Back to talking about the Fantasy Fandom and the racism that tends to be part of it!

I genuinely think if Wyll were white he'd get way more attention and love. He'd have sparkle flower crown edits saying "My sweet cornball!!" "My boys got daddy issues!!". Also Warlock is a class beloved by many. And as someone who plays a warlock in bg3 having two of them fucking ROCKED, I always had spells at the ready. So really saying "buh! buh! two warlocks is just bad!" its really not, short rests and cantrips out the asshole really make it easy.

Anyway.

If Gale were black he would be fully ignored and people would, in masses, complain about how annoying he is, how useless he is, how he doesn't really fit in with the rest of the "way more interesting cast". How he's so unbearably straight because all he talks about is his ex.

Lemme keep on this though because if Shadowheart was a Black Person she would have been fucking Crucified for the way she talks about other races, other religions, and just in general the way you have to pull information out of her like pulling teeth. Also if she were a black woman she'd be reduced to "uncaring boss bitch who "dont need no man"" or "unbarable bitch who needs to be Killed"

Am I getting my point across enough?

Wyll was shafted by the game by having literally less content than the rest of the party. Wyll DOES have an interesting story. Wyll is also corny, he's funny, he's so sweet, and his conversations with Karlach are soooo great and yet it's all abandoned because he's generally viewed as "boring".

And by the way. You are allowed to like and dislike characters. But I see a lot of people side stepping the Fantasy Racism to say "but hes just boring thats why I dont like him". Like sure, if you gave Wyll an honest chance and still found him boring then that's your opinion and choice! HOWEVER!! We CANNOT ignore that he is being LEFT OUT of edits, of fan art, of character discussions. When I see posts that are the entire cast MINUS Wyll it tells me everything I need to know about you.

Also one last thing... I cannot imagine being Wyll's VA and seeing how many times you are being left out on purpose. How so few add your character to edits, or fan art. It has to be crushing to some extent, even if you expected it.

Reconstruction ended in the US in 1877, and during that year, as well as the years immediately post civil war, there was an especially huge push for black people to find loved ones who were sold off the other states or countries during slavery, especially those who had children fathered by their masters as their masters were the ones who sold off the child/ren or had the best information on finding them. People would send letters, put ads in newspapers, even take trips themselves to go find loved ones that they had lost due to the scurge that was slavery. And I keep thinking about Louis du pointe du lac, sending all those messages to find his daughter that was sent out of state by her white father

So Angry Birds Manga is a thing!

It's a lil thing that was released to help kids learn English

Other than the pages shown on the wiki, the only additional things for this I've been able to find are this

So yeah, pretty neat! If you don't care enough to look into the wiki page, I'll summarize the basic findings; basically a Japanese kid named Nana gets moved into an English speaking country due to her parents and she can't speak or understand English at all. Due to this she has no friends at all. But eventually she finds this rock necklace thing at school and it just summons Stella and now Stella is giving her English lessons.

I think some else summoned Gale and they're just doing something evil. One Japanese page on the book mentioned these English cards and that Nana has to find them, so maybe that's what the rectangles are?

charles vane’s character is compelling because of how he goes through life with the political lens of being formerly enslaved AND that experience is of course in and out of the show a radicalized one and a majority of enslaved people in the bahamas for this time would have been black and or indigenous to the areas. so when think about his character i have to think how much more of a punch he would have packed as a character and as a voice within the show if he had been written as a man of color.

#yes real charles vane was a white man but throughout the show people see him as depraved as an ANIMAL as a Savage #that language within the time of the show and now is racially charged language #and i have to ask what the show could have looked like not just with more people of color in the lead #but with the character that represents what was seen by the colonial forces as the most violent dangerous force of wrong-ness #was a man of color whose politics were doubly informed by being oppressed even while free as a pirate #it certainly would have been something #black sails #charles vane
