[Bilingual post] Podcast Ep.3 Artists' Mental Health and Social Media /ポッドキャストEp3.アーティストのメンタルヘルスとソーシャルメディア
I uploaded the third episode of my bilingual podcast. This time, I talked a theme that’s very close to my heart: artists’ mental health and social media. The definition of ‘artist’ here is anyone who expresses themselves through any art forms, no matter whether financial profit is involved. I’m not a believer that you’re only an artist only if you make money of your art. I analysed the reasons why social media could be toxic for artists' mental health and suggested three tips for softening the emotional toll.
I hope you will enjoy the episode. The podcast is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts as well.

what kinds of stuff do you do for fun? :3
Have you heard of this game called ULTRAKILL????
But seriously, Char spends frankly a lil bit to much time playing that game, its REALY good It also likes to draw in its spare time! (currently drawing for a tumblr mutual and a few other friends as well ;3) Something it likes doing IRL with friends is going out to places to eat! (shocker, it knows) Its a fun way to catch up and chat and it would do it more often if more of its friends lived closer by It used to play Chess more often, but its hard finding someone on Char's skill level since most folks skill levels are: They dont really know how to play or are Gods amongst players
Thx for the ask!! Homph

Artfight 2023 Collection
This year’s Artfight has come and gone, and it was a pretty active year all things considered. Sent out a lot of attacks, and even got a lot of defenses, especially for Kilua this year. Since a lot of work went into the pieces I did this month, here’s each of the pieces I did for people.
Keep in mind that I was on Team Vampire, so next to the title of the piece, i’ll have a number that corresponds to the person it was for, attributed to near the bottom of the post, and in parentheses, a indicator on which type of piece it was, friendly fire, attack, revenge, etc. Without further ado... here’s what I did this year!
#Piece 1 - 20th Century Boys (Attack) Ft. Clarenze and Liam Signhson
Tumblr media
#Piece 2 - Sweeping Blade of Grass (Attack) Ft. Parsley
Tumblr media
#Piece 3 - Ballin’ (Attack) Ft. Slim Ridland (Ft. Daily Pyoro)
Tumblr media
#Piece 4 - An Unlikely Trio (Attack) Ft. Ivy, Josie, and Wynne
Tumblr media
#Piece 5 - Reaper in the Rain (Revenge) Ft. Drizzle
Tumblr media
#Piece 6 - Salty Vaporwave (Revenge) Ft. Jewel
Tumblr media
#Piece 7 - Hat Trick (Friendly Fire) Ft. Ferris and Mochi
Tumblr media
#Piece 8 - Flower-Tailed Forest Dweller (Attack) Ft. Matcha
Tumblr media
#Piece 9 - Sunflower Chu (Attack) Ft. Poppet (PMD ver.)
Tumblr media
#Final Piece - Fluffy Aeromancer Dragon (With a Battleax) Ft. Aero

Last Thoughts of the Event:
This year’s artfight I think was one of my favorites i’ve had so far (and i’ve only been around since 2021), but not without some added anxiety.
Some of that anxiety was expected stuff from artfight, like not being able to hit a couple people because I ran out of time and energy, and also dealing with artist burnout a couple time. But some other stuff was personal life stuff, and well... twitter becoming more and more of a trashfire.
That all being said, this year was also really fun. One of my favorite things to do over an artfight is find some way to improve on or just experiment with my art since I don’t really do “big colored pieces” very often, and this year certainly helped push that a little further. I experiment a lot with shading and backgrounds, and I think in hindsight, things like Pieces 2, 5, 6, 8, and Final ended up being my favorites to look at just because the colors and background all just work.
Some of them also allowed me to think up a couple ideas of scenarios to put the characters in that added to how I went about the piece. Pictures 4 and 7 especially clarify that, considering they depict a scenario or even a potential group dynamic that’s pretty fun to think on.
Though what also was crazy was that I got attacked a lot more than I was expecting to going into this year. Like I expected at least a couple if I was actively participating, but I got hit with... well 7 technically, but one was a mass attack Volt was included in, not directed at me, so 6 officially. It was a neat surprise to keep waking up to a few of them, and a lot of them focused on Kilua, she got a lot of love this year. (dw, Volt got a couple too actually). I’m really happy about that, and I love all the drawings people did, they all capture something about the original designs that I love, while translated into their own styles. Dibnibs in specific went and even added backgrounds to them after the event passed, and they (not just mine but a couple of the others I saw) look awesome.
Whatever the case though, the event went really well. I got quite a few pieces sent my way, and I was able to put out a lot of pieces, and a lot of those pieces I really like how they came out. I was on Team Vampire this year, but I think I can say i’ll win either way because I only was on there because a lot of my mutuals were going werewolf, and I wanted to have opposition. That and, I just like Werewolves more.
If anyone has questions for me about anything related to their art, my dms are open. And with that, thanks for a really fun year to everyone who participated.

Sydney Rental ad is Brutally Mocked Online Following Bizarre Photoshopping
A rental advertisement for two-bedroom homes in Sydney has been slammed online for its use of 'cartoon furniture'.
After the Domain listing was posted on Facebook, the house on Belmore Street in Rozelle became a laughing stock
The house is described as 'brand new' with 'carpet all over' with a 'separate lounge' as well as a neat kitchen two bedrooms, a bathroom and the garden is well-maintained.
A Sydney rental advertisement for a house that has two bedrooms was mocked on the internet because it featured "cartoon furniture".
After the listing was put up on Facebook by Humans of Eastwood Daily, the apartment on Belmore Street in Rozelle became an internet sensation.
The photos tell the opposite, with fake furniture being displayed throughout the home.
The living room is decorated with a bright red sofa with a cartoon fireplace and TV.
The most drastic move that a retail assistant and her family take after... Finance expert shares five of the most overlooked taxes...
'She isn't a natural presenter!' Amanda from Yorkshire Farm...
The furniture that computers create throughout the house, including the backyard dining table, bedroom, is also computer-generated.
The post went viral and hundreds people wrote comments, joking that the listing was like playing a computer game.
The house is described as being 'brand new' and has 'carpet throughout' with a 'separate lounge' as well as well-designed kitchen two bedrooms with a bathroom and a courtyard. The furniture was taken from photoshopped
The photos , however, tell a different story. They show fake photos that computers have taken all over the home and garden.
'Wanna play sims?' One person asked.
Another said, "The metaverse exists now." Art talk
"He had a mate who knew someone who could make it cheaper ...' and he joked about it.
"Reminds me of the nightmare I have, where I am trapped in a pool or a burning house without a way out. My karma for how I dealt with my Sims 20 years ago", wrote another.
"Comes with NFT furniture," said one.
In the living room , there was a bright red couch, with cartoon fireplace and a TV. The dining table, garden , and bedroom furniture were all computer generated too
LJ Hooker, a real estate agent, advertised the property and admitted that it was an inside job. Mary Aidonas, a realtor said to Yahoo News Australia that it was her little fake furniture. She admitted she wasn't an expert in graphic design, but decided to give the idea a go.
'Is this is from Minecraft or Minecraft?' another person asked.
LJ Hooker, a real estate agent, advertised the property, and admitted that it was an inside job.
Mary Aidonas, a realtor, said to Yahoo News Australia that it was her little fake furniture. She admitted that she wasn't an expert in graphic design but gave it a try.
'It is taken from Paint the latest Paint and you are able to select furniture, so it was what came up", she said.
People laughed that the house looked like a 'early noughties video game' and people talking about it as Sims and Minecraft
The home is covered in fake furniture, which includes bizarre signs, and fireplaces, and numerous sofas
'I stretched it out and I thought, "oh it looks alright" at the moment, and I thought we could get some attention for it, since the property has been inactive for quite a long time.'
She appears to have taken the reaction in good faith,, saying there's no such thing as 'bad press'.
I didn't realize it would get this kind of response.
Someone has already sent an email her, and she asks, "why does the furniture look like it's taken from a video game released in early 2000s."
"Well, maybe that's where the application was able to get it."
Earlier this month, real estate agent Property Gurus South Australia left viewers in awe over its bizarre photoshopping. The four-bedroom brick home was advertised by the agent in Elizabeth Downs, North Adelaide for $350,000.
Property Gurus South Australia, an agency for real estate that has left people stunned by its bizarre photoshopping earlier in the month.
The agent advertised a four bedroom brick house in Elizabeth Downs, north Adelaide for $350,000.
But the listing has now been viewed by thousands of homeowners mocking how poorly the property's lush lawns in the front and back appears to be.
'That's the new strain of grass known as 'Chernobyl', you should see it at night time,' one house-hunter quipped - referring to the Ukrainian town where a nuclear power plant melted down in 1986.

Historical and Modern Use of Tracing and Reference For Art
There is an ideal image that people think of when they are asked what an artist does. To many, the artist simply grabs a pencil, pen, or other medium, and creates masterpieces with just their tool of choice and their imagination. This is what causes people to say that artists are “cheating” if the artist is spotted using references.
Well, what many people (both artists and not) don’t know is that art has a long history of so called “cheating.” Today I am going to be talking about both using references and tracing in a historical sense, and a modern one.
References:
Artist often collect many images when something in it inspires them. It could be the folds in clothing, a color pallet, a pose, an expression, or many other things, but the artist takes those reference images, and combines them into the work of art they are picturing. This saves time in trying to get everything just right, but it can also add fine detail that might be missed otherwise.
When artists like Leonardo Da Vinci started taking part in human dissections, yes, learning how the body worked was some of the goal, but the other part of the goal was so that he would have his own drawings and notes of body structures to reference while creating. He still got some anatomy aspects wrong, but his research and reference material gave us some of his realist looking artworks.
When an artist uses “direct reference,” that means they are creating something while using a single reference source, such as an image or a model. For example, the Mona Lisa was painted with a model (Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo) sitting posing for it, and animation giants, such as Disney, used live-models while animating.
youtube
Note to Artists: If you like to use direct (one image) reference, do not use another artists (including photographers) work. If you directly copy from another artist, it feels like theft. Instead, use free reference image websites, or take your own photos.
Many artists think that any photo on the internet (specifically google) are free to use, but that is not true, and can lead you into legal trouble. In fact, there are companies that purposely spread their photos online so that they can sue people who use them.
It might sound hard to get caught, but if you are accurate enough in your copy, then it could show up in a reverse image search.
Tracing
Tracing has to be the most frowned upon method of creating, but even it is used by professionals and has a long history for famous artists. Yes, tracing another artists work is wrong if your goal is a direct copy, but there are other ways to trace as well.
Some artists trace photography poses to create basic figures (almost stick figures) to use. Why? Well, it saves time in trying to get a pose just right.
Other artists, especially comic book artists, will trace their own work. Let’s say you are creating a comic book and you need a side profile of your character, and have drawn one in the past of that same character. Well, instead of starting from scratch again, you can trace your own past image, and add in the other aspects of the scene on top of it. This is something even Disney has done historically.
youtube
One of the most well known ways for painters to “trace” was once the Camera Obscura. Put simply, it is a creation that projects images onto a wall (more on how it works here) and it was used for many famous paintings.
For example, it is suspected that Johannes Vermeer used the camera obscura to help make his works so life-like, that some could be mistaken for photography.
Tumblr media
Today, many artists also trace, especially webcomic artists. To save time, they create or download 3D models, pose them as needed for the scene, then trace the models. Webcomics often update on a weekly bases, so it is very important that they are able to produce panels quickly. Tracing helps those artists focus on keeping up with those timelines, instead of spending many hours on designing a car that readers might not even notice.
Other comic artists regularly snap pictures of features in their city that can later be used in a panel.
A Note To Artists:
You can trace your own photography or your own artwork, but tracing the artwork(including photos) of others can lead you into legal trouble.
For example, the artist(Shepard Fairey) of the now well-known poster of Obama, was sued for copying from a photograph. The artist was found guilty.
To play it safe, use 3d models (either online or physical ones, like body-chan), free stock images (read the copyright info and use agreements), or take your own photos.
If you do end up tracing the work of another artist(which is a common learning method) don’t post it online or sell it.

This Minecraft Mod YouTuber Turned Bees into Flying Steves
Minecraft mobs are, on whole pretty cute. Sure the Warden is the kind of face only mothers could be proud of, but there's no denying the adorable nature of the Allay. Then, a Minecraft mod YouTuber named RaineyX decided that Minecraft simply isn't cursed enough, and took it upon them to make it better.
RaineyX has a number of videos on Minecraft mobs, usually tweaking their looks to be more realistic, or re-creating them as characters from other games. RaineyX decided enough was enough. They wanted to make Minecraft look bad by warping all mobs. Some of these are straightforward things, like making the spiders very long; others are a little more unsettling.
Before we move on to the more terrifying ones, let's start with bees. The first mob RaineyX changes up is the humble Minecraft bee. You know, those cute little things that move around? They're all Steve now. Watching an entire swarm of Steves flying around is strange, possibly terrifying, and perhaps even life-changing. Who's to say?
The Pyramid Head treatment gives Creepers a touch of Pyramid Head, with all of them becoming sentient and walking pyramids. It's not nice and, as RaineyX asks themselves what's wrong with them? There's skeleton sheep and the giant Enderdragon dog. It's a bizarre series of changes which result in a strange bug in which the Endermen disappear, rendering the game more or less unbeatable.
Despite all of this, the main mob that's still haunting us is the Minecraft Lego pig from a few months ago. Art Talk What is it that makes it have Lego human hands? What does it want from us? Why does it appear whenever the lights go out?
