I am a massive fan of Pen15, so this may be only slightly biased.

Maya Erskine is in fact a genius. Whenever she talks about her parents in any piece of media, I get misty-eyed.

This is a perfect romcom, but it isn’t perfectly formulaic like other romcoms. It is hurtful, yearning, aching, hot, sweet, with characters you can’t help but adore.

Oh my god, I LOVE when they put weird girls in rom coms. For fuck’s sake, weird girl representation in the romcom genre is few and far between. She makes the conversation far more real. And more heartbreaking at times?

Watch this if:

you read Wattpad fanfiction in your highschool years

while reading said fanfiction, you scoured the ‘friends to lovers’ tag, maybe even the ‘meet cute’ tag

Reina de Elphame

o "Elf-hame" (- hame vástago sólo se produce en conjetural reconstruida ortografía), en el folklore creencia de tierra baja Escocia y el norte de Inglaterra , designa la reina elfin de Faerie, mencionado en Juicios de brujas escocesas . Ella es equivalente a la Reina de las Hadas que gobierna Faërie o Fairyland . La reina, según el testimonio, tiene un marido llamado "Christsonday".

Tal reina también aparece en la leyenda de Thomas the Rhymer, pero ella es la reina de un mundo sin nombre en el romance en verso medieval. El nombre "Reina del País de los Elfos" se menciona para ella solo en una balada posterior (versión A).

En una leyenda métrica, "Las Hadas de Fawdon Hill" es donde se lleva a cabo la Corte de las Hadas, presidida por la Reina Mab

La forma "Reina de Elphen" aparece en la acusación (cancionero) del juicio por brujería de 1598 y la confesión de Andro Man (Andrew Man) de Aberdeen . Andro Man confesó además que en el Día de la Santa Cruz ( Ruidday en la cosecha) la Reina de Elphen y su compañía montaban caballos blancos ( quhyt haiknayes ) junto a Christsondy que apareció de la nieve en forma de ciervo . Ella y sus compañeros tenían formas humanas, "pero eran como sombras", y estaban "jugando y bailando cuando les placía".

Facing down an endless summer of weddings, college friends Ben and Alice decide that being each other’s plus ones is their only hope of survival.

Plus One (2019) is pretty good for a straight rom-com. It’s mostly from Ben’s perspective as he frets about finding ‘the one’ and getting a relationship, or marriage, right the first time. The film’s message is that love is not about meeting someone in a magical way and having absolute surety that they’re the person you should be with. A good partner is someone you trust and want to spend time with, and there’s no way to know what will happen.

I think this is a pretty good message that critiques the way a lot of romantic comedies are framed. In short, it feels like saying “relationships don’t always look like they do in movies.” As a queer person, I’m like, “yeah, I know.” Still, I thought this movie was pretty cute and funny.

I came to this film because of Maya Erskine, who you may know from Pen15. She is just as hilarious in this film. I only wish the film had centered her as the main character rather than Ben. Anna Konkle (the other half of Pen15) also makes an appearance.

In order to survive a summer of wedding fever, longtime single friends, Ben and Alice, agree to be each other's plus one at every wedding they've been invited to.

Best "formula" rom-com in quite some time. Yes, it means that it's entirely predictable, including a necessary "conflict" between the two that comes too sudden. But it's just too much fun to watch Alice and Ben. I especially found Maya Erskine highly enjoyable.

Deserves to be more widely seen.
