I was watching a Youtube video of all the Cinematic from the new Overwatch Invasion update (cause heaven knows I ain't buying it) and I noticed at the end Ramattra has this like.. Burn? Mark?? On his chest that goes through his cape
So I downloaded Overwatch on my PC to get a look at the Wandering/Traveling Monk skins this scene is using and I noticed..
Traveling and Wandering have a lot of visual differences, most notably in the burn the originally got my attention.
Wandering has been used canonically to show Ramattra's monk days previously, in his origin story and in the Developer commentary, but interestingly the artwork in those videos is lacking that very burn
Overwatch character designers are very good at visual storytelling, especially with Omnics (I could write an essay on what they've done with Zenyatta), so I believe this burn may very well be what became the Last Straw for Ramattra, what pushed him to leave the Shambali, what caused his fall into violence and eventually Talon.
Was he attacked? Or was he attempting to protect someone else? Despite his best efforts to shield them, the shot fired right past him, scorching his metal, cutting through his cape, and taking their life...
I hope we learn more about it.

Let’s Talk Overwatch: Zenyatta’s Tassel
I am all about symbolism, and Overwatch has plenty of it. Since Zenyatta has next to no lore outside of what we know about Genji, I’d like to throw my hat into the ring.
See, what’s interesting to me is that Zenyatta is technically from Nepal (since it’s unclear if he was built in an omnium near there or not) with the rest of the Shambali. Now, I’m not all that familiar with most Eastern languages, but I do know that Nepalese (and most… would you call them Hindu languages? Indian? I don’t want to come off as rude or anything, I just do not know) and even the omnic language are not written like the character on Zen’s tassel. In my research, I did see that people had pointed out that the character is actually Japanese (禅) for “Zen.” That could be a literal fact on his personality or maybe just for the beginning of his name. But, the reason this is interesting is because it’s Japanese. Zenyatta technically has no connection to the language, he’s from Nepal not Japan. So, why would he have something with a Japanese character on it?
Because of Genji.
Zenyatta helped Genji through the hardest time of his life, helped him to accept what he had been turned into, and help him to achieve this very positive outlook on life despite all he has gone through. Zenyatta calls Genji his brightest pupil and, honestly, they have such a deeper bond that goes beyond just a teacher and student or spiritual guide. They have a friendship that is pure. I believe that Genji made the tassel for Zenyatta as a way to thank him for everything he had done. Maybe he saw it fit to give it to him because Zenyatta had given him so much.
Tassels hold different significances depending on the location or religion in the wold. Like, Israelites made them to help them to remember all the commandments of the Lord and to keep them, and as a sign of holiness. The middle east would wear them on their headwear as talismans to ward off evil spirits or demons. Here in the United States, graduates of schools or colleges wear tassels to show their accomplishes during their graduation ceremony. The color depends on what it is for. And in most other places and instances, it is primarily for decorative purposes. (I paraphrased it all, but i linked the wiki page so you can see)
Obviously, Genji would feel that Zenyatta should show off the good he has done for people. Even if Zenyatta is more reserved than he is, he still allows this little thing since it was a gift from his student.
It is also something to note that the tassel seems to either be better taken care of than the rest of Zenyatta’s outfit, or it is simply newer than the rest of his tattered robes. It’s just. Interesting.

literally nobody will care about this post but i really just need to write down my thoughts about what the hell is going on in the overwatch’s lore so just scroll past i guess bye
• a while back they told us that the figure known as reaper has being going around even before the swiss hq incident happened AND in her origin story moira is experimenting on reyes while she is literally wearing a blackwatch uniform. so, imo, the transformation in reyes’ current state is likely a result of something wrong going on with the dna’s change. she can teleport in the same way reaper can but she seems alright, doesn’t she? perhaps he died in the fire (or whatever happened) and his body reacted that way. why does he blame overwatch, is the question we get after that conclusion. well, maybe someone saw the way he was and decided to leave him there. or they made him believe that, somehow. the interactions in the spawn rooms are non-canon if i’m right, but they still are something that can be summed up as “what would they all talk about IF they met” and mercy really doesn’t know what happened to him, even though he seems bitter towards her. i think that he’s angry about overwatch and the solitude he might have experienced, so a figure like mercy that is prominent and important in that organization is just a bad memory altogether for him, even if she didn’t do anything specific that was supposed to arm him in any way
• reaper definitely is sentimental when ana is in the picture, like in one of the comics about her he tells her that “they” left “them” to die so he sees her as a victim as much as him. i really don’t think he feels hatred in her regards and really isn’t too keen on actually killing her. i’m not sure about soldier, like i think he sees both him and mercy as important figures in the overwatch hierarchy and that is what is making his hate and bitterness fuel. i’m quite sure he has being brainwashed as well; in a different way compared to widowmaker, where her whole thing might actually be 100% scientific, and for him only based on grief
• mercy didn’t like the fact that ana changed one of the things she worked on (the rifle, if i remember correctly) so i really cannot WAIT to hear about her relationship status with moira. like, mercy and winston are like the scientists who have good morals/are in the ‘good’ alignment and they try to do their best with and for the others, while moira stated to not having problems with doing experiments and studies on things that are morally wrong or not accepted by society. which also leads me to believe that either mercy or someone like her & soldier or maybe her & winston pushed her off overwatch because of disagreements regarding their ethics.
• the vishkar guy we see in symmetra’s comic is one of talons’ leaders. sombra is connecting lumerico and vishkar. sombra doesn’t give a damn about talon or whomever. symmetra is starting to have doubts about the morals vishkar has. PLEASE LET ME HAVE SOMBRA AND SYMMETRA TEAM UP IN THE ACTUAL CANON. I BEG YOU, BLIZZARD.
• jesse mccree makes me incredibly sad because we keep discovering people who might have broken him in a way or the other. was her idea to give him a bionic arm? was her the one to trasform genji in a weaponized cyborg ninja? were they conscious about these changes or were them forced upon them...? like mccree was threatened to leave his past behind and become part of blackwatch by reyes (and tbf i think gabriel actually likes jesse, whether the lines in-game deny it or not), so like, being part of the secretive “brutal force” section of overwatch made him and genji the ones no one cared about in the world & got them to be experimented by moira on without ripercussion......
• thinking about all of this made me question another thing: we still don’t know what happened to satya’s left arm. was vishkar another outlet where moira let her experiments go through, with the help of that guy they both know?
• ...........we kind of all agree on the fact that moira definitely was the one to transform amelie to widowmaker, right? she might also have been the one to get/kidnap her in the first place, like maybe amelie was fooled by the fact that she knew moira was her husband’s colleague in overwatch so she trusted her. that would also mean that yes, moira was part of talon before all that mess happened.
• the fact that moira’s powers have the same color palette and similarities with zenyatta powers makes us think about one influencing the other. but like, which one was the first one? are zen’s orbs abilities something peculiar to him or is this a thing for all the shambali monks? is maxwell (the omnic doomfist meets in the “masquerade” comic) the one who taught her about all this stuff? and also: are genji and zenyatta going to acknowledge the fact that “hey, did she get that idea from zen?” or not
• if she also tries to get hanzo to join talon to get the shimada power back, can we start to worry about that scenario as well? with the comic in uprising we know that something happened in japan/with them; overwatch was getting exposed by that group on the news. i was one of those who taught that maybe the shimada clan got the info that genji was still alive and was with blackwatch so they wanted their revenge, so maybe that’s actual the reason but also, how did they get that info? was it a spy, like maybe moira was? moira or another overwatch agent that we have yet to meet that was with her on this sabotage from the inside. and maybe all these divisions got overwatch to actually, and literally, explode in switzerland
aaand i’m done. i think. for now this is what i’m thinking about currently so yeah, it might be all wrong but i just had to get them off my chest. cheers xo
