Post 9/11 Trivia
Most folks on this site were either children on September 11, 2001, or weren’t even born yet.  But America went crazy for about a year afterwards.  Here’s some highlights that I remember that might not be in your history books:
There was national discussion on whether or not Halloween should be canceled because…fuck if I know why.  After planes crashed into buildings in NYC it follows that 6-year-olds in Iowa shouldn’t be allowed to dress up like Batman and ask their neighbors for candy, I guess.  (Halloween wasn’t canceled, by the way.)
On a similar note, people asked if comedy - any sort of comedy - was appropriate anymore, ever.
People sold shitty parachutes to suckers “in case your building gets attacked and you have to jump out the window.” There were honest-to-God news reports warning people not to jump out of the window with shitty mail-order parachutes because they wouldn't work.
As a follow-up to the attacks, someone mailed anthrax to some prominent politicians and news anchors - you know, famous people - along with some badly-written notes about “you cannot stop us, death to America, Allah is good” and after that every time some random dumbass found a package in the mail they didn’t recognize they thought that the terrorists were targeting them, too.
Everyone was similarly convinced that their town was going to be the next target, even if they were a little town in the middle of nowhere. "Our town of Bumblefuck, South Dakota (population 690) has the largest styrofoam pig statue west of the Mississippi! Terrorists might fly planes into that too! It's a prime target!"
People started taping up their windows and trying to make their houses or apartments airtight out of fear of chemical and biological attacks. There were news reports warning people that turning your house into an airtight box was a bad idea because, y'know, you need air to breathe.
"[X] supports terrorism!" and “if we do [X], the terrorists win!” were used as arguments for everything.  "Some rich Arab you never heard of donated to his organization that backs Hamas which backs al-Queda, and also owns stock in a holding company that has partial ownership of the Pringles company, so if you eat Pringles you're supporting terrorism!" "The terrorists want to tear down our freedoms and our way of life and rule us through fear! Eating what you want is one of our freedoms as Americans! If you're afraid to eat Pringles, the terrorists win!" (I promise you that this sort of argument is in no way hyperbole.) (This argument is how Halloween was saved, by the way.  “If we cancel Halloween, the terrorists win!”)
People worked 9/11 into everything, and I mean everything, whether it was appropriate or not.  If you went to the grocery store the tortilla chips would remind you to support the troops on the packaging. Used car sales would be dedicated to our brave first responders. You couldn't wipe your ass without the toilet paper rolls reminding you to never forget the fallen of 9/11, and again, this is not hyperbole. My uncle, who lived in Ohio and had never been to New York except to visit once in the 70′s, died of a stroke about 8 months after 9/11, and the priest brought up the attacks at the eulogy.
On a similar local note, on the day of 9/11, after the towers went down, gas stations in my home town immediately jacked up gas prices.  The mayor had the cops go around and force them to take them back down.  I doubt any of that was legal.
Before 9/11, Christianity in America - and religion in general - was on a downward swing, with reddit-tier atheism on the upswing. Religion was outdated superstition from a bygone age. The day after 9/11? Every single church was PACKED. (This wasn't a bad thing, but the power-hungry on the Evangelical Right saw this as a golden opportunity to grab power and influence.)
EDIT: By Popular Demand - Freedom Fries. I initially left these off because they came a couple years after the initial panic and most people thought they were kind of absurd (and I don't recall anyone really going along with it other than maybe some local diners here and there). France didn't want to get involved in our world policing so some folks were like "TRAITORS!" and wanted to call french fries "Freedom Fries" instead, so as to stick it to the French.
Besides dumb shit like that…it’s really hard to overstate how completely the national mood and character changed in the span of a day, or how much of the current culture war is a result of the aftermath. (9/11 was the impetus for the sharp rise in power of the Evangelical Right, who made themselves utterly odious and the following backlash helped the rise of the current Progressive Left, for instance.)

Michigan just gave us the rhetorical weapon that could push Biden and the DNC to turn their backs on Israel.
Okay so this is amazing news. Michigan was going to be a key state in the push to get Biden, and the DNC as a whole, to start pressuring Israel, and they have just proven that they have that power.
Background: Michigan is a swing state, and it has 16 votes in the electoral college. Winning Michigan was a major factor in Biden's win back in 2020, and much of that rested on the Arab-American vote. It was also a major factor in Hillary Clinton's loss to Donald Trump in 2016. She lost the state by ten thousand, seven hundred votes.
Praxis: For obvious reasons, Arab-Americans are incredibly upset with Biden's support for Israel, and support in that demographic has gone from 59% in the 2020 election to less than 17% now. As a form of protest, Arab-Americans in Michigan started a campaign to get voters to check "uncommitted" in the Democratic primary. This is an actual box that can be checked, though some less-organized pushes also suggested writing in 'ceasefire' like New Hampshire primary voters did.
The goal was to get at least 10,000 'uncommitted' votes, as that is how many Hillary lost by.
As Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, the first Arab mayor of this majority-Arab city, said:
"We're not sizable enough to make a candidate win, but we're sizable enough to make a candidate lose."
(Source: NPR, 2/25/24)
Result:
As of 10:49 PM EST, 2/27, there are thirty-nine thousand uncommitted votes, according to CNN, which is doing live coverage.
NPR was reporting 30k at 10:14.
As a caveat, New York Times is saying that each of the last three Michigan Dem Primaries had about 20k uncommitted votes, so the 35k isn't all the push for pro-Palestine stances in Congress, but that's still a jump of almost 20k, which is way, way more than the goal.
And they aren't done counting the votes yet. Barely 30% of votes are in. The goal has been blown out of the water.
Other states are reaching out for advice on how to replicate the results.
This is big news.
So can we relax?
Fuck no.
Do what Michigan did. Vote in the Dem primary, and vote uncommitted or write in "ceasefire."
But on a more daily basis, if you have a Democratic candidate, lean on this.
Tell them it will be repeated elsewhere.
This could very well lose the election for Biden and more. The Democrats can't afford another four years of Trump, and they know it. The loss of Michigan can and will tank this election for them, especially since other states that helped Biden win, like Georgia, were also won on demographics that are growing increasingly upset by the situation in Gaza.
Go to the Michigan section of this post and use that in your calls and emails.
But remember. Call your reps. Call your senators. Call your governor, if you'd like. And if they're a Democrat, you bring this up. Be polite, the staffer isn't making these decisions. They might just be an intern. But bring it up and tell them that we are going to lose the presidency if we do not sanction Israel and actually pressure them into not only pulling out of Gaza and the West Bank, but paying reparations.

Since Ghalib’s offensive statements were first published in an article at Focus on Western Islamism, a specialty news publication from the Middle East Forum (MEF), Detroit-area print and television media have been entirely uninterested in the story. In fact, MEF even tried prior to publication to hand over screenshots and professional translations of Ghalib’s posts to local and national media, granting exclusive rights to the story without any takers.
When it comes to anti-black racism, no town is too small and no politician is too insignificant for the media to splash career-ending headlines across their front pages. At least, this was the case recently for mayors in Clarke, New Jersey, and East Hampton, Massachusetts, who provoked frenzied news coverage of their racially insensitive comments.
In May, a city councilor from Everett, Massachusetts, was outed for sharing an anti-black meme and exchanging racist text messages with a city employee. Local high school students walked out of class in protest, and the pair resigned in shame.
Why, then, do Ghalib and other Islamists get a free pass?
There were high hopes for Hamtramck after its citizens elected the first all-Muslim city council in American history. The town motto: “The world in two square miles,” reflects Hamtramck’s diverse cultural landscape, where the remaining Polish families mix with more recently settled Bangladeshi and Yemeni immigrants.
In this manner, Hamtramck is a proving ground for progressive multiculturalism. To acknowledge the mayor’s bigotry is to recognize that some ideologies from the Middle East and South Asia are undesirable, such as Arab discrimination of black Yemenis, who are treated as second-class citizens and confined to menial, low-paying jobs.

Hezbollah has spent the past 2 months attacking Israeli settlements, military sites and installations, and soldiers. Israel has swung from threatening war to asking the West to intervene, in between bombing Lebanese villages and killing civilians and journalist. We now have entered a new chapter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As this thread goes on to explain, Hezbollah would never agree to disarm even it means Lebanon regains all its territories. In fact, Hezbollah criticised Hamas' 2017 charter because it was willing to accept the 1967 border and therefore the two state solution. Nothing less than neutralising the Israeli threat would do.
The thread goes on to explain that Israel is hoping to use domestic pressures to get Hezbollah to agree to this plan. One problem: Hezbollah operates regardless if whether or not it has national support. At any rate, the organisation will never accept the proposed plan.
Tumblr media
Weeks ago, a minister in Israel's war cabinet threatened to leave unless a war with Hezbollah is considered. As you can see in this post and in this article, tens of thousands of Israelis evacuated from the Northern territory want war with Hezbollah so they can return to their settlements. For weeks, the mayors of those settlements have made statements saying Israelis can never return unless Hezbollah is removed from the border. The general idea is that once Hamas is defeated in Gaza, Israel will go to war with Hezbollah.
But Hamas isn't being defeated and Hezbollah is significantly stronger than all the Resistance factions in Gaza. Israel is losing in Gaza. It has the gotten to the point where it can't even resupply its troops from the ground. So many of its soldiers are wounded and left disabled that they're now sending them to civilian hospitals because they've run out of space in their de facto military hospitals (the speculated number is over 10,000 injured since Oct 26th).
What this proposal shows is that Israel has never been more weaker. Israel is terrified of Hezbollah and I can't blame them because if they're struggling this much against the Gazan militia groups, imagine how badly things will go if they ever decide to make the conflict at the border into a war. They lost against Hezbollah twice already, a new war will make it three loses.
Israel would never negotiate unless it was backed into the corner. That's what the temporary truce also showed. Hamas sent their terms for a ceasefire, Israel laughed them off, then weeks later, after taking a great deal of damage, Israel returned to the negotiating table to hear the same exact terms that they were given before.
After Israel refused to extend the truce, Hamas has changed its approach. No more temporary truces. Hostages will only be exchanged after a comprehensive ceasefire. Rumour has it (its practically confirmed in Arab media) that Israel has asked Qatar and Egypt to restart mediation after pulling away Mossad negotiators two weeks ago.
Now, that Israel has shown its belly vis-à-vis Hezbollah, I expect all the Resistance Axis to continue tightening the noose around Israel.
Palestine has never been closer to liberation than it is now and it will be closer still tomorrow.

Sam: probably
Danny: hm.
------------- Snippet 27: digging up cold case
Danny: ....if Damian is out with Sam tonight with their plot against the mayor....
Danny, turning towards his desk: then that means I can work some more on Mrs. Witherbury's murder case that she asked me to solve without Dames guilt-tripping me into bed :)
Danny, settling down at his desk with a thermos full of coffee: i'm glad sam and damian are finally getting along
--------- Snippet 28: sparring
Damian, frowning: your reflexes are incredible but your combat is downright awful, brother. it's truly a miracle i didn't skewer you upon our first meeting
Danny, got his ass kicked by his 7yo brother: *groaning in pain* not everyone has super secret assassin training, Damian. And I don't really have time to actually practice anything.
Damian: Mrs. Fenton knows martial arts and her form is proficient enough, I'm sure she would be delighted to teach you if you asked. I will join since I need to keep my skills sharp and my training was unfinished when I arrived here.
-------- Snippet 29: daytime surprise
Phantom, fighting Skulker in broad daylight: *under his breath* at least Lancer's english test will get canceled for this...

Skulker: foolish ghost child, speak! I know you're capable of it - speak before you lose the ability to
Phantom: *flips him off instead*

Israeli settler leader Daniella Weiss says ‘no Arab will remain in Gaza’
Daniella Weiss, a settler leader and former mayor of the Kedumim settlement in the occupied West Bank, said that “no Arab will remain in Gaza” after the war and that those “who want to have a quiet life” should migrate to other countries. She made the comments during an interview with Israeli media channel Relevant on Thursday. Weiss has made numerous controversial statements in the past and said that she “wants to close the option for a Palestinian state” by encouraging settlements in occupied Palestine.

Moreover, Hamas terror attacks on Israelis increase Palestinian support for Hamas. For example, Palestinian support for Hamas increased dramatically after Hamas launched 4,500 rockets at Israel in May 2021.
Second, Gazan civilians actively participated in, aided, abetted, and celebrated the Oct. 7 massacre.
“Ordinary” Gazan civilian workers in Israel (thousands of whom were allowed into Israel due to the Biden administration’s pressure) collected detailed intelligence on every home and citizen in southern Israeli towns and drew maps for Hamas to easily locate Jewish nurseries and families to murder and kidnap.
Then, after the first wave of Hamas terrorists slaughtered more than 1,400 Jews, huge waves of “ordinary” Gazan civilians, armed with knives and screaming “Allahu Akbar,” flooded into southern Israel, and joined in the Hamas massacres and kidnappings. Mobs of Gazan civilians killed and gang-raped innocent Jews, chopped off innocent Jews’ heads, took hostages, entered and burned down massacred Jews’ homes, and ransacked and looted everything in sight — televisions, automobiles, jewelry, children’s bicycles, etc.
Israeli Telegram Channel South First Responders reported: “The assault on Southern Israel was not carried out exclusively by Hamas. It began with the entry of hundreds of heavily armed terrorists and was followed by waves of Gazans who looted the communities.” The mayor of the regional council encompassing most of the Gaza border explained: “The second wave of Arabs who came into the country were just as cruel as the terrorists of the first wave.”
Throngs of Gazan civilians then cheered the ghoulish site of Hamas parading bloodied, captured, and dead Jews’ bodies through the streets. Gazans beat the Jews as they passed by.
Overjoyed Palestinian Arabs in Judea/Samaria (the “West Bank”) also cheered the massacre, dancing in the streets. Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Palestinian Arabs routinely joyously celebrate when Arab terrorists murder Jewish children.

ZIONIST COLONIAL SETTLERS RAID PALESTINIAN BEDOUIN COMMUNITY
Groups of Zionist colonial settlers on Wednesday raided a Palestinian Bedouin community in the occupied West Bank, in an attempted provocation of local Bedouin residents.
According to the General Supervisor of the Al-Badr organization, an organization dedicated to the Rights of the Palestinian Bedouin population, Hassan Mlihat, a group of Israeli colonial settlers stormed the Milhat Arab community on horseback and in vehicles on Wednesday evening.
The Zionist settlers were also accompanied by the Head of the Zionist colonialist West Bank Settlements Council, Yossi Dagan.
The abuse of Palestinians under occupation in the West Bank continued when the Israeli occupation forces arrested two young Palestinian men in the town of Azzun, located to the east of Qalqilya.
According to local reporting, Zionist occupation forces raided Azzun earlier on Wednesday evening, detaining and arresting the two men, Samer Mahmoud Shabita and Youssef Mazyad Salim, at an Israeli military checkpoint in the central part of the town, near the old mosque.
In further news of apartheid occupied Palestine, occupation bulldozers began construction of a Settler-only road just outside the town of Deir Istiya, northwest of Salfit
According to the Mayor of Derastiya, Firas Dhiab, Zionist bulldozers began razing Palestinian lands and uprooting olive trees belonging to the Muhammad Hussein Abu Nasser family in order to build a Settler-only road, as well as expanding the entrance to the illegal colony of Rafava.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army also detained and imprisoned a young Palestinian man named Shadi Al-Salameen from Al-Somou, south of Hebron, following occupation forces chasing the young man through the streets of the town before catching up to him and assaulting him. Al-Salameen suffers from a work-related foot injury he incurred a year prior.

🔅ISRAEL REALTIME - Connecting the World to Israel in Realtime
🔻HEZBOLLAH rockets at Kiryat Shmona, Beit Hillel, Tel Hai, Ma’ayan Baruch, Kfar Yuval and surrounds, x2 rounds.  7 interceptions near Metula.
🔻GAZA-HAMAS rockets at Nachal Oz. Alumim.
▪️LOCAL ELECTIONS.. concluded with only a few minor difficulties. And with some VERY popular mayors: Danilovich won in Beer Sheva with 96%
Yossi Dagan in Samaria with 80%
Leon in Jerusalem with 81%
Greenberg in Petah Tikva with 88%
▪️HOSTAGE / CEASEFIRE DEAL LEAKS.. According to the Financial Times, as part of a deal to release the hostages, Hamas now demands the introduction of 400 humanitarian aid trucks per day. In the previous deal, the demand was for 200 trucks a day, and their entry was a condition for the daily release of the kidnapped.
▪️HEBRON FIRE AND FAKE NEWS.. as reported yesterday, there was huge fire at an Arab plastics factory in Hebron. The reports now add $50 million in damage, 750 workers out of work. It appears the fire was arson among the Hebron Arabs.
Weirdly pictures and video from the fire was posted on X as “Hezbollah destroys factory in northern Israel” - along with people responding that this will definitely cause Israel to go to full scale war. Sometimes easy to get fooled.
Thank you to a reader who alerted us to the fire via a photo of the huge smoke plume as seen from a Jewish town.
▪️VANDAL ATTACK.. Fireworks shot at Shuafat checkpoint in East Jerusalem.
▪️COUNTER-TERROR.. Qalkilya, according to locals, an exchange of fire began between security forces and terrorists in the vicinity of the "Abu Obeidah" mosque.
▪️TWO HERO SOLDIERS HAVE FALLEN.. in battle in Gaza, Iftah Shahar, 25 of Moshav Paran and Tai Seif, 24, of Yerucham. May their families be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem, and may G-d avenge their blood!
▪️ANOTHER AID DROP MISS.. another Jordanian/Egyptian aid drop on Rafah partially landed in the sea and over the border in Egypt. Oopsie. Why are they air dropping when 2 trucks = 1 air drop? Propaganda & optics for their people.
▪️ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER SHIP HIT.. missile attack, miss off the port bow. This is now pretty much a daily occurrence.

Not understand what happen right now but have friends try explain and understand that bad things happening people in countries around Palestine, Amy can pray for everyone be safe until Monday and then go to mayor office ask him not help make more bad things happen and think him probably not listen because nobody listen ID people not talk smart but Amy can go and say it anyway and also pray lots and hope FairuzFan and all family friends safe.
Something also Amy worry about because live place lots people get mean to Muslim friends and think maybe now more people can think okay to be mean jerks hurt Muslim friends so want make sure Muslim friends online and real life safe even places like America Canada stuff like that and hope FairuzFan safe not have people be mean.
Thank you so much Amy. That's very very sweet of you, I appreciate it so much. I wish you the best of luck with your mayor and I'm sorry that you go through that. I hope we all are safe, all the people who are worried for their own safety and their families'.
I guess a very quick explanation is that Israel hit an Iranian embassy and Iran hit back... may people from Arab countries (both Christian and muslim!) Are very worried for their family because some people say there might be a bigger war in the Middle East that goes to all different countries where our families live.
Thank you again for writing this, I think about your messages often, Amy, when I'm feeling down.

An imam linked to prominent Michigan Democrats like Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Rep. Rashida Tlaib said in a sermon this month that pro-Israel members of Congress were "stooges" of the Jewish state who should be charged with "treason."FreeBeacon
On May 3, Hassan Qazwini, the imam of the Islamic Institute of America, railed against lawmakers who days earlier voted for the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act. The measure, which passed with a vote of 320-91, would require the Department of Education to adopt a widely accepted definition of anti-Semitism for investigations into anti-Semitic incidents on college campuses.
"If there was justice in this country, those congressmen and women would be indicted and convicted of treason," said the Iraq-born Qazwini, whose remarks were first reported by the Middle Eastern Media Research Institute. He asserted lawmakers who voted for the bill "do not work for the interest of the United States, rather for the interests of a foreign country."
"Nothing but stooges of Israel," he said.
Two months before the fiery sermon, Tlaib and Dearborn mayor Abdullah Hammoud, a rising star in the anti-Israel movement, attended a fundraiser with Qazwini for the Islamic Institute of America, based in Dearborn Heights. Qazwini honored Tlaib and Hammoud at the banquet for their "courage and outspokenness against American biases towards Israel." The trio posed for a photo at the ceremony, attended by a number of Dearborn city officials and Arab-American community leaders.
Whitmer, considered a potential Democratic presidential candidate, appeared at a fundraiser for the mosque in 2022 and was photographed with Qazwini.
Qazwini’s anti-Semitic views are nothing new, raising questions for Tlaib and Hammoud about their affiliation with the cleric. In 2020, Qazwini came under fire for his remarks several years earlier that the terrorist group ISIS "somehow is connected to Israel." In a 2016 sermon, Qazwini said that Israel has used the United States as a "cash cow" and that President Barack Obama was "bowing to the pro-Israeli lobby." He referred to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who Qazwini later endorsed for president, as "an honorable man, even though he is a Jew."
Tlaib’s office and Hammoud’s office did not respond to requests for comment about their recent contact with Qazwini.
Tlaib’s affiliation with anti-Israel and pro-terrorist elements are well known. She has met with and attended fundraisers hosted by numerous Hamas supporters. Qazwini contributed $500 to her congressional campaign in 2021, according to campaign finance records. The House of Representatives censured her for circulating the statement, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," a call for the eradication of Israel.
While Tlaib has been somewhat marginalized within the Democratic Party, Hammoud has emerged as a darling of the pro-Palestinian cause. In a glowing profile last month, the Washington Post praised Hammoud for leading the anti-Israel movement while balancing the duties of mayor of a medium-sized city. The Post, which said Hammoud has gone from  "little-known mayor to national figure," touted Hammoud’s refusal to meet with Biden campaign officials earlier this year over opposition to President Joe Biden’s military support for Israel in its war against Hamas.
Unmentioned in the positive press coverage is Hammoud’s alliance with Dearborn-based activists who endorse Hamas’s violence. Osama Siblani, the publisher of the Arab-American News, introduced Hammoud at an event in 2022 with a speech in which Siblani called on the United States to provide Palestinians with "military aid to fight Israelis." Siblani has called Hamas and other terrorist groups "freedom fighters" and urged Islamic militants to fight Israel with "stones" and "guns."
Hours after the Hamas’s Oct. 7 invasion, in which 1,200 Israelis were murdered, Hammoud said the attack should be viewed in the "context" of Israel’s "illegal military occupation" of Gaza.
Dearborn has emerged as a hotbed of anti-Israel activity under Hammoud’s watch, with the Wall Street Journal dubbing the city "America's Jihad Capital."
Hammoud and Tlaib decried the moniker. Weeks later, attendees at a rally outside Dearborn City Hall chanted, "Death to America" and "Death to Israel."

I think a good interview to listen to is Democracy Now's 2/2/24 episode, where the host talks with the Arab-American mayor of Dearborn Michigan about how thoroughly disillusioned the Arab-American community is by Biden and his administration.
I still plan to vote blue, because the congress Republicans seem to be even more bloodthirsty on this topic, and I've never managed to be a single issue voter, but I think it's really important to hear this out if we want a chance to convince the federal government that it is their OWN fate they're dooming by ignoring this massive population in a swing state.
No, reelection should not be the only reason they listen, but realistically, it's how we convince them. Listen, or fail.
Fuck knows how many Serbian-Americans I know that vote red because they blame the Dems for the NATO bombings, and that was a fraction as deadly as Gaza. I know this mentality. I know how deep and long these wounds go. The government NEEDS to recognize how utterly they are screwing themselves over by not cutting all funding to the IDF.
If we know the stats and the emotion and how directly the election is going to be impacted, we can leverage that when calling our senators and representatives to tell them This Needs To Stop.

We’ve all seen this cover and made jokes and homages to it, but I want to put in the context of its time.
Captain America first appeared in December 1940. A year before the Attack on Pearl Harbor and the US declaring war on Nazi Germany. Although there were many in the US urging the government to enter the war on the side of the Allies, there was also those who were sympathetic to the Axis who wanted the US to stay neutral or side with Nazi Germany. Father Charles Coughlin, an anti-communist Catholic priest, launched a radio program which praised Nazi Germany and its actions toward Jews, reaching an audience of millions of people every week. Famous individuals like Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh made speeches on the Jewish problem at home and abroad. The German American Bund, which at its height had 25,000 members, praised Nazism and promoted American solidarity with Germany.
It is in this context that two New York Jews, Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, decided to create Captain America. While the character was popular, his first issue sold nearly a million copies, pro-Nazi groups began to picket and threaten the creators. But Kirby and Simon had powerful allies.
Fiorello H. La Guardia was the half Jewish, half Italian child of immigrants who became mayor of New York City in 1934. He fought against corruption and the mob and worked to protect the rights and improve the representation of the city’s Jewish, Italian, German, and Eastern European communities. The first time President Franklin Delano Roosevelt met Winston Churchill in person, he wrote that Churchill “in many ways is an English Mayor La Guardia.” And as if he couldn’t be more awesome, he liked comics. Upon hearing of the hate mail Kirby and Simon were getting, he called up the two and told them we would authorize police protection of their office if they wanted: “You boys over there are doing a good job, The City of New York will see that no harm comes to you.”
Since then Captain America has continually been a symbol fighting against racism and discrimination in America. He fought with Falcon against racism towards African Americans in the 1960s, in the 1980s he defended gays, and in the 2000s he stood by Arab and Muslim Americans.
America has had a dark past and an uncertain present, but Captain America represents America’s possible future. He is a symbol of the fight against injustice, racism, and fascism; created and supported by those who see what this country could be.

Amal Clooney
the perfect embodiment of feminine & masculine energy.
Feminine in her mannerisms and how she presents herself but rightfully masculine in her career, Amal Clooney is a beautiful representation of what it means to balance your feminine and masculine energy.
Tumblr media
who is she?
Amal Clooney, now 44 years old, is an international lawyer, human rights activist, mother, and wife to the famous George Clooney. When she’s not representing powerful clients before international courts, she is advising political governments and individuals on legal issues. She is a brilliant woman known for her high profile cases, accomplishments, husband, and fashion. She is described as “a brilliant legal mind” and “knows her brief inside out”. Her accolades make her the ideal role model and inspiration for young women.
her background
Amal is a Lebanese-British lawyer and activist specializing in international law and human rights. She was raised in England by her educated father and entrepreneurial mother. Following high school, she studied at Oxford University and graduated with her bachelor’s before attending New York University of Law where she got her Master of Law degree.
Tumblr media
influenced by strong women
Amal is a product of her environment. As mentioned, she was raised by an entrepreneurial mother. Her mother, Baria Alamuddin, is an award winning journalist. Baria has interviewed some of the most notable and prominent figures in the world. Amal’s mother and grandmother both are strong supporters of women empowerment and education which you can see in Amal’s philanthropic work. Another example of being influenced by strong women is when she worked in the office of Sonia Sotomayor, the first woman of color and Latina to serve on the supreme court. She even had the pleasure of working with the judge for the United States Court of Appeals and a NYU Law faculty member. It’s obvious that Amal was fortunate enough to have examples of strong and powerful women not only in her home but in the workplace.
personality
I admire Amal for her intelligence, wit, and ability to keep most of her personal life private. Not much is said about her private life, but colleagues have mentioned that Amal has a ‘commanding presence”. This is obvious when watching her interviews — her energy fills the room. She never overshares or says more than necessary, but when she does speak it’s worth listening to. As you probably guessed, she is an intelligent woman. Fluent in English, French and Arabic. Her cleverness and well articulated speeches immediately captivates those around her.
Tumblr media
love life
One person who was captivated by her mind is her husband George Clooney. In the world of law, she was already a celebrity but became one in the literal sense when she became involved with the well known bachelor, George Clooney. George had a long history of dating gorgeous, famous women but never settled down. He even publicly said he would never get married... this was until he met Amal in July of 2013, in Lake Como Italy.
Similar to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the two met through a mutual friend. This is why your connections, network, and personal brand matters — those can open more doors for you than a dating app can. While most women would fall at the feet of George, Amal didn’t. In fact, he chased her for months before they became serious. He claims he fell for her because of intelligence and personality, but I assume the chase also had a huge impact. Amal is highly intelligent and understands seduction. She knows if she were like every other woman, she would get treated like every other woman. Instead, she stayed committed to her career and mission while making time for him when she could.
Tumblr media
In 2014, the two love birds became engaged only after a year of dating. The Clooney’s were married in Sept of 2014 by no other than the former mayor of Rome. Their beautiful multi-million dollar wedding was in Venice, Italy and was one to remember. After they said “I do”, the couple moved to a multimillion-dollar estate built on a small island in London before having their twins in 2017. Together the couple committed to philanthropic work for women’s and human’s rights. It’s rumored that they’ve donated over $22M to a variety of charities. In 2016, her and George Clooney founded Clooney Foundation for Justice. She has partnered with several other charities, such as Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, and has her own scholarship program to send young girls to college.
Tumblr media
awards & achievements
I would love to end this off not talking about Amal’s love life but the amazing things she’s accomplished. Her list of her achievements and awards are way too long to cover so I’ll mention the few I thought were most notable. Amal was awarded the most fascinating person in 2014, the World Economic Forum’s 2016 Young Global Leader, and Time magazine’s Woman of the Year in 2022. Her fight for human rights has made her a noble activist, leader, and role model. She uses her celebrity status to shed light on political issues that may have otherwise been thrown under the rug.
Tumblr media
Amal has shown us that you can be a feminine family woman while being successful at your career. Her brilliant mind has captivated the red carpet, magazines, and one of Hollywood’s best actors. Amal is an inspiring mother, wife, and activists. Her poise, style, and grace are just a few elements to her feminine charm. Her healthy balance of masculine energy is portrayed in her ability to relentlessly peruse her career, fight for meaningful causes, and excel in a highly competitive field.
