My #cicely story. My Mom took me to see this movie #bustinloose with some guy named #richardpryor when I was a kid. He was really funny, but the woman who played the teacher affected me the most. After I saw that movie I wanted to be an actress. When I saw the water fountain scene in the TV movie which earned her an emmy award in the seventies, #theautobiographyofmissjanepittman I was astounded..It's a shame Hollywood didn't give her her a bouquet flowers until the last decade or so. Seeing her play @violadavis mother in #howtogetawaywithmurder was EVERYTHING. I even memorized the title of first episode she appeared in: Mama's Here written by @swptatopie who did one helluva job! To see Cicely and Viola together knowing one had paved the way for the other was too exciting to properly describe!!! Thank you @shondarhimes !! I made sure to see her onstage as soon as I found out about #atriptobountiful and got on a plane to see her on Broadway AND in L A. And flew 3000 miles again to see her co-star with my other #acting inspiration #jamesearljones in Gin Game. They were MAGIC together!!! She absolutely exuded JOY onstage!! He is now 89 years young...I never met him but saw him onstage with my other inspiration #cicelytyson (who I first saw in #bustinloose) a few years ago. They had sooo much fun together. I also made sure the poem I wrote about him in high school got to his "people". 27th day of #BlackHistoryMonth2020 ⁣𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 “The Godfather of GoGo” ⁣ Born: August 22nd, 1936 Gaston, NC⁣ ⁣ #ChuckBrown is the undisputed sole founder and creator #GoGo music, a hypnotically danceable genre deeply rooted in funk and soul that he developed in the early 70’s , and the only form of expressive culture to originate in the District of Columbia. ⁣ ⁣ Foreshadowing rap and many of the major popular #RnB styles of the past three decades, Chuck's signature style earned him a place in American musical royalty. This esteem was maintained by the reputation of his legendary live shows, heavy on audience participation and built around “the beat” to create an unparalleled non-stop party atmosphere.⁣ ⁣ In the 1950s, Brown was incarcerated and served eight years in Lorton Correctional Complex. In prison, he traded cigarettes for a guitar, which was how his love for the instrument began. When Brown completed his sentence, he moved back to Washington, D.C. and worked as a truck driver, a bricklayer, and a sparring partner at multiple boxing gyms. He also started to perform at parties throughout the area; however, he could not play at venues that served liquor, because his probation officer would not allow it.⁣ ⁣ Brown's musical career began in the 1960s playing guitar with Jerry Butler and The Earls of Rhythm, joining #LosLatinos in 1965. At the time of his death (May 16, 2012) he was still performing music and was well known in the Washington, D.C., area. Brown's early hits include "We Need Some Money" and "Bustin' Loose". ⁣ ⁣ #BustinLoose has been adopted by the #WashingtonNationals baseball team as its home run celebration song, and was interpolated by @nelly for his 2002 number one hit "Hot in Herre."
