Maidaan Box Office: Ajay Devgn starrer is the 7th highest first week grosser of 2024

Filmmaker Amit Ravindernath Sharma’s Maidaan, which stars Ajay Devgn in the lead, is based on the golden period of Indian football in the early 1950s and it focuses on the celebrated Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. It became a rare movie to get high acclaim from critics and audience alike. However, this hasn’t proved to be enough as the movie has sunk at the box office by earning only Rs. 28.12 crores in its extended first week.

Box Office 2023 Recap: Adipurush, Tejas, Kuttey and Shehzada saw over 69% drop in collections on 1st Monday as compared to the opening day :Bollywood Box Office — Bollywood Hungama

Strikingly it is the Prabhas starrer Adipurush that emerges as the biggest loser, recording a massive 78.61% drop in collections. On its release, the Om Raut directorial raked in Rs. 36 cr, however post its opening weekend, on its first Monday the film saw just Rs. 7.70 cr. coming in. The less than appreciative audience feedback seems to have severely affected the business of the film. Coming in a close second is the Kangana Ranaut starrer Tejas that saw a drop of 74.17% with its business going from Rs. 1.20 cr. on opening day to Rs. 0.31 cr. on its first Monday. The third release of 2023 that saw over 70% drop in business on its first Monday is the Arjun Kapoor starrer Kuttey that saw its collections dwindle from Rs. 1 cr. to Rs. 0.30 cr. registering an exact 70% drop.

Following these three releases, the Kartik Aaryan starrer Shehzada and the multi starrer Khichdi 2 that witnessed nearly 70% drop in business. While Shehzada that raked in Rs. 6 cr. on opening day saw a 69.71% drop with Rs. 1.82 cr. coming in on its first Monday, Khichdi 2 saw a drop of 68.18% from Rs. 1.10 cr. to Rs. 0.35 cr.

With Adipurush, Tejas, Kuttey, Shehzada and Khichdi 2 rounding off the top 5 biggest losers at the box office, releases like the Akshay Kumar — Emran Hashmi starrer Selfiee, the Tiger Shroff starrer Ganapath — A Hero is Born, and the Aditya Roy Kapur starrer Gumraah claim the sixth seventh and eighth spot respectively. Selfiee saw a drop of 56.86% from Rs. 2.55 cr. to Rs. 1.10 cr, Ganapath dropped by 56.82% from Rs. 2.20 cr. to Rs. 0.95 cr, amd Gumraah saw a drop of 53.57% from Rs. 1.12 cr. to Rs. 0.52 cr.

While the world of cinema is often filled with surprises and uncertainties, the disappointing box office performances of Adipurush, Tejas, and Kuttey in 2023 highlight the importance of effective storytelling, audience engagement, and strategic marketing. La franchise Marvel réussit avec succès la transmission de relais après le décès prématuré de son acteur principal, Chadwick Boseman. Lors de sa sortie en 2018, Black Panther a fait trembler le box-office mondial. Plus de 1,3 milliard de dollars de recettes en salle, un énorme carton qui avait dépassé le simple cadre cinématographique : le film adapté du comics éponyme de Marvel est devenu un phénomène de société, un objet de fierté pour les populations africaines et afro-descendantes du monde entier. Sa résonance extraordinaire a été commentée, discutée et même parfois disputée par des intellectuels. La Panthère noire a rugi bien au-delà du Wakanda, pays africain imaginaire où l’action se déroule. Mais en 2020, un drame a frappé le casting du film : l’acteur principal, Chadwick Boseman est mort à 43 ans. Le second épisode de la franchise, Black Panther : Wakanda Forever, qui sort en France le 9 novembre, s’ouvre sur une scène où la brillante scientifique Shuri essaie désespérément de sauver T’Challa. Son frère ne lui avait rien dit de sa maladie. De la même façon, Chadwick Boseman n’avait pas révélé son cancer du côlon lors des tournages de ses derniers films. S’ensuit un hommage très touchant au personnage, indissociable de l’homme parti trop tôt. Course au vibranium Shuri ne se remet pas de cette disparition et sa mère, Ramonda devient reine. Les puissances mondiales veulent profiter de cette transition du régime pour s’emparer du métal à l’origine de l’avance technologique du Wakanda : le vibranium. En tentant de le dérober dans des bases secrètes et en explorant les quatre coins de la planète pour en trouver la trace. Un navire de guerre américain détecte le précieux métal mais surgit alors Namor, le souverain de Talokan, civilisation sous-marine inconnue.   Plus qu’un roi, le dieu serpent à plumes est vénéré par son peuple. Il se distingue par sa force, sa capacité à voler grâce à des ailes à ses chevilles et sa couleur de peau, blanche, alors que ses sujets sont bleus. Après avoir mis en déroute le bateau avec son armée, Namor se rend au Wakanda pour poser un ultimatum : livrer la scientifique qui a mis au point le détecteur de vibranium ou la guerre. La tension croît encore quand Namor veut imposer à Ramonda d’attaquer le reste du monde avant que celui-ci ne dispose un jour des moyens de les attaquer. Alliés ou ennemis, il ne lui laisse pas d’autre choix. Esclavage et colonialisme Namor veut protéger les siens et il a une raison personnelle pour détester les humains. Celle-ci – nous n’en dévoilerons pas les détails précis – remonte au temps des « Conquistadors » espagnols en Amérique du Sud et a aussi un rapport avec l’esclavage. La colonisation, il en est aussi plusieurs fois question à travers les piques wakandaise contre l’agent de la CIA Everett K. Ross, plusieurs fois surnommé « le colonisateur ». Ryan Coogler, réalisateur africain-américain, rappelle les pages sombres des vagues coloniales. La question de la réparation de ces tragédies se pose à travers la dualité Namor/Ramonda. Le souverain de Talokan, descendant d’une communauté maya du Yucatan, veut se venger des atrocités qu’il a subies et dont il a été témoin, à l’inverse de la reine du Wakanda. C’est le prolongement du conflit entre Killmonger et T’Challa, et il s’incarne aussi en Shuri. La princesse et fille s’oppose à la reine et mère, les antagonismes intimes et politiques se superposent, notamment, sur la question de la tradition, la jeune femme délaissant le culte des esprits au profit de la toute-puissante technologie. La transmission culturelle est mise en avant dans une scène finale sous la forme d’un rebondissement dont les productions Marvel ont le secret… Femmes de pouvoir Aussi bien au Wakanda qu’aux États-Unis, les femmes prennent nettement le pouvoir dans cette suite. Riri Williams, inventrice américaine géniale, affirme comme un symbole : « On peut être jeune, brillante et noire. » L’« empowerment » (empouvoirement) féminin qui a tardivement gagné les films de super-héros est clairement affiché. De même, l’africanisation de l’intrigue est plus prononcée. Everett Ross, de la CIA, n’a qu’un rôle anecdotique et, cette fois, c’est une jeune femme africaine-américaine de 19 ans qui se bat aux côtés des Wakandais pour sauver le monde. Mais Black Panther : Wakanda Forever reste avant tout un film d’action diablement efficace, porté par une bande originale marquée par le grand retour de Rihanna, après 6 ans de silence radio. Les 2 h 41 passent à la vitesse d’un jet de lance de la générale Okoye. On se demandait si Black Panther pourrait survivre sans perte de qualité à la mort de son rôle-titre. La réponse est oui. Shaitaan Box Office: Ajay Devgn starrer crosses Rs. 75 crores in 6 days, all set to enter Rs. 100 Crores Club this weekend

After being in theatres for six days, Shaitaan has achieved one major milestone, that of crossing Rs. 75 crores mark at the box office. The film opened quite well at Rs. 15.21 crores on the partial holiday of Maha Shivratri and ever since then has been quite stable. While Monday too held well at Rs. 7.81 crores, the collections hardly dropped till Wednesday when Rs. 6.27 crores came in.

The film has sustained rather well despite Ramzan being on and today too it would hang in there well with at least Rs. 5.75 crores on the cards. For a film like this which has its base in black magic, the only factor that could bring in such kind of big numbers was a notable star cast, and presence of Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan has made this happen. Otherwise, such films are typically low cost affairs with unknown/not so notable star cast and the best case scenario is to reach till Rs. 50 crores lifetime.

That number was actually surpassed in the opening weekend itself and now the film has reached Rs. 75.78 crores. Today, it will cross Rs. 80 crores mark and then over the weekend it will enter Rs. 100 Crores Club. The film will easily cross Rs. 125 crores in its lifetime and it would be the journey from there till Rs. 140 crores, which would be closely observed.

An actor is as good as his last Friday, and for Ranbir Kapoor this is certainly invaluable, especially with the release of his latest Animal. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga the bloody actioner that also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Rashmika Mandanna, the film created immense hype in the run-up to its release. In fact, Animal that struck a chord with the audience came with immense hope and anticipation. Living up to the same, Animal opened on a roaring note and continued to dominate the box office window over its opening weekend running.

Now after just four days at the box office, Animal that has been receiving immense appreciation in both the domestic and international markets has seen equally high collections coming in each day. At the domestic box office, Animal, which has proved to be unstoppable, is on a record-setting spree for Ranbir Kapoor.
