The big question posed by the Collectors is this: Why do they Collect? Well I posit that perhaps, they are training to Create.

I took some inspiration from this comic by @cathchicken for how I drew the baby Potential :P I thought it looked neat!

Written version under cut

Stage 1: Potential. Leftover bits from the creation of the universe turned into dense balls of the Creator's magic.

Stage 2: Collector. The child stage. "Collectors live long, we watch things pass. To observe, to preserve, we must amass. What flies what swims, be it predator or pray, seal them up so that they never fade." Collectors take objects from creation and keep them for amusement.

Stage 3: Archivist. Teen stage. Not only have they amassed a collection of creations, they've taken them apart, studied them, know everything about them. They're insufferable. It's like a child who likes catching all the pokemon for fun vs an enthusiast who can tell you all about the type matchups and IVs and EVs and trainer AI.

Stage 4: Creator. Adult stage. Having studied their collection so long, they might believe they can create a better version of the creations themselves. They use their magic to create their own "better versions" of what they have. They collect to study for godhood.

Stage 5: Creation. End of life stage. The creation process is destructive, and requires taking pieces of oneself and repurposes that magic into other forms. The cycle continues with new Potential being born out of the last of a Creator's magic.

Sargas the Huntsman (in TOH´s style)

FINALLY finished this reference pic, it was a whole process you can clearly see, a lot of frankensteining limbs and features for the initial sketch and get a sense for the proportions, cleaning it up, test colors , bunch of other little notes, anyways, Sargas is our Collector´s "older brother" of sorts, never got trapped , canonically would probably be dead (by a Titan´s hand for sure) , but in an AU just lives with the Titan Trappers, being worshipped, fooling around.

this goes for @wake-up-and-face-the-sun /@face-the-sun-sideblog and also @cathchicken because they both needed a good color ref ! sorry it took me LIKE TWO DAYS to finish it , i got ambitious.

I have a few questions: when a tutors duty is complete, what happens to them? Do they simply die, or carry on with other tasks?

Also: can drones develop relationships independent from their hub, or would it still be equivalent to the entire colony’s consciousness (and my relationship I mean friendships, family, romance… wait, do towers even do romance, haha)

Tutors will defend, transmit data to, and feed the infant with their stores, eventually starving to death with one of the infant’s mouths affixed to it.

Drones do not have any consciousness, but individual drones can develop unique associations. As an example, a tower whose drone was mauled by a predator will have all of its drones be more jumpy on average, but physiologically, the attacked drone will always be the jumpiest.

Towers reproduce through controlled anemophily. Autumntide compels healthy, established towers to unconsciously broadcast radio transmissions advertising the breadth of their knowledge and richness of their land. The broadcasts are sent in all directions or in the direction of nearby towers if the advertiser is aware of their existence. The sensation of the sudden redirection of interbody connectivity to broadcasting an advertisement feels like a mental sneeze. The sensation is a nuisance, but relieving.

Received advertisements are evaluated subconsciously by the body. Attractiveness is based on knowledge applicability and land health. Receivers determine the direction of the broadcast and contact the sender for ‘references’, or more data regarding their status in order to decide whether their pollen is a good match for them. The sender is rewarded by having less frequent sneezing to worry about, and the receiver can block out the barrage of other advertisements.

If a tower is uninterested in children, this season of sneezing can be embarrassing in front of trade partners.

Post-language, towers attempt to meet one another in person (via drones) to communicate about their interests. This way, individuals can learn more about one another than just their skills.

Tower ‘romances’ resemble a mutual interest in support and discussion, and are deeply rooted in conversation ability.
