okay, i have to address something that i've seen float around a bunch on tumblr, reddit, and tiktok lately when it comes to readers who are angry at fanfiction authors for not writing the content they wish to see in their fandom spaces.

...did you ever think to try and write it yourself?

this weekend i saw someone comment on the bg3 sub about how they're sick of seeing astarion fics with 'special/edgy female-centric tieflings or durges' and not much else. they were angry that 'they scroll for hours on ao3 and tumblr but only find all this oc and reader insert garbage, when it's plaguing their fandom space'.

so write the damn story you keep searching for. write what you find the fandom lacks. you take it upon yourself to curate the content you want out there.

if a writer wants to make 50 stories of the same 'special/edgy' original character smutting up a canon, they can? it's their labor of love. their passion project. a hobby. they choose to share it online for free. we are so very lucky to live in a digital age where fanfiction is so readily available, and there are millions if not billions of stories (for free!!) at your fingertips to scroll and enjoy.

i'm getting very tired of finding posts/videos of entitled readers who vocally complain about not being catered to when they themselves are not trying to contribute with the content, pairings, or topics they wish to see.

Sometimes I feel like I don't fit in here very well or am too sensitive since I'm not usually a fan of angst and pain and bad endings and sour relationships in fiction. I want feel good stuff. Angst doesn't make me feel good. Angst makes me hurt and cry. I don't like hurting and crying. I wanna see my muses happy. I'm fine with angsty things happening every once in a while, or as long as there's a happy ending at the end of the tunnel. But unrequited stuff? Stuff that ends with my muse heartbroken? I just can't do it. It upsets me too much. IDK what that says about me, honestly. My brain tells me it means I'm weak, but my brain is mean to me a lot, so I try not to listen.

In light of recent events it's also very difficult for me to believe that I will make long-lasting friendships again. But I will. It will happen without me even realising it. Maybe I'm never going to get the kind of relationship with another person that I dream about, where we're obsessed with each other and intensely affectionate. Maybe that isn't a good or sustainable model of a relationship (platonic or otherwise) anyway, no matter how badly I want it.

And maybe in the rare times I do get it, I can appreciate the time spent and the care shown even if it crashes and burns in the end. I'm still working on that part right now. But I hope I get there.

When that anon said they “didn’t know” if I did that source, I thought they meant like sourcelists, not like “it literally romanticizes sexual abuse”!! I said to use common sense regarding requesting for a reason! If you knew that your source was awful enough to warrant that sort of disclaimer, the least you could have done is told me!!!!

I am genuinely so disgusted with myself and angry right now. I’ve deleted the post about that template, and I’m considering deleting the template altogether. I can’t believe I put my effort into making something that glorified my abuse.

Tricking me into making something like that because I didn’t know the source… Some of you people truly are despicable.

(( Reading through the comments on that last reblog riled me up a little, NGL. Sure, he's aroace in canon, Viv said as much, but you know what she also said? "Ship whatever you want, just don't bully people over it." And yet, look at what people do: bully people for shipping and writing smut with the aroace. They use "Viv said he's aroace" as their argument, but conveniently forget that Viv said it's perfectly fine to ship whatever you want. Some of the people in this fandom need to touch grass I s2g. ))
