The Golden Trident: What Everyone Knows

Being an adventuring party with members of varied backgrounds and experiences, everyone has a little bit of information to offer when it comes to your latest destination. How each of you choose to share and use this information collectively is up to you.

What everyone knows:

It’s humid here, and somewhat tropical. There is some tourism because of the beaches and exotic species of plants and creatures in the region. There is less tourism here than on the Lake Coast, however, because of the dangerous creatures and the high tides.

The merpeople have ruled here for centuries. Other than Ash Valley and The Turtleneck, The Golden Trident is the only region that has enjoyed relative autonomy from nationwide affairs. This is largely due to the merpeople’s monopoly over the underwater caves and reefs where one of the base substances of healing potions, kolto, are found. The Golden Trident is not the only source of this substance, but constitutes about 75% of the countrywide supply. Unwilling to lose a hand in trading for such a vital resource, Falschegal’s leaders have deferred to the merpeople monarchs and looked the other way when it comes to The Golden Trident’s massive human rights violations. This was less the case when the Knight of Amabo was Chancellor, heavily encouraged under Kunt, and continuing with polite detachment under Cliffside.

It’s an open secret that The Golden Trident has a massive slave population used to harvest and refine kolto. It’s not clear where the merpeople get these slaves.

Most of the merpeople defer to whoever the ruler is. There have been some stories of challenges to the throne and to the issue of slavery, but none have been successful.

Most of the inhabitants on land defer to the merpeople, or at least are afraid of challenging them. They are known to have very powerful allies on land, both inside and outside of the Golden Trident, but it’s not clear who.

What Nalla knows

Many of the slavers you were previously tasked to apprehend, maim, and murder were capturing and transporting persons of various species and bringing them toward the Golden Trident. They primarily preyed upon non-human individuals in remote areas, especially poorer areas. It is not clear who the slavers were working for, or if they even knew who they were working for, though you’ve gotten some stray details out of a few of them before they died.

The slavers don’t really go into The Golden Trident, at least not beyond the forest that separates The Golden Trident from the Lake Coast. You’ve been told that slavers are typically given instructions to meet somebody at the Golden Trident edge of the forest who receives the caravans of slaves. The slavers are then paid for their services. Whoever is charged with meeting and paying the slavers usually pay what was originally agreed-upon and double-crossing isn’t much of an issue.

What Thea knows

Many of the refugees you have smuggled back into other parts of the country have either escaped The Golden Trident or were rescued before being taken to The Golden Trident. You’ve gathered some stories and descriptions of the region, though nothing specific in that regard; you’ve mostly heard about what happens to disobedient slaves (they’re left to drown in cages on the beach at high tide) and how few people survive their attempts to escape via both land and sea.

The beaches are tranquil af at low tide, or so you’ve heard.

What Nari knows

Over the years, you have overheard your father discussing and negotiating over “shipments” to The Golden Trident. After hearing the others discuss what they know of the region, you wonder if this is related to all of screaming and crying you’ve heard coming from covered wagons you’ve seen leaving the Cliffside Estate.

Over the years, you have overheard your father talking about “shipments” received from The Golden Trident. He always seemed to direct these shipments to a nearby location somewhere other than the Cliffside Estate.

What Sera knows

There have been whispers of underground and black market groups trying to go to the source and harvest the kolto themselves. All attempts have been unsuccessful, as the underwater caves and reefs are heavily guarded.

Though you’ve never been to The Golden Trident, you’ve stolen and smuggled your fair share of kolto, both refined and unrefined. The refined, pure form is a white, shiny substance of soap-like texture. Unrefined, the substance is caked in rock and mixed with other substances and minerals. You’ve also seen your fair share of fake refined and unrefined kolto that sellers thought you would be stupid enough to buy or pass along.

What’s your favourite song(s) to sing/hum? Currently Landlady

What’s your favourite flower/tree/plant? I collect houseplants and currently have 16. My fiddle leaf fig is my fave of that bunch. As for trees, huge conifers. The bigger the better.

Favourite colours? Dark colors, blues and greens.

What do you always doodle? I...don’t really doodle.

How do you take your coffee/tea? Ok, I’m a retired independent cafe manager so bare with me. Coffee can be black if it’s high quality and fresh roasted. If not, I’ll take a splash of non-dairy milk that won’t curddle in it. Tea depends on the type. Lately I’m into Barry’s gold blend black. I also like matcha and chai lattes, or earl grey with a splash of non-dairy milk.

Favourite candle scent? This is v important to me. We keep a stock lined up on the fireplace mantle. I prefer them to be woodsy or masculine.

Sunrise or Sunset? Depends on where I’m watching it and what else is going on.

What perfume do you wear? I don’t wear any, but I do use a frankincense and myrrh lotion everyday and that scent lingers for sure.

Favourite quote? Ohhh probably something by Brene Brown about vulnerability. If you haven’t read her books or at least watched her TED talks, do.

Favourite self care routine(s)? Baths, and as of late doing some pretty simple activities but without the toddler glued to my side like you know, going to the bathroom, making my breakfast, etc.

Fuzzy socks or house slippers? I have a pair of sheepskin grandpa slippers that I’ve had for, no joke, 18 years that I wear daily. When they finally give out it’s going to be pretty dramatic.

What colour are your eyes? Brown

What’s your favourite eye colour on others? This isn’t really something I think about or have a preference for.

Favourite season? Why? I love the change of seasons period and I love things about all of them but spring and fall are my favorites. Spring bc it makes me feel alive again. Fall because it’s cozy af.

Cheek, neck, or nose kisses? Neck.

What does your happy place look like? The forest, anywhere I can try new things, deep in the moment of play with my kid, at a really good restaurant on a date with my wife.

Favourite breed of dog? German Shorthaired Pointer.

Do you ever want to be married? if so, what colours would you pick for your wedding theme? Did that 5.5 years ago on a beach in St Martin with green and white accent colors. We had a reception a month later at my in laws outside with more green and white decor and our cake sat atop a piece of tree trunk. And I hula hooped in a white mini dress. That’s the last night I drank and I have fond memories :)

Eleven questions

I’m incredibly late with answering this, but it took me a while and then the whole Kingsman SDCC thing happened in-between. So no idea if people are still interested in this, but now that I’ve written it I also want to post it. :)

1. Describe your least favourite character.

In general, the pointless love interests, the boring villains, the almighty and flawless heroes, the dumb and helpless females

(And just in case, the opposite – my favourite characters are the caring doctors, the smart geeks, and the loners, misfits and underdogs *g*)

2. A go-to comfort meal/snack/treat.

When my Mum crumbs meat or veggies to fry them she always makes a small fried bread/omelette from the rest of the eggs and breadcrumbs. She adds salt, pepper and some cheese. It’s an old Silesian tradition, my Gran always did that and we still do it today. It means home and comfort for me and I love it and I’ll defend it from every other hungry person in the house. It’s mine. My precious. Me eats it alone! *eg*

Apart from that – Avocado. Chickpeas. White chocolate. Chocolate digestives.

3. Describe a perfect vacation, with no limit on funds or how long you can stay there.

I go there quite often, but still, London. It’s been my happy place for years. And from there I’d go to Cornwall, to the Lake District, the Brecon Beacons and the Highlands. With unlimited funds I’d take my parents with me or my BFF, and we’d spend lots of time visiting all the manors and country houses!

4. Do you listen to podcasts? If so, what are you favourites?

Listened to the Three Patch Podcast in the Sherlock fandom, but only a few times. Not really my thing in general.

5. One widely accepted fanon headcanon that you just don’t agree with?

Hmm, I like most of the fanon and can live with the rest. Not so keen on Percival being Roxy’s Dad. Distantly related, yes, but I can’t imagine him as her father.

6. One story/movie/song/album/piece of art that resonated with you and that you will never be able to forget?

There’s so much I could write here, but I have to make a decision, so:

Stories, movies – too many to count!

Song and album – R.E.M., Automatic for the people, “Everybody hurts”. My fav forever band, and that song saved my life during a very low phase I went through in my teens. Oh, and Jeff Buckley’s version of Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Listening to that for the first time was a revelation.

Piece of art: My favourite picture is Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer above the sea of fog. I could stare at it for hours. Also, seeing Van Gogh’s Sunflowers for real in the National Gallery had blown my mind and I’ll go to look at it every time I’m in London.

When I was a teen there was an exhibition in my city with photographs from Nan Goldin. Our art teacher took us there and most of my classmates weren’t prepared for this rather explicit art. For me though a gate had opened, I finally understood the art of photography, and it’s been a passion of mine ever since.

7. If you have a day off, no responsibilities or pressing matters to attend to: what are you doing for the rest of the day?

Three words – Lego, AO3 and tumblr.

8. Favourite past trend that you are most nostalgic for?

I honestly never really followed trends a lot, so I’ve no idea what to say here. ^^ What I really really miss is the way they made computer games in the Nineties. Give me a good old fashioned Adventure with tricky puzzles and I’m happy.

9. What’s a hobby/skill you’ve always wanted to learn?

Playing the harp or the violin. And archery. Might still try the latter one day.

10. Where do you see yourself in ten years?

So sorry, but I have to skip this one... I don’t dream much anymore. The only thing I can say is: Hopefully still surrounded by the people who I love more than my own life.

11. What was your first fandom? First OTP? First NOTP? Any memorable experiences from those early days?

My first fandom was Star Trek, around 1991. I always blame my Dad for me becoming a geek because it was him who told me to watch TOS. :) Wrote my first story in a notebook when I was twelve, no OTP though then, it was rather Mary Sue-ish. ^^ Then we got our first computer, and I had moved on to DS9. More stories, now on computer, still no OTP but lots of h/c. Then we got internet in 1996, and I was having some sort of epiphany – there was this world-wide phenomenon called fanfiction! I was not alone! An amazing discovery! Saw my first slashfic at that time, Garak/Bashir, and I was 16 and all like ‘ewww’ and backed away from it (so that was probably my first NOTP).

Being a Tolkien fan for years I easily fell for the LOTR films later and wrote FF for that and published my first stories. Arwen/Aragorn was my first fandom OTP I guess. Saw more slashfic, Legolas/Aragorn, and I was still not convinced, but I read one. While I never shipped that pairing, slashfic in general suddenly started to look appealing. Well, and today I say “all I’ve learnt about sex, I’ve learnt from fanfic”, because those years were really educational… ;)

Next fandom was Stargate Atlantis (OTP McShep), my online fan-life started in earnest then with the Gateworld forum and LJ, then Torchwood (OTP Ianto/Jack), then Sherlock (OTP Johnlock). And here I am now, in the Kingsman fandom, with Hartwin and Merhartwin being my OTPs.

1. Who are your favourite artists/actors/fictional characters?

I admire Viggo Mortensen both as an actor and as an artist. And Colin Firth has been one of my favourite actors for many years. Closely followed by Chris Pine and Matt Damon. I also think Meryl Streep is a goddess.

Fav fictional characters: Aragorn, Sherlock, Mr Darcy and tons of others, among them right now Harry Hart :)

2. What are your favourite tv shows/movies?

Fav TV shows from the past: Star Trek DS9, Torchwood, MASH, SGA, Sherlock, Flying Doctors, Diagnosis Murder, Queer as folk

Recent TV shows: Agents of shield, Poldark, The Handmaid’s tale

3. What/Who do you fear?

Dying alone

4. What are you looking forward to the most?

At the moment my summer holiday and Kingsman 2.

5. What’s your biggest pet peeve?

The acceptance of ignorance you see nowadays. It’s ok to lack knowledge, but one shouldn’t be proud of it. It’s no badge of honour to boast about. There’s something you don’t know – go and look it up.

6. If you could make one thing canon in your fandom, what would it be?

7. Do you hoard usernames?

Nope. In fact I’m known for having the same username for decades and almost everywhere…

8. Coke or Pepsi? Tea or Coffee? KFC or McDonald’s?

If at all, Coke. Coffee, with tea being a close second. McDonald’s, but rather Burger King!

9. What would make today better?

Less humidity. Apart from that it’s been a pretty fine day. :)

10. What’s your favourite scent?

Privet when it’s in bloom.

11. What’s your proudest achievement?

Finishing my university degree (MA)

2) What is your OTP (and you can only pick 1!) and why?

Currently Hartwin. It just… happened. Love the fact that they’re so different and yet so similar, and that there’s tons of chemistry between them.

3) What is your favorite thing about Colin Firth?

His smile. Absolutely.

4) What’s your favorite book and how would you recommend it to someone who’s never heard of it?

That is in fact Atwood’s “The handmaid’s tale” and has been for years. I would recommend it as a book that’s become scarily relevant again in the light of the current political situation in the US.

5) Where is your favorite place to read?

Used to be my bed, but the older I get, the less comfortable it becomes. So today it’s my desk chair. And Parliament Hill when I’m in London.

6) What was your last impulse buy?

Clothes. I have way too many clothes… send help! Or Livia Firth, so that she can rip me a new one. Or Colin so that he can rip my clothes off… ok, wait, I need to stop.

7) What is/was your favorite subject in school?

That was English and Art

8) Are you an introvert or extrovert?

Introvert, INFJ. And an HSP.

9) Do you have any trips/vacations planned this year?

Most likely London again in August, and a short trip within Germany to visit two wonderful friends in October

10) What would you do if you saw Colin Firth walking on the other side of the street from you?

In my dreams I’d work up the courage to walk over to him and smile and say hello and ask politely for an autograph… depends on the situation though. So in reality I’d most likely try not to bother him to respect his privacy and just stare at him from afar… while silently hyperventilating

11) I probably know you because we’re both into Kingsman, so when did you first watch Kingsman and what drew you to it?

When it came out I saw many posts about it on my tumblr dash and had no idea what it’s about. Thought it must be a big thing though and decided to watch it one day, but ignored it then on tumblr in order not to spoiler myself accidentally. It was on my list for a while and I finally bought the DVD in November 2016. Watched it with my parents. Was hooked in a second. This rarely happens to me, but I liked that the movie didn’t take itself overly serious but was still believable, and that the story had no loose ends. Also, suits and Savile Row (love a man in a good suit), and Colin Firth. Sold. The rest is history.

I know I’m not gonna get any asks for this and I’m bored, so I’m gonna fill this out for my OC Bennett bc I do what I want

1. What do they smell like? I imagine him having a woodsy sort of smell, like pine and fresh rain and wildflowers. A very fresh scent.

2. What is their voice like? Smooth and sweet; it’s on the higher side for someone his age, but not outrageously high either.

3. What is their biggest motivator? Does his stubbornness count as a motivator? He likes to prove people wrong, so if they say he can’t do something, you bet your ass he’s going to do it.

4. What is their most embarrassing memory? When he was young, he fell asleep in class and woke up to several insults written on his arms and face in marker. He tried to play it off, but by the time he made it home, he was in tears because he’d been so embarrassed.

5. How do they deal with/react to pain? He has a very low pain tolerance, and usually doesn’t deal very well.

6. What do they like to wear? Simple, comfortable clothes. Usually jeans and a t-shirt or sweatshirt, or a tank top if the weather’s warm enough. Wardrobe consists of blacks and pastel colors.

7. Which of their relationships have impacted them most positively? Definitely his relationship with Seth ( @xblackblossomsx )

8. What’s the weirdest thing they’ve ever eaten? Eel. It’s ruined any other seafood for him.

9. Describe the way that they sleep. Restlessly, constantly tossing and turning when alone due to childhood trauma. More often than not, he hardly sleeps. However, he sleeps much better when with someone/being held. It’s comforting.

10. What is their favorite food/kind of food? He loves sweets.

11. What do they feel most insecure about? Mostly his personality, as well as his ‘cute’ appearance. He thinks it makes him look weak.

12. How do they like to dress? Very casual; hardly ever dresses up.

13. How do they react to feelings of guilt? He often pushes those who’re close to him away and tries to isolate himself when he feels guilty; that’s when he needs his loved ones most. If not to talk sense into him, then to comfort him.

14. How do they react to/deal with betrayal? He doesn’t take kindly to it. At first, if he’s close with the person, he’ll be in shock, and be a little hurt that they played him so easily. Then the need for revenge kicks in, and he stops at nothing to get it.

15. What is their greatest achievement? Probably surviving for as long as he has on his own.

16. What are they like when they’ve gotten too little sleep? Very grumpy and moody. Easy to snap, emotional.

17. What are they like when they’re drunk? Depending on how much he’s had to drink, he can either be highly flirtatious, or rambunctious and ready to take on the really buff guy who could more than likely snap him like a twig.

18. What kind of music do they enjoy? Upbeat and fast-paced, mostly, although he does enjoy acoustic. Style doesn’t matter to him all that much.

19. Are they right or left handed? Right handed.

20. Fears? Losing those who are close to him, abandonment, complete isolation.

21. Favorite kind of weather? Sunny and warm, though not too warm; the type of day where you could wear a jacket and not get too hot or take it off and not be too cold. Not humid nor dry, the ‘perfect weather’.

22. Favorite color? Varies between greens and reds.

23. Do they collect anything? He used to collect little paper stars when he was little; his mother would make them for him.

24. Do they prefer either hot or cold weather more? If it came to outrageously hot or cold, definitely cold.

25. What is their eye color? Green, like the green of leaves right before they start to turn. Not neon, but not dull either.

28. Are they happy where they are currently? Sure.

29. Are they a morning person? Not really; he’d much prefer to sleep in.

31. Are they more messy or more organized? He tries to stay organized, but more often than not his attempts fail.

32. Pet peeves? He absolutely hates being underestimated and written off as weak.

35. Least favorite color? Bright orange.

37. When was the last time they cried? The last time he slept alone; woke up from a nightmare.

39. Tell us about one of the times they got injured? Shortly after his parents died and his brother disappeared, he was trying to make food and accidentally burnt his hand.

42. Do they have any bad habits? When he gets nervous he has a tendency to scratch at his arms (or legs if he’s sitting.) He also picks at scabs a lot.

43. Why might someone dislike them? For something he said, or they’re simply jealous of him more than likely; he tries his best to be a good person, which means he’s hard on himself and doesn’t want to mess up.

44. Why might someone love them? He’s affectionate, he puts those he cares about before him and is almost always there for them.

45. Do they believe in ghosts? Of course he does.

46. Is there anyone they would trust with their lives? Two people.

47. Are they romantically interested in anyone? Pffft ya.

52. Do they have any family? His mother and father were murdered, his brother is alive but in conspiracy with the enemy, which he has no clue about.

56. What Hogwarts House would they be in? Either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor more than likely.

58. Do they ever have nightmares? If so, what about? Yes. Usually about his parents’ deaths, or being helpless as his loved ones are killed before him.

59. What are their views on death? Death scares him. It’s taken a lot of those he loved away, he’s afraid of it.

60. What is something that they’re sure to laugh at? A horrible pun.

61. When bored, how do they pass time? Tinkering with electronics or reading.

75. How patient are they? He’s somewhat patient. Again, it depends on the situation.

77. Favorite insult? Do they insult people often? His go-to insult is “idiot” or “asshole”. He doesn’t insult people often and mean it, but he does when he’s playing around. It’s more of an affectionate gesture.

79. What do they do when they learn about other people’s fears? He respects their fears, but if they want, he’s more than willing to help them work through them.

I haven’t done something so silly and self indulgent in a while. I have a plate of homemade pizza rolls, I just finished an audiobook, and I’m ready to go.

Last person you watched a movie with? Omg. Probably Liam, and I haven’t watched a movie with him in at least a couple of months. #LDRLife

Have you been disappointed in the past three days? Yeah. I was going to go camping with my co-worker this weekend, and the weather really pooped out on me :/.
