A Florida couple visiting Haiti was kidnapped nearly an hour after landing as their captors demand $200,000 for their safe return. Abigail and Jean-Dickens Toussaint, both 33, were taken on March 18 by a local gang who stopped their Port-au-Prince bus and demanded all Americans get off, according to their family. The couple's grieving family warned them to stay away from the country that is overrun with political unrest and gangs. 'We were very worried when they said they were going, we told them not to go but they wanted to go,' relative Nikese Toussaint, told ABC7. A family-friend traveling with them from the airport to the nearby city of Leogan was also taken. The day the couple went missing, they sent a message to their family telling them they landed safely around 8.55am local time, according to ABC7. They never sent another update. The couple's kidnappers initially asked the family for $6,000 for their return before increasing the amount to $200,000. 'We don't have that type of money,' Christie Desormes, their niece, told WPLG. It's unclear how the kidnappers communicated with the family. The couple shares a one-year-old son, who stayed behind in the US with family. He is currently staying with his family. The Toussaints might miss their son's second birthday on March 28 if they are not released. 'It’s a lot of emotions, it’s devastating, you feel angry it happened and then you feel numb at the same time because it doesn’t feel real,' Desormes told NBC. Desormes started a Change.org petition to get the attention of politicians who can help bring her aunt and uncle home. 'They are U.S. citizens. They are parents. They are siblings. A couple has been charged after a six-year-old boy was found naked and locked inside a dog cage in a Philadelphia home - and two young girls wearing diapers were found wandering outside in the rain. Michelle Campbell, 30, and Paul Weber, 31, are charged with endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering a person, Sargent Eric Gripp with the Philadelphia Police Department told CBS Philadelphia News. A concerned neighbor alerted police after hearing screams around 1pm on Thursday in a residential Philadelphia neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found the two female children - ages 4 and 5 - outside the home. Once they gained entry, they found the little boy locked inside the dog cage, with a blanket and pillow. A zip tie had been used to secure the gate shut. Investigators said a woman inside the home and mother of at least one of the three children was taken to the Special Victims Unit where she was being interviewed by police. She has not yet been charged. Police are also searching for the father of the children as the investigation continues. An elderly woman in a wheelchair and a 40-year-old man were also found inside the home, according to officials, the news outlet reported. Police believe the 80-year-old woman is the grandmother or great grandmother of the children and the adult male is an uncle with intellectual disabilities. The children did not appear to be injured but were taken to a hospital for an evaluation and then will be in the care of DHS, officials said. Police said two other children that live at the home were in school at the time, NBC Miami reported. Neighbor Hector Perez found the children when he came home from work and was horrified by what he saw. 'They have Pampers on. They have no shirts, no pants, they have no shoes. They're screaming, it's raining, it's cold,' Perez told Action 6 News. 'They're screaming for their mother and father.' ‘They’re Sweeping It Under the Rug’: Furious California mother of a fifth grader at Santiago Elementary School in Santa Ana, California, held a protest to demand answers from the school after she claimed her daughter was bullied and called a slave. Jasmine Harris said that the alleged incident took place on March 1 during lunch. Her 10-year-old daughter, Paris Barnes, was playing with friends when, according to her account, a male classmate whipped a jump rope at her and told her “Get back to work, you slave.” Harris said that she was not pleased with the response she got from administrators on campus or the Santa Ana Unified School District. She wanted to know whether the little boy was disciplined. She also took to social media to garner support for her daughter. “It was very disrespectful and I just felt really hurt inside,” Barnes said. Harris, along with a dozen other parents, held a small protest on the sidewalk adjacent to the school on Monday afternoon. “I want the little boy to get expelled. I want them to do something about this,” Harris said. Harris has pressed charges against the minor boy through the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for a hate crime and attempted assault on a minor. Jessica Garcia and Maria Gomez were two of the parents among the dozen that protested. On July 3rd, 2022 at 3:00 AM, Khalil Ahmad Azad an unarmed 24-year-old black man fled from Robbinsdale police by foot into the woods towards Crystal Lake. Khalil ran in fear for his life, he had a warrant and previous police brutality experiences from Robbinsdale police. Khalil was chased by several officers and K-9’s. Two days later (July 5th, 2022) Khalil was found deceased by a houseless man on the shore of Crystal Lake. Though, medical examiners falsified the medical report and claimed his death was a result of accidental fresh water “drowning,” the family shared that Khalil knows how to swim. We believe based on the recovery photos Khalil was brutalized by police, and he is bitten by several K-9 bites. We observed scratches on his body, several of his dreadlocks ripped from his scalp and his nose and potentially back was broken. A French family has been left heartbroken after their 19-month-old daughter died during their Miami vacation from an accidental fentanyl overdose. Lydie and Boris Lavenir, of Guadeloupe - a French island - never imagined they would lay their 19-month-old daughter Enora down for a nap and not have her wake up. Prior to her nap, the little girl was playing in the kitchen with the pots and pans before her parents laid her down for a two-hour nap. Unfortunately for the family, when Lydie went to wake up Enora, she found her daughter foaming at the mouth and blue in the face inside their rented Wellington, Florida, lake house in August 2021. 'Enora’s dead,' the frantic mother screamed, according to the Washington Post. The family of seven rushed to call 911, but it was too late for little Enora, whose death has since been ruled an accidental overdose of fentanyl. Even worse for the family - who had no idea what the highly dangerous drug was - authorities originally made them suspects. However, that quickly changed after both Lydie and Boris tested negative for the drug and investigators couldn't find a trace of fentanyl in the home. Investigators and the family were left wondering: Where did the fentanyl come from? The family is keen to believe the previous renters, who admitted to throwing a cocaine-infused party weeks before they arrived, had something to do with it. However, investigators aren't certain and tested several theories. After contacting the former renters, who denied being in possession of any fentanyl, investigators also looked into Enora's sleeping position and medical history to see if they could find any connection. A culprit was never determined, leading an investigator to rule her heart-wrenching death accidental. 'I am currently unable to determine how the child Enora Lavenir ingested the fentanyl,' a final report read. 'Therefore I am unable to develop probable cause for abuse or neglect leading to the death of Enora. Currently, the manner of death is listed as accidental.' Jaynisha 'Jayla' Williams went under the knife of October 20, 2021 for the two #cosmetic procedures being performed by Best U Now cosmetic surgery center in Plantation, #Florida. Throughout the procedure Williams mother, Latoshia Leggett, was reassured by the #medical staff that her daughter was fine, but grew concerned when she saw other patients being discharged, but not Williams. When she heard a siren she grew frantic and then learned that her daughter was being taken to #Plantation General Hospital. When she demanded to know what was going on, that was when she got the horrifying news, that her daughter had died. The grief-stricken mother who had flown in from #California to help her daughter post surgery was traumatized. Leggett told NBC6 Miami: 'They politely grabbed me and said, 'your daughter is dead.' The #Broward Medical Examiner's Office stated 'the procedure was completed but [Jayla] never awoke from the anesthesia,' the news outlet reported. The cause of Williams death is listed as 'undetermined,' according to the medical examiner's report. In a bombshell revelation it was later revealed that the designated physician for the #surgery center, claimed they allowed a #doctor who wasn't qualified to administer the aesthesia to sedate Williams. The unlicensed doctor was identified as Dr. Millicent Muir, an OB-GYN who is restricted from practicing that specialty for an unrelated complaint. She was the physician who administered the anesthesia. According to the report, Best U Now has a number of anesthesia providers on record, but Muir is not listed as one of them. #JaylaWilliams, who was a photographer and mother of a five and two year old, lived in #Hillsborough County. I am a survivor of child sexual abuse, and still healing. When I was 3 years old, my grandmother who is my legal guardian, sent me to North Carolina to live with a friend. Her friend had 2 kids, a son and daughter both older than me. Her son who was 11 at the time, used to say things to me that made me feel uncomfortable. I remember one time being in the bathroom with the daughter and son, and he was trying to make me take off my clothes but I said no! Being so young I don’t remember a lot, but I do remember the night he raped me. I was sleeping one night and felt something inside of me, and I woke up to him sexually abusing me. I didn’t know what was going on, but I knew it wasn’t right. I didn’t scream or fight back though. I couldn’t, because I was still trying to process what was even going on. After he was finished, he just went back to sleep as if nothing happened. When I was 4, I was shipped back to New York to live with my grandmother. My god mother lived above us, and at age 5 while I was upstairs at her house, her boyfriend tried to rape me. I remember these details vividly. I remember my surroundings. I remember what was on the TV, and I remember him trying to force himself in me. And then he stopped and shook his head, like he knew what he was doing was wrong. He is now a registered sex offender, for abusing his own daughters. The worst part is there were rumors about him touching his daughters was before he actually got charged, yet I was still trusted around him. I was 9, the third and final time I was assaulted. This time by a female cousin, who was visiting for the summer. We were playing board games in the living room, when all of a sudden she started undressing. She began to touch me, and attempted to make me give her oral. I never told anyone, until I told a friend at age 18. At age 20, I told my boyfriend, and he encouraged me to tell my grandmother. My grandmother didn’t believe me. She brushed it off, and told me that maybe in deserved it! My support system now is my boyfriend of 2½ years. Dwyane Wade hit back at his ex-wife Siovhaughn Funches’ “nonsensical” attempt to block their daughter Zaya’s name and gender change in a new court filing Monday. The retired NBA player advocated for Zaya’s right to “live more comfortably and honestly in all aspects of her life” in documents obtained by Page Six. “This petition is about allowing Zaya to take on the milestones of being a young adult with confidence and joy,” the doc read. #SadNews Shanquella was part of a group that traveled from Charlotte to Cabo on October 28 and rented out a villa to celebrate a friend's birthday. Her mother, Salamondra Robinson, told Fox affiliate WJZY that she last spoke to her daughter moments after she had settled down for a meal with her friends. They agreed to talk the next day, but the phone call that she received instead was from one of Shanquella's friends, who told her that her daughter was sick and they were waiting for a doctor to arrive. 'They said she wasn't feeling well. She had alcohol poisoning,' Salamondra said. 'They couldn't get a pulse. Each one of the people that was there with her was telling different stories.' She later received a tragic call from one of Shanquella's friends claiming the young woman had died from food poisoning. 'No one told the same story, so I never believed them anyway,' Salomondra said. A man, who appears to be filming the sickening assault, taunts Shanquella 'can you at least fight back?' Shanquella attempts to get away from her attacker and replies 'no', before the woman slams her to the floor next to the bed. The woman then punches and knees her in the head. The woman then yells at Shanquella to 'get up, I'm tired of the ****.' A representative for Villa Linda 32, the property where the group was staying, told WJZY that the concierge contacted a doctor who attempted to revive Shanquella. She was declared dead at 3pm local time, reportedly about 15 minutes after she was beaten. A copy of the autopsy report obtained by Salamondra indicated that Shanquella's neck was broken. WJZY reported that the area in the death certificate that would show if Shanquella had been intoxicated only indicated that she 'was found unconscious in her living room'. The certificate also has an area where authorities note whether the death was accidental or violent. They inscribed 'yes' into the section, but did not choose accidental or violent.
