not wanting Ukraine to join NATO and are trying to prevent it. Also it is believed that Russia sees Ukraine as Russian territory and are taking it back. This war has been going on since 2022. Russia is trying to reclaim Ukraine whilst Ukraine is defending itself from being invaded.

Israel vs Gaza- The Gaza-Israel conflict is a localized part of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict beginning in 1948, when 200,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes, settling in the Gaza Strip as refugees. Since then Israel has fought 15 wars against the Gaza Strip.

War of the Roses- The main cause of the war of the roses was the incompetent rule of a Henry VI of England and the ambition of Richard, Duke of York and then his son Edward. The conflict was between two sides of the Plantagenet family, the house of York and the house of Lancaster. The duke of York believed he had a better claim to the throne than Henry VI. The war lasted 30 years from 1455-1485.

Looking at all the wars a big similarity between them is that they are either fighting for power and/or land. A lot of the older wars were fought over claims to the throne.

New Year's thread, 1/1/2022

It is currently 12:06 AM, January 1st, 2022. We made it. A whole 'nother year.

I'm sitting here, full up on green grapes, herring, black-eyed peas, and champagne, and I'm thinking about how strange things are and have been.

I make no secret of how my mother wasn't a good person. But something that stuck with me was her New Years traditions. Champagne, black eyed peas, herring, and green grapes. I never questioned it.

It's only now, just after my 29th birthday, that I decided to Google it.

It turns out, it's an amalgamation of traditions. The American South eat black eyed peas and collard greens on New Years, to symbolize luck and money in the new year. Poland and parts of Scandinavia eat herring on New Years to bring bounty and prosperity.

And Spain has 'las doce uvas de la suerte', or 'the twelve lucky grapes'. They eat twelve green grapes, one for each month, to ensure good luck in the coming year.

She wasn't Spanish, she wasn't Polish, she wasn't even from the South.

She was 100% New York Italian.

I have to wonder how these traditions came to her, and how she came to follow them. A strange mixture of traditions, distorted over time and space, until they became embedded in my mind, something I do with the passing of every year, for, no reason, really.

It makes me think of all the happenstance to get me to where I am. Bee introducing me to V-tubing. Minty and Anthem making my model. But, let's go even farther back.

Let's talk about a canceled Pokemon fangame and a forgotten sprite comic.

Pokemon Internet Online: Rising Sun, or 'PIO:RS', was a fanmade Pokemon MMO in the early 2000s. And Kid Radd was probably the greatest sprite comic ever made. One was given a cease and desist, the other forgotten.

Without either, I wouldn't be myself.

Without PIO:RS, wouldn't have been the forum post that led me to both Homestar Runner and the sprite comic Bob and George. Both formative for my sense of humor.

Without Bob and George, I wouldn't have seen the ad for GameCheetz, the comic whose community formed the impetus of my tween-age social circle, and would cause aftershocks through my life for many, many years.

Without Kid Radd… I wouldn't know about EarthBound. Kid Radd was a comic that lovingly parodied games and the act of games preservation, in an original setting, from the perspective of when it was made, 2002-2004.

In it was a game parody called 'MOFO'.

I was unaware Kid Radd was an original work. But its parody of MOTHER enraptured me in concept. A game with an unkillable boss, and a secret ending if you hacked past it?

I set to Google. I did not discover MOFO. But I discovered EarthBound, and Starmen.net.

Starmen.net became, of course, Fangamer. And the community begat many facets of internet culture... Of course, Undertale, but even Homestuck owes its name to a parody of the name 'EarthBound'. And I was there, not posting, but watching. Absorbing.

There were, of course, other influences. The Protomen. Splatoon. My experiences as part of a plural system, and my interactions with the plural community at large. My growing and ongoing obsession with media preservation. Desert Bus. Innumerable influences.

All of those things brought me here, now. If even one thing changed, who would I be?

I would not be myself.

I don't really know where I'm going with this. Just… Think on your past. Treasure the things that made you 'you'. Treasure the people you have, and the life you live, if it's one you enjoy.

To get back on topic… New Years resolutions.

I want to foster a more healthy relationship with content creation and content consumption. I want to find things that make me happy again that aren't just streaming.

But I also want to be able to take those passions and put them back out into the universe. TikTok. YouTube. I want to finally start executing on the plans I've laid but never followed up on.

I want to share myself with the world.

Streaming is not all that I am.

Of course, I want to keep growing. But I'm blessed to have the following I do already. The friends I do already. I can only hope 2022 lays the foundation for me to chase my passions for the rest of my life.

Content is something DiRT Rally 2.0 Game of the Year Edition is not short of. If Rallycross is more your thing, there’s another thirteen circuits including official courses from the FIA World Rallycross Championship. That’s a whopping thirteen rally locations and more stages than a manned mission to Mars. This includes locations such as Finland, Germany, Sweden, Scotland, Wales, Greece and Monte Carlo to join the original six rally locations of the USA, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and Spain. It’s still not a walk in the park and learning to play on a controller will take time and practice but it is possible and very, very rewarding.Īs is typical of Game of the Year editions, this release includes all the cars and tracks that were locked behind DiRT Rally 2.0’s Year 1 pass. One positive out of this change however, is that it’s easier to play on a controller which makes it far more accessible than DiRT Rally ever was. That being said, moving to a model that causes such a drastic change regardless is an odd choice given how good things already were. Given wheel support varies between hardware it may just be that our Thrustmaster TX wheel isn’t as well supported as others. Every surface feels pretty much the same and it's much harder to judge where the grip is. However it seems to have made its way into DiRT Rally 2.0 and it’s pretty disappointing. It felt a little lacklustre when compared to its simulation stablemate but then, given DiRT 4’s more arcade leanings, this could be forgiven. McRae’s Subaru and a rally game, simply iconicĭiRT 4 followed two years later, more a sequel to Dirt: Showdown than DiRT Rally and with it a new handling model. Each surface could be differentiated through the force feedback helping you navigate the stage alongside your co-driver’s pace notes. Updated visuals aside, it was the deftness in the handling and the feel, especially if you had a wheel setup, that really set it apart. Steeped in simulation, it was precisely what sim rally fans had been after. It was with shock and sheer delight then that in 2015 Codemasters released, originally in Steam’s early access, DiRT Rally. This isn’t to say they were bad games but it left those who enjoyed playing sims with a game that would slowly but surely show its age when it came to not only graphics but compatibility. Whilst it strove for realism, the McRae titles slowly but surely tilted towards arcade mayhem. It goes without saying that in reality, the best rallying experience up until recently for full-on realism belonged to Richard Burns’ Rally.

Don’t get me wrong, I have every respect for drivers in the current WRC Championship and for sheer success no-one gets close to the likes of Sébastien Loeb - yet Colin McRae and his rally game brought forth my first real taste of what rallying was like and I doubt I am alone in that respect. Even now, listing the names of the rally drivers I watched as a kid gives me chills: Richard Burns, Carlos Sainz Sr, Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen and of course Colin McRae. As a kid born in the eighties I’ve been fortunate enough to say I’ve seen some of the titans of motorsport duel it out.
