I finally drew one of my OCs–Moldavia! She's essentialy Moldova's older sister and physical age wise, roughly in her 20s. Currently she represents the region of Moldavia in Romania, but she used to personify the Principality of Moldavia(which did include Moldova at certain times) from the 14th(although she was bron and existed before becoming a principality) century up until her union with Wallachia in 1859 to form Romania(Wallachia/Romania became the main represention of the country, essentialy, but she still sort of played a role in helping him). I would love to talk about her more, but at the moment my brain is mush. I might have also screwed up some historical information, in which case I apologise.

A very young Romania and Moldova from Hetalia with their mother, Dacia, and their sister Transylvania. APH Romania and Moldova belong to Hidekaz Himaruya. Dacia (Dacia Traiana) is one of the bastard children of Roman Empire. Her mother, the Getae tribe, was conquered and little Dacia was born. Some in Rome's household suspected Dacia wasn't actually his, as she did not have the signature hair-curl that Rome's descendants inherit, but she did have gold-amber eyes that were very much like her father's and that was all the proof Rome needed. She was a willful and wild child growing up, and loved the woods and hunting. She was so talented at archery at such a young age that Rome gave her the human name "Diana." Rome also used to call his daughter his "little wolf pup" as Dacia had a special bond with wolves. When the empire began to show cracks in its stability, Dacia and her mother were largely left to their own devices in their homeland, as Rome was too preoccupied to really notice them leaving. He did try to find them again, but was ultimately forced to abandon them to the wilderness. Dacia, no longer under her father's protection, had to face invasions from Goth, Hun, Gepid, Avar, and Bulgar. During this period, Dacia gave birth to three children; her eldest son Wallachia (later Romania), her daughter Transylvania, and her youngest son Moldavia (later Moldova). It is unclear who the father of Dacia's children was, but it was most likely Goth. The family got to spend quite a few happy years, together, despite the constant invasions and their eventual subjugation under the Bulgarian Empire. Dacia taught her children the folk magic she learned from her mother and would tell them dark stories of the monsters that lurked in the woods. They mostly lived in mountain villages for safety from raids, but were sometimes forced to flee when locals suspected they weren't human. Dacia also told her children that they were of noble blood, being direct descendants of Rome, himself, and that they should not allow themselves to be humbled by other nations. Dacia had, for a time, hoped that they would eventually be able to become subjects of her half-brother, Byzantine Empire, but he, like Rome before him, had no choice but to forfeit his claims to sovereignty over Dacian lands. Young Romania deeply resented being subject to anyone and was constantly talking back to Bulgaria and trying to assert his independence. Transylvania tried to mediate some of the problems, but Romania only got angry when he saw how close she was getting with Hungary, whom Romania hated from the first moment they met. Romania and Hungary would continue to fight for centuries over Transylvania. Hungary once had to ask Prussia (who was still Teutonic Knights, at the time) to look after Transylvania, but then had to kick his butt when he tried to make Transylvania one of his subjects. Little Moldova managed to fend for himself for a while, living as a principality and successfully fighting against Poland, Hungary, and even Ottoman Empire. From childhood, though, he was very small in stature and almost feral in nature. He was constantly getting into scrapes and ripping his clothes when he was very little, leading his mother to have to patch them up all the time. After Dacia died, Moldova only had Romania and Transylvania to look to for guidance, and all three eventually were reunited after they were conquered by the Ottoman Empire. The family would be separated again, though, when Moldova was taken over by Russia while Romania and Transylvania were taken away by Hungary. Romania became very resentful of the Great Powers of Europe, especially in the 1800s. He worked tirelessly to try and reunite his family and gain independence. Despite numerous setbacks and failures, he still persevered. Though Romania, Transylvania, and Moldova were pulled apart, time and time again, they still found their way back to each other. Even when Moldova became his own country and Transylvania insisted on keeping to some of the customs she learned from Hungary, the bond between the three siblings remains strong even into the present.

Okay so I was in the middle of cleaning out my room since I'm moving soon and I found these little paper dolls I made a long time ago of Aph Romania and three of my Romanian region OCs. In order from left to right is Bucovina, Romania, Moldavia and (unfinished) Transylvania. I just found it so cute to find these and I might even recreate them some time OwO

Amor a primera vista

The first thing that we can see on this character, it’s his over-sized cute coat that's torn and patched up. It resembles how poor is this country.
Sewaddle makes clothes for itself. It chews up leaves and sews them with sticky thread extruded from its mouth.
Also, his japanese name “Kurumiru” (クルミル)  may be derived from 包む (‘kurumu’; to wrap up) or 胡桃 (‘kurumi’) that means “Walnut tree”, that actually is the national tree of Moldova as well.
Tumblr media
Honorable mention to #152 Chikorita
Talking about plants, Moldova’s national flower is the Basil.
I choose Bayleef and not Chikorita, because Bayleef is based on a (forgive the redundancy) in a bay laurel leaf, that is a herb like the basil, and Chikorita is based on a chicory.
Tumblr media
Honorable mention to #228 Houndour
The name "Moldova" derives from the Moldova River; the valley of this river served as a political centre at the time of the foundation of the Principality of Moldavia in 1359.The origin of the name of the river remains unclear. According to a legend recounted by Moldavian chroniclers Dimitrie Cantemir and Grigore Ureche, Prince Dragoș named the river after hunting an aurochs: following the chase, the prince's exhausted hound Molda drowned in the river. The dog's name, given to the river, extended to the Principality.
Because of that tale, and the fact that Moldova himself claims to have a high tolerance for scary stories, I wanted to put a Ghost type dog-like pokemon, but there wasn’t such type of pokemon. First I came up to Houndour, that it’s based on a hound, as you can see, but I wasn’t convinced. I really wanted to add a ghost type pokemon.
Then I was reading about this pokemon, and I learned that it’s very loyal to it’s trainer. “Yeah, loyalty” I thought. That Moldovian dog must be pretty loyal to the prince. There are a countless loyal pokemons, but among them, Gengar it’s pretty known because of it’s loyalty.
Gengar is very mischievous, and at times, malicious. It enjoys playing practical jokes and casting curses, such as pretending to be one's shadow, then behaving erratically, and I thought that may be a good friend (I mean, like a prank partner) to Moldova.

Btw, the Aurochs it’s the national animal.

also I've seen it sometimes, but to me it doesn't really make sense to make Moldova & Moldavia the same person. Idk exactly how to explain it(at least not at the moment), but it's always made sense to me for them to be two separate characters I guess. (Also because I love making OCs lol)

Aph Headcanon Dacia
Dacia has two personifications: Mama(Getae) and Papa Dacia. They are the parents of Romania, Bessarabia (the Republic of Moldova), Moldavia, Transylvania, and Drobrudja. Mama and Papa Dacia are also relatives of Rome’s and this is why Romania and his siblings are part of the Romance family. They were also raised by Rome a part of their lives. When Rome came to conquer the land, Mama Dacia became the representation of the Dacians under Roman rule, while Papa Dacia represented the free Dacians.

@moonstone-vibe
Wellllll...I do have some thoughts about them(since I think that's what you're asking?) but theyre all very rambley and subject to change as I learn more etc etc etc (and this period of history is not one I'm very familiar with, I know a basic summary of stuff and some specific events, but not everything).
Alright, since we have gotten the (really long) disclaimer out of the way, I'm gonna ramble on a bit about these thoughts of mine.
(This took so much to write i stg)
anyway!
I think they met during the 14th century, the late 14th century to be precise, while the Ottoman Empire was expanding through Europe.
Apparently the first confrontation they had was during the rule of Vladislav I , a ruler of Wallachia, who was allied at the time with Ivan Shishman , the emperor of the Bulgaria in Tarnovo, who was not doing very well at the time btw, partly because of the Ottoman Empire lol.
Bulgaria is gonna be mentioned a lot during this, I fear, because I think he does play some role in their dynamic.
Ro, or well as he would have been called at the time, Wallachia, had been part of the Second Bulgarian Empire for a pretty long time, though eventually gaining more and more autonomy, and sort of becoming a vassal state of sorts for a time(basically still kinda being part of Bulgaria, but nominally really), still having to pay tribute to Bul tho. (Also for some time Hungary & Bul basically had a dispute over some part of Wallachia, but as Hungary was weakening due to Mongol attacks, it paved the way to Wallachia being established)
Although that's not important and Im kinda getting sidetracked. Anyway Wallachia does kinda get it's independence, altho it's more like Bul not being able to control it anymore due to the weakening of his empire (before becoming a vassal of the Otttoman Empire, which we'll get to shortly!)
I think they heard of eachoter before meeting, thought. Probably good and bad things, but mostly bad. For Wallachia, Ottoman was the guy that was going around conquering the lands of his friends, including Bulgaria & Serbia, and she...was not really happy about this, obviously. He was actually often allied with Bul, to fight him off(altho not always, relationships between Bul & Wallachia were not always good). For the Ottoman Empire, Wallachia was a thorn in his plans, Bulgaria's even more annoying other half.
Similar to the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire considered itself the successor to Ancient Rome, which really annoyed Wallachia, because he really didn't want to deal with another annoying guy who considered himself as great as the Roman Empire (Wallachia did not have a good relationship with the Eastern Roman Empire, but he would pick him over the Ottoman Empire surely).
And so, Ro did not see Ottoman as anything other than another empire trying to claim the glory of Rome, that would probably not last very long until the next one came. Simply a flicker in mankind's history. He had done and seen this before many times, just another nation that would try to claim her land and people. He was not scared of him, didn't feel much for him besides annoyance at first.
But I do think, over the years, they gained some respect for eachoter, for their skills in battle and outside of that.
Also annoyance eventually turned into anger at him, because how dare he take his friends away from him and hurt them! How dare he take Wallachia's independence away, too!
And so he became even more annoying. His plans were basically to not make it worthwhile to conquer his lands, to make the cost of a battle unjustifiable.
And they did fight, but Wallachia always somehow managed to keep being a vassal state, part of the reason because he was a buffer zone for a lot of european powers and stuff.
And like...I think this fighting of theirs became some sort of "dance" for them, something they were used to. Their own game of chess, if you will. Turk would make a move, then Ro, and it kept going, none of them ever truly changing the status quo, Wallachia remaining a vassal but never truly part of the Ottoman Empire, always slightly out of reach, never his.
It probably drove Turkey a little mad, but he also kinda liked it. I think when they weren't enemies they could get along pretty great, but both of them would rather eat knives than admit that (especially Ro :]]] )
I'll be honest, i think there were moments when Wallachia scared the crap out of Turkey, not that he'd admit it, of course, but little Ro could be really creepy.
The Ottoman Empire didn't scare Ro much, more like the reminder of what he could do to Ro and his loved ones(and what he already did) scared her, and his people also. Specifically that if Wallachia wasn't careful, the little freedom & independence he has could be taken away.
So Wallachia when he'd interact with him during times of peace ig, would always be careful to not actually get attached to the guy, constantly reminding herself of what he could be like. He always treaded lightly around him. Constantly telling herself that he's the enemy!!!
As time went on however, their relations got more...tense then they already were. Wallachia wanted independence and later a union with Moldavia and the Ottoman Empire did not want this to happen.
And of course, I ought to mention the Phanariots. God, save for maybe a few of them, Wallachia hated them so much! And sometimes it wasn't anything they did, it was more that they weren't his own people, and paying to get to rule over him and his people and lands. Definitely not happy about this was he.
Anyway eventually the whole thing happens when Moldavia & Wallachia elect the same guy (Alexandru Ioan Cuza) yada yada yada they unite and Turkey is probably not really happy (random, but apparently Austria was actually the main opposer of this while Prussia supported the union, and really not happy but was caught in the austro-prussian war do couldn't do much about it.)
And eventually Romania gains his independence, fighting alongside the Russian Empire, Bulgaria, and also Serbia & Montenegro I think? Anyway Romania gets her independence, and he & the Ottoman Empire are on pretty bad terms.
But after Romania became independent; things actually, slowly, started to improve between the two. They became...friends of a sort. Although they both wouldn't admit it obviously, they are fond od eachoter. They probably even look fondly back on some of their memories and shit.
But they don't have the best relationship either. That perhaps, there is still some resentment and hurt there, just a little, that neither is keen on adressing ever.
Anyway I don't particulary see them as romantic but I can imagine Ro getting probably mad at Bulgaria or something, feeling hurt and probably flirting with Turkey to piss him off.
I can see Ro kissing Turkey but like, to surprise him in order to fight him or something. Kiss him then surprise punch him while he's trying to process it haha.
Also I basically have my physical age headcanons written for Ro here but I basically see Turkey as being always a few years older than Ro historically, like 2, or 3 at most? (which is probably way younger than in canon, but then again, canon is dead and we do what we want.) I see Turkey as being in modern times in his mid to late 20s, at most, early 30s (I see him being called an "old man" but he doesn't look that old to me AT ALL so I'm really confused, plus it wouldn't make sense for him to be way older than the main cast for a lot of reasons etc etc. But maybe it's just me idk)
So yeah, I don't see turkro romantically, I guess? Nonetheless they have the potential of a very interesting and fun(and perhaps a little fucked up :] ) dynamic. Perhaps a little romance here and there, maybe in the current era, but they'd both have to go through a lot of character development for that :]]]
These days, they probably hang out sometimes, do stupid shit together, and actually have a really fun time. They probably recall some of their more fun memories, talk about the times they won in a conflict with the other, argue about something then get drunk and laugh with eachoter.
also a lot of these things also apply to my Moldavia OC and her relationship with Turkey, altho not all cause her personality is different from Romania's obviously.

thought: Moldavia (my OC) sometimes speaking romanian with a moldavian accent/speaking the moldavian dialect of romanian. They can speak standard romanian perfectly fine, but the moldavian dialect is what comes to them naturally I guess, especially when drunk or feeling a lot of emotions.
I think Ro also speak in the wallachian dialect naturally. Specifically the way it is spoken in Muntenia.

*perhaps how the union of Wallachia & Moldavia that formed Romania went like*
Wallachia: I want to be with you for the rest of my life. Moldavia: Damn, that sounds like a marriage proposal. Wallachia, getting down on one knee: That's 'cause it is.

read a fic and remembered about the series of stories I wanna write involving Moldova(my version of him), Moldavia (the region of Romania and my OC) & some other characters. My name idea for the series is something to do with aurochs(so maybe like "The Aurochs", or maybe not), since the auroch is an animal that represents moldova & moldavia (and some other regions that are kinda in Romania besides Moldavia, those regions being Maramureș & Bukovina). I'll have to do a lot of outlining and work on a lot of characters before writing it, so if I even do it, it'll take a lot of time but I like thinking about it cause I really want to write about the history of these places

thinking about my Moldavia OC. Anyway my human name ideas for her are: Constantina, Ștefania(or perhaps, Ștefana), Cornelia (kinda)
I kinda want to give her the surname Dragoș, bcs one of the first rules of Moldavia was named Dragoș I think (I suck at remembering stuff sometimes & I am not able to fact check it atm). I guess if she were to be a boy she would simply have it as a first name.

also the thing about my Moldavia OC is that while, compared to other characters, they might look sane or like a straightman trope, they are actually as insane as everyone else. I mean, have you seen the stereotypes about us romanians from Moldavia? XD
They probably drink alcohol a lot to cope with their feelings, or to have fun, or both. Since that's kind of one of the stereotypes associated with us. When drunk she's much more fun and impulsive, I'd say.

Also, forgot to mention, but my Moldavia OC, while no longer being a country, is still very much alive and well, and still immortal. Perhaps she's just immortal because her end as a independent country was peaceful and her own choice, perhaps she still continues on representing the region of Moldavia and it's people, who knows? I am gonna talk about her backstory one day, but her being a nation and all that comes with it was something she really struggled with, and not exactly her choice.
